Surely theres only 2 things to get right.......... Firstly, it is the service. Woman serving made me feel like a total inconvenience and I was clearly stopping her from watching Coronation Street or something equally as miserable. No please thank you or nowt. Secondly, its got to be the food. Its a chip shop so surely they have perfected the art of making chips......sadly not.....the chips were quite honestly HORRIBLE. Grey looking, luke warm and chewy. Did anyone actually bother to check them? Wont be returning here in a hurry. There may be alot of choice but this is clealy to detriment of quality.

Deliciously light crispy batter on my fish and for one who doesn't usually dig chippy chips, I was delighted to have gotten my hands on a few of these. Thank you and well done

Gave this place two stars a year ago, thought I would give it another chance, but to be honest I’m surprised it’s still in business, this must be the worst chippie in Stirling, cold, tough and greasy chips, looks like they’ve been reheated and lying in the display for half the day, the fish batter was thick and soggy. Poor quality, and definitely not good value for money, doubt I will ever visit again, shame, because it used to be the best in Stirling.

Went along this evening for a quick and easy dinner, Haggis and Chips. As I left the shop with my food I took one bite into the haggis to find it was freezing! Totally undercooked and disgusting! I walked back in 3 minutes after leaving and the guy behind the counter literally took the haggis and bit into it (as if he didn't believe me when I said it was cold)!!! He then dished me up a new haggis and forgot all about the chips, maybe because he was on the phone to his mate while serving me! I had to ask for my chips back! Honestly disgusted at the service I got, especially when customer service is so close to my heart, I would never be so rude to a customer! WILL NOT RETURN!

Have used this chippy on many occasions, but recently I feel it has gone down hill. If you bought a fish supper you used to get two fish, which was ideal for my wife and I as one between us was more than enough, however you only get one fish now. It is supposed to be Haddock, but has the texture of Cod, the batter is soggy, and the chips luke warm and greasy. This used to be a great chippy, but you get the feeling the owner has lost interest.

I was in the chip shop getting our dinner as I usually do every Thursday and couldn't help but notice that the boss was being very horrible to his staff and the young girl only was about 15/16 the way he spoke to her and made her so stuff was so horrible and nasty!! Poor girl wouldn't be working there if I was her but our dinner was amazing as it usually is

Ive been in here 3 times and each time it has been excellent. Very reasonable prices and fritters are the best. Fish sizes are great and curry sauce is excellent. So what if they heat it in the microwave its still homemade. The guy who served us and his assistant couldnt have been nicer. The chips are better than bridge of Allan water cafe. My family and I and thats 7 of us love it. Young and old and go out of our way to get our takeaway from there.

We used to eat here - best in town and all that, and having found ourselves back in Stirling thought we woud just pop back. The chips were hot - and not bad. The fish was cooked and was ok - but not in crispy batter, and the sausages were also just ok. Still - the staff were great.

I have to say I was in two minds about visiting the Golden Bird after the last two reviews but as I've just moved to Stirling I thought I'd give it a whirl (always good having a chippie 5min walk from home). I was more than pleasantly surprised - the staff were courteous and friendly, I had a chicken supper with curry sauce which was served within 10minutes (not bad for a fresh piece of chicken).Got home and what a delicious chicken supper with nice and thick curry sauce - fresh, hot, well cooked & tasty.I'd definitely go back

First night in Scotland kids excited to try a fish supper. And maybe a deep fried mars bar !!!. So we looked on trip advisor. As this was showing good reviews we passed other chip shops and drove some distance to find this one. Staff were sullen when we excitably asked what various things covered in batter were even had to wait whilst the man serving us stopped to answer his phone and have a conversation ! We asked for 3 fish suppers a king rib a haggis and a cheeky sausage . £32 was paid and we returned back to our caravan to enjoy the expensive supper . Our sons said the King rib and sausage were alright but the fish and chips and haggis were awful. Fish was a grey colour, dry totally tasteless , chips over cooked in fact several were burnt we threw them all away . . Don't be fooled these good reviews are fake . .

We popped in here on the way back to our hotel as we heard that this was the best chippy in Stirling... Which in hindsight doesn't really say much for the chippys in Stirling. I asked for fish & chips twice and chicken & chips. Had to wait while the chicken was cooked, not a problem.. At least it would be cooked fresh. When the chicken was ready the lady called us over and asked, "What else was to go with the order?""Fish & chips twice" I said, the lady then said, "OK 2 fish & chip suppers, yes?"So not being from the area I just thought that was how they described fish & chips in Scotland, so I said "yes please."When she rang it up on the till and the price came to approx £22, I was a little surprised but we were starving, had been waiting 20 minutes and had a whinging/bored child with us, so we just paid and left, grabbing a menu on the way out to check back at the hotel. When we got back to our room we opened our takeaway and discovered that in each of the 'fish & chip suppers' was 2 x fish and 1 portion of chips, the chicken & chips was normal 1 x chicken & 1 x chips. This would explain why the bill was so much. We then checked the menu and it does say that a 'fish & chip supper' is indeed 2 x fish and 1 portion of chips. But in the shop I only asked for 'fish & chips twice.' Which anywhere else in the country would mean 1 x fish and 1 x chips.. Twice. So we kind of felt that even though we had asked for one thing that the lady behind the counter had tried (successfully) to confuse us, and taken advantage of us obviously not being from the area nor being used to the local terminology of things. Now I know this is not end of the world stuff but it was quite annoying at the time and felt that it was worth letting other folk know what they are exactly ordering when they go into this place and are confronted with the same question of a 'supper' or just normal portion. I would have liked to end on a high note and said that despite all this nonsense that the food was worth it... Unfortunately this review doesn't have a happy ending as the food was pretty poor, very greasy and we ended up leaving most of it and chucking it in the bin. My advice would be to avoid this place, poor food and staff that we feel try and hoodwink you.

When we first moved over here we tried a few chippies near home but none really hit the spot, but then we tried Golden Bird and in my opinion its the best one in Stirling. Never had a bad fish supper, pretty good value, never shy with the chips. Being an east coaster by birth I appreciate being able to get proper chippy brown sauce too, unlike some of the other chippies in the area.Only negative is sometimes you do need to wait on stuff, they don't keep a lot of food ready except maybe at peak times like tea time Saturday and Sunday. The youngsters that work behind the counters are always very friendly, efficient and helpful.

Bought 3 fish suppers and a sausage supper, the fish was of a very poor quality itself, and was not cooked very well at all - the fish had obviously all got stuck together in the vat as every fish had one side well battered and the other side soft and soggy, with one fish completely soggy as if the batter mix had not been anywhere near hot oil. The chips were lukewarm, and the sausage was far too crispy - almost as if it had been refried to get some heat back in it after sitting for too long. Had heard good things and for 6.50 a fish supper expected a much higher standard. Wont be back

Went on a Thursday and found only one guy running the shop and rushing around doing all sorts of things. My wife and I were told 10 mins to cook my wife's fish but I think it took rather longer. Only when the fish was ready to serve was another person brought out to serve. The fish was fine (haddock) but the chips were pale, underdone and generally disappointing.

Being local to Mhor fish I use it regularly and glad it got kept as a fish and chip restaurant and the food hasn't disappointed! Glad too the restaurant is open as always loved sitting in. Only thing thats a little disappointing is they say 12 till 9 7days per week, however that's been a couple times I've came after 12 like 20 minutes when they should be ready to serve, but they haven't other than that very good fish and chip shop and I recommend!
