Excellent food and service from our first trip to the restaurant in Aberdeen, I had the mac and cheese with jerk chicken which was superb , we were in just after opening so the place was quiet but we will be back to see more of the menu and expereince something different in Aberdeens food scene

Lovely and authentic African restaurant in Aberdeen

Excellent food served by very friendly staff. Our food was freshly prepared and served hot. Lovely flavours with the correct level of spices to enhance these flavours without overpowering them. Definitely one to return to.

Our first time here and we will be back. Food was fantastic and staff were excellent. Loved it and I would urge everyone to give it a go.

Some dishes are missing from the menu

Absolutely incredible food and very friendly waiters. The plantain is delicious and the island veggie stew with gungo rice and peas is incredibly lovely and flavourful.

AVOID - Had a family meal 5 July ... literally the worst meal I have had in years: poor service (10 mins + before waiters came back even with all our green cards facing up), some of the meat was decidedly tough. No management visible ... no interest in making customers welcome or checking if things were OK. £300 wasted!!!

Food is fresh, unique recipe yet very tasty! Highly recommended!

Just after 5 pm on a Wednesday so wasn't busy to start with but it wasn't long before it started to get busy. Service was great, the food amazing and the prices reasonable. Definitely going back

Hard working staff and nice. The environment was calm, relaxing with good music. Attended to show off Nigerian food to my Scottish friends but didn't go as expected. The food was overpriced and didn't get the Naija taste. Will have to stick with Tasty T.

Had Tapas 3 for 20. Chicken wings were awesome. Ribs and hamburgers also good but would have eaten a bucket of the wings. Will be returning on my next Aberdeen visit

Wonderful food, although menu could possible be expanded a bit. We had the steak with a sublime sauce, rice and peas and gorgeous fried plantain. The decor was incredibly tasteful, reflective of its African heritage in an extremely modern and fashionable style.

Ordered a range of small items, they came out in good time. The cauliflower was the weakest item, bit chewy, but the stew was absolutely heartwarming. Sea bass was super tasty too. A good spread to have a chat to. The portion overall over three small items wasn't massive, but it was enough to leave you satisfied. A good place for a quality dinner.

The food was great but it was spoiled by the place being very cold.

Short stay in Aberdeen and Gidi Grill brightened my mood. Lovely ambience, Afro beats in the background, attentive staff, fab cocktails (Rum punch!) and delicious meal!! 🤩👌🏾

Came to Gidi Grill for an evening meal for 8 of us and it was superb. The service was friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. Six of us had starters and mains and the other two had mains only. I think everyone liked each dish they got. Meat basket, fish basket, the nachos and of course the Suya all got rave reviews. Will absolutely be back.

We came to this absolutely amazing restaurant while visiting Aberdeen. Delicious food, staff were so attentive, great decor and atmosphere. Jerk sauce was a highlight but all the food was incredible. Mocktail piña colada was also delicious. I wish we lived locally! Bonus was that the chicken and beef is halal

Wonderful ambience, good music too

I went to Gidi Grill last Saturday for lunch, but there were two families with three screaming kids (serious misbehavior - there was nothing mild about this) being seated across from me. I asked to sit in the back but the server said that section was closed. I left and came back on Tuesday and the server tried to seat me right next to another person, even though most of the tables were open as it was almost 2pm. I asked to sit at a 4-person table close by and was told that it was not available. I've never seen a restaurant so fussy about what tables one can be seated at! So off-putting! Determined to try their food, I took another table in the front and stayed for lunch. I had the prawns, snapper and lamb tapas. All three were absolutely delicious, but the snapper was just barely warm. I tried all three and ate from the coldest to the warmest - leaving the barely-dressed salad for last. If the tapas had been served hot, I would have given them five stars - even with them being ridiculously awkward about the seating. There was absolutely no pressure or even a suggestion to leave a tip, which was a welcome change for a restaurant of this calibre. Very nice decor and I enjoyed the music.

Place was lookin’ good. Staff maybe wasn’t really talkative or rude but they weren’t super friendly as well, kinda stiff. Food was ok. Just ok.

Neat place, food is lovely and you can tell it has been well prepared with care. Table service is efficient, friendly and polite. Nice to see a menu that has a selection of traditional food for the restaurant theme.

Staying in Methlick over Christmas & fancied a good meal out, brought the family of 12 to Gidi Grill & it went off 🔥. Food is absolutely amazing 💯, atmosphere is chill 😎 highly recommend to anyone feeling a good burger or steak!!

Very friendly staff and attractive decor - a nice environment to eat in. Food is very tasty, with plenty variety for most people, but there is no cheaper lunch menu.

La atención muy bien, cordial, atentas, cuidando los detalles (podrían ofrecer más bebidas más seguido, en especial si ya se les acabó a los comensales) La comida... la comida increíble. El chef se lleva las palmas. Único, auténtico. Una fiesta de sabores, combinaciones espectaculares que valen cada bocado. Platos abundantes, emplazados delicados. Combinaciones de especias y sabores originales y en su punto único. No veo las horas de volver! Gracias!

Food here is great quality and delicious, but portions have significantly shrunk since my last visit a few months ago unlike their prices 🤔 I also recall more options on the menu before... Still plenty of yummy food to pick from.

I have been twice now and have really enjoyed my experience both times. The chicken fillet with Mac and cheese was amazing! Also the red wine was really nice. The atmosphere was great and so was the music. Would definitely return.

Great place, few tiny issues however food and service top notch!! Wobbly chairs, not fun to sit on for dinner!! Cooking the hake with the skin on, make the skin crispy please otherwise it's just greasy and really not nice to eat. The leek garnish almost had me choking a few times, too stringy and sadly not cooked enough to make it crisp. No need for the end part of the purple onion on the skewer, it's not going to cook enough to be crispy, not pleasant to eat. Staff are great, attentive and very polite. The food, flavours, tastes, spices, smells..... wow!! So many new flavours and tastes tonight, and so very filling as well!!! The food packs a bunch for sure. Plantain..... my new favourite thing.... been googling recipes but I can imagine it will never taste anything like tonight!!

Great restaurant on the high street! Thoroughly enjoyed my meal - I had the chicken fillet and pork belly starter. Staff were friendly and the restaurant had a great vibe! Definitely eat here again!!

I had an incredible dining experience at Gidi Grill .The food was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring we had a wonderful evening. I highly recommend the grilled dishes; they were mouthwatering! The ambiance was cozy and inviting. Overall, a fantastic restaurant that I will definitely visit again.

Really great service here. The staff are attentive and polite. The food is very good and not so unusual as to be a challenge for people unfamiliar with African or Caribbean cuisine. There are burgers and other dishes with a twist. All are beautifully presented without a long wait. The drinks menu is not just the usual fare either. There are Nigerian beers as well as Craft beers. The wine list is pretty extensive. I'd be happy to return and try other dishes to select a favourite. Even the chips were amazing. Pretty good value including drinks.

First time for evening meal Friday 3rd November. Food delicious and service excellent will definitely return.

The service was very slow and food was dry. Great atmosphere but waited more than 1.5hrs for food and steak was too dry.

Went there for a light meal and the service was amazing, food was fresh and the mocktail hit the spot. Ambiance is great and when I couldn’t finish my food they gracefully packed my food in takeaway box. To be honest the staff are and chefs and amazing .. quite happy especially with the prawns 🤭🤭.. thanks little Mo

I discovered Gidi grill by accident. If Abby (hope this is correct spelling) hadn't come to my store and told us about all the delicacies at his restaurant, I would never have visited. But curiosity was stronger. So I took my lovely wife on a date to Gidi Grill. What I found there exceeded all my expectations. The quality of the food, the atmosphere, the Bahamas Mama cocktail are just some of the items for which I cannot find words of admiration. Beef steak - world-class quality. Shrimp? Even better than steak. Fish bask - oh god - there's nothing better in the world. African accents in taste, brilliant service, wonderful atmosphere. It's all in one place. Went as a party of 8 with a booked table. Table was prepared late. When we were seated we were not given food menus. We had to ask the server for this when he came round to ask for our food. When the server was taking our orders, he left in the middle of taking our order three times to speak to people at the door who were otherwise more than happy to wait a minute or two until someone could see to them. Orders were noted incorrectly, despite us even pointing to the menu item. There seemed to be some assumption that as we were mostly white that we would want chips. The server was incredibly surprised when asked for the rice as described on the menu, and no so in a good way. Asked if we wanted prawns with our rice, and only after said "that's £9 extra". I changed my mind on that. Drinks were handed over awkwardly instead of placed on table. An unopened bottle of beer was handed to me almost horizontally and then a bar blade just stuck in my face for me to open it. Could not understand the explanation about the "welcome drink" included as part of the set menu. They refused to provide a beer. Did not provide drink options. The bar staff then came over with a sangria and demanded I take it when I said I didn't want it. One of us was still eating, knife and fork in hand, mouth full and still food on plate, and one of the servers came over to demand to know if we were still eating. Watched awkwardly until he could respond. They charged included meal elements as extras. They almost became confrontational and I had to spell out that the meal item included the rice. When we wanted to split the bill 4 ways, they could only take 3 card payments. Food was otherwise tasty, but expensive for the portion sizes provided.

The meal was so nice, and the service, great. Will visit again.

Worth the three hour round trip drive! First time, but definitely won’t be the last. Good menu selection, lovely cocktails with amazingly good food served by friendly staff. My prawn skewers & jerk chicken were absolutely delicious, rest of the tables pork belly, burger, hake & prawn and Mac & cheese were quickly polished off. The desserts - WoW!! Enjoyed the great background music. One of the best meals we’ve recently eaten. Fantastic restaurant! 10/10.

Had the pork ribs, with the Jollof rice on the side, and got the meat basket with chips. The Jerk and Gidi sauces were delicious!

Amazing food. We took plaintain, sui lamb, bbq chicken, sea bass and jolof rice. Lamb was perfectly cooked, the sauce with the plaintain added to the flavour. The bbq chicken was perfectly cooked as well but the bbq sauce tasted as usual, could have been better. Wanna give a try again!

Genuinely the best restaurant I've been to in Aberdeen. Lived here my whole life and have been all over the world, including to the Caribbean and the food from Gidi Grill was exactly as I remembered it. The food might honestly be a contender for the tastiest in all of Aberdeen. Definitely recommend giving it a go.

honestly one of the best restaurants i’ve been to in Aberdeen. all the dishes we ordered were absolutely amazing, the waiters were nice as well. it is a bit pricey but in my opinion the portion sizes pay that off. would definitely recommend!

Some of the best food we have tasted, fresh seasoned well, you have to try the pork belly it was outstanding my wife and I took a flyer and it didn't dissapoint go try it for yourself

My husband and I went there for lunch today. I was blown away. The food was delicious. So much flavor. The service was fantastic. I highly recommend and will be happy to go back again and again to try different things.

We had such a great time at Gidi Grill. We got a selection of starters, sides and mains to share between the group. Everything was so delicious and tasted so fresh. I particularly loved the sweet fried plantain, the ribs, fish basket and the veg stew. For dessert the Rum cake was UNREAL. The staff were friendly and attentive and the restaurant decor is beautiful. Can't wait to go back!

Lovely restaurant and great african-Caribbean cuisine

The Rasta Pasta main was so delicious. I had the grilled suya with plantains as starters. Really juicy taste. The plantains were not too ripe, just the perfect taste. I would totally recommend. The downside was the outside feel does not do justice to how cool and relaxing the interior is. Loved the warm light interior with the wooden feel and afro paintings. Really unique stuff you wouldn't expect in Aberdeen. I would recommend for someone who wants to have a feel of afro Carribbean vibes.

Loved this place, the moment me and my friend walked in we felt welcomed and comfortable. The restaurant is really classy and the vibes were amazing, from the music to the aesthetics. Service was great and our waitress was so lovely, she gave us recommendations of popular foods and had 10/10 customer service. The food itself was gorgeous, so full of flavour and you could tell it was all cooked in the kitchen from scratch. 100% coming again and 100% recommend! 😊

Very pleasant atmosphere. The food was on point, we enjoyed all the dishes we ordered but the service could do with some improvements. We had 3 staff serving our table, leaving us with a missed drinks order. We will definitely try it again next time we are in Aberdeen.

When I'm put into a situation where I was discriminate against, the food, services and atmosphere were irrelevant. The fact that I dined here, to me ; was a charitable act on my part.

Friends booked a table here for us all, I'd definitely revisit. Started with a refreshing pina colada and prawn starters, then ribs and hotdogs. All food was out of this world, bursting with flavour. Had a great atmosphere as soon as you walked in with great music and smells from the kitchen. Staff were knowledgeable about food choice and happy to help. Great place to dine.

I was here with my family last night. I loved the atmosphere, and I felt this was bringing something new and authentic to the Scottish culinary world. The staff were very attentive. I had the jerk chicken and a rum based desert, both of which were magnificent. I think Edinburgh needs one of these restaurants!

Cracking meal on Saturday, 4 of us all delighted with what we received. Friendly greeting and a little direction with the menu was great. Calamari starter was perfectly cooked and very light. 4 mains all well received, had the gidi burger myself which was very good. Reasonably priced for a main street eatery, second visit and will return again. Knocked a star off service purely as we had to ask for items twice on 2 occasions, apart from that service was excellent.

I'd been to the restaurant in Dundee and really liked it and it's Aberdeen version didn't disappoint. Lots of choice, we had hotdogs and a hamburger this time with a side of calamari which were all delicious. If you haven't been it's definitely worth a try

The lamb suya was so lovely I had it twice! Very surprised to find this beautiful restaurant in Aberdeen with a taste of west African and the Caribbean! The young man that serviced us was amazing! This place is a must visit

Beautiful place to dine the meal was delicious; although I thought the stake was too pricey considering the cut/size. Other than that amazing and friendly staffs, neat atmosphere with good music in the background.

Me and my girlfriend came to Aberdeen to watch the mighty Jam Tarts play aberdeen (sadly took an L). However went out to drown our sorrows and have a few drinks. Decided we needed to get some food to line our stomach and couldn’t be bothered trawling the streets of the Deen looking for someplace so we just went into the first place we found and we will for sure be coming back next time we’re up north. Food was unreal, I got a burger and it probably one of the best I’d had and my girlfriend got jerk chicken which slapped. Service was quick and since we wanted to paint the town red quickly it was ideal as we were in and out within in hour. Tunes were good and made me do a little jiggle in my seat. Finally, staff were super nice and were conversing with all the customers and when people were leaving were making an effort to say goodbye etc. 10/10 would come back. Thanks for a good experience and even better food.

The food was delicious and the surroundings/decor fun. However, we had a really long wait of 90 mins for our food. That was disappointing.

I am not sure I would recommend this place as we went on Valentine's day and it was a complete disaster. The food was absolutely devine but the service left much to be desired. We got to the restaurant on time, after having reserved a table more than a week before and we ended up waiting over 20 minutes at the door with other people who had a reservation at the same time. For what I was able to understand, the staff had given all the reserved tables to walk-ins and they no longer knew how to manage the situation. After having been shown our table the situation got even worse. We waited another half an hour just to get the menus and when we finally succeeded in ordering our drinks, the order never made it to the bar (we were sitting in front of it and we could see the barman and a waitress engaged in what I can only assume was a rather interesting conversation as they seemed to have a very good time despite the hungry customers). We called the waitress over to remind her about our drinks and to ask if she could take our food order. After telling us that we had to make sure we ordered everything at once as the kitchen was closing (which was shocking considering that our reservation was originally at 8:30), she started being very nice. We waited another half an hour (it was now 10pm) and the food finally arrived. We only had to ask for ketchup twice before it made it to our table but, considering we had already waited an hour and a half, the speed exceeded our expectations. I think the most disappointing part of the night is that it did not seem to matter whether you had a reservation or not as just before 9pm a women entered the restaurant, skipped the queue and despite not having a reservation was the first person to be served (We then discovered that she was a friend of our waitress as they hugged before she left). When the queue realised what was happening they started complaining which triggered a traumatising series of events: one waitress went histerical as she couldn't handle the complaints and started shouting at everyone saying that they had to just wait their turn (which wasn't respected), a second waitress lied explaining that the customer did indeed have a reservation when we had all seen her asking for one and she said she didn't (she also tried to say that the customer had already been in asking for a table which made no sense considering the lack of reservation and the fact that the waitress did not initially recognise the customer) and I got accidentally punched in the back by a customer who, in the attempt to convey his anger, started swinging his arms violently. If one ignores the complete lack of service, the possible violent customers and the extremely long waits then this restaurant is definitely a place to try. The food was very tasty even though its flavour might have been improved by the fact that we were starving.

Awesome food but the staff's attention was quite poor. We had a booking for 8.30pm and didn't get seated until 9:10pm. People were jumping the queue and being seated before us. We weren't given any food menus when seated and no one came to take our drinks order for another half hour, so we had to call someone to come to our table to get orders. We then ordered our drinks and they forgot to make them, so another half hour wen't by and we didn't even have a drink, we had to remind them again. The red velvet mocktail we ordered was the smallest glass of overpriced juice we've ever had, £5 for 15cl of juice! The other drinks were pretty good, almost pint size pina colada. The food arrived 1.30h after being seated, and it was amazing, the nachos are the best I've ever had, the meat basket was reallt good too. But again, we had to ask for extra ketchup twice, as the staff kept forgetting, and again, we had to ask for water twice. So on the food side, 5 stars, on the staff side, 1 star. It was a very busy night, but if you keep people waiting for an hour just for drinks, and 1:30 for food, the least you would expect is a complementary snak to keep you going, or at least some water when you get seated... OR A DISCOUNT AT THE END! I do recomend this place, but if it looks busy, don't bother going in.
