Sunday lunch August fantastic. Large roast parsnip, 2 slices beef and plenty of roast and boiled pots. In Sept no parsnips and 1 slice beef. Getting smaller each time. Was worth it, now I think we will find somewhere else. Food good but not getting what is advertised.

Such a lovely place, it is lovely and bright inside and has some nice seating outside. Ordered a fish and chips on the 2 for £15 deal. It was lovely cooked perfectly and large portion and brought out quickly all while still being piping hot.

Facilities ok, good choice on the menu and decent quality for the money. Spicy coated chicken for the kids not ideal though. Staff seemed lovely. Biggest problem is the whole place is filthy and needs a good deep clean. Everything I touched was sticky, the dining chairs are crusted with old food.

We had 3 rooms/lodges booked for 2 nights. On arrival, there was only one member of staff behind the bar who was very unhelpful. Because he could find our names on the table booking system, he wasn't interested in helping us and just carried on serving drinks to other customers. The manager was phoned who the bookings were made with, and he tried to deny he knew anything to us or the bookings. In this area there is no mobile signal and the pubs wifi didn't work. I found a chap cleaning a lodge who tried to help us sort this mess out. But after speaking to the manager again via the pubs phone, our 3 rooms for 2 nights had been double booked ..... after 5 of us had travelled for nearly 3 hours to stay the weekend here, that is the very last thing you want to hear. We had to drive a few miles down the road to a coffee shop to us their wifi to search the Internet for somewhere that had 3 rooms available.

Went in here for dinner as we where passing and thought we would give it a try. Staff are great. But that’s where it ends. Had the beef Sunday lunch which I left most. Beef smelt off. The rest just tasteless. I knew it was going to be a bad meal when I saw the 2 for 12 Sunday dinners but didn’t think it would be so bad. As with all things in life you get what you pay for. To be honest you may as well go Iceland and get a ready made frozen dinner because that’s basically what it is.

I think its important to balance the reviews i totally dismiss the earlier negative review. My husband and I have visited this pub every couple of weeks over the last 12mths.Food is good and service equally as good staff are caring. We have been able to book in for a meal to use the eat out promotion. Actually i think everyone took up this promotion it was really nice to see the pub was booked out social distancing of tables accepted. Which did mean up to 45mins delay on food which was acceptable considering everyone was eating at the same time.Hope everyone looks at your pub and outside space and Visits again. We will

We have visited this pub quite a few times pre covid. We felt safe going to eat here. Measures were all in place. We have eaten here 3 times during eat out to help out. It has been very busy but what do you expect with such a good offer. The one evening the weather was fab and the garden seating was packed so food took a little time but it was hot and well presented. Last week a little quieter and one member of our party said it was one of the best steaks she had had. The staff are very friendly and attentive. We will be back.

I went here with my family to celebrate my granddaughters birthday... there was no social distancing, no one way systems I could see in place. No staff were wearing face coverings and the tables were left dirty. We waited almost an hour for food and it was terrible!! Steaks over cooked. Chicken dry and the kids fish was inedible.... the chip fryers definitely need cleaning out..Honestly I wouldn't entertain eating here again. If you want a drink and the kids too play this is a great place.

Went here tonight and whilst the food was ok the place is ridiculously understaffed which resulted in huge waits, being forgotten about and all sorts. Not the staffs fault (who were there), but you cant have 3 staff in total dealing with the bar, waiting tables, taking orders etc (both inside and out the building). Not good enough.

After being in isolation for weeks my son took me here for lunch. We waited a long time for our food And when asked where it was told us it will be another 4-5 minutes we eventually got our food and asked the waiter why it had taken so long (45 mins)when other customers who were after us got theirs, the reply was the chef had lost the slip with our order!! Food was ok have had better in other pubs but I guess it was half price august, sons naan was rock hard so asked for another one and came in a dish with an hair in it couldn’t be bothered to say anything about it because I don’t think they would have cared anyway. We think the guy who took the order messed up has he forgot to halve the bill and had to give the difference with change and probably voided our order by mistake but chose to blame the chef! Old reviews were quite good thats why we chose here but sadly our experience was awful.

Stopped for a cheap lunch, orddered off the two for £10 menu, don't expect miracles but food needs to be edible. Chicken was sent back as chewy and wouldn't cut, offered alternative of anything off the same menu. Chose fish and chips thinking that you couldn't go wrong, however, fish batter dark brown charred and fish inside was rubbery and slimy. Neither of us are fussy eaters and generally eat what is put in front of us, but those two dishes were disgusting. Our advice would be to replace the chef. Our main reason for going today was that we have previously eaten here before about 6 months ago and food was fine. Really disappointing.

Staying nearby for a Christmas Ball we decided to pop in rather than stay in the hotel. We arrived early evening but the place was nearly empty apart from a few, apparently, locals drinking. No diners. We took a table and were pleasantly surprised by the extensive menu. Normal dishes - no arty farty stuff. The dining area is huge and we felt lost in it.I had the chicken pie, veg and gravy. It was excellent. Wife had Hunters chicken. Also excellent. Good value. Small selection of beers but they did have an excellent ale named Hereford Pale Ale.We would return, food was great, service was ok (young staff) but needs a few more people to make it zing. Looks like a good party or celebration venue.

Visited for an evening meal before the Christmas rush. Shown to a table quickly & ordered. Food came quite quickly but thought i'd ordered a starter by mistake. I ordered the Beef Pie, which was about the same size as 2 buffet style pork pies. Though very nice, it was very small. Wife had chicken which looked lovely. The pub had a great idea of giving people envelopes to be opened by staff after the New Year. Each envelope contains a price apparently. Guaranteed a return visit for return custom - good idea

Myself and 3 other family members dined at the hare and hounds recently and to be quite frank it is not been anywhere near the same standard as before. We have moved area 2 months ago which has meant we have been unable to dine as of then, and the food was always well cooked presented and actually seasoned. Used to love the food there but seems like it has declined massively, my guess would be change of chef or the chef has lost all passion for cooking serving food slopped on a plate without real care or precision in comparison to the visits before... As we used to be fairly regular diners we are adamant we have never had the same experience as to what we had of our recent visit, so poor we didn’t feel the need to complain once meals were collected. Hoping it was just a off day, Or the chef young male chef was just off. We may try agin with hopes the food is restored to the previous Caliber it was. Hope Alastair will figure it out as service beside the food was still up to par.

Decent enough outside play area for kids , however there aren’t enough tables to serve everybody, baby high chair was broke and some of the table/ bench seats are nearly completely rotten through and unsafe to sit on. The food was not good, I had dry over cooked (very small) steak, the chicken also dry, and not enough chips, I expect more for £16 per meal . you look through the bar area and see rubbish and clutter all the up the stair well leading to the flat above. All very unsettling. Would not go again. The people who run this establishment are clearly just going through the motions. Shame as it’s great location and could do so much better for the paying public.

We decided on the Hare and Hounds for an early Sunday dinner after reading some positive reviews and the menu looked interesting and good value. We arrived and were greeted pleasantly by the guy behind the bar and found a table. It was not busy so for a privately owned pub where the owners have obviously invested it was severely lacking. I ordered rump steak rare. The steak arrived looking like a minute steak about a centimetre thick and not rare. The peas were like bullets and packet chips were.....chips. My wife had mushroom stroganoff which was OK but served with.....nachos!...a bit random to say the least. Unbranded packet sauces in a jar smacks of cheap and with average food as well, it’s not a reason to return. it’s tough in the service sector, however if you focus on providing service then this does help...we received none. We were not asked how our meal was, even when we paid the bill or when our plates were cleared...or at any time we were there. We were not offered desserts or coffee so we just paid our bill and left. We probably will not go back as there are plenty of other places locally where they do care about offering a service....

This is the first time I have been since they have changed the menu although I have been numerous times before. Although the prices have gone up the menu sounded really nice so I was expecting the food to be something special. I was totally wrong. My favourite dish is slow cooked belly of pork which I have had many times in various places. However this time it was awful, tasteless and dry and difficult to digest so much so I had to ask for a jug of gravy the carrots were overcooked and the broccoli was almost raw, the best part was the mashed potato. My friend had the chicken stack which he said was just ok. The food is not particularly cheap now neither are the drinks. In hindsight I would have been better sticking to pub grub like scampi or gammon and chips where they only need a microwave technician and not a chef capable of cooking fancy dishes

I feel a bit sad about this review. The small team there are friendly, but I think that’s the nicest thing I can say about the place. The food is shockingly bad. It is relatively cheap, so I suppose you could add that. But, by crikey, you know that it is cheap. It’s the kind of place that exists with a menu that’s too comprehensive to be be anything other than microwave, deep fry or grill from a catering supplier. And it tastes exactly as you would expect. I’ve not experienced vegetables as bad as that for some time. Beans, carrots and broccoli all tasted unnatural, their texture was one step past over cooked and an amazing balance between slushy and stringy. The sausages that came with the mash and Yorkshire pudding were more like meat mousse fried in some skin, although ‘meat’ might not be a description you could throw at them. Peas were that weird olive green colour where a long life in a can has sucked out all of the natural green that makes you want to eat them. Roast pork was plentiful but chewy and tough, this was not a Sunday roast, but a boil in the bag meal or something similar. I now understand why the person taking the order at the bar was unsure if it came with crackling. This pork had once seen an oven, but a long time ago before it left the factory. This is not a place you come to for a nice meal, I can’t even recommend it for a quick stop to refuel. I hope the nice young team there find their way to try to move to cooking real food.

After hearing some good reviews from friends and family and seeing adverts for the pub on Facebook we decided to try Friday night dinner here. A wonderful airy pub, real fires, plenty of space and nicely decorated with photographs of the local area. A warm greeting from the lady behind the bar was most appreciated and a pleasant hum of diners chatting over dinner rather than music playing. We ordered drinks and sat at a table to peruse the menu. Lots of traditional pub grub favourites and some surprising specials available. Food was served promptly given it being 7pm on a Friday. Food was presented nicely, plentiful, hot and tasty. We also had puddings, the best bread and butter pudding I’ve had in a long time. Looking forward to enjoying dinners in the conservatory and garden in warmer weather.

Hubby had breaded mushrooms which he says we're ok. Mains - Hubby had 16oz rump with the trimmings whereas I had 8oz which was awful. Couldn't cut through it and had to extract an inedible piece from my mouth into a tissue and another piece on the plate which is not nice to do in view if others. Left the steak and waiter relayed my concerns back to the kitchen. They did knock the price of a round of drink from the bill because of the steak. We used to pop in occasionally before the revamp and always enjoyed the food. The menu is your basic pub menu which is fine when done right but the food we got was average, the gammon was extremely fatty, the salmon was tiny and the rest of the food was dry and tasteless. We may give it another try in a few months in the hope it will improve with time as it is such a nice pub.

A complete make over for this pub and what a difference, before you always felt you were sitting in someones living room now it is so different with clean lines and a better atmosphere a real pub. Food is what you would expect from any 2 for £10 or 2 for £12 pub basic pub grub but slightly better than some. Drink prices reasonable as well.

Visited with friends at lunch time, the building as had a complete makeover and now looks very clean and modern. Menu is very varied, with a specials board and option of very reasonable 2 for 1 deals. We had a variety of dishes and they were all very good. Service was really good and we didn't have to wait too long for our food.

Called in after going to visit santa at Webb's garden centre, walked into a lovely revamped pub, amazing make over, great prices on menus, a very good selection of difference foods, a good range off specials on the special boards, the people who were serving were polite, especially the young girl, was a lovely relaxed pub, definitely recommend, outstanding job,

Popped in for a quick lunch and opted for soup of the day which was tomato with garlic bread selection. Soup was obviously Heinz tinned and the garlic bread was very limp. Place was cold and we saw customers trying to find tables next to radiators. Didn’t feel very welcoming and no real atmosphere. Only 1 girl who was waiting on tables and running the bar. Could be a great place with a bit of TLC. Shame the open fire was not lit.

This old pub, built originally in the 1500s, was my old regular in the late 60s/early 70s. 1960s/70s that is. Landlady's name was Joan. Don't recall the meals but the cider was good, so was the company. Shenstone Teachers Training College was just down the road, with 300+ female trainee teachers so finding this pub was every young fellas dream. Enough said, but so happy after 45 years abroad to see the place still standing.

We have just been for lunch here we were pleased to see that this pub has finally been given a good makeover, which was excellent. The food choice was very good especially catering well for vegetarians, although it was quite a long wait for the food to arrive which we were told about, it was excellent I had the veggie sausage mash and Yorkshire pudding and gravy which was great such good value too, hope to go again soon

We went for food on the opening night, the revamp made it unrecognisable, which was well needed. We were disappointed with the food as it was the plain, generic food you get at most cheap chain pubs these days. The previous owners cooked amazing home cooked food. Adding to that, although we were pre warned that there was a 45 min wait for food, it turned into and hour and a half and we had to ask where our food was. The bar was too small to cater for everyone having to order at the bar as well as only one till and one member of staff. I think unless the bar itself and staff amount are extended then table service needs to be added, it seemed like they couldn’t cope with the amount customers although they all kept very calm and collected.

The rebuild is first class and has extended the facilities, The lady who was pressed to keep up with the work seemed to have just one helper. We waited a long time for our food. My "lite bite" fish and chips were quite good apart from some very thin chips and no mushy peas. but my wife's "all day breakfast" again off the "lite bite" list, was not very good. This place could be a "gold mine" but needs to get its act together. There was a pre-opening statement that 10 people were to be employed, but kittle sign of them.

They re opened this week (17th. Nov 2017) after renovation and being run by the team that have managed the Old House at Blakedown for sometime. The same menu as the Old House and this is a very nice Restaurant\Pub. A superb refit which gives very nice relaxed environment. Simple but well presented food at very reasonable prices. A team who are welcoming and pleased to see you. Give this place a try you wont regret it. It won't be long until you have to wait for a table well done Lad's.

Smells delicious but unfortunately a few times we had terrible chips, brisket is to salty and over seasoned, the food is hot at least and friendly staff. Very over priced.
