Gurkha Bar and Restaurant in East Lothian

The food was okay but both main courses were not warm enough temperature wise and the pickle tray was disappointing for the price paid and the peshwari nan was soggy. Disappointed as really looking forward to our meal based on other people’s reviews which did not match our experience!

Delicious food! Really tender lamb in both dishes, and the prawn starter was exceptional.

Was going to go into the restaurant but weather stopped us so ordered a delivery but this place is next level food is amazing and portion size huge well worth the money definitely going in restaurant next time so I can thank them face to face 5 stars from me

Great food as always. Customised our order to make one main extra hot - perfect ! Mains have plenty of the main contents (chicken & king prawns for us). All the food was hot when it arrived too ! Look forward to our next order ! 👏👏👏

Best restaurant in Musselburgh. Food excellent

I find that for the last 10 years it is really hard to get a good Indian meal any more in Edinburgh but the meal I got last night (Lamb Vindaloo) was fantastic and I will definitely be ordering from them again

Came along at lunchtime Saturday, Amazing food and amazing presentation and great service, also done kids portions which meant they could share some starters to taste would highly recommend

I recently visited Gurkhas bar and restaurant with my friends and it was a delightful dining experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely exquisite. Great food. This has to be one of the best restaurants in the area. Lots of meat in the dishes and tasted absolutely amazing.

Placed my order for 8pm which turned up 2 hours early. Was collected then a new order redelivered to find one of the dishes was wrong. Bit disappointed as never had any issues before.

We went here for a meal last night, four Adults and two kids. The food was pretty decent, nice tasting and ok portion sizes. The service was lacking though, we were given the wrong breads, and had to wait on the correct ones coming, we had to ask three times for drinks/ water before it eventually arrived, and the waitress was trying to take our plates away while I was still eating my starter, had to tell her to wait a bit! Atmosphere wasn't great, felt like we were being rushed a bit.

We have been to the Gurkha on numerous occasions and thoroughly enjoy it, service is normally 1st class and food is lovely. However, we went last night and we were so disappointed. The place was so busy, they had the tables crammed together, you felt like you were having dinner with strangers, they tables were that close. We had not even finished our starters when our main meals arrived at the table, when I asked the waitress to take it back she refused. A couple next to us had a larger table and the waitress asked if she could dispose their table to allow another couple to sit between us the man refused however the waiter then came over and divided the tables. The waiting staff were rushing all over the place resulting in two of the banging into each other and food went everywhere all over a customers clothing. Felt like we were eating in a cattle market. Won’t rush back as it spoilt the whole experience.

Went with my partner and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent service and delicious food. We would definitely recommend and will return

Came here for a date night but would also be great to meet friends (or even alone). Lovely service and great food, as a vegetarian there was loads to choose from.

Absolute gem of a restaurant. Had a lovely afternoon meal, great spicing, good portion sizes, no skimping on ingredients. The booths are really comfy. Liked the decor: prayer flags are a nice touch.

Delicious Indian food. Excellent job of finding us in our Airbnb apartment and couldn’t fault the food.

We had to wait 2+ hours for the Chicken Momos which we eventually took away with us as they arrived as we were about to ask for bill. We weren't charged for them... but, the waiting staff did not appreciate the situation and kept offering meaningless excuses. We tried at least a half a dozen approaches to get them to take the situation seriously. The Lady I was dining with had bad experiences on two previous occasions also. We only went there because I fancied something spicy and the Thai restaurant was closed on a Tuesday.

We dined here with friends, have been many times and can see why they have won various awards. Service and ambience is very good...however food is delicious. Pickle tray and Poppadoms is worth trying. We shared Haggis Pakora and Onion Bhaji. Wide variety of curries however standout was Lamb Burkheio? Only slight criticism is we did feel slightly pressured to order food and also things were cleared away in a rush but apart from that a great meal. We are lucky to have Gurkha in Musselburgh... thank you!

The paneer tikka was great but the saag paneer smelt and tasted stale, like it was spoilt . We’ve ordered so many times from Gurkha so this was quite unfortunate.

Will start by saying food was delicious but delivery service was rubbish. Waited 2 hours after site saying 1 hour and a phone call to ask where our food was. Not happy with way phone call was dealt with as they were also serving a customer in the restaurant at the same time.

The food was late, we called the restaurant and they told us it had left and was out for delivery. Food arrived and unfortunately it was all cold.

Booked for later last Saturday. Arrived to ready table and helpful staff. We got the mixed pakora and mixed kebabs to share amongst 3. Great variety and excellent quality. The pickle tray even acts as a guide to the heat range of the meals themselves. A vegi Byriani, chicken tikka Byriani and seek kebab arrived as mains and again the quality was exceptional. Seek kebabs with a combination of chicken and lamb kept them a delicious consistency. The whole evening was a lesson in customer service we watched the staff deal with some professionally difficult customers with nothing short of text book, engaging them with empathy and a genuine understanding of the customer perspective. The food here is phenomenal, noticed a sign promoting a chief of the year 2024, it’s well deserved. The waiting and other support staff take that creative skill from the kitchen and enhance it with customer service that puts the diner at ease. Brilliant find.

My brother and I actually visited twice last week such was the quality of the food and service. I tempt fate about once a year and go for a vindaloo, it was superb. My brother had the mixed grill selection and all was beautifully cooked and flavoured. We had a starter selection in advance and all was tasty. A couple of Gurkha beers too just for research purposes! The 2 waiters were most friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend.

I arrived to find various signs that the restaurant has won the Scottish Curry Awards. Perhaps a bit unfairly skeptical of the jury, my group reserved judgment until we had tried the food for ourselves. We ordered the chili momos, two curries, and doubled down on the momo vibe with the momo platter. There ought to be a Scottish Momo Award as the chili momos were absolutely perfect. I'd come back to Scotland just to have these again. The curries we tried were fantastic as well, convincing us that the Scottish Curry Awards carry some prestige. Great banter from the staff, who never once suggested that we might not be able to handle spicy foods. I always call out restaurants for being rude here, so I also give praise where the waitstaff takes a customer at their word that they're accustomed to spicy food.

Delicious food. Tandoori lamb chops were sizzling and delicious. Nepali rara was a first for me and also a favorite. I always love a good fusion food and the haggis pecora did not disappoint.

Delicious rara, naan, aloo gobi. Tikka masala and Korma are very sweet, which is not my preference, but other than that, food was great. They finish the meal with chai, chocolates, and warm towels, which was a nice touch.

Food was cold, dishes missing, tikka sauce was disgusting oily separated mess and not even sure it is a tikka , lamb was rock solid. Peshawari nan was barely filled and under cooked and it was very late. Won't be ordering again.

Ordered to collect from Just Eat, went in to collect and was advised that part of my meal was not ready just yet as I had ordered Momo dumplings which can take a little longer, I was given a little cup of amazing tea and had a nice chat with the lovely server. It was so nice in there, the food was amazing. I have a food baby now with food to spare! Definitely recommend!

Just finished one of the best takeaways I’ve ever eaten. Fantastic Lamb Pudina (no I’d never heard of if either!) with a naan that was good but not outstanding. Order the Pudina, it comes in chicken too!

The Mo-mo dumplings were a highlight! Very good food with some dishes that were new to us. Good level of spice and flavour, would recommend.
