Elif Turkish Barbecue Restaurant in Rotherham

The food is over priced and the owner/manager is a little slimy. Oh and PLEASE don't leave a tip the owner keeps them🤔they do not get passed on to the hard working staff, I know this because a former staff member told me.

Meal out with friends, 2 couples, quick service, pleasant staff, brilliant food. would go again. Brought surplus food home for snacks, large helpings.

let’s set the scene….. A warm Sunday evening, 6:30pm and an impromptu evening with good friends. A last minute decision to eat out and having heard good things we decided on Elif. On arriving there was one other group of four, staff and cooks were chilling. The waiter/manager/owner whoever he was greeted us, friendly enough. We sat at a table of four that was set for three, I wondered how long before a place setting would be set for me…… it will be done once the food arrives. We ordered drinks, asked a few general question’s about some dishes which were kind of answered. One of our party asked what was a good recommendation, to which the answer was ‘I’m not going to tell you because if you don’t like it you might complain’. At this point I started to think something wasn’t right. We asked for more time as we discussed the menu, within a minute he was back, just staring at one particular member of our party, which wasn’t me or my mate!!! more time please. 2 minutes and back…. My wife loves Taziki, when we asked about having some with the mains we were told we didn’t need it as some one would come with the meal, it didn’t and what we got was a small dish with some squirty mayo substitute…. Oh and by the way, still no place setting for me… Food came very very quickly, hot and tasty. Don’t expect Turkish rice as all dishes have Bulga. The flatbread which many Turkish places are renowned for was rubbish and unloved. The lamb was tender and nice, the salads Ok, the three small potatoes were very lonely. A second beer ordered, which, like my place setting sadly never arrived. (Still just us and the other 4 diners in the place) but funnily enough they didn’t forget to add it to the bill! Others have commented on plates being cleared while people still eating, this also happened to us. Table being cleared while two of us still eating, and one of us still being the focus of attention!!!! and yup, it still wasn’t me or my mate! To be honest I couldn’t wait to get out, place was weird and staff just rude, we felt like an inconvenience. There are far far better places such as Jimmys Kitchen for example on West Street in Sheffield. We won’t be back to Elfi!

Shocking experience. Arrived at 9pm, on a Saturday night. There were only 4 people in the restaurant. They left shortly after we arrived. We had just main meals, no starters or desserts. Mixed grill with just 2 meats, chicken in cream sauce, just like chicken soup. I was still eating when the waiter cleared plates away and brought the bill. £162 for 4 mains, bottle of wine and 4 bottles of beer. On checking the bill, we had been over charged by £30. Good job we checked as the door was locked after we left. Never had an experience like this, we were served and out in time to go back to the pub. Avoid this place at all cost

Staying in Hellaby, saw this at lunch time so we decided to come for dinner. So glad we did, scrumptious meal, we all had different, sorry can't pronounce the names, mine was number 29, lamb chops, bulgar and salad, oh it was fantastic, my daughter, had something different but lamb, granddaughter had a childs meal, very very good value. It's not cheap but it was well worth it, plenty of staff, all trying to be helpful

We’ve been here a few times now. Every time we have been we’ve asked for salmon and they never have it in, (maybe they should take it off the menu). We had king prawns for starter it was very salty! We both had Adana for mains. The meat was very tender but was also salty. The girl serving us was very nice and friendly. No Turkish tea! The restaurant felt very cold last night.

Walked into the restaurant got seated and the young lady took our drinks order, the drinks arrived straight away, we was then left 25mins for our food order and the only reason it wasn't longer is because we asked them to take our order, in this 25min we were waiting one of waitresses was sat on her phone on 3 separate occasions which got me quite annoyed, once the order was taken the food didn't take long to come. The quality of the food was mediocre at best, after we finished our meal they cleared the table and within a couple of minutes the bill was brought over to us (id not asked for it) then they were straight over with the card machine (id not asked for that either? We won't be going back there in a rush

Still the king! Incredibly consistent, superb beautiful healthy food. Very polite waitresses, I would have took a photo of it but it wasn’t around long.

Absolutely Beautiful!! We had a shared mixed grill and it was to die for. The food was high quality which was cooked to perfection. I cannot wait to go again. Wow.

Beautiful food as always, we’ve been quite a few time and never had an issue but tonight’s meal is the best we’ve ever had. Staff can’t do enough for you and are very friendly and welcoming and the food and atmosphere is just like being in Turkey. Highly recommend x

We have visited Elif many times and always had a great experience, not sure if the restaurant has new owners but the standard had dropped dramatically, we selected a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon blanc from the wine list at £22 a bottle, we were served a Spanish sauvignon that you would be disappointed if you paid more than £4 in a supermarket! The food was not up to previous standards and the side salads were very lacking, We were never asked if we would like more drinks and plates were removed whilst people were still eating! our bill then arrived without even asking if we would like desserts! overall very disappointing and a real shame if previous standards cant be met.

Disappointing. Really looked forward to it but it was pretty poor. The lamb skewer was rare which we were never asked about. We ordered a starter but never received it and didn’t realise we weren’t getting it until the main came out. When the bill came, the starter that we didn’t get was on it as well as a meal we didn’t have. One part of the meal which we didn’t realise wasn’t the one we’d ordered was charged at full price because “we’d eaten it” despite us not knowing it was wrong because as is standard, they’d taken the menus away. Despite this explanation and their error, nothing was offered for the mistake or for the meat spilling blood that I hadn’t asked for nor had I eaten. When we questioned it, it took 4 people having a huddled discussion for nearly ten mins while our taxi waited outside before I had to approach them to let them know I needed to leave. Even after all this time, they still managed to get it wrong but had to pay the full bill so as not to lose a taxi. Nothing offered despite the shocking service. Really sorry to say we won’t be coming back.

Poor service, poor product knowledge, worst of all arrogance for the ‘owner’. Asked what was the wine, the staff couldn’t tell what the label was. When eventually brought it, it was a Lidl £4 bottle of wine, they sell at £20. Wife’s food was just warm, when pointed this out , it took Mr Arrogant five minutes to come to our table. He merely shrugged his shoulders and said everybody’s meal was cooked at the same time. He didn’t offer any apology, or offer to warm it up. This apart, the food was good. But, the staff need a shake up.

Came with friends, sat down, wait staff were very polite, was busy aswell so was expecting a bit of a wait for food. Ordered starters and mains, drinks arrived promptly. However 45 minute wait for three plates of Hummus, not enough bread and a plate of chicken strips? Not only that but a table seated after us, ordered after us and got served their food before us. That's an instant no-no in my book. Food was nice however, if not over priced. Then the mains came soon after, most of them at least. All of us had nearly finished our food before my wife even received hers, said her chicken dish will be out in 2 minutes, 15 minutes later I had to chase. They definitely forgot, so she had to sit there watching her friends eat their meals, then had to eat hers after everyone else had finished. My friends are regulars too so you'd have thought we'd have had better service than this, but all in all, nice food, poor service and over priced. Probably won't be making a trip back here.

Went with friends and had a great night. The food was absolutely amazing and as we all had different food, no one had a bad word to say. It was cooked to perfection. It is a small venue with seating close together and is noisy when full but that adds to the atmosphere. You can see you meals being prepared as it has an open kitchen. Very reasonably priced too, considering how good the food is and the choices. Would recommend this to anyone - in fact, it won't be long before we will be going again.

Have always loved elif but what a strange visit. Arrived and we were the only people in the restaurant. The man serving us main approach was to insult us, call one of us boring for not drinking but then proceeded to tell us he just drunk drove and nothing wrong with that (he wasn’t joking) Took ages to take our food order, insulted us again. I then saw him get a bottle of water and wash his face with it but then not wash his hands after Food came and it was delicious as normal, couldn’t fault it. Service was awful though, never got offered another drink and we actually had to walk up to pay as he had no intention of coming to our table. He rounded up our bill without asking which usually I don’t mind but I tip for service not to be insulted

This has to be my favourite restaurant in Yorkshire. Great food--either the mixed grill or the grilled lamb chops are amazing. Always a nice salad and bulgur wheat. Staff always welcoming and friendly and cannot do enough for you.

I had been meaning to book for a meal there for some time and finally managed to go tonight with a friend. Safe to say that I won't be returning. The food and service was very poor. We ordered one main to share and a few meze dishes. The falafel was atrocious, it was dry, burnt and tasteless. My friend said that the vine leaves had fizzy taste to them. All of it was below average. The service was very rushed and they couldn't wait for you to pay and leave. There was not gratitude for the buisness. Really disappointed

Service was friendly and polite. The food was tasty enough but not great portions for the price. We had three courses and they were sent out quickly not really giving us much of a rest between each. The wine was nice enough.

Overpriced for very average food. The worst “Turkish” food we have eaten. Front of house staff enthusiastic but lacking knowledge. Not geared up to diet intolerance ie gluten free which suggests bought in food not freshly cooked.

Beautiful Turkish bbq food . Visited on a quiet Sunday pm but would recommend booking. Our server was so polite, attentive and obviously happy in his work. Asked for a cold mixed meze to start, wasn't on the menu but chef was more than happy to produce a huge plate of olives, various dips, stuffed vine leaves etc. Standout mains were the Adana which is a minced lamb kebab and the chicken guvec, a chicken, pepper and mushroom stew in a tomato sauce. The baklava was sweet tooth heaven. All washed down with a few bottles of Efes. Outstanding.

After reading the reviews I was looking forward to a nice meal, I had calamari starter and It was very over cooked, my main meal was just OK, waiter asked if everything was OK with the meal and I said no and didn't really get a reply so pointless of them asking

Excellent service and food considering we had a take booking mix up (when booking on website make sure you receive a confirmation email not just an email thanking you for making a reservation !!!).Despite the booking mix up, they managed to get us seated outside which just made the atmosphere better as weather was excellent.The staff, in particular the young waiter who took our order and most of service were excellent, polite, friendly and attentive.Food was excellent, recommend the mixed grill main.Looking forward to next visit and hopefully the takeaway options are just as good.

We ordered take away for my birthday meal and the restaurant didn't disappoint. The portion sizes are incredible. The dips and flat bread were an additional surprise and the meat can only be described as perfect. Perfectly seasoned dishes with high quality produce and great customer service. Ordered 2 chicken kababs and the usual comes with rice, Turkish bread, salad and dips. What we got was chicken with chips in a foil container and soggy flat bread and what looked like leftover salad and dips.Paid £30 for basically chicken and chips. Attempted to return it but the shop closed an hour earlier than it was advertised to. When I rang and spoke to them the next day, all I got was “when we run out of rice we use chips” I explained that if I was informed about this I wouldn’t of ordered and didn’t they think it was worth mentioning as we ordered feta chips too. This was for my wife’s birthday and basically it was a waste of money and was crap, we could of gone to KFC and enjoyed it more. When I spoke to the shop they said “when you order next we won’t charge you for chips. Don’t worry we won’t be ordering again. Very poor!

Tried Elif for the first time this evening. Awesome, fresh and super tasty food ready for collection within 30 minutes. The meal came with a selection of dips and bread as extra goodies, all made the food and portion size greater value for money. The owners promised me it wouldn’t be my last time after trying their food, they were right! They also added a baklava too! Great service and great food.

Ordered on 20th February. The food is absolutely incredible and the portions are enormous. We were also given quite a few extras for free. Could not recommend more highly.

Ordered to collect Saturday 13th Feb, the chicken shish was undercooked and inedible. Very disappointed and had no response from the restaurant! Will not be ordering again. This could of made us extremely poorly.

Had a takeout on Saturday 16th Jan. my partner is vegetarian. The food was excellent and service was excellent too. Would definitely use again and really appreciated the extras that came too. Great local restaurant.

We ordered a takeaway from here Saturday night. The man on the phone was a bit rude but the food we received was excellent. We ordered a selection of hot and cold mezze, all of which were delicious. We also received complimentary bread and dips. The food was ready on time when we collected. Very good and great value for money.

First ever visit and will definitely go again. The restaurant is smaller than most and has more of a bistro feel and a little sparse. But the staff are certainly nice enough and all smiles from the chef's. Ordered the Falafel and Sucuk, both were generous portions and tasty enough. The mains were Sebze Guvec and Chicken Guvec, basically a vegetable stew and chicken stew with accompanying salad and rice. Once again nice portions and the stews arrived in those earthenware dishes. Hot and tasty, we loved it. I hadn't realised it but dill seems to be popular in the salads and adds a refreshing taste as well. A nice basket of fresh bread on the table.Finished off with an excellent Turkish coffee, liqueur and a wonderful BaklavaWould love to come again but as a group just to try more of the dishes. Excellent food.

4 of us visited her for an evening meal on the 10th of October. Having come here with my wife before I highly recommended it to anybody and our friends decided to come with us..We booked a table last year with our friends at this resturant we arrived in time but no table was there for us, they asked us to wait 5 minutes, Sure no problem. 45 minutes later still no table so I tell them to leave it. Only after doing so to be told there is a table ready for us when they realised we were leaving. We didn't stay but decide to try another day. So fast forward to this most recent time. The table was ready for us. We sat down and instantly was asked for drinks without even having time to look at the menu, fair enough we ordered. 30 seconds later we were asked for our food order, which we ordered starters and mains. Our starters arrived within 2 minutes which was great however half way through eating our starters the mains were put on the table with barely any room to put them down. So we ate our mains immediately after finishing our starters. The waiter checked our table 3 times to see if we'd finished eating within the space of 10 minutes. Leaning over one of our shoulders to check whilest youre still eating is very uncomfortable especially with these Covid rules. We finished that and decided to finish our drinks over the next 10-15 minutes. we were looked at persistently almost like we were in the way and the sign was obvious they wanted us to leave, I understand that you may have another table coming in but I watched all the other customers being tret with proper custom, which brings me to my next point. I know the village very well due to working at one of the pubs 10 years ago. I recognised 80% of the customers in there who are part of the 'wickersly village 10 Bob millionaire elite' who were being treates like Kings. When you spend up to £80 a couple in meals and a drink or 2 you expect quality service, not to be treated like you're an inconvenience in the way of the locals. Food was nice, atmosphere sucked.

Not the biggest of restaurants but you are not cramped,they have covid screens etc in place.My group of friends were looked after very well,drinks and orders taken quickly ,the staff were very friendly and made time to chat even though they were very busy.The food was beautifully presented and looked delicious and it didn’t disappoint,our group all had something different and everyone said how lovely theirs was.The meats were all so tender and flavoursome.I cant wait to go back and try something different.

Despite rave reviews, I thought this place was awful. Booked on line, but no confirmation sent, so had to phone. Arrived minutes before booked time & shown a table - a sticky table - in Covid times...... Waited 15 minutes with a laminated sticky menu, with no further staff engagement. Another couple walked in, obviously known locals, & ordered & were served a bottle of wine. And still I sat there, totally ignored. So I walked out, and probably that wasn't noted. Appalling.

Had a a take away of lamb chops and chicken guvec. Great meal. Plenty of salad and bread. Spices were great.. highly recommended. A bit left over for lunch.

I booked a table for 5 a fortnight ago but when we arrived we were shown to a table for four with an extra chair crammed in at the end so close that it was touching a diner at the next table. I complained to the manager who simply said ‘ no more tables’ I was deeply unhappy and would have simply left but for the fact that this was a family meal for my daughter visiting from the Cayman Isles. To compound my annoyance they tried to charge for an extra item and (just to add insult ti injury) brought complimentary turkish delight....but only 4 pieces!! I object to being bounced from the table I ordered so that the management can fit in an extra table for six. I shall not be returning despite the fact that the food was good as reflected in my scoring.

Great food and service enjoyed our meals. It was very busy but service was ok. When paying our bill the waiter requested we gave our tip to a charity of our choice which we were very impressed with - very nice gesture and have paid it to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

The chicken and lamp tasted great. Also like the salad with special sauce it’s just absolutely tasty

I visited the restaurant with some friends from work after it was recommended and we had a good meal. When we visited the place wasn't busy at all which was nice. They have a good selection of authentic dishes on the menu. The food itself is very tasty and flavoursome. The only thing that let it down was the food was not very warm. This was partly due due to the plates being cold. The interior of the place is ok. The girl that served us was nice and chatty. We did not feel rushed which was good. Will definitely give it another try.

When we arrived it was packed (I dont know why) and not in a nice way. Imagine cramming 10 tables into your front living room and squashing 40 people around them that is what it was like. Horrendous, everyone sat on top of each other talking loudly. Once the table next to us was occupied there was no chance of escape the waiting staff had to press their bodies us against guests to get through.They took our order quickly and the food arrived quickly. The starter I had was some kind of tomato and pepper salad with feta cheese. The salad was absolutely freezing like they had just taken it from a freezer and the feta was grated in a mush on top. Half way through eating my starter they brought the main course, they didnt ask who ordered what just threw it on the table in anyones place. I protested I was still eating my starter, but he just replied we are very busy, eventually when for the 10th time I said I am still eating my starter he offered to take the main course back. !None of us enjoyed the food it was all bland and totally tasteless, we have definately been to far superior Turkish restaurants. A very rushed unpleasant evening.

Table for 8 people, on Saturday early evening (5pm). Food was delicious, although service let our experience down. Starters cleared away before everyone had finished and main course served too quickly. Felt very rushed.

An excellent evening at Elif! Like being in Turkey. Exceptional food and friendly staff and service right from the outset. There’s a great choice of traditional Turkish cuisine and it’s all cooked fresh and comes piping hot. My only complaint would be that other customers need to learn to shut doors as in a cold winters evening it can get quite chilly in there if doors are left ajar!

Visited here as a party of 8, the food is very good. The service although wasn’t great, the staff were friendly and helpful but not very tentative and also started to clear plates whilst people were still eating.

We were duly welcomed and seated quickly with our drinks order taken immediately. Drinks arrived promptly. Same for our food! Our shared meze platter was superb and a good sized portion. Main courses were flavoursome with good quality ingredients. It was all totally gorgeous. Will go back again soon....even though it's a 30 mile round trip!

Placed order online and waited for over 2 hours. When tried to cancel and refund was told they couldn’t as it was a big order and when I insisted they hung up and wouldn’t pick up. Appalling service. Wouldn’t recommend

First time we had tried Turkish food and were pleasantly surprised. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. Not the most extensive menue but food was freshly prepared and served quickly. Would highly recomend and will certainly visit again.

Visited here on a Saturday evening with family. We had a selection of hot and cold Turkish mezze, of which all were delicious. There is a limited drinks menu, however, the Turkish lager was nice. We found the food bill reasonable and we were well looked after by our waitress. Lovely restaurant.

Great food, nice atmosphere only disappointment was a boring G&t; that was stuck in the 1970s. Apart from that, I would definitely go again.

Came here for my birthday and had great night. Place is nice inside, like the fact that you can see them cooking the meat on the griddle and had good service. The meat was really tasty and accompanied by a lovely salad, would recommend to anyone who is a fan of Turkish food.

Been here 5 times now, how an earth people can say it’s bland food and poor service is beyond me within 30 minutes we had starter and main then relaxed with a drink, and the food speaks for itself 100% from us

Relaxed, easy atmosphere, great service - what a treasure to find! The food is so tasty, great portions and bursting with flavour. Good value - we started with the prawns in garlic & chilli and the spicy sausage - both were excellent. We then ordered a main each - Beyti and Adana, again excellent, can’t say enough about how delicious it was. Two starters, two mains and one beer £47 so really well priced. We’ll be back!

First time visiting this lovely restaurant. They squeezed us in last minute tonight and the food was amazing. Service even better, waitresses helped us decide when ordering and the chilli sauce is spot on if you like a kick to your food!

We went for a birthday meal and weren't the only table celebrating a friend's 50th! It was packed for 7.30 on a Friday night and we were a little concerned that might affect the service. We didn't need to worry - the service was efficient and friendly. The food was well prepared - my stuffed vine leaves starter was great - though a little less yoghurt dressing would have improved it but better too much than too little. Main of chicken kebab rice and vegetables was generous and succulent. Desserts very limited to ice cream and baklava but not everyone had the capacity - baklava were gorgeous and it would have been good to have tried more of the turkish delight - but only one guest received that. Great value for money.

Visited this restaurant for a family birthday celebration and the food was good, service was good and not a bad atmosphere. However background music was a little loud for me personally but it wouldn’t stop me from going back. Defiantly recommend this place even the one at Gleadless was brilliant

Just 3 little things stopped this being a 5 star review. Guys fix your front door it doesn't close properly and made for quite a draft when it didn't get shut properly, loos though clean have a brown mineral build up in the bowls throw some white wine vinegar down them over night and finally the only really substantial issue is at £20.50 a bottle the quality of Chardonnay didn't match the price.

Decided on a quick meal out last minute on Friday evening. The restaurant is only 5 minutes drive for us and they fitted us in with short notice. Friendly staff and served quickly..... Efes beer could have been a little bit colder but hey ho..... food was ok, Borek started was over cooked but the Turkish sausage was lovely. The Keenan mains were what you would expect and very tasty. Meal 4 two and 2 rounds costs 65 quid which was acceptable... overall a nice meal in a friendly environment but not worth a 5 star rating tbh...

Attended a friends birthday party at Elif after reading some decent reports. Very disappointed with the standard of service. Booked for 7 and got told to leave at 8:45 as next booking had arrived! Main course served whilst still eating the starter and left on the table. Staff became rather rude when it was pointed out that he was not told he would have to leave before 9. Plenty of alternative places to eat in these parts, I know 9 people who won't be booking again.

The way we were hurried out of the restaurant tonight was appalling. I’ve had good food and good experiences before, but there’s no way in a million years I’d recommend that place now. Just terrible. Bringing the food out so fast that you don’t have chance to enjoy it is awful. Nobody said when we booked that we needed to be out by a certain time, or else I simply would not have booked the meal. A waste of £200. Actually can’t believe how bad it was tonight.

We booked & visited on Friday night. We seated with a warm welcome. We had drinks & shared a bottle of wine. Starters & mains were excellent. The service was lovely & warm

Arrived and quickly seated. Ordered drinks and food. Both which was served promptly. The food was amazing. The only down side was we asked for coffee after we had finished our delisious meal, but was told that the coffee machine was broken. Didn't spoil any thing as the food was fabulous but would have rounded off the night.

Restaurant was full but we were served very efficientlyx The atmosphere was lovely and staff also. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked.

Great food but the owner needs to think long and hard about videoing customers without their permission, as they did Saturday night for 25 mins and then post on Facebook, in this day of data protection they could find themselves in court

Came here for my birthday and it was really good .. service one point and the food is second to none highly recommend I'll definitely be coming back.

The food is outstanding and the staff are friendly and accommodating. We haven't been for a while but it is still the best restaurant in wickersley

Excellent food outstanding service we had our Christmas work.party here and all the food was cooked fresh we were a party of 40 and no one was left waiting to eat. The staff were fantastic they were all happy and got us up dancing every staff member joined in and danced with us the best works party in 12 years thanks guys

The portions are not for the faint hearted, you probably don't need a starter but there are so many good ones you can't refuse! Friendly staff very attentive. Lovely choice of food all cooked fresh and so tasty.
