Came across this lovely place by accident whilst walking through Milngavie on Saturday afternoon and so glad we did. Food was amazing with excellent service. So many lovely things to choose from on the menu that we will definitely be back. The seafood lasagne was amazing. Nice vibe to the place and loved the music. Huge thanks to our waiter, super friendly.

Lovely decor, very friendly, but waited 3/4 hour before seeing any food. The squid starter was delicous but the baked bream main course a disappointment as it was served with just three tiny potatoes and one piece of inedible broccoli. The vegetables we were serve were all literally raw. To be fair we were given a discount at the end of the evening. The dessert was Ok. I would definitely go back but stick to fish and chips.

Served with a nice cold Beer.. PERFECT!! What more could you want? all in all price wise we found it Fantastic value for money. Service: The Manager/Waiter (for us) Jamie was really attentive, friendly, helpful and knew his stuff Made our visit feel really special so big thank you Jamie. Ambiance: Friendly,Relaxed and Welcoming I would highly recommend this fantastic restaurant in Milngavie and myself and family will most definitely look forward to a return visit in the near future.

Fantoosh We arrived for our booked table at 20:00 on 18/06/22 promptly, to be offered several two-person tables. We chose the one in the window area, by the door. It’s never a good start when your server welcomes you with a negative – “Let me tell you what we don’t have,” rather than phrasing restricted choices positively. Needless to say, our chosen main, seared tuna, was unavailable. So, we sat at our unset table, and pondered the menu. I touched the table surface when laying down the, now restricted, menu to find the table surface sticky, my dining partner confirmed this to be the case too – not just in one area but across its entirety. Anyway, we ordered a couple of Aperol spritzers, which arrived in due course at which point we ordered: crab cakes and Cullen Skink to start; moules marinière (or “marinere” on the menu) with frites – my dining partner chose the ‘Whole Tandoori Sea Bream,’ but without the spices or fennel, just a simply presented fish with a selection of vegetable to accompany it instead. The stem of my glass of Aperol Spritzer was also sticky – presumably it was an unadvertised sticky-themed night; and still the table was unset, no cutlery or paper napery as yet. Also, conspicuously absent from the Aperol spritzers were any bubbles (presumably the bottle of prosecco which had contributed to the contents had been open for some time). Bizarrely, as we contemplated our bubbleless aperitifs, a side dish containing some cooked carrots and broccoli arrived at the unset table – we sent this inexplicable arrival back as “not ours,” but then realised that these were the ‘selections of vegetables’ that were supposed to accompany the sea bream – we hadn’t even been presented with the first courses yet. I, presciently as it unfortunately happened, these same vegetables would later reappear with the sea bream. Starters arrived, but still with no napery or cutlery, a waiter was flagged down and cutlery was provided by another, somewhat sour-faced and uncommunicative, young server. My Cullen Skink was good and my dining partner’s crab cakes were tasty though over-fried and thus rather too crunchy – shrapnel injuries were a risk when trying to insert the late-arriving cutlery into them. We then waited for the non-tuna steak mains. Again, my moules were fine (though something easily rustled up at home) and the skin-on fries were excellent. My partner’s main arrived in foil, lack of cutlery made eating this difficult – so she managed to obtain some from a nearby table having given up trying to attract any of the idly chatting staff members who seemed to congregate around the bar area. And, surprise, surprise!! Yes, the vegetables that arrived unannounced some twenty minutes earlier were unsurprisingly but disappointingly represented aside the befoiled fish, now grossly overcooked and rubbery they proved unpleasantly chewy as an accompaniment. So, basically, my dining partner ‘enjoyed’ a poorly seasoned whole fish baked in foil – a wedge of lemon and a sprinkling of freshly chopped dill would have been good, but heyho, all of our, by now, extremely low expectations had been effortlessly (lack of effort being the recurrent theme) met. It comes as no pleasure to write a review such as this, so aside from the justified negativity a few suggestions are: • Clean tables down properly, and ensure that they are laid with cutlery, napery etc • If dealing with fresh food menu items that are seasonal or in short supply, do not produce pre-printed menus but have chalkboards that can be kept up-to-date ‘live’ • Make sure glasses etc are washed and are not sticky • When presenting aperitifs, use fresh ingredients rather than flat prosecco • When clearing a course, replace cutlery etc • We suspect that given Saturday night is the last opening for dinner until the following Thursday – running down of fresh menu items will inevitably lead to disappointment. Do not use preprinted menus, but rather use instantly updateable chalkboards to present fresh menu options. • Employ staff that are customer focussed. Far too many front-of-house are employed, who spend too much time chatting amongst themselves and ignoring the people who ultimately pay their wages. The buzz of employing, energetic young people contributes a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere – when they don’t give a ****, a dire experience is in prospect. The six or so staff could be halved in number and replaced with dynamic, professional individuals. • As an aside, give the inside of the gents’ toilet a wipe down and / or lick of paint wouldn’t go amiss– its condition combined with the night’s focus on stickiness leaves one wondering what kitchen conditions are like. We left, not wanting another drink or dessert. A tip will be left if I ever return and find standards becoming of a pescatarian delight focused on freshness and good customer service. Attempts to contact senior management failed – the email link on the Fantoosh website goes to a generic wordpress@example.com address, no registered office details are provided etc etc. It would have been good to provide feedback directly, but not easily possible – so here we are on Trip Advisor.

A wonderful meal with good service and simple but well cooked dishes. Both the Cullen Stink and Tuna Steak were wonderful with good portion sizes that were full of taste. Nice setting and ambiance and you really can’t go wrong with a visit if you’re in the area.

Another fab meal at Fantoosh, scallops and Stornaway black pudding was absolutely delicious, as was the moules mariniere. Manager Jamie was attentive and full of chat, and he even remembered that, in his first shift at the Nook back in October 2018, we had been his first ever customers. Love the place, love the food, and it’s even got fürstenberg on tap!

Three of us went here for lunch and all really enjoyed it. Its well priced at £17 for two courses and £20 for three courses. Our server for lunch was Jamie who was excellent, very friendly and efficient. The Cullen skink was delicious and portion size good. Modules marinere, fish and chips along with the frito misto were all very good. My wife says the chocolate brownie was perfection..... praise indeed. Would happily return again and have recommended to family and friends.

Lovely decor. Friendly welcome and excellent service. Food is cooked to order but you don't wait long for your meal to arrive at the table. We started with the king prawns and smoked salmon which were both delicious. We both chose the seared Barra scallops on Stornoway black pudding with pea puree and a side of fries. Beautifully cooked and surprisingly filling!

Living local, I am always passing this restaurant and finally decided to have lunch there with hubby, as friends & neighbours had told me it was great - and they were not wrong! The decor was beautiful and had a lovely fish theme, the staff were attentive and friendly and the food was excellent. All COVID procedures were fully in place and the tables were well spaced out. We took advantage of the 3 course lunch menu for £18.95 and every single mouthful was delicious. We expected the portions to be small (nope!) they were normal sized and my particular favourite was the pan fried sole. The white chocolate and raspberry pot was pure greed as we were pretty full but so tasty! They also had both draft and bottled beers and a selection of wines and all very reasonably priced. This place is a a real asset to Milngavie village and we will be returning (with friends) very soon!

2 very good express lunches at £12.50 per head...Tom Yum Gai soup for TT...Mrs TT enjoyed 3 Thai fish cakes...soup full of flavour and just spicy enough. Then Pad Thai chicken... Good blend of the noodles, chicken and veggies. Mrs TT ate chicken Massaman with jasmine rice...all eaten up eagerly.Prawn crackers offered while we waited for the food to be prepped..excellent. Call it 4.5 blobs as the decor is a bit basic. All in all seems a good addition to TTs roster of local places to visit. Oh, and with a soda and lime plus a good jasmine tea ( a big plus always for TT) the bill didn't quite get to £28. Value indeed and well recommended by TT.
