One day me and my friend were walking aimlessly through Central London. Pondering, looking for the purpose of life. We walked and walked and realised that we were craving food, hunger and despiration. Continuing our stroll through London we came across Shepards bush, and knew what we had to do. Thai, it was Thai that we needed. Following our instinct we found Esarn Kheaw, an establishment that would soon be regarded as excellency in physical form. We entered and were instantly greeted by the most lovely staff I have ever laid eyes upon. The amount of confidence our waitress had was astonishing and made us feel safe and comfortable. Her knowledge of the menu was vast and indescribable, she recommended us the restaurant’s specialties. Each dish was made and served with an upmost of care and attention. Me and my friend were starstruck and left in awe! I can’t wait for my next adventure in Esarn Kheaw. A definitive recommendation.

Terribly disappointed by the service (didn’t try the food). We made a booking for 9pm and arrived on time. Upon arrival they tell us they are not going to cook any more rice?!?! Even though last order was at 9:30? I’m sorry but Thai food without rice is like a sandwich without bread. It takes 10 mins to boil some rice. Instead they suggested we takeaway and get rice elsewhere… Now there may be various limitations unknown to me in -boiling some rice- but… trying to justify the alternative and the attitude of “this is perfectly normal” was uncalled for. We left. And we came to Addies Thai a 10 min drive away which remains as my favourite Thai spot in London.

We called the restaurant to book a table and got a reservation When we arrived they told us that they didn't have rice, which is one of the most important side dish to eat Thai food. They first told us than they ran out, which is very odd and then admitted that they didn't want to cook anymore rice because it was too inconvenient as it was 9pm and wouldn't let us get rice from an outside restaurant. As a customer you expect to get rice and not be told that it is too inconvenient to cook it for you. We drove 80 min to get there and were expecting a much better service and be able to eat our food. We were very bad received and spoken too very badly. We left and went to a much more Friendly thai restaurant. Don't go there !!!

The curry here is amazing, best I’ve ever had, though slightly salty so have it with rice! For the curry alone I would give 5 stars. The other things are hit and miss, once I got pad thai that definitely had ketchup in it, which was odd, but it still tasted good

Don't go! There was a hair in my chicken. Service was awful. We asked for an explanation 40 minutes after ordering and were told they had only 'just started' cooking our food. When it finally came out, the server told us that he would get us bigger plates to put our food on-- and then it took 5 minutes and us requesting another waitress to get the plates. Slower than slow. Every table in the place looked unhappy and impatient.

Esarn Kheaw is a family-run Thai restaurant that has been serving traditional Northeastern Thai cuisine in Shepherds Bush for over 30 years. The restaurant is small and cozy, with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff are friendly and attentive, and they are always happy to recommend dishes to their guests. The food is all made fresh to order, and the flavours are authentic and delicious. menu at Esarn Kheaw features a wide variety of Northeastern Thai dishes, including som tam (spicy papaya salad), larb (spicy minced meat salad), and khao soi (curry noodle soup). We had stuffed wings and spring rolls for starter, which was perfect. For our main courses, we had fried rice and chicken thai curry, very flavoursome and penang curry with sticky rice, which was creamy and tasty. Overall, I had a great experience at Esarn Kheaw. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was inviting. Tems is fab. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Definitely one of the best if not the best Thai restaurants in London I’ve had. We had the chicken satay and pad Thai and not a lot of places cook the chicken just right. Most restaurants overcooks the chicken and it becomes too dry, but this place nailed it with that and the flavour was so balanced. With the satay chicken the peanuts were just on point. Will come back if I’m in the neighbourhood again. Would love to try their sea bass dish next time as it looks amazing

The waitress was very kind and friendly explaining their specialties. However, the food didn’t turn out that special to us unfortunately… Ox tail was the only one we liked very much, its taste was extraordinary with that vinegar and home made chilli sauce but be mindful it’s quite spicy to normal people like us. The grilled sirloin steak was over cooked so I wouldn’t recommend it, son-in-low egg didn’t impress me and the ice tea with milk was also lower than expectations.

Well it had taste but it was like red water it spilled out everywhere all over the bag even though it was in an takeaway box. I live in Shepherd’s Bush this place was amazing when an older pair ran the place may e their parents? Or different owners. But since they are no liger here and these younger people are cooking it’s not the same place. It’s over priced for the quality. Made with coconut creek this dish should be creamy. I guess they are trying to save money. Thai always has the benefit that it’s so much better than Chinese is made naturally a lot less oil. This thug was oily, watery runny. Horrid. Nice people but I suggest to management to do a proper Thai course or just use less oil and coconut cream. This is embarrassing compared to the quality it used to be. A plate or water and oil isn’t cool or lower your prices to reflect the quality.

Thai food became popular in the uk because of the ease of service. One chef all the tropical ingredients and a decent menu. A lot of thai restaurants tend to have a rushed approached to their food, not so with Esarn Kheaw. They take a slow approach to their food and it shows. The must try dishes are the house made thai sausages. Sweet, sticky and packed with umami. They also offer a great Jungle Curry with authentic wild ginger, fresh green peppercorns and jungle aubergines for a taste of thai food at its core.

This was slightly tested when 2 of the appetisers (pappaya salad and grilled duck breast) were too spicy despite our plea for a less spicy approach by the kitchen (as we had remembered the old lip-numbing days). The chicken satay was alright though more peanut sauce ought to have been offered. For main courses we enjoyed the grilled sea bass, though not the charred mushrooms that were ordered as a side to it. Meanwhile, the duck curry was quite good but the accompanying rice was beyond normal stickiness, in parts at least. So, overall, perhaps a generous Very Good. but this is supported by our decision to return not least because there are plenty of menu choices and there is always the hope that the heat-level will be turned down more next time

THE HELMET WAITER HAS GONE! I kinda missed him tonight as I've given Esarn Kheaw a lot of press due to that numpty. But a new lovely waitress is in place and she knows her stuff - much more enjoyable experience. Food is excellent. All the more reason to stop take awaying finally and go sit down in the restaurant now that weird helmet scoffer licker has been given the nudge.

I haven't eaten here for a while so was in the area and decided to have dinner here The food is just as authentic and well cooked as in previous visits We had the Issan sausages which were so good we re ordered again and thai fishcakes This was followed by a traditional jungle curry made with fresh peppercorns ( other Thai rest omitt this) grilled pork chop, steamed seabass with shitake mushrooms and a very delicious som tamThe tamarind sorbet for dessert was sour and refreshing perfect for ending a meal full of exciting flavours The place has been freshened up , walls are cream now instead of green with colourful new tableclothes .The young woman serving was wonderful very charming and helpful The young male waiter who many reviewers have complained about was nowhere in sight As a frequent visitor to Thailand i must say Esarn Kheaw is still the best and most authentic place to eat Thai food in London. 10 out of 10 from me

Basically the worst Thai I have ever had. It's not authentic at all and and I'm 110% sure it's all from a packet. Went for a casual meal the main was bland and and extremely salty. Complained and was met with rudeness. Not acceptable if your a paying customer

2 stars is harsh given the food is good, taking me back to Bangkok and Ko Tao...so why only 2 stars. The waiter. He's going to be a marmite character for sure, yet as others have mentioned in different reviews, he's intrusive and doesn't seem to be able to pick up on signals to step back. Looking at all the other customers who were there at the same time, you could see the frustration and annoyance on their faces yet he was unable to pick up on it.I'm sure it's done with the intention of being super friendly and funny....unfortunately it's just annoying, comes across as egotistic and makes you think he's on more than just the high of his job. I'd like to recommend this place because of the food, but actually, I won't be back and I'd recommend staying away and finding somewhere different where you can enjoy your meal.

This is the one restaurant I have visited for the longest time in London. I have been coming back for the same consistently flavoursome North Eastern style Thai for over 20 years! The food is truly excellent! Unfortunately for the restaurant, the decor and service staff are also the same and it can be underwhelming but I am here for the food and that never disappoints. The emphasis on the tried and trusted menu is refreshing in an age when Thai food restaurants elsewhere are on a crusade to outdo each other on the glamour of the restaurant rather than the quality of its food. If you only came here to benchmark your Thai food knowledge, it would be an experience worth the effort. Best Thai I have eaten in the UK and I am a big fan of Thai cuisine.

Me and my partner found this place very randomly whilst craving for some authentic Thai food and we were not disappointed. Food was amazing!! The portions were good sizes and we were really happy with all that we ordered.... If I had to criticise anything it would be the decor but other than that I would definitely recommend for food.

I was stuck waiting to get a late train out of London and found myself in Shepherds Bush with a need for some food. I picked this place pretty much at random and it turned out well.Interior decor not much to write home about but there's nothing wrong with it. I picked the Thai sausages for starters and then the Tiger Cry for main course (strips of griddled steak with a spicy sauce). Both went down very well and was a nice departure from the usual Thai fare I'd usually choose.Service was quick and efficient - and er, unique. Yes, you'll see reference to the young waiter in the other reviews here and I too feel that it's worth mentioning this aspect of the establishment. He was extremely friendly and helpful and I don't think you could fault him for enthusiastic service. However, as another review mentioned, he might need to work on his judgement on where the line sits between enthusiastic service and invasive service. He pretty much insisted on showing me how to eat my sausages properly, actually fetching a new set of cutlery and attacking my plate cutting up my food. At one point a thought he was going to feed me! Thankfully he did not go this far.I have to say that his advice one the best way to eat the combination of sausage, chilli, ginger and peanuts was good! So in the end I did get more out of my meal as a result. So, yeah, an unusual approach but it worked out well for me!Bottom line: I really enjoyed the food but if you're not one for an 'over interactive' waiter, having a sense of humour failure that day, or are just simply in a bad mood and want to be left alone, then you may not find the service so much fun.As a software engineer might put it: he's a not a Bug, he's a Feature! :-)

This northern Thai has been there for ever. Whereas at one time it had the novelty of regional cooking and ethnic decor it all looks a bit tired and worn. Thai food has moved on.I visited with friends for the first time in years - with considerable skepticism - we had had very poor service in the pastWe need not have worried the service was fine, the elderly waiter doing his best to take orders, (returning twice as he had misheard the order) and trying to fit all the dishes on the tableWe had a papaya salad and vegetarian spring rolls. The spring rolls were peppery and appreciated - the salad had real chili bite that had everyone gasping and gulping drinks but everyone carried on eating it and it was finished fast - a lovely concoction of different textures, chili, sour papaya and salty fish sauceWe followed with Pad see-ew (flat noodles one with prawns and a vegetarian one) which were OK - a bit dryThe beef red curry was goodThe fried sea bass with chili sauce was excellent (Pla Lrd Prk)We had a plate of steamed rice and an egg fried rice which was very goodI finished off with a coconut sorbet which was a nice clan and palate calming way to finish the spicy mealWe had a bottle of very reasonably bottle of sauvignon blanc to go with the mealThe meal was a reasonable price A good neighborhood Thai but not worth making a detour for

Quirky small family restaurant. Food mainly great especially the jungle curry. The massaman was ok -meat tender but too much potato in the sauce for my liking. Waiter suggested adding a vegetable dish. Glad we did. He was good craic and added to the whole quirky experience-I think once you had been in a few times you would be adopted as part of the family. We left knowing how to make napkins into lotus flowers. Enjoyed the whole meal.

Esarn Kheaw is a lovely little family run thai restaurant in the heart of shepherds bush. The menu is excellent and there is certainly a lot to choose from. The food is very authentic, (perhaps too authentic for some reviewers on here it would seem) and if you love Asian food you will enjoy this place. Agree regarding sentiments of the young waiter however most great restaurants have eccentric characters. Will certainly be back.

Really disappointed after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. I ordered the vegetable springs rolls which weren't great with a cheap 'sweet chilli sauce' you could buy from your corner shop. My partner had the spare ribs which had hardly any meat on them. For main my partner had the beef massaman and I had the Thai Red Curry which was pretty tasteless with no spice at all. The decor of this place is very dated, wasn't a very nice place to sit in and the waiter was pretty useless. I think he might have been the owner but at one point we saw him eating his food near us at another table (whilst he was working) and eating his food with his hands. A couple then arrived for a table and without washing his hands he then saw to them. Wouldn't recommend and definitely wouldn't go back.

How this restaurant has 4 stars on tripadvisor and timeout, I don't know! This is by far the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Perhaps it's our fault. Maybe we should have walked away after noticing that the most recent of the restaurant review accolades displayed in the window was issued in 1997!The restaurant was run down, had a musty old people's home smell to it and, to get it out of the way, the food was distinctly average. I'm open minded, though. Let's assume we ordered poorly and put the dated decor/smell down to "character". The waiter, on the hand, cannot be excused. He opened with a wildly inappropriate comment about "deflowering" me and wafted my starter in my face telling me how delicious it looked, before eventually putting it on the table only after being instructed to do so. We honestly thought he was stoned or something, but reading the other reviews here it sounds like this is his normal behaviour. Like other diners, he constantly bothered us with bizarre ramblings throughout our meal and at one point we saw him eat some food from another table's plate! We spent most of the meal trying to spot hidden cameras, convinced we were going to appear on some terrible prank TV show.Needless to say, you couldn't pay me to return to this restaurant!

Visited midweek just as the place opened. Wanted to try the food from another region of Thailand and unfortunately i was slightly underwhelmed. Like a previous reviewer I also found the thai sausages a little disappointing. Yes they came with ginger, but no dipping sauce and hence just a garlic sausage. The catfish and peppercorn main was tasty, but most of the fish appeared to have swum off and definitely not worth the £11+ cost. Red thai ice cream was pleasant but again not huge. I have to agree with a previous reviewer about the young waiter, He obviously knew the occupants of the table that came in after me, but i was cringing on their behalf as first he played over the top to the kids and then tried to make witty remarks to the adults. This wasn't successful and by the time i finished my meal, I was glad to escape from the banter. Meals need to be more substantial to warrant a visit and the waiter to be gagged.

From other reviews here j got the impression that the homemade sausages would be the highlight of our visit here. At their best they were salty sausages. Nothing particularly Thai about them. The main courses we had on the other hand were very good! The pad Thai I would recommend. The service was good. We were asked optimistically whether we had a reservation. I think he had forgotten it was a Tuesday night!

As soon as you walk in you realise this restaurant is a family run business. A brother and sister duo seem to be front of house and you can only assume their parents are in the kitchen cooking up the good smells. We came here very hungry and decided to get starters. We chose the Thai Sausages which had a unique flavour of lemongrass and spices; the pork dumplings were also very more-ish, definitely fresh and homemade. The best part about both of these dishes was the dipping sauce it came with. Hard to describe but a soy/fish like sauce with a hint of chilli. We both then had Thai curries for our main. This is where you need to be clever with what side dishes you order. The curries are very meaty dishes and there is very little vegetables in them. What we decided to do was get one rice to share and also a green vegetable side dish, which was roughly £7 which may seem expensive for a side but is well worth it as it came cooked in a similar sauce we had with the starter. I had gone for the Panang which had a lovely thick sauce and the beef was thinly sliced. My partner went for the massaman which was cubed beef but so tender it melted in your mouth. Both great in their own ways. The only slight annoyance we both felt was the waiter. At first he seemed very welcoming, funny and full of enthusiasm to talk to us but it then got very irritating as he didn't seem to know the boundaries between the customer. No questions that the food here is incredible and such a bargain. A two course meal with side dishes and a drink for £40. A restaurant I would recommend for the food but make sure you are in a good mood to handle the waiter. (Visit - 23/12/2014 Dinner Service)

In London for a couple of days and my son lives in Ealing, so thought of Thai food and this has good reviews. It does look a little run down from the front and is not all swish and swanky inside, but we never expected that. Accommodating and friendly owner. Good Chang beer!!Ordered classic thai food. Fish soups, Red and Green curries etc. All of it was just spot on. Excellent tastes. Good sized portions. Noodles were delicious. Rice very tasty. Sauces divine. So four of us, two courses each, plus beers. £100. Well worth a visit.
