El Mexicana in South Cambridgeshire

Family collected a vegetarian regular burrito and sweet potato fries whilst they got themselves a KFC. Being vegetarian El Mexicana has always been my favourite fast food option …. However, after their new shake up I will never use them again. According to my daughter who ordered food, there were so many limited options - no refined beans, no onions and peppers, no lettuce, only one sauce so couldn’t have sour cream and salsa which is the norm. Apparently burrito had veg chilli in it, but after inspecting it all I found was a few kidney beans. Ended up with a very small tortilla wrap with rice and black beans mixed with sour cream. No flavour, wet, no substance and a fraction of the size of normal. Size wasn’t a problem as it ended up in the bin! Sweet potatoes were burnt and portion measly. El Mexicana used to be the best Mexican and vegetarian fast food around, but unless they revert back to how they were I won’t go back. Disgusting food. Terrible options. Poor service. Poor portion control. Needs a major shake up!

I've always enjoyed food from ElMexicana at Cambridge, so headed straight there. Disappointed this time though. I think the member of staff was having a bad day, as there was minimal interaction and no friendliness. Because I eat a plant based diet I asked if I could have a little guacamole instead of cheese, sour cream etc. The answer was a surly "no". Sorry El Mexicana, you ended up missing out on the sale of a whole.meal (plus the food you'd started preparing and then couldn't sell( for the cost of a teaspoon of guacamole

If I could I would give No stars!! We go to Al-Mexican weekly going via Cambridge services now Bosworth We like the simple large nachos- when the girl serves she is lovely service and generous portion. Today & few weeks back, the male( easten European guy) awful, terrible manners and his totally disengaged and I told him please give extra cheese- no consideration, then 1-line of sour cream hardly any salad or chilly paste. I reminded him every week we take the same order why so less… totally not listening, saying I will get burritos, I said NO don’t bother. We usually spend £12-£15 today only £4.10 This person is not bothered- he doesn’t understand with our us the customers he will have no job!!! There are several food places, yet we choose Al-Mexican Anyway really cheesed-off and will not go again!! I wanted to complain while leaving but their queue was long!!

Having just visited your Cambridge Services outlet I feel I must contact you. This visit was not Covid Safe and it was not anywhere near the food hygiene standards I would expect. I was 2nd in the queue and the one person that was working was serving the person in front of me. At no time did he wash his hands I between serving her, taking her payment and then preparing my food. I ordered Large Wings (well done), large churros and a large burrito. The server went out back and put my wings and churros in the fryer, again no handwashing taking place. He started to prep my burrito. By the time he got to putting peppers ans onions on it I noticed his belly was touching my food and his t shirt was covered in Refried beans which he had just put in my burrito. I asked if he would prepare me another one as I did not want his dirty belly touching my food. As soon as he took the tortilla off the toaster he put it on the side, he then filled up the peppers and onions and when doing do rubbuWhen doing so rubbed his belly on my burrito AGAIN! 1st times an error but 2nd time after I told him to keep his belly away from my food is damn right unhygienic. I cancelled my entire order. I do not want Covid from this man that is spreading it by not washing his hands. And I don't want food poisoning caused by the cross contamination of the servers belly touching my food.

Ordered a wrap with chicken but it was barely warm let alone hot, I dont think it's safe to sell lukewarm chicken

We passed by, on our way home. Not wanting to go for the unhealthy and not filling well known brand we decided to go for Mexican food. My daughter is veggie and we opted for a regular burrito and a Box one. A friendly lady prepared our rolls, with all ingredients we wanted. Your own choice what is in it. El Mexicana appears very clean and the food is prepared with gloves on (new gloves every customer. Very hygienic. We had a good quick dinner. Will surely not hesitate to return. It obviously is a 'bite on the go', so don't expect to have an experience like a restaurant, which none of the snackbars offer.

This was my second visit to the outlet, and it was if anything slightly better organised a year or so on. There were three staff members on shift, and rather than "doing stations," each server took the customer from start to finish with the order preparation. This made for faster service as the cashier wasn't waiting for the salad filler, who wasn't waiting for the order taker (as sometimes happens at places such as Subway). I had a vegetarian burrito with refried beans, rice, fried onions and peppers, sour cream, salsa and cheese. It was generous in portion, and very tasty. Though I didn't have them, there were also jalapenos and hot sauce on offer as well. Very good value.

For fast food, this is excellent. I had the burrito, and actually went for 'the beast' - which was far too much food! It is served in a foil wrap which you peel away as you eat. The coffee was not great however.

I have personally worked within a Mexican restaurant before and I must say, Wow!!! Service was great all round and the food was as I would expect from a restaurant. Its been a long time since I've had a Mexican that I could boast about. Shame I live in the North East or I would visit more often. Top food guys 😊😁👍

We stopped in for a break on our way home from Huntingdon, and found this to be a tasty option. We had a vegetarian burrito with rice, guacamole, cheese, and salsa, and some really nicely topped nachos. There was a bit of a queue, but worth the wait. The portion size was fairly good value as well.

Had the tacos with 3 different fillings. Very tasty and would definitely recommend the lime rice. I opted for the mild salsa and to be honest I didn't feel any heat from it. Well presented and great taste.

It’s great to see so much choice in service stations now. Although it takes quite a while to go through the questions that you’re posed with when ordering a dish here, the outcome is good tasting grub full of flavour. I had large nachos with a mix of fillings. Was excellent and I wouldn’t hesitate to use it again. A very convenient ovation when travelling from Norwich.

Never really tried this outlet before was an impromptu visit very enjoyable and made a change from the normal fast food offerings in the same location - food was very well presented, hot and appetising

It is located in Cambridge services on A14 and I visit this place regularly. Staff are very welcoming. Nachos are my usual choice.

Staying in the Days Inn at Boxworth services, the meal options are limited to the various fast food restaurants in the Service Station. I opted to try El Mexicana.
