We returned to the Eastern Eye after a break of about 20 years. We had the Sunday-evening buffet and found the food decent and the service friendly. However, it was January, Storm Isha was raging outside and there was no detectable heating in the large restaurant. The radiator beside our table was ice-cold. I know electricity prices are prohibitive but, if we return, it won't be before June.

Hugely disappointing! Our first and last order from this place. Korma curry - awfully watery with no flavour. The prawns that were added to the curry were tiny and absolutely inedible. Peshwari naan - gooey, chewy without any crunch. It felt that it was barely baked! Tandoori prawns very expensive and tasted like they were reheated. Very gooey. All food arrived luke warm and it tasted like it was reheated rather than cooked to order. It tasted like a reheated old-day, average quality food. Prices that we were charged were different to the ones on the menu and on the call we were told that they needed to update menu on their website as prices are higher. Prices align with London curry houses but completely no comparison on taste and quality of food.

I can honestly say I would rather eat dog sh!t I ordered chick tikka was more like running sh!t on a plate, and I asked for egg friend right I got special friend rice, special like the chef that cooked it

Please improve your butter chicken recipe it was not right tonight Not sure what kind of sauce that was but it was not butter chicken. Lamb was ok and naan and popadums were good.

First time going to Sunday family buffet. Was very disappointed at the tiny selection. 2 starters one if which was cauliflower. Only 1 rice and 3 main courses to choose from and lots of lettuce. The nan bread was main to order and was good.. The food however was tasty. It was a soul less place with no atmosphere . I was not impressed with staff cleaning the entire table lifting mats too with wet cloth whilst we were sitting and still had our drinks to finish. Smell of disinfectant wasn't pleasant. As we have a lack of Indian restaurants in our area we may try another time but order from the menu before we write it off .

Appalling service. I called to order a meal for collection. Took ages to get through and when I did I was asked to ‘ hold a minute’ . I spent just over 10 minutes listening to people taking orders then they hung up on me! Have had take out from there before but I will not be back. Would give zero stars if I could.

Love our local Indian restaurant. Ali and his team know their food and how to look after their customers. We've been going here for year's and can't remember a bad experience.

Great food every time I visit, big varied menu with good options and portion sizes. Service can be a hit or a miss, it can be slow or rude/chaotic. Interior is outdated and could do with being updated.

Consistently good 'Indian' takeaway starters and curries - our favourites are the mixed kebab starter and the Naga Lamb & Chicken Madras main.

Got a family dinner takeaway with 4 different curries, and every one of them was excellent.

An enjoyable meal, the starters were excellent, tasty, and fresh. Lamb main was again delicious. Unfortunately, the chicken was a bit tasteless, the sauce was lovely but the chicken was lacking in tast. Need marinated longer. There was on street parking around the corner but only three spaces in front of the restaurant. The atmosphere in the restaurant itself was lacking. It did improve when some background music was finally put on. First World problems, I know, but that's just my views.

If you are looking for quality Indian food and decent service - don’t go. I love a vegetable Biryani and order this from Indian restaurant that I go to. I was really disappointed with it and I would go as far to say that it was the worst one that I have ever had. They use frozen veg - specifically a pea, green bean, carrot & sweetcorn mix. Usually a biryani would have cauliflower, broccoli, potato’s chickpeas etc but none of the fresh stuff is used. The rice was also mushy and tasteless. The garlic naan was dry & flowery and there was nothing garlic about it. We were offered one drink when we arrived and once we were finished our glasses lay empty for a while. There were no offers of more drinks. We asked if we could order more drinks but no one came to take our order. We had to ask 3 different people on 3 separate occasions to order more drinks. We were barely finished our main course and the bill was put down in front of us. I asked if we could have dessert or teas and coffees and was told quite abruptly ‘we’re closed’ this was at 9.25pm The right thing to do would have been to ask if we wanted anything else before the kitchen closed at 9.30 instead of putting our bill on the table without anyone asking for it. I would be more understanding about the lack of service if the restaurant was busy however, we were one of 5 occupied tables in there!

First takeaway delivery. Very impressed with quality of food. Charming delivery driver and delicious food. Will definitely order again.

What I ordered was not that good. Tho the ambiance and people working were really professional.

Honestly can’t rate this place highly enough. The service both takeaway and in-restaurant is always friendly and they deliver some of the best tasting curry I’ve had. One of Haddington’s gems for sure

Table of 11 at the Buffet last night when we all enjoyed an excellent meal, good variety of choice of very good quality. The service too made a significant contribution to the all round enjoyment of the occasion. Well done Ali for your ongoing successful management of the Eastern Eye. Much appreciated. Absolutely the worst Indian meal

Bad service, just called to ask if they take card or just cash and was told sorry we are too busy (1645 on a Sunday night). Obviously don’t need the business. Just hung up on me. Won’t bother them again.

Had a lovely Lamb Bhuna to take away and a delicious Peshwari Naan, lovely young man greeted me at the door, smelled gorgeous inside and waiting area was comfortable. Would go back in a heartbeat.

We booked a table here having read the other good reviews! Staff were friendly & welcoming when we arrived we got seated to our table quickly! Menu looked great! Started with poppadoms & dips which were lovely! My husband had butter chicken & I had North Indian chilli garlic chicken all seemed really nice when we ate them however about an hour & half after eating my stomach became terribly upset, the pain was unreal & as it follows I had sickness & diarrhoea for the next 5 days,I was off work the whole week I have never felt so unwell! Definitely the food as it was all I had eaten that day!

Excellent food and service spotlessly clean restuarant will sit in the next time we're back in the area.

Sunday buffet is a must as the food is amazing and Ali the owner is really nice and always makes time to chat. If you dont fancy anything on the buffet then the main menu is very good.

Our favourite Indian restaurant! Saturday evening after work we ordered chicken korma, pilau rice, CHIPS (they are so good with the korma from the Eastern Eye) Peshwar nan and it was absolutely lovely! I also ordered a chicken madras which was good but not the usual standard as the chicken was less fall off the bone than usual. I am still giving 5 stars as this isn’t usually the case.

Did not like the buffet, limited food and not very much of it to which I found strange as it was very quiet. Tried the lamb dish and it was very chewy. The only thing I liked was the butter chicken but I got the scraps at the bottom. When I went up for seconds there was still none out, the staff said there was more coming out and yes it was coming out as I was leaving. Used to go all the time before covid but unfortunately I was very dissatisfied with the food. So it was a very expensive meal for me for a rice and a scraping of butter chicken!!!

Awful ,curry was Not hot (temperature wise) ,luke warm/warm. Will never visit again. Plus -, staff probably seemed disorganised -, ironically the restaurant was almost empty at this time, probably more visible staff than customers at the time, Wasn’t even worth half the money I paid, Even the bread (Nan bread) had a uncooked texture in the inside despite a lovely looking outside. Shame as the actual curry was flavoursome.

We live 40 mins away but usually only get an Indian from here as it was always the best. However the pst few occasions we have found the staff unfriendly, higher prices and less food. We visited at the weekend and called in an order - double checked it while on the phone and again when picking up…I’ll also note that when we collected the order the staff member was very unfriendly (the older man) and it was quite unpleasant. By the time we got home and unpacked it we found that there was a main dish missing! To be fair, when we called to say this, they didn’t argue and offered a free dish next time or a refund. As we didn’t know when we’d be back we chose the refund…they then offered to deliver the dish but we said considering how far away we were, that wouldn’t really be feasible. When discussing the refund and they were trying to figure out the price we suggested rounding it up to £10 seeing as one family member didn’t get their meal and it was too late to get anything else - and now the portions of meat are so small, it wasn’t really possible to share. It was less than £2 for a big inconvenience and disappointment and the man on the other end agreed to this. However, when the refund came through they had just refunded the price of the dish. Again, not a massive issue but considering £10 had been agreed, we were pretty cheesed off. Unfortunately there have now been too many negatives with this place and we will be looking elsewhere.

The food is very nice but their prices have shot up & I counted only 5 small pieces of chicken in my curry. Bit of a rip off if Im honest. Shame as they used to be more reasonable with pricing & the portions were plentiful. More sauce than chicken now ☹️

a party of 14 of us, we didn't choose , we just let them feed us as much to eat as we could, and more available if required food was ok, if a bit average sadly however a great night was had by all

This has to be one of Scotlands best Indian Restaurants. Amazing food, with friendly staff that are very helpful at explaining each dish and it origins. The restaurant specialises in Bangladesh Cuisine, but many other dishes are available from their very comprehensive menu. We were met and greeted by the owner, Ali, who made us feel very welcome, showing us to a comfortable table. Menus and drinks were delivered promptly while one of the waiters helped with explanations on the dishes we chose. Both courses arrived with perfect timing. We chose Bengali Shish Kebab and Meat Samosa as starters, followed by South Indian Chicken, and Naga Lamb for the main. Instead of a plain rice dish, we ordered Prawn Biriani. All of the food was simply sublime. I would definitely recommend visiting. A definite 10/10

The food is very average. One out of at least 6 staff were wearing masks, despite signs up all over the place explaining that it’s mandatory to wear a mask. Try Number 7 for a nice curry in Haddington

Excellent meal and the service was first class. Reasonable price. We couldn't finish all the food and the staff gave us a takeaway with a free nan bread which was very generous. Will certainly return.

Had a takeaway from here while stopping in a holiday cottage near Haddington. Lovely food and friendly staff. Busy place, always a good sign. Excellent.

Great curry, Dahl n ginger chicken in particular

Visited with friends. We didn’t get a very warm welcome, the waiters looked miserable no interaction whatever. Only wine available was house red or white. We asked for some starters to put on the table and some popadoms. Then main courses arrived and the table was cleared of starters without asking if we were finished. The main courses we had a selection of four were tasteless and bland the chapattis were too thick and tasteless. So a lot of food was left. The waiter cleared it away and then we had coffee. We then started to feel rushed as they hovered and lifted plates and bits of cutlery. We felt they wanted us out. There are mixed reviews on this place don’t know if it depends on when you go but all I can say is that it was a waste of money and we will never be back and waiters cheer up please.

Had a takeaway from here and it was absolutely spot on. Lovely Indian food. Nice staff, clean and tidy. Had my Benchmark chicken tikka madras and it passed the test. Lovely, highly recommended.

We stopped off by chance whilst heading towards the long drive upto Highlands. 2 young lads just learning the ropes as waiters but the food was fabulous and plentiful. I love my food and can tuck in to a decent portions, I struggled. Mixed kebab...

Dreadful. Ordered two dishes. Chilli Garlic Chicken and a Lamb dish. The difference between the two was only the meat. Chewing gum lamb and tasteless chicken. Stodgy sugary nan and greasy rice.

When ordering food specifically asked not to put coconut in meal.after waiting one hour on delivery.food was hot .had to guggle meals around so i didnt get meal with coconut.not great when uve taken time to sort meals .will get another meal another time to see if things change

Fantastic flavours, always been delighted with the food and service in this restaurant. The takeaway service is also very good. The restaurant is clean, and fresh, the ambiance is great and the staff could give lessons in customer care.

I came with a large group to celebrate a win by the mighty Haddington Athletic Football Club. The owner and waiters were superb making us very welcome and ensuring we had a very enjoyable night out. Good food too.

Been coming here for years, good tasty food and friendly staff. One tip, if you like currys to be extra spicy and fragrant ask for your chosen curry to be made Bengali style. Extra spices and freshly chopped chillies are added to give the dish more of a punch, this makes for a superb Biryani or Seekh Kebab.

Wasnt to much variety on the buffet menu but what was there was nice.

We visited on Sunday and was greeted by the rudest waiter. If we had not had a friend with us I would have about turned and left. Encountered the same man throughout the evening and he never once smiled or indeed seemed to be happy to be there. Not all members of staff were like this. Food was a buffet and just ok. Will not be back.

Always great food always great service if you like an Indian and your in East Lothian this is the place to go! Takeaways always exceptional they do tapas during the week at lunch times and a buffet on Sundays Bose recommended!

Delicious takeaway. Ten out of ten for my king prawn biriyani. Dealt admirably with several large takeaway orders on a Friday night from our group. Points for packaging too compared to other outlets: supplied in recyclable foil and cardboard containers, not the usual plastic, and packed in recycled cardboard boxes instead of loads and loads of carrier bags. We'll be back.

Mother’s day treat to this restaurant was such a disappointment - the buffet comprised a total of nine heated dishes - only three meat, with all the others being veg with one rice - and two starters - veg samosa and “chicken balls” - we assume a pre-made substitute for proper pakora.
