Hong Tu Takeaway in Darlington

We used to order here quite a lot as they deliver just outside Darlington. Got our order this evening and it was disgusting. My husband used to love the onion rings as they were proper homemade and crispy ones, but tonight’s ones were frozen out of a bag 😂 Salt n pepper chips tasted of cleaning products and the curry sauce rank! Called the takeaway, they said the chef has changed. Will not be ordering again from here, all went in the bin!

I'm staying in the area for the first time, doing a 10-day house and pet sitting gig, and decided to give this place a try based on the positive reviews – I’m glad I did! I ordered the beansprout chow mein, deep-fried shredded chicken with honey spicy sauce, crispy aromatic duck, and a side of curry sauce. Everything arrived earlier than expected, piping hot, and, to my surprise, absolutely delicious! The spicy honey sauce on the chicken was lovely – just the right balance of sweet and heat. The duck wasn’t crispy on arrival (which I expected as they rarely are), but a quick go in the oven made it perfect – full of flavour and very tasty. The crispy chicken was exactly that: crispy and incredibly moreish. The meal was reasonably priced, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. To top it off, they ensured my special request was followed, which I greatly appreciated. I’ll definitely be ordering from here again whilst in the area. Highly recommended!

We adore this takeaway in Darlington. Good well priced menu. Use a mixture of delivery or order online to collect both via DarloEats app. Works well.

Ordered 6:28 received 8:30. Get a phone call at 7pm telling me I needed to pay the driver an extra £3 on top of the £2.50 already paid on just eat because £2.50 isn’t enough to cover a 5-7mile trip.

Food was cold driver was horrendous attitude. Felt like smacking him. Drove on and come back food was cold at that point want refund or that weasel wages

The week before this order, phoned and asked for an extra £3 cash delivery because of a ‘glitch’ on Just Eat. This week, turned up 90 minutes late, cold and had the nerve to ask for the extra £3 again! Never again!

Chips reheated and not fresh, sent gravy instead of curry sauce, only thing ok was the prawn crackers! Won’t be ordering from them again unfortunately

Hawk Tuah is by far the best Chinese we’ve tried in Darlington. We usually collect from the ones not on Just Eat as the ones on here tend to be just deep fried muck covered in sugar, but this meal was sublime. Really good quality food, and a succulent Chinese meal. bosch!

ordered food at 18.39 it's now 20.43 and no food has been delivered. called up to find out where it was and got asked what I'd ordered to be told it's on its way. never had an issue here before. marked as enjoy your food with no food to eat. You need to sort your service out Hong Tu this is not acceptable

fantastic tasty meal ( Thai green curry) the heat was very present, as in chillies, however it was not overpowering and very enjoyable..I have used these a few times, and will definitely be using them again.

This is our favourite Chinese takeaway. After moving to Heighington and trying most Chinese in the area we've settled on Hong Tu. Probably had food from there 12 times so far, consistently very good. Our daughter and her husband (restaurant manager and executive chef) rate it very highly too). Hong Tu is still our favourite. Never lets us down. Superb quality

The order was late so the food was cold especially the chips I have ordered before with no issues it this time it was ot so good.

Heated up chips from lunchtime not nice, rest was absolutely fine.

Food was poor in comparison to normal and was over an hour and a half late, called 4 times each time told it was 4 minutes away! Ten minutes away etc…..in then end 50 more minutes waiting!

food still isn't here, I put the order in around 19:10 and I'm still waiting. delivery driver marked it down as delivered on the app around 20:15 but we still don't have our food.

This was our first time trying Hong Tu and was not disappointed. Nothing was too much and delivery in 35 minutes! The food was amazing and had a freebie in too.

Not the usual standard of food but still nice. not sure if maybe a different chef? and missed off the fortune cookies.

Lemon chicken was chewy and tough The sauce was awful, shredded beef was in massive clumps and didnt even recieve the drink that we ordered. Considering we spent over £40 on this it was very disappointing and we wont be ordering from there again.

Food was great , Delivery was terrible and the customer service at the restaurant although polite, just complained the chefs have too much to do on a Saturday night, it took 4 phone calls for the food to finally turn up.

Yet again from this place something was missing from my order. I stopped using this place for a long time because of this reason but because the delivery time was quicker thought I’d give it another go but yet again food was missing. Won’t use again.

I normally rate this place 5* but this time it let me down. 1st I requested no onions with one of the meals and it came with Onion. 2nd one of the meals was meant to come with a side of noodle but they missed it off. I called them and they agreed to send one out. After 1 hour the food arrived and it was the wrong thing. So my meal was full but with Onion and my wife only had half a meal.

Why have I never ordered from here before? Food was hot, fresh and absolutely delicious. New favourite Chinese!

Made us wait far too long for our order

App said on route but was told when I called that was just to clear the system. Had to call twice to see where it was, when the driver did come he just left the order at the bottom of the apartment stairs. Needless to say, nothing was crispy, hot or worth the wait.

The spicy salt and pepper chicken wings were okay, but not spicy. The chefs speciality deep fried prawn in sauce also okay but very few vegetables with it. The duck with bamboo shoots and water chestnuts had absolutely no water chestnuts and the duck was Bland.

Such delicious food and big portions! Whole family enjoyed, and even got free salt and pepper wings with our order! Thanks so much!!

Food cold chips reheated won’t be back

By far the best Chinese round here and we’ll 100% be using in the future. The quality of the food was fantastic. Lots of meat in all the dishes and fantastic flavours. Highly recommend.

Received wrong order unfortunately. Food was nice but not what we ordered. They have said they will deliver the correct meal, however that means one of us needs to eat separately so it doesn’t go cold!

Have always used Hong tu for my Chinese, however after tonight I won’t be. I am really careful what o order as I’m allergic to seafood and nuts. My Cantonese chicken had prawns in and I was unaware until I took a bite. I am now awaiting antihistamines to work as I’ve had an allergic reaction and currently have swollen lips, and am bright read in the face with my skin on fire.

Buyer beware. Make your own conclusions. Leaflet received in the door, thought I would try the special set menu. Delivery £1.75 within 3 miles. 5.55pm – Phone order made for delivery. Quoted 20mins. Shop is 1.5 miles away. Asked to change the can of Coke for a can of Fanta, told it would be extra as I’ve ordered a set menu. Fun Fact: The entire population likes Coke, nobody can say no to it. 6.40pm – Follow-up phone call made. Stated didn’t realise the kitchen was busy, had a lot of orders. Driver is 3 minutes away. When asked about a discount, they stated you are already getting a discount of 15%. I’ve paid full price and a delivery fee. Not sure where the discount is. 7.00pm – Follow-up phone call made as still no delivery. They contacted the driver, apparently hes 5 minutes away. Explained that this is unacceptable and I did not pay for this level of service. The company was not apologetic and did not offer discount or compensation. 7.20pm – I called up my local Chinese and made a phone order for collection. 7.40pm – The driver who was 5 minutes away calls to tell me hes outside. I explain I’ve order something else and I don’t want it anymore. I walk home holding my food I ordered 20 mins ago from my local Chinese shop. Google maps says it would take 35 minutes to walk to the Chinese shop 1.5 miles away. On the way, I could grab some ingredients, then cook it in their kitchen, walk back and be home before its delivered.

Ordered a chicken chow mein with spring rolls and curry sauce, food was delicious and hot very good portion. Haven’t been for a few years but I’ll definitely be back!!

The dining experience was truly exceptional. The dish I ordered was not only delicious but also arrived in record time, which was unexpected but very much appreciated. I am genuinely thankful for such a wonderful dining experience!

If I fancy a Chinese/Cantonese I always use Hong Tu the food is always really nice and the restaurant has an excellent menu plenty of choice. But the quality is always good 2 I had tai red curry this time. Only grumble was a bit on the watery side but was still flavoursome. I enjoyed my meal

So tasty fresh and hot. Credit to the chef and the salt and pepper chips come in a cardboard box so they were not soggy. Highly recommend.

Absolutely disgraceful.. sat for half an hour trying to call BOTH phone numbers, and both say “call active” and I mean this is me repeatedly pressing call again and again. Amazing how they earn money it is, right ignorant people they are. Plus, the woman on the other end of the phone who just says repeats “yes” after everything you say needs a bit of decency. Rant over

Soup was inedible(chicken & sweetcorn. Spring rolls were soggy and fell apart. Prawn toast tasted like it was cooked in dirty oil ss did wonton. Dont go here worst chinese in Darlington.

Delivery was due for approx 19:10, this was delayed to 19:30 approx, order finally arrived at 20:05, 90 minutes after the order had been placed, food had to be microwaved as just under warm. Sad as previous orders had always been very satisfactory
