Enjoyed another lovely meal here at Finnegans Fish Bar in Porthcawl. What the 3 of us had: Delicious Cod (in a "thin" batter) with Chips, Cod, Chips & Mushy Peas & Sausage & Chips. What we like about Finnegans: Delicious food: lovely fresh fish & "proper" thick-cut chips. Lovely clean premises Friendly staff working hard to keep everything immaculate. Unlimited Chips (if you're extra hungry - although we've never had room enough to take up the challenge!). All made to order, so super-fresh. Recommended. Anything else we like about Finnegans that we'd recommend?: They do a discounted meal rate (with unlimited chips & cups of tea) after 3pm.

We find it so hard to find good fish and chips around Cardiff and will often travel miles to get a good quality meal. This place is excellent, large portions with unlimited chips if you want them and light crispy batter wrapped around freshly cooked fish. The staff were all very friendly and the meal reasonably priced. we will definitely return

Visited recently, chips were white and clearly not cooked through.. Fish was soggy.. Curry sauce was nice... Very expensive for poor food.. The tall blonde lady is not very friendly and looks totally miserable, she could do with learning about customer service.. Won't be going back.

Over hyped after seeing a review on tic toc, totally over hyped and over priced, small cod soggy chips £30 with a free drink! Never again

Usually we go to Beales, it's a staple of good fish and chips in Portcawl. Family have been to Finnegans previously, I have not. Very quiet Wednesday afternoon, staff are very friendly, the place; very clean, bright airy. The food was nice, hot and freshly made. The unlimited chips option intrigued my son who has the appetite of an entire rugby squad, he also found the free WiFi password funny. His chicken bites hit the mark, my father had cod and was unusually satisfied. My chicken curry, half and half of course, rice perfect, chips lovely, curry sauce (mild but more a medium) was perfect. However, a chicken curry should really have more chicken in it, five pieces is a little light for a "chicken curry". But that is literally the one and only thing I can fault. Staff clean tables promptly, toilets on site, music, licenced and seating for large groups. Ah, the only other thing, seats a tad uncomfortable after a while, so, eat quickly. But overall, enjoyable meal and a very nice place to eat.

An excellent fish & chip bar. We ate in - the food was brilliant, so freshly cooked. We couldn’t manage anymore but they offered ‘unlimited chips!’ There was home made tartare sauce and you could buy a mini bottle of wine to have with your dinner. We visited this restaurant recently and were unhappy with the quality of the whitebait meal which we ordered. In our opinion, this fish had not been prepared and displayed a strong unnatural odour. We asked for a replacement meal and was told that there is nothing wrong with the whiteboard and we could not have a replacement meal just because we did not like the taste! We then had to pay extra to replace this with a cod order. In my opinion this is against the Consumer Rights Act 2015 This Act States; 'As soon as you realise that your food is not up to standard, you should complain to a member of staff. You can then reject the meal and choose not to have it replaced if you wish. Alternatively, you can ask for the meal to be ‘repaired’ or ‘REPLACED’, and therefore ask for a new meal or a replacement item of food. In the event that the replacement meal or item does not meet the standard you expected then you will have a final opportunity to ‘reject’ the meal. In the event you reject the meal you should NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT'. We will not be visiting this establishment again.

Their whitebate taste awful (like rotten fish) i couldnt eat it. Ordered cod fish ON its own since I have chips already and its another disappointment “TASTELESS”. NO couldnt recommend this place at all.

I purchased 2 regular cod with 2 small portions of chips expecting something above average. What I received was nothing short of disgusting. Having paid nearly £9 for a piece of cod each, the quality and size would not make the £1 mark. To add insult to injury, the fish was over fried with a very dark brown colour and a horrendous taste. The chips were passable, nothing more. I acknowledge that I should have inspected the contents of the boxes before leaving the shop especially when the customer before me asked for a refund. The purchase was made e route to my home; so to return this excuse for food would result in a further cost of fuel which I was not prepared to do. Finnegans you will have to up your game if you are to survive this crowded market.

Beautifully cooked batterless cod and chips, well worth the £13.50 price. Chips were chunky, clean and ample portions. Hubby enjoyed the same with a pot of mushy peas. Oasis summer fruit and an iced latte were ideal on a warm sunny late April day. Tables, chairs and floors were very clean. Double shop front take away and restaurant with room for plenty of seating. Staff are happy and friendly, clearing and cleaning tables promptly. A bit cheeky charging extra for tartare sauce at 99p. Mushy peas were an extra £2.50. Located a short walk from the sea front entering a side street next to the right hand side of the Pavillion.

Disappointing. Paid £12.99 for fish and chips. Both really dry. ‘Large cod’ that had shrunk since last visit. Charged extra 99p for tartare sauce without being told it was extra. Restaurant prices for chippy food. Well you live and learn. Won’t go back in a hurry!!

We haven’t visited Finnegans (Well Street, Porthcawl) Fish and Chip Restaurant for quite a while now. Today, was the first time we had visited since lockdown. We were impressed with there COVID precautions and were asked to wear a mask until we sat down at our table, use hand sanitiser before sitting down and our personal details were details were taken. The menu was on the disappointing side as it had been significantly reduced and in addition to that most of the items on the menu were not available. For example, i was looking for fish and they only had COD or COD GOUJONS. My biggest gripe with today’s visit was the fact that the menu stated you get 5 pieces of fish for £10.50. When my food arrived i only had 4 pieces. Having queried this i was told that it was a miss print and it was only 4. The menu’ could easily be ammended to reflect this, new one’s bought, or i could have been told this at point of purchase, yet it was never mentioned until after purchasing and being served. Really disappointed with this restaurant on today’s visit. Be wary of this menu just in case there are other items that have been falsely represented (e.g. 10 Scampi, 4 Southern Fried Chicken Goujons, 10 Chicken Bites, 8 mini spring rolls).

My husband and I have been concerned about eating out since lockdown but we have just had a delicious fish and chip dinner in a very safe ,very organised ,spotless restaurant. Plenty of space between tables and food was cooked to perfection . A very enjoyable experience. You won’t be disappointed if you decide to eat in. Give it a go .

We were so looking forward to Finnegans fish & chips as we had not eaten out since the 3rd January owing to my husband having spinal surgery.We have always enjoyed our fish & chips fron the takeaway shop in Station Road, so when Finnegans opened in Wells Street we were very pleased to be able to 'eat in' and have always enjoyed our meals.Sorry to say though that the takeaway that we had from Wells Street when lockdown eased was so disappointing and not up to expectations and at just under £20 for two we considered rather costly, especially as the fish was thin & the chips very dry.

I just ordered click and collect from Finnegans in Porthcawl for the second time. For the second time they got my order wrong.I can't see the point of asking you to specify your order when it just gets ignored. I had asked for confirmation of my order when I collected it and was told it was correct. I phoned the shop when I got home and discovered the order was incorrect to be told it must have been the mistake of one of the servers and they were sorry.I have a peanut allergy and, had I been served a peanut butter sandwich instead of a sausage in batter, how sorry would they be then?!!!Order click and collect at your peril. It's a lottery win if you get the right order

This fish bar is by far the best in Porthcawl. Best service and best food in town. Their system since lockdown is tremendous and anyone worried about going to a shop to collect their food don’t worry. They have a strict social distancing system in pace which is actively enforced by staff. Food great, service great people great.. thanks again.

We had a click and collect pick up from Finnegans last night-ordered earlier in the day (which was easy); it was Just ready when we turned up on time-fresh chips with Pie and fish cakes; lovely treat.

We fancied a treat today so ordered this morning. The ordering system was simple to navigate, food on time for collection and food hot fresh and delicious. Highly recommended.

I paid £8.30 for Fish & Chips which I think is very expensive. The Chips were ok but the fish small, not crispy and quite greasy & soggy. Definitely not worth the price tag. I will never go again .

As I my wife is high risk for this virus I phoned to order our fish and chips as I did not want to wait for it to be cooked alongside potentially infected other customers.I was told that they do not take orders over the phone so our fish and chips was cancelled.How ridiculous is this, it’s a takeaway, the Chinese, Indians, Pizza houses etc have been taking phone orders for decades, how do they expect people to stand around waiting for their fish to be cooked with this virus going around?I remember when you used to just walk in and buy fish that had been just cooked in anticipation of customers coming in. A brilliant idea and I wish chip shops would try it sometime to see how it goes especially now otherwise they are going to see a big reduction in footfall.

Absolutely faultless fish and chips. Freshly cooked fish and the chips were fat and greaseless not loads of scrappy bits.I ordered a portion of mushy peas and a pot of tartare sauce and both were delicious and plentiful.The chips are unlimited but we couldn’t even finish the original portion so paying that bit extra is a bit pointless really.The seating isn’t the most comfortable as they are fixed so my mother struggled getting in and out as she’s a bit overweight and immobile but we got her in and out!My only gripe was the bread and butter. The bread was great but please don’t advertise as butter when it’s a poor imitation of awful margarine. I would highly recommend eating here though as the staff were friendly and efficient and the food was delicious.

We went to Porthcawl for a walk along the beach and ended up at Finnigans Fish Bar in John Street -WOW!!! Have never tasted Cod in batter like that anywhere. You also get unlimited chips -where else would you get that? You must try the battered onion rings, they are the size of doughnuts!!! Spotlessly clean, very friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

A very cold Monday lunch time but even so there were quite a few people dinning in and a queue for take aways.Lovely that they offer fish without batter and that you can have unlimited chips if you have a big appetite. Batterless cod came with a whisper thin light coating of seasoned flour and lovely fresh chips. My portion of whitebait was huge and yummy. You order and pay at the counter then the friendly staff deliver your food and drinks.

Went to Porthcawl yesterday evening to visit my mum which means I pick up cod and chips on the way. Normally go to Beales but they were closed for some reason. Ordered 2 * cod and chips. 16.60! Got to my mums and when we opened the boxes you could see the grease inside. The batter on the cod wasn't crisp like beales. All in all very uninspiring. Wont be rushing back.

Came to Porthcawl for winter walk on beach and fish and chips and found this place. Not the cheapest but the fish and chips were amazing best we've had in long time. Would recommend hot curry sauce as well. Staff were also friendly and welcoming. If you want decent fish and chips come to this place

Visited here today for lunch, I had faggot's peas and chips my husband had cod and chips, beautiful. We have been here lots of times they always make us feel welcome the place itself is as clean as a pin and the food is great. We travel over an hour to get there but it's worth it.

My Daughter and I were in Porthcawl today and we called in to Finnigans fish bar for a bite to eat, we both had fish goujons and chips which were the best I have had for a long time. The batter was thin and crispy and beautiful white fish also the chips were nice too. Hope it’s as good Friday because I’m going to take the wife there.

At the time of our visit the restaurant was busy and the takeaway was serving as well.

Visited Finnegans with friends two weeks ago, the fish and chips was absolutely splendid the very best we have tasted for many years.

Get the Negative feeds out the way. Toilet to small for the size of the restaurant and only one toilet mixed lady/Gent. It’s was very clean and well kept.

Took my husband and kids for lunch yesterday to the one in Porthcawl Town, wow what amazing service. Friendly happy polite staff, the best latte I've ever had and the food was out of this world. The cod was cooked to perfection, the batter was crispy and tasty which I've rarely found anywhere else and the chips were to die for. Nothing was greasy, all clean and fresh.

I have visited this fish and chip shop many times over the years with my family and we have never had a bad experience. The food is always lovely!

My partner went in here with our kids, at first it was nice and friendly, but as soon as our son made some noise she was told to keep him quiet, when she told him that it's a family restaurant so you expect some noise, his reply was "ITS MY RESTAURANT" and was not in a professional manner (more aggressive if anything).

Four of us went for lunch while visiting family locally. The battered cod was absolutely gorgeous - cloud-like batter and perfectly cooked fish with a beautiful flavour. Best we’ve ever had!! Friendly staff and scrupulously clean premises. Will definitely be back

If I’d wanted white clear, tasteless mash potato instead of chips then fine but I didn’t!!! Absolutely disgusting, when I phoned to complain I was told that they were unable to buy suitable potatoes due to the time of year and basically that was that!! No apology and was told all other chip shops are giving the same chips at the moment. This is totally wrong as I had the nicest chips ever in Beales fish and chip shop around the corner. Avoid this chip shop!!!!!

Today our group of 18 people most of whom suffer with Sight Loss and three in wheelchairs visited Porthcawl. We wanted to have lunch near the seafront and chose Finnegans.

Must be the dearest fish and chips in Porthcawl. £8.30 for a small fish and chips. If you want extra large cod it's £8.80 just for the fish without chips!!!! All cooked well but it's only £6.75 at beales for the same. Maybe it's extra for the box which has finnegans plastered all over it!!! Don't like being overcharged

First time visiting the finnegans restaurant in Porthcawl. Friendly staff and clean. Beautiful pieces of fish. Chip portions on the small size as was the fish but in their favour well cooked, meaty fish with good flavour.

We have always had our fish and chips from finnegans.We travel 6 miles for these normally once a week and have done for many years.We thought we would try their restaurant/ takeaway in Well street for a change as we normally go to the Finnegans in New Road.I can truthfully say we wont visit this one again.The portion size was minuscule! We had paid for the larger portion of chips and I we queried when they put them on the paper if it was the correct size.The 'gentleman' that worked there came over and said they are our new portion sizes ..he was quite abrupt and then walked away.We paid and left.If you like paying above the average price for a portion of chips from ONE POTATO if your lucky then the place is 'alright'.Would I go there again??? No.We have gone back to the one in New Road..friendly helpful staff..tidy portion sizes and no attitudes! Long may it continue !! Visited Porthcawl’s finnegans. Where do I start? Amazing service and even better food! Locally sourced chips and fish! So nice to see a family business still thriving and keeping their standards!

I just ordered chips for me and my son. We would usually share a good sized portion costing £1_90. THE PORTION SERVED UP WAS DERISORY. I queried the lack of chips with the young boy serving and he was embarrassed to say that this was a new directive. There couldn't have been more than one potato to make up the order.My new directive to my family, as we are locals, is to go to Beales , a couple of minutes walk away.

I have frequented this chippy many times, and had the senior meal because it was always enough though more expensive there than others in the area,BUT over the last few months I have noticed is that the portions have got noticeably smaller, last night what I was served was so small that my partner and I were still hungry the fish was so small I would say it was a gougon so small it was pathetic I will not be going there again.

Superb fish and chips on a Sunday afternoon, we sat in the restaurant which was exceptionally clean and friendly atmosphere. Having worked in a Chippy many years ago I know how good Chippy food should be.

Decided we both would have a Finnegans takeaway this evening 17 June 2019. I ordered chicken curry and chips. This was expensive compared to just a curry sauce.i got it home. Opened it and it was basically a curry sauce with peppers and just one small strip of chicken the size of a chip. For the expense I think it was awful and I will not go there again as I been disappointed there before but gave another chance. If you want quality for the price then Mansells chippy by the fair or Beatles is best.

We were lucky to stumble across this gem of a place on the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. It is immaculately clean and all the staff team are very friendly and helpful. We both ordered the extra large cod, peas and chips and I have to admit that it was the nicest portion of cod that I've had in a long time, perfectly cooked with an amazing crispy batter, a credit to the chef. Two words to describe this restaurant and that is "simply excellent".

Since my last visit Sidolis have retired what a shame, had a hot drink and small chips called child's portion charged over three pounds for chips undercooked and very small portion. Very young inexperienced staff, certainly gone done hill and prices hiked. Will not be returning sadly
