I was really looking forward to this visit as a long time fan of Grandpa G’s. Unfortunately it soon came to light that the only thing going in this new ventures favour is the view. Even just walking up to the front door, there was a red flag straight away with a very strong smell of urine, because there are public toilets attached to the building. The bistro sadly was empty apart from 2 other people which meant there was a distinct lack of atmosphere. Our waiter definitely needed some training in customer service. I’m not sure how he managed to obtain 4 orders because he didn’t say a word; just approached the table and waited for us to speak. Only 1 out of 3 drinks were served. We eventually had to re-order the other 2, despite us only being 4 of a total of 6 customers in the place, I’m not sure how we were forgotten. The food was very mediocre. I had the chicken goujons which were incredibly tough, I ended up leaving them. The goujons, loaded fries, ceasar salad and 3 drinks came to £48 which quite frankly, I was disgusted at, especially as the food wasn’t great. Our second server who was an older man, cleared our plates and stunk of smoke. It was clear he had just been out for a cigarette. Not something I expect to smell when in a restaurant. Overall, poor service, poor food, extortionate pricing. Definitely will not be back, I would avoid going here, so many nicer places in the area. This feels like an Instagram trap!

We attended as a group of four for a 70th birthday breakfast. On our arrival the venue was busy, and we were seated in a booth which had lovely views of the park. Sadly, this was the only nice aspect of our visit. We initially ordered some drinks which included a latte with oat milk. After serving three of the four drinks, we were then informed they didn’t have any oat milk left. Unperturbed, a different drink was chosen and we proceeded to order food. One of our party decided the order the acai bowl, an item which is highly publicised through their social media page. The server then told us the sorbet for this dish hadn’t been delivered so it was unavailable. A second guest then ordered the Greek yoghurt bowl, to which they were informed that the yoghurt hadn’t been delivered either! Intent on not letting this spoil our special get together, guests ordered a different dish, one including some gluten free toast. Around 5 minutes later, the server returned to inform us they didn’t have any gluten free bread left. We expressed our disappointment and questioned why we weren’t informed of these issues from the outset. The server couldn’t have cared less if she tried. This was the nail in the coffin for us, so we left hungry and extremely disappointed. The restaurant seemed to be run by children, with extremely poor customer service skills, and no care for their role at all. As I’m sure you can guess from this review, we will never return here, or to their other restaurant. Sadly, it seems our experience is replicated through other reviews. We instead ate at the Rec Room Coffee House a short walk away. I haven’t eaten there previously but would highly recommend a visit. The venue is really nice and both the staff and food are fab.

Visited several times now, each time hoping for improvement on the last. Interior is lovely - we loved the hats too! Staff relatively friendly. Food is just okay, very overpriced for what you get and basic. The window hatch for ice cream has to be the most disappointing though, almost always have flavours unavailable and stock missing. The first time they had no cones, the second no tubs we were given option of only 2 flavours left in a coffee cup - it’s just shoddy and always seems dirty on the counter. It has great potential, we were so excited when they announced it was opening but it’s the most un-magical ice cream parlour visit. It seems poor management and stock control are an issue and young staff are just left to their own devices with very little guidance or customer service training. Be nice if it improves but I would say go elsewhere if you can. We recently visited Frederick’s in Chorley - now that’s how an ice cream parlour should and could be!

Our first visit to their new cafe/restaurant located on the edge of Uppermill park right in the centre of the village. The newly built restaurant is smart, spotlessly clean with a great menu and very friendly staff. I had pulled beef on a pitta bread which was in a very tasty sauce and my wife ordered a similar dish with chicken. Great food, reasonably priced too!

I am more than happy to support local businesses, especially right now but our experience here this morning was diabolical. The lady serving us was more interested in setting up a mobile nail business as everyone in the Bistro knew, despite this being a conversation she was having with someone at the serving hatch. lordered our drinks and asked if there were any cakes. We were told there was only lemon drizzle cake at first but then a brownie was "remembered" so we ordered one of those too without the ice cream. We were eventually served a Diet Coke and a Babycino. Ten minutes later, we were served the Brownie triangle too. I would imagine not all the view is nice but we were sat inside with the view of a fun fair being erected. I asked for the bill as I couldn't stand the smell from the kitchen any longer, the conversations going on in there and the general depressed atmosphere coming from the staff. l asked for the bill. I felt the Diet Coke, Babycino were reasonably priced but when I was paying £9.95 for a plain brownie triangle, I felt like I was being robbed. I don't think l've ever been so lost for words at the price of something so that was mediocre and really nothing to write home about. I only paid £15 for one twice the size in Claridges in London. I'm not sure who these people are trying to kid but their pricing needs a serious overhaul when a full English costs £13.50 but a brownie without ice cream costs £9.95. I was still so blown away once we were back in the car that l rang to see if there had been a mistake. When the phone was eventually answered in the third time of ringing, the person on the end of the phone, assured me the restaurant price for a Brownie with ice cream was £9.95 even though we didn't have the ice cream. Not that anyone will be bothered, but it was the first and last time we will be visiting. Clearly from other reviews, there's no customer care given to what people are saying but I do feel anyone that visits Trip Advisor need to be given the heads up. There are places that are so much nicer in Uppermill that don't rip their customers off.

We are always on the lookout for nice dog-friendly places to enjoy a coffee and a bite to eat, so we were intrigued to try the dog menu (dog sausage, bacon, ice cream and puppucino) and the vegan options for us. And it was the perfect choice. The friendly and helpful staff brought us water for our dog and her sausage was sliced and in a paper bag, which was a brilliant idea so she could enjoy it in bitesized treats throughout the meal and we could take some away with us. Our vegan bacon and sausage sandwiches were both a triumph, and served on very stylish plates. If you’re thinking of taking yourselves and doggy out for a treat this is the place for you! Highly recommend and we’ve booked yo go again already. Thank you

Sunday lunch was absolutely delicious, we had the chicken & beef and couldn’t decide whose was nicer! So credit where credits due to the chef. Unfortunately, it was terrible customer service from start to finish. We were a little bit early so had a wander round the park which was nice, we came back for our booking time and it was queuing out of the door (a good sign!) but we were seated at our table quickly, my partner was faced looking at the kitchen area but I got the park view which was lovely 🤣 From the minute we sat down you could tell there was an atmosphere between staff and it came across as though they were short staffed, and if that’s not the case they are just understaffed. Either way little comments were being made in front of us by the waitress, which was a bit awkward. We chased somebody up for us to take our order, when the waitress came over she kept on cutting off my partner during the order to speak to other staff? She did apologise, again just seemed off. Our drinks took 30 minutes to arrive which had to be chased up, a lad who didn’t look like he should’ve been working in the restaurant with his coat on delivered our drinks and said they were on the house due to being so late which was nice. My partner could see our food sat waiting to go out for around 15 minutes but it wasn’t happening. Eventually the chef served it to us himself, and as I’ve said it was absolutely delicious and if you can be bothered with the customer service then the food is worth waiting for. Heard from the table next to us there were no sauces ie horseradish, mustard etc. which is just poor so we didn’t bother asking. Another table next to us experienced the same service as us, however a family who’d sat down after us seemed to be served really efficiently, we joked they must be big tippers! 🤣 Eventually we finished eating, waited another 10/15 minutes for the plates to be taken from our table, then we paid and left. The drinks weren’t knocked off but it was exhausting by this point so weren’t going to push for it, My main bone to pick with this is if you’re short staffed or struggling, mention this immediately to customers when they sit down, as without that it does get your back up seeing some tables run smoothly and others not at all. It was organised chaos at a push and ultimately the staff looked frazzled, some were clearly too worn and some were trying their hardest running around everywhere. It’s not nice to see and this review is not towards the staff, but the management who are clearly not addressing the staffing issue, or at very least training them. If a manger sat in there for 5 minutes on a Sunday they would see. May return if we have all the time in the world as the food was amazing, lots to improve on though!

The food is amazing. The service let's it down. Went for my husbands birthday. We had to wait nearly 10 mins until he got his food when we all had ours. The chef had rung the bell to say it was ready at least 4 times. At one point we nearly went and got it ourselves. The older gentleman that is front of house makes you feel a bit judged and we were made to feel like we didn't belong. I was quite upset as it was for my husbands birthday. Food is fantastic though shame the service let's it down. He even served the table behind us when the service bell for my husbands food had been rung. Perhaps you have to be a regular to receive the good service.

Afternoon tea at 3 pm , couple of people in the restaurant when I arrived it really was not very busy at all and by 3:45 we were the only people left. There was very little atmosphere considering its the run-up to Christmas, and the older man who served us made us feel like we were an inconvenience. He began sweeping up around us and it was obvious that they wanted to close so we asked what time they were closing and he said “now” we hadn’t finished our afternoon tea , so we asked for some boxes. There were three of us. He gave us two boxes and when we asked for a third box, he was clearly put out and said there were none and therefore he gave me a couple of paper bags. All in all It was a disappointing experience , the sandwiches were mediocre on very thin slices of crusty bread, 4 slices per person which isn’t really enough to fill a small child let alone an adult. The scone was very nice. The cakes - which were a slice of chocolate brownie and a slice of a carrot cake , well I didn’t get to eat them because I had to take them home in a paper bag and the weather was so bad when we left the restaurant , that by the time I got to the car the bag was soaking so I ended up feeding the cakes to the birds . We were offered unlimited tea or coffee , but really only had a chance to have one because we were rushed out. We had one glass of Prosecco each at the start of the afternoon tea which was nice but lacking the extras like a strawberry . I don’t really think it was value for money considering the small portion of sandwiches the general ambience or lack of , and the poor service , all that considered I thinkit was quite an expensive do at just under £32 per person. I doubt I’ll return

Very rare I write reviews but…. I was compelled today after a superb experience. Food was great, service attentive and setting really nice on an otherwise miserable day. But I wanted to say special thanks to Ashley, Kayleigh and team. My daughter of 9 years old has a nut allergy, and whilst more recently lots of places ask about allergies, this place really cares. My daughter loved it and as parents we felt at ease. Will definitely return. The attention to detail and care shown is a shining example of what service should be like around allergies.

We had a family birthday and this was our first visit to Greene’s in Uppermill, it’s set in a small park with large floor to ceiling glass so you have a lovely, the interior is well thought out and very stylish, we ordered food from one of the two menu’s on offer, food was delicious and large portions and tasted very freshly made, the staff were very friendly and professional our waitress Kayley was lovely. We would definitely visit Greene’s again. Ps you can also order drinks and food from outside to take away which is a fab idea.

Quite tasty brunch but the ice cream was a touch sugary and artificial tasting to me but the young staff were friendly and their uniforms clean and smart and they let my dog in so that was good. The food arrived quickly and I had a table to myself but the crowd in the large booths were very noisy and there was an instagram young girl bending over the tables and posting photos while all her friends screamed loudly - I think it might be one of those places where people go to be seen rather than for the food but that’s OK there’s a place for everyone. Probably wouldn’t go back because of the rough customers (lots of neck tattoos and vaping) but the staff did their best to keep the rowdy girls under control. I asked for an ice cream to take away and they said I could sit in the park which was kind. Weather was OK so it was a nice location to visit and the village of uppermill was very buzzy.

We went on a Sunday and were quite disappointed by the food. The setting was beautiful and the staff were nice but the food was very expensive for what it was. The roast was £20 a head and was mediocre and barely had any gravy with it. Whilst you order they even ask if you’d like to pay for extra gravy, which felt very cheeky, and suggests they’re very aware of this! Supposedly the roast went ‘viral’ as it’s in a big Yorkshire pudding but it felt very style of substance. Gravy is a crucial part to a roast. You can’t scrimp! The other food looked nice but again quite pricey. The desserts were nice and pretty good value. It’s a shame really as the setting is so nice!

We visited here today as a family, I couldn’t believe the lack of customer service. We had to ask for everything three times, we waited a long time for food and were then told that we didn’t have enough time on the table to order desserts, this was despite us arriving 15 minutes early. The poor service made the average food seem extremely expensive.

We went as a famiy for a late brunch on a lovely sunny day when the roof at Greenes was rolled back. The breakfasts were OK although the sausages were poor quality (more like mass produced hamburger ones) and there were potato balls instead of hash browns. I was also not a fan of thethick sour dough toast. Service by local college kids was exemplary. Our server was almost embarassed to accept a tip. The highlight of the meal though had to be the ice cream. This must be the best ever and superior to HD. The brownie and Oreo sundae were out of this world. In school holidays and when the weather is fine it is a nightmare to find anywhere to park in Uppermill. Get a bus if you can.

If the location and interior were not as nice this would be more like a 2* for us. We came to dine with you one afternoon, the average coffees took about 20 minutes to arrive, food was also very average - my partner didn’t like the chicken baguette at all and he’s fairly easy to please. We walk our dog here often and on another occasion decided to order take out drinks, which took honestly about half an hour to order and then for you to make, you then gave us the wrong coffee. I ordered a cake, got home and it was the wrong cake. Staff seem very young and rushed off their feet with not much management happening.

First ice cream stop on arriving up North and they didn't disappoint. Grandpa Green was definitely high on the agenda, so we hen we went for a stroll through Uppermill and stumbled across this lovely beautifully presented establishment we had to check it out. Great ambience, fresh cool vibe going and overlooking a lively green. We decided to sit down for our ice cream as you can access the side hatch/kiosk (catch kiosk that is) or be civilised and take a pew in the bistro bit. We had plans for dinner, but whilst we waited for our ice cream the good being served looked absolutely mouth watering and to die for. Next time we are in town we will definitely be coming back for more than just ice cream . PS the only let down was the edible ice cream tub. Wouldn't recommend that your better off with a proper cone or a normal tub.

Great food, need some main veggie options for my wife so we can order more often. Sometimes order via Uber, hit and miss as orders often cancelled once paid for. Always run out of fried chicken so order early 👍
