Some of my food you could tell was reheated and dry. There was a burnt hole in top of one of Tupperware too. The onion rings were way to greasy. The food hasn’t sat well on our bellies. Definitely won’t be back! Don’t waste your money

The food is OK, in fact the food is better than OK but the service is Bad, shockingly bad. You call in a take away and you get the same 25mins until collection, now anyone that has ordered from here before knows 25 mins is actually 45 mins so you wait 45 minutes before going to collect only to wait another 30 minutes in the shop so the "25 minutes" is actually and hour and half.....This is EVERYTIME. I'm sick fed up of this place now and won't be coming back, If you told me an hour for collection I'd happily sit in my house for that time before coming to the shop, but to told a lie and fall for it EVERYTIME has just made me not want to come back. Never once this year has the food been ready for collection when you have told me to come and collect and tonight was the final straw.....NEVER AGAIN I have wasted too much of my life sat in your shop waiting for you to cook my food.

I was in Alford for the night and was recommended to try the Great Wall. Placed my order and headed down to the co-op just down the road and came back and my dinner was ready. Beef curry with fried rice, superb, the curry has peas in it. Also got a salt n pepper spare ribs which were excellent aswell. some takeaways do them and they are greasy and covered in a breadcrumby batter but this portion was dry spare ribs with thin sliced onions, carrots and chillis. 5 stars for me, excellent all round.

There is a notice on their front door saying "under new management and new chefs" .... really?? If what we had is massively improved then I shudder to think what it was like before! The worst meal I think I have ever had - without exaggeration! The restaurant itself is very dated and not the cleanest - the staff were pleasant on arrival however their clothes were covered in food stains....Table dirty when we sat down! There was 3 of us dining, one of which had the set menu (starter/main/side for £9.99) the other 2 had a main dish and a side each - we ordered 3 soft drinksVegetable spring rolls were actually the highlight of the meal.. things went downhill rapidly with regards to the mains...Honey chilli chicken - dried up 'chicken' no sauce, tasteless! Egg fried rice - horrible after taste, dried egg - it looked like it had been prepped a few weeks beforehand!Vegetable curry - sauce was tasty but the vegetables lurking underneath looked like they had seen better days (broccoli had brown stalks, mushrooms very soggy / as though there were off)Sweet and Sour Vegetables - completely inedible!! there was literally no sauce, the vegetables were unrecognisable/looked as though they were decomposed! one thing we all noticed that EVERYTHING had a horrible aftertaste - almost like detergent / chemical of some sort!we tried to complain about the quality of the food when the waiter came to clear the table (it felt as though a language barrier card was being played!)insult to injury - our bill was wrong! £16 over charge! I asked to see the menu to add it up myself and there was major resistance , waiter came back with £3 deducted from the bill!I suggest you avoid! A jar of uncle bens and some prawn crackers from the Co-op would make for a better meal!

Our waiter was a little confused when we asked for coffee and ketchup but we understand he speaks little English. Staff friendly. We ordered the special menu (starter & main for £9.99 each) and drinks. The cost was about £30 for the whole lot (kids ate some of ours). I ordered sliced beef with mixed vegetables and there was plenty of meat and crunchy veg. There didnt seem to be a childs menu, dessert menu or soft drink menu either. The staff gave our children 2 whistles on leaving, not the most ideal present but...!

Both main meal sauces where like jelly they where so congeled the Orange sauce tasted like peelings and very much like it had come from a tin this was inedable, the Thai sauce tasted like fish sauce jelly again from a tin, the egg in rice was dried out as if it where yesterdays, there was meat in the vegetable pancake rolls.

The Great Wall is a little disappointing to be honest. At times, the food is just what you would expect from your average run of the mill Chinese take away, but it is not... It is a restaurant, and for that reason, it fails to deliver. Meats are often poor cuts , being stringy and very fatty.Stick to the mushroom fried rice, or sweet and sour chicken and you will yet what you expect. Very from this and you will be disappointed.

Beware the almost 50% price hike for eating in! Going by outside menu (and restaurant and take away menu) it seems reasonable but we got a shock when the bill arrived - seventeen pounds more expensive than outside menu for 2 starters, 2 mains and a rice. Also 6.70 for a diet coke, orange juice and chinese tea for 2!!! Then they add 10% gratuity!!!!! We got blander food than usual cause our 4 & 5 year olds were with us and food was OK, but would have expected more for the price. Only positive I can think of was there was plenty of it.

Surprised to find a chinese restaurant in such a remote village as Alford, we chose the set meal for around £18, chicken & sweetcorn soup, crispy duck, chicken & cashew nuts, veg and sweet & sour beef. The courses arrived quickly but the soup wasn't great, too sweet and had a strange taste, other courses were tasty though. Have been a number of times over the past few years, usually with a friend for a sit down meal. Really like the 'buffet' option where you choose whatever you want from a wide choice menu for a set price, and can order more if you want it! Food always fresh, hot, very tasty and nice quality. Service usually pretty quick and always polite. They have never complained when I have shown up in dusty bike gear! Only had takeaway twice but it was very nice each time.Loos on the small side but always clean.Parking availability decent on the main drag but it's best to park up the side street if you are fit for the short walk as there is always space available up there.

I have had a few takeaways from this Chinese and have encountered several problems, chicken balls being raw in the middle, rice being microwaved and hardened, noodles very greasy and the chicken is very dry. The sauces with the dishes are generally good, the staff are very friendly and willing to help. It's a quiet atmosphere as not many people go to have a sit down meal, I also think the drinks and other beverages are overpriced. Seeing as it's Alford's only Chinese I would maybe return there, but if the food isn't up to standard again then I definitely won't be back!

Have to echo the thoughts of the first reviewer of this restaurant. The Great Wall is reasonably local so we have dined there several times and have found the service and the quality & standard of the food ranks alongside the best Chinese restaurants we have ever tried. You are made very welcome from the outset, and we found nothing was too much trouble for the waiting staff who were always happy & smiling. As the previous reviewer said, if you get the chance to order the buffet then that is what I would recommend, as everything is cooked to order. You can order as much as you wish, so it also represents excellent value for money. They also offer a take-away service which seems to be very popular - hardly surprising as it is of similar high standard and value. All in all a very welcome addition to Alford's dining-out options.

This is the only Chinese restaurant in Alford but this doesn't mean they don't try hard. It offers both dine in and take away service and we have used both quite a few times. They do a very nice shredded chilli beef and my father in law finds thier beef in black bean sauce the best he's ever had.Unusually for a Chinese restaurant they do a fairly authentic Thia red curry which I can recommend. If you get there and they are offering the "buffet" I can highly recommend this. It's not a buffet as such as they don't have dishes of cooked food ready but rather you choose from a menu and they then cook it fresh. You can order as many starters as you wish for your table then main courses with your rice etc. You can order as many dishes as you can eat and if you have a large party this is a great way to try out different dishes. They will quite happily bring dishes to you as long as you can eat them and the food is all of a high quality. (they reserve the right to charge for wasted food)
