I don’t rate this restaurant at all- only that if I order it gets me off the hook for cooking duty….. This is the only Indian restaurant in the area so there’s no competition…. And that is an issue in my eyes.prawn dishes we now avoid as there’s very few and lots of sauce. The chicken was tough- now remember your food is not cooked to order- and who knows how many times it’s been heated? I ordered Three different chicken dishes and two of them were the exact same…honestly are you taking the locals for mugs? Two out of three of us had dodgy tummies the following day … absolutely will not return.

We generally use the takeaway service provided . The meals are always welcome from here and the Grace of India has a fine selection of authentic dishes. Used so often as our go to local indian restaurant where we are assured of an excellent meal. Service with a smile .

50% increase in takeaway price, over two months, is ridiculous, and not reflected in their online menu. Check price when you order or you might be shocked when you collect!

No alcohol, but bring your own. I preferred a Diet Coke. Service was very attentive and relaxed. Food , lamb madras, keema Nan and ghee fried rice was superb. Loads of meat in main, buttery different rice and a Nan full of mince meat spice. Totally stuffed , but glad I made another visit.

Having not been to the restaurant since before COVID it was lovely to return. We just went for a mid week treat. To start we were the only folk there, but others arrived during our stay. The decor is basic, but means you feel comfortable popping in in jeans. The food was superb. The starters of channa puri and paneer cutlet were especially good. Both arrived piping hot and absolutely delicious. We had main dishes and bread. All was very tasty. A very small down side of weak, instant coffee, but a minor point. And with a BYOB, the meal was really reasonable in cost - not much more than a takeaway. A great local place, with super tasty veggie options. I wish they'd have an online delivery option too, as we would use that too. We'll be back soon.

Used to be so good. Busy with takeaways but restaurant not busy. I had the weirdest starter ever, a king prawn, squashed, deep fried in batter and it was chewy with a horrid bit that made me gag. Yuk

On holiday at Haven caravan park, we always eat out at least once during our holiday (we usually carry food in). We have driven past Grace of India on numerous occasions. Tonight we booked a table. Warm welcome, delicious smells on entering the restaurant. Tables beautifully laid out. Our waiter attended to our soft drinks order (it's BYOB restaurant) and provided ice cold water too. Starters were king prawn poorie, chicken poorie. Poorie was as light as feather, chicken and prawns were in a delicious rich tomato sauce with just the right amount of coriander. Garlic chicken, chicken bhunna, mushroom rice, garlic naan. All piping hot, tasty and generous portions. The chicken in both dishes was tender and juicy. Both sauces very tasty. We also had popadoms, mango chutney, spiced onions and a hot lime pickle that was so yummy. 2 cans of diet coke. A total of £46. Very reasonable. My compliments to the chefs and the waiter.

We were a little apprehensive at first as we were the only couple dining but were pleasantly surprised with the quality and standard of the food. We had booked this restaurant the previous day ahead of our overnight stay in the hotel next door and upon arriving we were clearly the first customers of the day. There wasn't much of a welcome however - we were just pointed to our table and handed menus and asked for drinks. Sure. that's what you want but a "Good evening, welcome, how are you this evening?" wouldn't have gone amiss - though I must say I've been to a few Indian restaurants where the 'welcome' is much the same. Anyway, onto the food. Despite a rather lacklustre chicken kebab starter (it was fine, just chicken without any particularly flavoursome masala) the main course of Sarisha Murgh was tasty and good - although the supposed mustard flavour didn't come through at all. The naan breads were good though - thinner and more authentic than the usual massive ones you get. We also had dal tadka on the side which was ok - very much a homestyle recipe and not the tastiest I've ever had. All in all it filled us well however. The service was fine, if not exactly friendly and the interior is fairly spartan - but for a village the size of Aberlady it's good to have a choice of eateries and an Indian one at that. They just need to work on their welcome and perhaps also not charge £1.10 for poppadoms (plenty of restaurants will give them for free while you wait!). It's Bring Your Own Bottle too.

Got a takeaway while staying nearby for a few days break. Menu looked nice and I decided to try chicken biryani. My wife had the herb chicken and pilaf rice. The chicken in my biryani was dry, overcooked and chewy. The rice was greasy. The veg curry that came with it was quite nice. My wife quite liked hers and I tried it and it was better than my meal. We also had side of cucumber rathia, not the best, in fact the worst I've had. Safe to say I wouldn't rush back, maybe I just chose wrong going for biryani.

Visited the restaurant on a Monday night with my partner. Received a warm welcome from staff who were all wearing face masks. First time to this restaurant but it came highly recommended and didn't disappoint. The food was full of flavour and delicious. I like spicier stuff and they offered to make a curry I fancied a bit hotter for me. If I had one criticism it would be that it felt quite rushed. Starter came out quick then as soon as the plates were away the main was on our table so no time in between. This is very minor though and better than waiting ages so would definitely recommend and will be visiting again.

Been several times and never been disappointed. The food is freshly cooked with a reasonable choice of the usual dishes. The only drawback is that the premises are very small and as a result tightly packed so quite noisy. However that is a very minor factor. There are many more pluses and unlicensed so BOB which makes the cost attractive. An above average “Indian”restaurant and we shall certainly be back.

We have recently moved to the local area from the centre of Edinburgh. With this, we expected to have less access to restaurants/takeaways etc, so it was pretty important that our local indian was a goodie. Grace Of India is a fantastic family ran restaurant. Vile, disgusting and inedible were the words I was looking for last night when I started to eat some of my favourite dishes from this restaurant. I found them after getting over the shock of how dismal the food was, compared to several previous occasions. I have sung the praises of the place before and was deeply disappointed by what I received last night. Whether they let the staff who wash the dishes have a go or what, I don't know, but the dishes chicken and lamb kebab and lamb tikka massalam, were the worst I have ever encounteed from any Indian restaurant. This was our worst experience ever with „Indian“ food. We went there while on vacation in Aberlady. The staff was nice, but the food was horrible. We had two starters, then Chicken Korma and Chicken Tikka Massala and also Garlic Naan and Raita. It seemed as if they have no experience in preparing Indian dishes and are totally unaware of seasoning. Not even the Raita tasted like it should, it consisted of some sort of watery yogurt with a few strips of cucumber in it and we had to add lots of salt before we could eat it. In fact, we had to add some salt to everything and this has happened never before when eating in an Indian restaurant. Our overall impression was that this is not an Indian restaurant but just a fake. The name of the restaurant „Grace of India“ is in fact a total disgrace!

I visited this restaurant with my husband after reading the great reviews below. The pro's were that the table cloths and candle were nice as was my dish of garlic chicken. The cons were that the seating area inside is quite small and we were sitting near the desk which is popular with customers picking up their takeaway. This meant the front door was constantly opening and closing which was a bit draughty and it was quite noisy too so I wouldn't recommend it as a date venue. My husband ordered the chicken tikka and was disappointed that it didn't come with a tikka sauce on the side. All in all the food was ok. If I lived in the village I would probably go back for a takeaway but I wouldn't travel to sit in.

When we arrived there was a few people waiting for take aways but no people eating in the restaurant. Firstly the food order was incorrectly noted so we got the dishes arriving at the table. Secondly when one of the lamb dishes arrived it was cold inside so made eating it very unenjoyable. Lastly the chutneys which were served were very over priced and also they weren't properly pickled. We have been regular visitors to the Grace of India since it opened several years ago. They have an extensive menu and, having tried most of it, we have never been disappointed. The food is always beautifully prepared. We are always looked after very well by the friendly staff and because it is BYOB it is very reasonably priced. We do tend to go in the early evening midweek when it is quiet. There are always spotless white cotton tablecloths and napkins which are nice touches in a small local restaurant. I believe it is one of the best Indian restaurants in East Lothian.

I visited the East Lothian area on two successive weekends and ate at Grace of India on both Saturday evenings. The food is very good indeed and the restaurant is comfortable. The BYOB aspect is fine if you have remembered that this is how it works. I have seen some of the comments on service and I think there may be an element of truth to these. We did a bit more chasing than we would normally do but had no long delays in service. Perhaps there just needs to be closer attention to this in the restaurant and perhaps the takeaway business is diverting some of the attention. I would return any time I am in the area and think the staff are friendly and welcoming.

Slow to take orders, not enough waiting staff and all in all they were more focused on the takeaway orders than their patrons dining in house. Need to work out if they are a restaurant or a takeaway, certainly not both at the moment.

What a dreadful restaurant this is. Not sure how the ratings are so high but clearly the patrons of this restaurant don't have much taste. The service was extremely poor - we had to ask for drinks; ask for water; ask for a bottle opener. The staff were clearly not interested. The order took so long; they forgot the poppadums and started to make excuses about lack of staff. The food was cold and quite unappetising. They had a constant stream of people looking for carry outs - clearly there must be nowhere else to go in Aberlady for a carry out. I could go on and on about lack of service and poor but I won't - suffice to say I wouldn't recommend it and won't be back.

Service was non existent. Had to prompt staff to take our order after waiting 25 mins - forgot the pre starter order completely - forgot to bring a bottle opener. Starters were a disgusting cold greasy mess, and after waiting over an hour for the starter to be cleared away we had to ask for our main courses. Even placing water on the table was a problem for the waiting staff. The main course was cold and resembled something you could pick off the shelf in any cheap supermarket. If there was a chef on duty which I doubt then he should get back to basics or start buying in ready made meals and heat them up in the microwave - at least that way the food would be edible and hot. Goodness knows why there was a huge chunk of pineapple in a prawn dish. The portion size is ridiculously small so maybe this was to bulk out the dish to make it appear that you had a decent sized portion. And then there was the problem with flies, they were the only things moving in the restaurant, as the staff were more interested in take away orders than serving the tables. We found it quite disgusting that there were flies landing on the dirty dishes at our table . As for the staff they definitely couldn't have cared less if you had an enjoyable meal or not. In fact we were served by 3 different members of staff and not one got our order right - all had to be prompted. Clearly, no time has been spent on training or proper etiquette when serving the patrons. We will definitely been giving this place a wide berth and going by the number of flies in the restaurant I think we were lucky not to have suffered stomach upsets.

Ein nettes kleines Restaurant in einem netten kleinen Ort an der schottischen Ostküste. Freundliche Bedienungen, schnelles und gutes Essen. Auch vegetarische Gerichte. Preis-Leistung stimmt!

As very part time residents of the village, we always ensure we pay at least one and preferably several visits to the Grace of India. Food is delicious and fresh, the staff are delightful and the BYOB with no corkage is an excellent bonus. Have now tried many dishes from the wide ranging menu and have not found anything I don't like. If you are in the area, you really should try it out.

Having driven for several hours we needed to find a restaurant for our evening meal. Grace of India was only 3 miles away so we chose to visit on a Sunday evening. This a wonderful restaurant & takeaway, run by a young and enthusiastic front of house. This was a great experience, fresh food prepared by a skilled Chef, at an incredibly affordable price. You have the option to take your own alcoholic drinks, but they do serve soft drinks. Service was excellent and very polite. We both said this was the best Indian meal we had eaten ever!!This is a small village with few amenities but this must be their jewel in the crown!

My husband and I visited the Grace of India last weekend whilst in the area for golf. The restaurant has a byob policy - which is great. The welcome we received was very friendly and the food exceptional. My husband had a Ginger Murgh (chicken) and I had Chicken Tikka Balti both of which were delicious. We had rice and Naan, a cauliflower bhaji and a saag aloo. Of course we ordered too much but each dish had its own distinct flavour. No 'one pot does all' here! Apparently the owner/chef and father to the front of house staff has worked in curry restaurants all over Edinburgh and has now settled in Aberlady opening his own restaurant. If you are anywhere near Aberlady and love curry - this is the place for you.

Meal with workmates last night. I had chicken podina. Wow! Really good, fresh and tasty, lots of fresh herbs and spices, big portion, reasonably priced. The family were super obliging and friendly. A local gem, I'll be back soon, without a doubt.

I know the Tiffin box can be a bit hit or miss but tonight was truly the worst curry I have ever eaten. I did not this it was possible to make a couple of curry’s so bland, undeseasoned and tasteless. One time too many for me, won’t return and wouldn’t advise anyone else to order from here.

Ordered a delivery. Order to delivery 90 minutes. Food ALMOST luke warm. Sag aloo - good Mushroom Pilau - ok Chicken tikka makhani - totally tasteless. Naan - meh Food delivered in foil so needs to be decanted to microwave. My friend described the food as "average to $hite". I've tried this restaurant over the years hoping it will improve. It hasn't, ever. Never again.
