Delicious food and always a warm welcome.

Unfortunately I can't give a lower rating than 1 Star.. Booked in as a party of 16 and were met at the door by who we discovered to be the chef, in the face of a pensioner complaining we were late and the pre-ordered food was already cooked! Now, first of all - why on EARTH would a restaurant cook the food before the party arrives.. Who goes for food and immediately sits and eats?! There was no time to talk, catch up with family and settle in before the food was on the table. As for the food.. Well.. The carbonara had what seemed to be pieces of sandwich ham and was overall, unedible. The lasagne was processed mush, the hunters chicken was more like a solid loaf or house brick and the salad consisted of a big lettuce leaf (whole), some onion, cucumber and tomato. On top of all this, the food was cold! The lager was poor - at least the cans of coke were nice! The pub atmosphere was more akin to a mortuary! I will say however that the waiting staff seemed lovely! Just an absolute shame to ruin a 21st Birthday party. Will certainly never be returning.

The best pub food I've ever had and my wife said the same. The pub was massive easily fitting over 100 people. The owners have been there for 47 years and they know how to cook a lovely meal, 3 drinks , 2 sides and 2 mains 34£. A must go and try for yourselves.

A quiet bar with friendly staff and a nice atmosphere outside of town. Though we didn't eat there, they have a good selection on the menu. Definitely worth checking out.

Booked my Dad’s 70th birthday meal (upon recommendation and good reviews). I’m not from the area but I heard about the old fashioned ambience and music and my Dad’s family is local to the area. Arrived on a quiet Tuesday night with plenty of parking. Outside looks a bit bland but the inside more than made up. Great old fashioned decor and well maintained. The owners are very friendly and you can tell they treat it with great care. We ate in the restaurant area and the food was of good quantity and very reasonably priced. My family thoroughly enjoyed the evening and I had a pleasant chat with the owners. Would come back again.

Visited last week, Bank Holiday Monday, with my daughter and grandson who was treating us to lunch. We had to ring to say we would be late as traffic was bad but they said that was no problem. We received a lovely welcome from the owner and chef and ordered coffees which were served by his wife. I chose beef bourgignon, my daughter a chicken meal and grandson a sizzling steak. We also chose Savoy chips which the owner laughingly said were named after the Savoy hotel in London and which turned out to be so delicious we practically ate all of the large dish of them which unfortunately meant we couldn't manage a dessert as well! We all enjoyed our meals and although the pub was quiet that meant the owners could spend a bit of time chatting to us. We also went here last Mother's Day after we were let down by a double booking elsewhere and had a really lovely Sunday roast. Although I usually read reviews I don't let them dictate whether I go somewhere or not I prefer to make up my own mind so based on my experiences here I have no hesitation in recommending this pub for a Sunday roast or a week day lunch as I found the food and owners delightful.

Food was very good, only thing I'll advise stop using frozen chips , got to be real chips and good selection of ales 🍺

We went on a Monday night when it was quiet. Just us and one other big table. Imo the landlady was very nice and attentive, offered us some playing cards as there was just the two of us, recommended items in the menu / sauces and checked on us throughout. At the end we were the only 2 left and weren't at all made to feel like we had to leave, in fact the opposite. The landlord was nice and chatty too when he came out of the kitchen. The food prices were very reasonable, £10 for fish and chips and £2 for a good portion of onion rings and the portions and taste were great, the fish was like a baby whale! The decor and music was nice too. Overall it was one of the more pleasant restaurants I've been to, It was my first time in Wales and if I come back I'll definitely visit again!

I've been going to here for 19 years and I've always felt welcome. The food and hospitality are top tier every single time!

Food here was absolutely amazing it was pipping hot. I had the lasagne and hubby had the sirloin steak was cooked perfectly. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend this the gadlys Arms ❤️

£30 odd including a drink each, the roast potatoes were so reheated no potatoe left inside! The cabbage was cold, no flavour. Usually a lovely dinner, very dissapointed 😞

Myself and 2 friends have become regulars before we go to see a show in Aberdare, and we love it there . We recommend the duck. It's fabulous.

Not too bad considering, improvement on the past but could still be better. Variety not so great, pretty much the same as any menu anywhere - limited.

Been going to the gadlys arms off & on for over 30 years, mainly for Sunday lunch but have been for bar meals on numerous occasions & I've never been disappointed. Quality quality evertime. Don't listen to reviews try it yourself & then judge. I know you will be pleasantly surprised.

Prawn cocktail to start, ribeye steak for main, quality thick steak cooked to perfection, homemade onion rings and much more.... Food was outstanding, we had a fabulous night and felt truly welcomed and looked after by the owners, great value for money, returning very soon!

Proper traditional pub atmosphere with excellent service and good food, the prices are reasonable.

Lovely food and plenty of it. The lunchtime menu is great and the late breakfast really hit the spot. Everyone is so friendly there and it feels like a cozy snug place.

Rude landlady, a cook who couldn't! Burnt rock hard chips, undercooked fish, can't fault the tinned mushy peas though. Went to Tesco for dessert.

First of all I got sausage and mash with GRAVY and peas and when I got It I was going to ask where my sausages are but I realised they where buried under 2 pounds of gravy which didn’t taste that good and they asked ‘ Do you want some more gravy?’ I looked at my plate and back at her and said ‘ No thanks’ anyway my family member got cod with extra plastic on it. So we bought some garlic bread but it came with no garlic and the chips were burnt. At the end we told the manager about the plastic and all they said was’ we are so sorry the (only) cook didn’t have his glasses on’ so he didn’t see the burnt chips, garlic bread with no garlic, how much gravy he put on and to top it off he didn’t see the plastic and most importantly it was my aunts birthday. I would love to do a 0.1 star review but you can’t do that

Went to gadlys arms and usually really good but today was terrible got served burned cheesy garlic bread me and my partner spinach veg lasagna was nice but pasta was bit over done the peas were really cold my partner BBQ ribs were fatty more than meat and my partner main was burned but good service sometimes off outside we sat and there were wasps they didn't say anything while we had wasps near our food my partner nearly swallowed one the salad such a bad taste mushie cucumber was brown

We were attending an athletic meet in Aberdare and googled this pub. We arrived and were seated. It was a Sunday so main menu was limited. I had the lamb dinner which was really good. My wife has the gammon which was swimming in grease and my daughter had chicken nuggets. The nuggets were hard and were replaced with only a dish full of hard chips between both meals. £27 and most of the food was sent back. Lovely pub and great atmosphere but food could be better.

Okay food and good service. Good choice of menu but found food was slightly overcooked. Good size portions and impressive bar choice but chips were also overcooked and became inedible after a bit. Some nice deserts on the board and a good specials board but thru need to update it when they run out of a meal option (especially since its written with chalk)! Nice setting for a meal.

Last time I visited was for a funeral unfortunately. However, the food was done to perfection and could not ask anything more really. The pub itself is clean and well presented. The landlord and landlady have had this place for a long time and I think they have built it up to a good standard. So many places decline and die off. I am glad this pub has not done that.

20 of us booked tonight, service was great nothing too much trouble , and we all sent back empty plates even though they were massive portions , would recommend and will be returning x

Would not even give this hole a 1 star. A group of 12 of us went for a birthday. Was told they couldnt cater for more than 12 as it was so "busy" . But we were the only ones there. My niece had bbq ribs and wigletts. Absolutely smothered in bbq sauce to disguise the lumps of fat underneath. It was totally disgusting. She took it back to say she couldnt eat it only ti be told" well you will have to pay for it" I had chicken curry. It came and looked really appetizing . then there was a strong smell of vinegar. I cut a piece of chicken up and ate it. Very dry and no nice. I smelt the chicken and the only way i can describe the smell was stale urine!!!! I took it back and the landlady said "oh for god sake. What now" explained that the chicken was off. I was called a liar. To this point the so called chef came out! Started shouting and being totally out of order. Made me feel like i was in the wrong. I went back to the table and sat down. Could not believe what i had been told. Then both the landlady and cheg came and wanted to know how everyone elses food was. Out of 12 meals. Only 2 could actually say that thrirs was ok. If you are thinking of going here i would avoid!!!! E.H.O have been contactef reguarding this matter. Save yourself a journey and go else where. We will definitely not be returning. We have family gatherings there 3 times a year. Not any more. Avoid by all costs!!@@

Will visit here again for sure. Lunch after long walk. Less than £8 for the biggest fish & chips ever had. Eclectic choice of seating. I sat in garden under a huge cover. Very confortable lunch

AVOID AT ALL COST!!! Honestly I’ve just had the absolute worst eating experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant!!! It’s my mother’s birthday and I decided to take her for a meal as she’s been very ill for the last few weeks and I wanted to get her out, and we thought we’d try the gadlys as we hadn’t been there for years!!! When we first arrived the landlady was welcoming, but my mother didn’t like The BBQ ribs she had as a starter, they were terrible, all you could taste was fat and oil and when my mother told the landlady she didn’t like them our service completely changed, she said to my mother “well your the first one to not like them” very rudely and walked away, my mother wasn’t trying to be awkward or anything but they really were inedible, I tried a little bit and it was like a lump of fat on a bone. But from that point on we were made to feel completely unwelcome, then the male owner came from the kitchen with the woman landlady and we overheard him talking about us and what he said completely floored us, he said “well if she doesn’t like it, she can go somewhere else” I’m sorry but that is completely unexceptable!!! They didnt even come to our table during our main to see if everything was ok and even though we wanted something else we didn’t ask because we felt we couldn’t anymore!!! I ordered deep fried chicken for starters expecting it to be like a kfc chicken but when it came it was just chicken strips in breadcrumbs, something you could get from Iceland, then fish and chips for main, the fish was bland and the batter oily, the chips were hard, my grandmother had pate for starters which she really enjoyed actually and steak and ale pie for mains which the pastry lid was completely burnt, it’s really disgraceful that they felt it was ok to even bring that from the kitchen, but again we felt we couldn’t say we weren’t happy about it because of how they had reacted to my mother saying it about the starter!!! We felt so unwelcome by that point that We got 2 desserts to go because we couldn’t wait to get out of there, the chocolate fudge cake and apple tart, they were ok but in all honestly I’ve had better from Asda, Also we had my 6 year old brother with us and when the landlady came to our table to clear the plates he tried to speak to her about ice-cream and she didn’t even answer him that’s how completely ignorant she was!!! Also the deco is completely horrible and the really old fashioned music they play over and over in there was really depressing, boring and loud, and all the landlord and landlady did was argue with each other!!! But everything aside, the bad food, the horrible deco, and depressing music, it was the disgusting service and the horrible landlady and landlord that will make it so that they will never never have our business again!!!

Excellent service and good pub fair with a good selection of fish dishes too. We are always warmly welcomed and treated well. There is plenty of food - I like my food but there is no way I can eat three courses! Not sure about the experiences of others but it doesn't reflect our experiences. A family member travels from Swansea regularly to eat there because she enjoys it. Keep doing what your doing Pat and the rest if the team - it works for us!
