Georgs's Fish and Souvlaki Bar in Redbridge

I have had a few things off the menu and I have enjoyed everything I've tried. I'm not a huge lover of chicken on the bone but the chicken wings are amazing and are now one of my favourite orders. Friendly staff. Tasty food. Loads of options.

Need to update their closing hours. Just made a wasted journey. Won’t be doing that again.

I ordered a takeaway from George’s and was absolutely blown away! From start to finish, I had a few friends over so I decided to order 2 Pork sheftalia, 2 chicken souvla and a few dips. Ordering was quick and my food arrived in good time. It was freshly cooked and still very warm once I dished it up at home. The quality of the food exceeded my expectations. The chicken souvla were tender, juicy, and packed with authentic Greek flavors. The tzatziki sauce was fresh and creamy, the sheftalia was just how I was served it in Cyprus (delicious) and the pita bread was soft and warm. Everything was clearly made with care and attention to detail. George and the staff took the time to talk to us. There was a buzzy feel about the place. The portions were generous, and the pricing was more than fair for the amount and quality of food I received. I spotted a customer ordering a chicken gyros chips, greek salad and dips. They looked scrumptious and will definitely be ordering them next time If you're looking for an authentic Greek meal to enjoy at home, George’s fish and souvlaki is hands-down the best takeaway I've had. I've ordered from this restaurant many times because their food is really tasty. Tonight, though, there was so much fat and gristle in the meat that I couldn't eat. Even the chips were not the golden, crispy chips they usually are. One off I hope.

Delivery very good. But I can't say the same for the food. Quality has reduced this last year or so. The fish is of poor quality compared to what it was. George's would no longer win the prize for best chips. They are now basic frozen supermarket chips..........nasty. The batter around the fish is no longer crisp and light. I have been using George's for years but I shan't any longer. I am not willing to pay circa £18 plus tip to courier for this standard. My theory is that George's has changed hands in the last year and is trading on its past reputation that us locals came to expect. Bye bye

It's very difficult to find good quality fish and chips. I thought I'd give these guys a try. Ordered two large fish and chips and some batter sausages. The quality of the food was excellent. It was cooked perfectly and on time for my collection. George and Joe were extremely courteous and friendly. The whole family commented on how all the elements of our order were of superior quality to other places we have tried. If you want a really good fish dinner these guys knock it out of the park! Can't wait to go back again.

Actually devastated! Ordered at 6pm, son arrived at 6.10pm to collect. Was told it was cash only so he nipped away and came back. He hadn't came back for ages so I nipped in at 6.35pm to see him standing infront of the till and hadn't been asked for his order yet. He was holding a £10 note and hadn't been asked/served. I left with my meal at 6.40pm after being charged full price for an order over 30 minutes later than when I was advised I'd have it. Not even an offer of money off, proper apology or even just a free mixture for the child who stood for over 30 minutes for an order i was tild would be ready at 6.10pm. We came all the way from CCowdenbeathfpr our order and I've been coming since I was my sons age. The food was fantastic as ever just gutted with the poor service received....

Great place, food is amazing and at brilliant quality. Staff are very friendly as well.

Several cold items and portions were small. There was barely any lamb in the wrap, with a sliver of bone left on one of the pieces and similarly, the amount of halloumi in the box meal was very disappointing. The scampi was a rip off at £10 and worse quality than what you can buy frozen from the supermarket.

The single worst chips I’ve ever had. Undercooked and tasted like meat and oil from 1934. Place needs a good clean too. Bloke was miserable. Maybe I got them on a bad day.

Food has not arrived?! What is going on?

I am vegetarian and ordered a halloumi box meal /. I was expecting charcoaled grilled halloumi, fresh Greek salad, Tzanziki and chips. I received a poor portion of sloppy partially cooked, halloumi, with toasted pitta and chips, without salad and Tzanziki. On balance, chips were fresh and crisp. Very disappointing and poor value for £12.50.

The food is lovely tasting. I ordered here after having not been since pre covid times where i have never had a bad word to say, but i cannot believe how small the portion is now. 15.50 for a mixed kebab, where is the rest of it? And the chips with oregano are such a tiny portion with a tiny bit of salad in the ebab. It honestly felt empty. As a fellow cypriot, very dissapointed in what i always enjoyed and remembered from here

Went there today sat outside, ordered the shaftalia and pork Slovakia. Really tasty food and service was great. George the owner even came out side to talk to us. Lovely people great food what more could you want

Food was tasty but over priced and small portions. £11 for regular cod but no chips. I would not order from here again and I would not recommend to others.

There were too many drops before mine. As a result it was lukewarm. not good enough

Fish was beautiful. Chips were not the usual high standard, a bit dry and firm.

Not as good as previous orders. I'm pretty sure that the usual chef is on his holidays. The stand in is not bad but not as expert. This happened last year. I just wish I knew when our guy was gonna be away !! Don't let this order put you off, still miles better than all the other local chippies.

Best fish and chips in South Woodford

I got chips for myself and my friend to cure the blues from George's yesterday and they were perfect. I want to eat them every day. But don't for obvious reasons..

Ordered a takeaway birthday meal from here as we was isolating with covid a frien told us about the place she used to go there really wish we hadn't as the kebab meat was dry and the chips looked and tasted like lunch time leftovers the salad was not fresh either the tomatoes consisted of the ends only and a couple of bits of onion a friend said definatly warm ups posted on their facebook messenger and never got a reply never again will we use this place it wasent cheap either

The food is good at George's, the menu was better pre-covid but the Greece options are still pretty good. The waiting staff are excellent. I haven't eaten in here for a while, but last time I was in there, one of the staff told us that the owner sits at home watching them and the customers via the many video cameras that you can see around the back room. Off-putting when you are eating your food. Apart from that its good.

The quality of food was very bad. When you pay money, you expect food you enjoy to eat. Will not order again.

I’ve ordered from here before and never had an issue but this time My order of fried haddock didn’t come with chips. I literally just received the fried haddock and the extra item (battered sausage) I had ordered.

I have never been more dissatisfied in my life. I didn’t appreciate the aggressive way the cashier was spoken to. It was rude and inappropriate. My fish and chips were cold and had no flavour. It was as though they were cooked from the day before. The batter wasn’t even set properly. What a waste of £14 - never again!!

Honestly food was amazing, first time visiting a few days ago i was served by two blonde girls who were absolutely lovely and so chatty they made my food quick and with care they were working very hard however i was shocked when the cook started shouting at the two counterstaff he was demanding things and pushing past them while shouting and screaming, the girls looked so stressed bless them my food was amazing though and the other staff were great! but please sort out your chef absolutely disgusting

I opted for no salad but it was put in anyway so I had to pick it out which was annoying also the bread was not very fresh-I have had better from here.

No delivery of food order placed via Just Eat. When I spoke to the restaurant they said they are not responsible for the drivers who are sent by Just Eat. When I asked them for further assistance to help with contacting Just Eat I can hear other staff person laughing saying "what's his problem" so seemingly not having a paid delivery of food is not an issue as per the staff of this restaurant. Please avoid and find alternative

Visited this evening with friends I haven't been here since before the pandemic. We sat in the restaurant. The staff were very friendly. We all ordered haddock and chips. I wanted plaice, but it's no longer an option on the menu. Food was served quickly but was pipping hot. When we came to pay the bill I was told the machine wasn't working. It would have been nice to have been told this when we arrived so I could have got cash out before hand.

Not the drinks I ordered which were also larger than the ones I received. The drinks offer is one of the reasons I order from them but this has happened before

Always order from here. Do beautiful grilled fish, no batter. Tastes gorgeous. Obligatory chips are a must. And I love their grilled vegetables.

Ignore the bad feedback on here!! Easily the best chippy in the E11/Woodford area. Fantastic Fish n Chips / fries Great mushy peas and curry dip too. Fish tasted fresh and was grilled in a really nice way. Chips were cooked just right. Glad we've finally found a decent chippy in the area.

Cat food. Terrible expe as I threw the entire order to the garbage bin. The fries were fish smelly and soaked in frying oil. The "souvlakis" arrived with uncooked ingredients. Some of the ingredients were not mentioned in the menu so we couldn't eat because of food intolerances. I wouldn't have eaten that anyway because of the huge chunks of uncooked onions and peppers.

Really tasty food at an excellent price with friendly helpful staff. It was the first time I had been there but will definitely be going back!

Unfortunately the food was tasteless, the Gyros had no tzanziki, smelled bad and had normal chip shop fat chips in the wrap; not the small oregano fries you would expect in a greek gyro so this ruined the authenticity and quality of the item ordered. Also the extra tub of Tzanziki that i ordered also was tasteless and the halloumi cheese order was undercooked with no colour and tasted weird, even after i had to re-grill myself. Overall, i was not satisfied with the quality or experience

Really lovely family run business was so kind to me when I ordered my fish and chips. It’s been running for years this place since I was in school! I just read an unnecessary nasty review. If it wasn’t nice then why have they been running for so many years? I think this is probably the longest running restaurant in South Woodford! Keep up the good work and thank you for my lovely fish and chips :)

Very poor fish n chips, The place needs a deep clean, chips had been seating around and re-cooked in old oil, fish was not nice. what a shame i was so looking forward to a good meal. Not sure if the owner is aware if their wish to have repeated customers the standards need to improve.

Perfect crispy batter on Cod and perfect home made style chips, Top notch all round. We looked through the menu and were very happy to some traditional Cypriot pork souvlaki..

Very disappointing. Reserved a table for Fish and chips with drinks via Groupon 15/12/21. When we got there we were asked to sit outside in the cold or next to where they were frying their fish and chips. When asked if we can sit inside at a proper table we were told that there was some problem and due to that we had no choice otherwise we can have take away. We decided to have take away. I must say the Fish was lovely but we had the scraps of chips (last bits). They should have informed us prior to us going there or cancel it. Although they apologise but it was very disappointing for us as we wanted to eat there. Would not recommend due to this reason and would not give any stars but had no options for that

Take a look at the portion size! I can’t believe that this was the portion size for a Naked souvlaki at £8.95. Talk about stingy. I emailed the business to ask them if this was the standard portion but am still waiting for a response.

I decided to go to George’s tonight with my friend and we ordered the souvlaki’s and they were astonishing!! Also the service was amazing, a blonde girl served me and she was lovely. Would recommend and would come again!
