I'm from the north east and I take pride in my COD but this fish was served as COD (with skin on one side) which I immediately knew was haddock was over priced. Chips weren't proper chippy chips and dry as a desert overall I would give this chippy a rating of 3 coz it's shyte don't waste ya money go to the kebab shop a few doors down and get yaself a mixed kebab their chilli sauce is banging! UTFB!!

Avoid avoid this must be the worst chip shop in Colchester brought sausage and chip today sausage was cold chips were nasty had to throw them away please avoid

Delivery driver was a legend nice one and the food was still hot

So i thought i would treat myself to a sausage and chips at this chippy .. what u got was dry chips mostly scraggly hard ends and a sausage that has seen better days and to top it of it cost £6.59 . What for one potato and a sausage what a joke wont be going there again what a rip off but will say the young girl serving was polite

What's happened to my fav chip shop,? yucky leathery battered (£2.99) sausage and omg £10 for two sausage and portion of chips £4.00 and no drink. Kids meals £6.00. Gutted though as have to find a new favourite or go.back to Mcds or Try Dr Chippy from now on

I waited for close to 2 hours for my delivery

Fish n Chickn have always been acceptable. However this time was dreadful. The fish was a large cod but very thin and overcooked, so dry and tasteless. The chips had many small bits. The meal was also only barely warm. What went wrong?

Over priced oily slimy soggy chips. £3 for mushy peas that were watery and not sure there was any peas in it. A tesco meal deal would of been a better choice. Fortunately there's a tesco next door.

Chips tasted of and smelt of chicken obviously cooked in same oil as chicken not very nice with fish 😒

Food good as always, delivery time terrible, initially was half hour, ended up being 90 mins.

Onions rings are HUGE! Chicken has a great flavour and the online ordering system is convenient. Friendly staff and good food. Highly recommend 👍

My order started off with 7:15:7:30 then went to 7;45 7;50 then 8:01 and turned up then was just warm and kids had to wait while I warmed it which then wasn’t to nice ,

Brilliant! Chicken was delicious, chips were all properly cooked, not brown or overly cooked like they can be at some places and the home made onion Rings topped off a very nice treat meal. Would 100% Recommend

Fish was absolutely fantastic!

Chips so squashed when wrapped then we’re just a mush. Saveloy tasted awful and was soft. Given 2 stars as the fish was cooked well, otherwise would have been a 1

Ordered large portions of chips which cost me nearly £10 and when I got the food home there was hardly anything inside.

Had chips and cheese burger delivered this evening, burger was poorly made falling apart and cold a few chips I had were Luke warm.. First and last order to this place 🙁🙁

Used to be a great fish and chip shop but tonight's dinner was far from good. A large cod was really only a small, was dry, luke warm and had not much fish in the batter. The mushy peas had an unpleasant bitter aftertaste and could not be eaten. V expensive for what I got

The driver said sorry for the wait but I had problems with the car … the food was cold .. who wants to eat cold chips .. seriously for £30 I wished I had got it myself

Efficient service and good food

Just Eat's 'estimated' delivery time was a complete waste of time, as it was constantly being put back. What's the point of an estimate that is continually changing? We eventually received our food 30+ minutes after the initial latest delivery time 'estimate'. The food was not hot enough for our liking but we ate it as we were very hungry by then

I would like to write a good review but unfortunately they left out one of the meals

A place of child hood nostalgia, its always great to treat yourself on a Friday. However the staff seem to be getting younger and with this comes ignorance and lack of service. Not to mention hygiene issues!! Watching a member off staff remove a hot dish from the warmer to then go out the back which is clearly visible to the public to them start mopping the floor and squeezing the bucket as they spilt oil on their journey out back, to then only return to the front to serve our food!!! When the disgusting lack of hygiene was mentioned it was greeted with loud exaggerated Huff's of and dismissive body language.

Haven’t ordered from St John’s for a while - nothing wrong with the food but Just Eat claimed to be “at the restaurant” for an hour. Placed order at 16:55ish for ASAP as was driving home with my toddler, meal didn’t arrive until almost 2 hours after confirmation and the estimated delivery time just kept re-adjusting. Rang St John’s who confirmed the order had been ready for a while and that the courier wasn’t there, despite the app saying otherwise. Recommended I request a refund - shame on you

Easy to order and kept up to date with delivery

Ordered battered sausage and received plain sausage. Even though informed of delays, disappointed that we had to wait so long for delivery.

Ordered a LARGE chips and Curry sauce. Firstly shocked at £7odd for those 2 things. Then to see the size of the portion. Absolute joke! Will not be returning.

2nd time I have ordered from here now and both times had lovely food , the burgers are so big and juicy perfectly cooked!

Fabulous service. Food piping hot and chips lovely, big and freshly cooked. Courteous driver, and friendly. Thoroughly ejoyed meal.

First time ordering and food was OK. Chips were a but undercooked and fish was a bit greasy but tasty. Packing both fish on top of each other for delivery resulted in a soggy batter.

This place is yet to disappoint. Each time I've been there, everything is on point, cooked freshly, well wrapped, steaming hot and very tasty. The fish is ALWAYS cooked just right and super flaky and the batter is perfectly light and crispy. Keep up the good work guys!!

£4.99 Hake & Chips is to die for 👌🏼

Normally very high quality but lacking today. The batter for the fish was soggy and chips were rather soft without any crisp.

Chips tasted off, no salt and vinegar as requested. Pie that hard I could have put it under the wheels of my truck and it wouldn't have rolled away. Peas nice. Ordered 2 cans of coke only got one! Needless to say the meal went in the bin will not be ordering from here again

The chips were nice. But I was shocked when I ordered a large chips, paid £4.45, and opened them up at home to find I had literally a large handful. Small portion sizes, beware.

Not had fish n chips in a while so was looking forward to a treat. But Should of gone elsewhere. The food is not like it used to be here , we had dry tasteless chips, burnt pie and after taking a bite of the battered sausage realised it was still pink inside! No wonder no one else was in there at tea-time!

Ordered a large portion of chips but, received a small. Other than that, the food was lovely.

Used to be a very good chip shop, last night's experiance has put me off going there again. I ordered jumbo sausage in batter and chips, bur i think they had 'jedward' serving and endered up with a 'very' small portion of chips(which tasted awful) and a rather anemic sausuage in hardly any batter. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY IN THIS OUTLET.

Arrived colder than previous times l have ordered considering l live quite near was surprised it took longer and was not piping hot.

Really disappointed :( delivery was very late so food was luke warm. Had rung twice prior to this to find out where our food was. Hubby had to spit a large amount of fish out as was just full of bones. No point ringing as would have to, no doubt, wait an awful long time for a replacement. This was a special treat as we had some money spare from pay day and at £35 it isn’t cheap so really gutted & feel very let down :(

Went there tonight and they offer half chicken and chips £4.99 on a Wednesday but tonight there was NO Chickens at all. So had haddock and chips and sausage in batter and chips. When I got home the chips where so bad they where rotten some where hard as well and the chips with the sausage in batter only 10 chips could be eaten What a waste of money the 4 lads that where there had NO customer service skills they where just talking and no care for service This was my local chippy but not anymore I will go else where Manager really needs to take control and get the lads more trained on customer service I will now let my friends and family know and tell them to go else where

To start was a very good chippy but last couple of experiences have been upsetting by not listening to what customer wants by getting order wrong and no care for customer service, hope it goes right for next customer because I am not doing anymore
