What a GREAT find introduced to us by friends. The food was outstanding, reasonably priced, friendly attentive staff and would definately rate it above all other Thai restaurants in an area of Haywards Heath and beyond. We will be back very very soon.

Not great at all. Pad Thai was okish but paenaeng curry was awful , so sweet like eating rice pudding. I had a lot of Thai food in the past from various places but this must be the worst. Had to add chilli flakes to make it taste of something. I wouldn’t order from here .

Party of 3, starters we had Chicken Satay, Ribs and prawns expensive for what it was. Steamed fish and Beef Massaman curry - mains better than the starters but nothing not amazing. Maybe it was just an off day as we have eaten here before

This restaurant is just down the road from our home in Balcombe. It’s situated in the White Harte Pub. We booked a table for 6.30 as they were busy with a large party later on. We ordered a lovely bottle of Ditchling white wine. For starters we both chose tempura prawns. Unfortunately the prawns were covered in thick batter. The prawns were tasty though, if a tad overcooked. Main courses were nice - duck with sweet and sour sauce for me and chicken with red curry sauce for my husband. We shared some greens with chilli and had one egg fried and one jasmine rice. For pudding we both had the delicious coconut ice cream. We would definitely return as it’s a very cosy atmosphere and staff are friendly. Top marks for serving local wines. Next time I’ll order prawn stir fry as I saw someone with that and it looked great.

Just back from an early evening meal at the restaurant. They were full booked but managed to squeeze us in and so pleased they did!! Such a great experience - food was amazing, staff was, as always, so accommodating and welcoming and we just loved the ambianc, with the added bonus of a great log fire, super night! Amazing freshly cooked Thai food! Prices are reasonable and take away service prompt. I particularly liked that they are serving from the rear door (so you are in open air) during the pandemic - and phasing pick up - so you don’t spend time close to other people. Absolutely 5 star in all ways!!

We visited on a cold January evening and were greeted by a cosy atmosphere and a real log fire. We ate from the set menu which was beautifully cooked and tasty. It was reasonably priced and service was just the right pace. We saw people calling in for their takeaway food which appeared very efficient. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy freshly cooked Thai food.

My husband and I visited to celebrate his birthday. It was our first visit, so we were unsure what to expect. We chose one of the set menus, to give us some variety. The food came out fairly quickly and really was delicious. The only reason I haven't given the Good Evening a full rating is because the portions could have been a little larger and I was surprised that we were not asked if we would like to see a desert menu. It almost felt as though they were waiting for us to leave, despite it not being particularly late. The lady serving also didn't smile a lot, which gave a slightly uneasy feeling. I would return again though, if I happened to be in the area, ad the food was very nice

The food was delicious and most enjoyable. We will definitely order from you again! Thanks so much!

But the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. Frankly the combination of restaurant and pub is awful. Sitting at our table there was a queue to use the toilets next to us. It's loud was loud and overcrowded due to the bar literally next to us. But I suppose allowances must be made for it being bonfire night, however this would not have happened had it just been a restaurant.

As a group of 3 couples we went for dinner there on Saturday evening. The lads ordered the hot mixed platter to start and share which was the only mistake as it was 'OK' but nothing more. I have had better mixed platter starters, average. The girls ordered Hot&Sour soups with coconut milk and one of the girls had the Thai fish cakes, both of these starters were a much better option, the girls were very happy with their starters, that's what counts I guess.....Main courses were excellent, a mix of Thai curries and stir fry dishes, all extremely enjoyable and didn't leave you with that heavy feeling. The flavours were strong and pleasant, the rices, noodles and sauces very good indeed. Everybody felt the food wasn't heavy at all and despite the average platter, no complaints at all.Service was pleasant and attentive. Intend to return.

I've been to the good evening several times before and always had a fantastic experience-this was no exception. We went on a Friday night and booked a table which was lucky as the place was heaving with locals. We had mixed starter hot plate to share with the fresh rice paper prawn rolls and everything was great. Particular stars were the fresh prawn rolls very light and fragrant, corncakes and the chicken satay absolutely delicious. For mains we had a big selection ranging from prawn pad Thai, Thai green curry, Thai red curry and Penang curry. The Penang was gorgeous very rich but enjoyable. I think the other currys were good as they were in a broth with lots of sauce and vegetables so nice to share. Coconut rice was gorgeous as were the Thai crackers. We had puddings, although small the sticky rice, Thai sweet potato and Ice cream was absolutely gorgeous!Definitely recommended never had better thai food and that's not just my local bias as I live in the village!

I am surprised that no one has so far reviewed the White Harte restaurant itself. I understand that lunches are provided in the same restaurant by the actual management of the pub. We had Saturday lunch there, it could not be faulted.I have grumbled frequently about faux steak pie - stew with a biscuit put on top at the last minute. Not here at the White Harte! My steak and mushroom pie was perfect, good tasty filling, and the most crumbly melting pastry cooked on top as it should be. Mash potatoes (to mop up the gravy) were not on offer, but the chips were perfect. The vegetables were fresh and al dente. My bread and butter pudding was served with custard, as it should be.The White Harte at lunchtime deserves to be much better known.

Following a recommendation of the Good Evening Thai restaurant by a friend a couple of months ago, I finally got my act together and headed out on a freezing cold Tuesday night for some warming Thai cuisine. We were surprised to discover that the restaurant is joined on to the side of The White Harte inn (though under different management apparently) but otherwise is relatively non-descript. Small and comfortable would be the best way to describe it I suppose. Our table was situated next to a charming log fire which was happily crackling away in the hearth only a few feet from where we were sitting. In such humble settings we weren't really expecting that much from the food, but I can assure you that it was absolutely fantastic. We selected a variety of things from the menu (Chicken Pad Thai, Sweet and Sour soup, Coconut rice, Chicken satays, Thai Green curry, Red curry and a couple of seafood dishes) and in tapas-like fashion mixed and matched from the panoply of dishes that were laid out before us. Everything was superb. The curries were fragrant and delicious, the noodles hot and flavoursome, the seafood dishes fresh and filling. There was hardly a modicum of food left after we had cleared our plates and we declared ourselves very satisfied with the meal.We were then treated to a bill that came to less than £18 a head which was a pleasant surprise considering we'd ordered starters, far more main courses than we should have, and a round of beers too. I will definitely be coming back and would recommend The Good Evening to anyone looking for a quiet, delicious meal between friends/family.

I don't know how a stranger would ever know that the Good Evening exists. It is part (although I understand separately managed) of the White Harte pub on the main road through Cuckfield.Good Evening specialises in Thai cuisine, and does so very well. We were a party of 8, including two children, and there was plenty of choice on the extensive menu to please everyone. Everyone, including the children, thoroughtly enjoyed the food, portions were substantial, and the service was very polite and helpful.Good, modestly priced wine.Perhaps not a place for a quick meal, but well worth finding your way there for a pleasant relaxing evening.

My girlfriend I popped in on a whim (I live in Cuckfield) one weekday night. Very unusual set-up...a locals pub, with a gastro-pub restaurant on the other side of the wall from the lounge with a Thai menu. I love Thai food and we were in for a treat. A rich and diverse menu with more than the usual westernised fare. The service was perfect, the ambience very pleasant and the food out of this world...it really was superb! Honestly the best Thai I've had outside Thailand itself. Do yourself a favour and give it a try, and do me a favour and give it a try, because there weren't too many people in attendance when we went and I'd like it to stay in business so I can enjoy it in the future. Oh yes and cheap too - about £50 for two courses for two including wine.

Personally, I love the fact that this is a 'locals' pub but also a Thai restaurant! The food is always really fresh and scrummy. One reviewer passes comment on the curries being 'watery' but authentic Thai curries are much much thinner than the conventional brown goop you get from our inauthentic Indian takeaways and all the fresher and lighter because if it! We have only had takeaways from here but the restaurant looks lovely too and the service is always extremely friendly.

Very disappointed by the food from this restaurant after hearing good reviews. We ordered a take-away mid week of chicken green curry and beef paenaeng red curry. Portions extremely small, container half full, sauce watery, very little meat in either curry and meat of a poor quality.

After a recent trip to Thailand, I have been craving good, authentic Thai food. Good Evening at Ye White Harte delivers exceptional value and taste, a taste only rivaled by the food of the street sellers in Chiang Mai.The service was courteous and friendly and the food was just outstanding.
