Great China in Cardiff

Food freshly made is all really lovely. Fairly extensive menu too. Stumbled across it for a birthday meal and been back 3 or 4 times since. Staff generally attentive. Decor not the best and needs some modernising but the freshly cooked food outweighs the ambience factor.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Cardiff . All you can eat buffet from the menu for about 21 pound absolute bargain . Choice of about 80 meals Done here regularly with friends . Good tasty fresh food . Highly recommend

Food still very good but price has gone up and the selection decreased, no duck on menu anymore. Service present but a bit inattentive especially as we were only dine in guests. Clean but looking tired and dated, in need of a coat of paint

This very basic restaurant has the potential to be fantastic but unfortunately the service is beyond bad and the restaurant itself needs updating … what this restaurant has going for it is the food .. fab!! We’ve been twice now but unfortunately won’t be returning.. the shocking bad service isn’t worth it ! Sorry please learn by your reviews ! We may give you another try in the future but for the time being will be giving you a wide berth

Food was excellent but unable to finish it all and was informed that there was a charge of three pounds fifty pence per empty container to take home what we did not manage to eat but had paid for I had no problem paying a charge but three pounds fifty per container is very much over priced as the food we could not eat would go in the bin so took the pleasure out of the meal Such a shame as I thought this country was trying to reduce food waste

Fabulous food & nice people ~ Only downsides are no other diners on the two occasions we've been recently, meaning no atmosphere, and diners have to pay cash ~ No cards, which is a pain in these modern times.

I returned to using Silver Palace after many years of getting my 'Chinese' deliveries from a local competitor. I ordered a delivery on Saturday 20th November and whilst it was meant to be a quick fix (including chips ... guilty!), it arrived with cold chips and without the additional sauce that I ordered (guilty again for not being too adventurous!). Whilst they delivered the above promptly as a replacement both were still cold and inedible. Our additional meals were tasteless - even my lodger who usually reserves comment, agreed that it was awful. Doubt we will get a refund to spend elsewhere. Don't waste money at all costs 😔

No food arrived after waiting over an hour and a half and when I asked for my money back because they didn't know where my food was I was told I had to wait up to 10 Working days for refund....absolute joke !!

Very basic restaurant with a few tables so would need to book in advance. It is an all you can eat menu costing £18.50 per person. The food is excellent cooked fresh and piping hot. Plenty of choices of starters and main meals. The one downside is the service considering we were the only people in at the time 6pm we continually had to try and catch his attention every time we wanted to re-order food and to ask for the empty plates to be removed.We were a table of 8 persons and whenever he brought over new food never cleared the old plates away. We all felt he only wanted to do the minimum he had to and didn't seem interested in giving us the attention and service that would make us want to return.

Oh my gosh.....I was serving our meal from Great China tonight, and hit something hard in the curry. Guess what it was......a sink plug! A dirty one! You would think when I called them to inform them that they would be apologetic. Terrible. They simply offered to bring me a replacement for that one dish when they had a free delivery man later! Or give me a refund for that one dish of the meal. After I told them how unclean and ridiculous this was, they offered to give me a whole replacement meal when the delivery man was back later! When I told them that I would not want a replacement meal as it had ruined our evening and put me off their food ( I had already waited an hour and a half for delivery!), I had to put my foot down to even get a refund for the whole meal. Ridiculous! Then they said that they could only drop the refund off when THEY were available, and we have to give them all other dishes back. He said a tiny quick sorry after the whole long chat! I (who can't drive) therefore had to get a lift to return the meal to get my money back. When I got there, they were hardly apologising at all. Disgusting!!!!!!!!!!

Have not been here for about two years, used to always sit in and have the buffet , it WAS good value for money e.g. large menu choice for around £16 each. Service has always been poor but for the fact the food was really good I would still eat here. Since visiting last the price has gone to around £19 pp and the menu has now been reduced massively. Not worth it at all , may be nice for a take away but I would advise anyone not to bother sitting inside to eat until they lower the price , add items back to the menu and put a smile on their faces.

This is the best Chinese in Cardiff. It far from the poshest environment but the food quality and great value can not be beaten

We ordered a take away tonight and it arrived earlier than expected. It was great tasting and hot. The Just Eat driver was very polite and helpful. Very good experience and will use again.

Terrible service. Shop said delivery guy realised he gave our order to someone else. Would have to wait another hour to have it made again. Cancelled order. 20 mins later delivery guy arrives saying he’s got our order. Denied delivering it to wrong address even though shop said they spoke to him. Had delivery guy on intercom at this point with shop on phone. Delivery guy denying he spoke to shop and shop saying he had. I can’t see how we can ever trust them again. We couldn’t risk a potential situation where delivery guy went back to wrong address and collected food back. Far too risky based on Covid situation. Just terrible. Shop said he hasn’t got time to call delivery guy but yet had time to talk to me.

Best chinese ive had in a long time, have recommended and will order from them again.

As usual, the quality and portion size of food was very good. Delivery time rather long - was on time though, but a bit longer than it said online before we ordered. It’s our favourite Chiense restaurant and we order regularly- if delivery was consistently faster would order more often

Food was alright the poppadoms were stale and curry sauce leaked over everything. Wasn't the best Chinese I've had could have been better. Chips were dry as well and prawn toast was stone cold.

I always order from here and have done for years but last night was the worst service I’ve received. The food arrived 2 hours late meaning it came at 10pm! I phoned them multiple times but in the end had to contact just eat. It’s safe to say I’ll be trying a different Chinese next time as great China didn’t even apologise!

We have been customers of this takeaway for a while now. The number of times that they have been late for delivery is terrible. Also, several times now, they have said 1.5 hours until delivery, and then called at last minute saying that they will be another hour late!!!! If they do this to regular customers it is disgusting. Will will NEVER be using them again!

All hot ,the bbq spare ribs sauce is the best I've tasted, Singapore fried rice not that chilli hot but can't fault it for chicken chunks and prawns galore would recommend to anyone 😋

Disapointed tonight , we have ordered from you for many years and the food has been fab . Tonight we sent an order before your restaurant opened and it feels like the food we had delivered was last nights left overs ... dried up chicken in batter , very disapointed

Good quality food but though it arrived 15 minutes early, we then discovered we were missing a dish, called the restaurant to be told that it would be a 30 minute wait, meaning the food already delivered was having to be kept warm while we waited. No apology from the restaurant for the mistake or offer of compensation for the inconvenience.

The Lemon Chicken and Satay Beef is hands down the best in Cardiff.

Order time was originally advertised as 55mins then delayed to 90 minutes after order then further delay of 25 mins so total wait 115 minutes!!! When good arrived many items cold and quality poor first time ordering from here won’t be visiting again.

Rice dish was very nice but pork balls was minced pork and prawn toast didn’t taste much of prawn.

I can’t believe it, this has happened 3 times now.

Took nearly 3 hours to arrive after ordering and when it did arrive the food was cold. This is the second time this has happened, I thought I’d give them the benefit of the doubt but won’t be ordering again. Salt and chilli chicken was like cardboard and was barely chewable. Really disappointed

Chicken balls were over cooked very dark brown, chicken very dry Same with the chips over cooked and dry always been perfect with previous orders maybe deep fryer turned up to much as was strange it was same on both the fried foods.

Although the food is nice, they say that they won't be able to deliver for 1.5 -2 hours....and then they don't even make that time!!!! Awful!!!! And once they didn't even remember our order! The delivery man is lovely though. Dreadful time service

Una vez más, entendemos que puede haber retrasos, ¡pero informe a sus clientes si este es el caso! Falta total de servicio al cliente y, posteriormente, no volveremos a pedir desde aquí.

La comida aquí es excelente, pero el servicio es impredecible. (No todo llega al mismo tiempo). Han cambiado su menú y aumentado sus precios, no realmente para mejor. Agregar a la carta en este entorno parece desaconsejado: los hijos de los propietarios se sientan haciendo su tarea y jugando en sus iPads (con sonido), lo que creo que reduce este restaurante de restaurante a café (con comida para llevar), a veces solo se acepta efectivo, y puede ser bastante frío a veces.

They have changed the menu. Prices has increased and reduced menu options. Food is good but getting expensive.

What happened? New owners? On Saturday night I booked a table for 7. They no longer do the all you can eat buffet and the service was terrible. It all went wrong from the drinks onwards. On a table of 7, missing Chinese tea for one person and missing the ice (specifically asked for) for another. Starters were ordered and rather randomly a small plate of pancake rolls, seaweed and ribs turned up. Then 15 minutes later some more turned up with chicken satay and sesame toast. Then surprisingly another plate of food arrived including chilli squid (which was soo rubbery you couldn't chew it) - previously it had been delicious. By this time they hadn't come back to take the main order (every main course averaged out between £7 - £9), which seemed a lot. So my party got up and walked out, deciding to go to Got Beef just down the road - which was amazing. I went to the counter asking for the bill and sat down at the table. Another five minutes went by and a waitress came up to me at the empty table asking for the order for the main courses. Service terrible, food awful and expensive. Will never go back.

He estado comiendo en la Gran China durante varios años. Era todo lo que uno podía comer (no buffet), la comida siempre caliente, excelente sabor y abundante. Sin embargo, este sábado pasado 25 de enero de 2020, fui allí y descubrí que habían cambiado su menú para preparar comidas. Cuando digo conjunto, quiero decir conjunto. NO HAY ELECCIÓN, bueno, sí, tómalo o déjalo. Lo que nos dieron fue nuevamente caliente, un gran sabor y abundante. Se puede pedir cualquier cosa para una comida para llevar, PERO NO PARA COMER. Por mucho que me guste este restaurante, no volveré a comer allí, bueno, no hasta que vuelvan a todo lo que uno puede comer.

Have ordered previously ordered fron Great China and food has been lovely, tonight though it's been over two hours since ordering and no sign of the food. Have telephoned twice and been told it's on its way but still no sign. Do they not want my custom?

Ordered takeaway ssevral times form this place and food is consitently of a good quality and always reasonably priced - crispy duck with pancakes is fab!

Originalmente, no era mi intención comer en la Gran China, estábamos en Cardiff Bay y el restaurante que había elegido estaba cerrado, así que volví a un restaurante que había comido muchas veces.No nos decepcionó. Aunque es todo lo que uno puede comer, no es un restaurante buffet. Uno elige los elementos del menú y lo cocinan para usted.Es muy caliente y fresca (a diferencia de los restaurantes buffet) y muy sabrosa.Solo hay un inconveniente en la Gran China, solo en efectivo. No toman plástico.

Food was decent enough. Menu looks real good on my wall. Standout was the lemon chicken, verified be M*guel. Prawns were questionable in shape. Thank you and goodnight. No hairs! Soup was ‘gold’.

Saturday evening visit. Food was ok.One member of staff to serve and had a very hard time understanding English. Ran out of lager, asked if we could bring our own and were refused. Staggered service resulting in cold food. My son had half a bowl of chips n rice and was also charged full price buffet! To top it off, they even charged £1.80 for a jug of water!

Having eaten at this restaurant many times in the past, my wife and I decided to pop in for a meal on the way home from work. This proved to be a very big mistake and one we won't be making again. As we arrived early, there was no customers sat at the tables just two children sat at the back table. It was rather odd that there were no staff around, despite the restaurant being open, in fact my wife had to ask one of the children if the restaurant was indeed open because no one came to seat us. It then took ages for someone to come and take our order and as soon as the first dish arrived we quickly realized that the quality of the food has dropped dramatically. Very poor quality, dry ribs with hardly any sauce, duck dishes where the duck was dry and tasteless. Even the sweet and sour was flavourless, nothing seemed to be fresh, it seems to us that the dishes were microwaved ! Both my wife and I recall having some of the best food here but not anymore. What was worse than the food, was the abysmal service, there was literally no one but us in the restaurant and yet our second batch of dishes took over 35 minutes to arrive. We asked to order the next batch as soon as they arrived, so we could avoid another long wait but the staff member taking orders refused and instead went to see to a new table of customers that had just arrived and only returned to us after 20 minutes. At this point both my wife and I had eaten enough poor quality food and received enough bad service to never set foot in Great China restaurant again. Do your selves a favour and never go out for a meal at the Great China restaurant, actually it has the wrong name, it should be called the Piss Poor China Creche.

First class super food and service. Selection GREAT for 18£ per head recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Chinese. Must be best since the Swallow with Hoki at its head closed down.

If you go to eat in the reasturant you won't be disappointed, the food is lovely, generous portions always hot and you can have as many dishes as you want for a cheap set price! Just never order a delivery.. over 2 hours I waited for my food to be delivered. Not acceptable.

Had a very nice meal here with family. It is not a buffet, you order from a menu but you can order as many times as you wish for a set price, so long as you do not waste food for which you could have to pay a penalty of £5. This is something that all buffet type restaurants should do in order to cu out waste, I do not understand why people keep on getting food and then leaving it on the plates which obviously means that they were full already. the food was freshly cooked each time and came to the table piping hot, all dishes were full of flavour and portions were good. Service was friendly and efficient. Decor is not fine dining standard although very clean but if you want good Chinese food at a reasonable price this place ticks the boxes. Recommended.

My food still hasn't turned up. It was ment to be here by 7.45 which I thought was a very long time and now I have been told another half an hour. That's 2 hours from ordering! Terrible time and communication as you didn't even bother to update time on just eat. Very disappointed

phoned at 6-30 they said meal will be about hour and half phoned again 8-15 they said meal will be another hour.2 and three quarter hrs for a chinese takeaway.they are having a laugh.cancelled meal.

Ordered around 6.30, delivery at 8. Phoned 8.15 and was told another hour to an hour and a half. All she was saying it's busy and sorry. I think they missed our order. Two very hungry children and myself, very disappointed and very bad service. Will not be ordering again from them.

Amazing food, the only buffet I've been to which is made to order. You're allowed 2 dishes a time but as many dishes as you like. Good choice of fresh dishes, all the likely suspects at a chinese restaurant. The inside decor could do with a renovation, been the same over last 10 years I've been coming here. Small cosy place though, the food makes it 5 star. Highly recommend even for takeaway
