Dough & Oil in Shropshire

Six of us went here for an early evening meal before working at the theatre. Place was rammed so they took our number and we went to their sister bar opposite and had drinks whilst waiting for a free table. 30 mins later we sat outside for our pizza, and it was well worth the wait. Superb quality food, we had a few different pizzas and they were all fantastic. My Philo one with nduja sausage was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. Nice beers to go with it too. Staff were great despite being run off their feet. Definitely a place I’d highly recommend.

10/10. We came 2 years ago and it was the best pizza we ever had, so when we were staying close by (approx 45 mins away) we came again to see if it was as good as we remembered. Somehow it was better than last time. Can’t complain about anything, keep up the great work.

It’s not often I go to a restaurant and feel so genuinely impressed by the customer service but I had to put something about my experience on Saturday. The server (it says Poppy on my bill) was really welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. She was able to answer any questions I had about allergies and was cheerful the whole time of our visit. The food was amazing and topped off with great service, thank you.

Amazing!!! Popped in asking for a table of which there was a wait no problem name down and they’ll ring us back. Beer time Popped across to oil (ale house) across the road fantastic beer especially if your into your ales 👏🏻 Was concerned as phone signal was pretty poor downstairs so I asked after about 30 mins if the table was ready unfortunately not! No problem they said we’ll come over and find you and 10 mins later they found us! Apologised for the wait no worries! I ordered the one I think it’s called 🤔 anyway 🤩 🤩 the best pizza I’ve had in a very long time. Forget your bog standard takeout pizza rubbish this goes to the next level. A sourdough pizza base, cooked to perfection reminded me of the base we had in Greece much like a naan bread texture. No sauce base!!! 👀 yes however it actually works using the ingredients such as the yoghurt, pomegranate, lamb, jalapeño (as they had no 🌶️ and coriander. It was amazing!! Unreal Friends had the Thai and Mac and cheese with bacon 🤩 again amazing. If you want the Mac and cheese and think it’ll be too much have the kids pizza and the Mac perfect amount. Price point was spot on large pizza one pint cane to roughly £19-20. Great place! Apologies tho we forgot to leave a tip as we all went Dutch this was by no means a reflection on the food and service as this was exceptional! We’ll be back!!!!

Delicious Pizza with great staff & atmosphere

This place has now become a staple for me and my partner, the food is always beautiful and the vibe is incredible. 10/10

So I had my details added to the call back list as there was nothing immediately available and was told it would be about a 30 mins wait. Had a walk around town and went back 40 mins later as I had not received a call, only to find out my name had been crossed off the list. Staff couldn't explain how that happened. Hickories had my money instead.

We had such a great time in this restaurant. Staff arranged better table for 4 of us plus baby, highchair were provided as well.Pizzas were delicious. Highly recommend this place.

I have been here a few times and experienced lovely customer service, as well as the food, but this time not so much. When walking through the door to be seated, we were greeted with an unhappy employee who had a moustache and chin hair, who later served us. Food was practically thrown at us, became impatient and demanding when deciding how many sauces I wanted, and only seemed to be in a good mood when we wanted the bill. Food was amazing, just abit disappointed with the service.

So good we came back the second night of our trip to Shrewsbury! Incredible food great service and very reasonable prices. Definitely one to recommend and will come back when we next visit.

I have wanted to try dough and oil for a while. I had planned this week to get takeaway whilst I waited for my son to finish his activity in the town. So at around 5:30 on Friday I went in with my daughter and ordered threw pizza's. The blonde lady with a fringe checked with the chefs if they could do three pizza's which they said they could. I paid, left my name and was told to return in 30 minutes. So I returned after having collected my son, arriving at 6:10 (so having given an extra 10 minutes to prepare my food). I went inside and was ignored by numerous staff. The man with dark wavy hair, styled like curtains told me "I'll get to you in a bit" in a somewhat blunt manner. I overlooked this, it was busy, I appreciate people can be short when stressed. After 5 minutes of waiting he asked me if he could help. I explained I had placed an order for 3 pizza's and stated my name. He then began looking on various screens. Then he walked behind the counter and started talking to the chefs. It was obvious that my order hadn't been placed, but no-one explained this to me. I waited, still nothing. The man with curtains then began dealing with some issue on the phone. Each time he caught my eye he just gave an irritated look. I mean how dare I wait for the pizza's I have ordered and paid for. Then after about 10 minutes he approached me and told me "that'll be £39.95" I explained I'd already paid, he just walked off. I then after another few moments of being ignored and no explanation said I would need to go and move my car. I went and moved my car, returned to the store with two children in tow. This time the man with dark curtained hair ignored me. The lady who originally served me then asked what I needed. Again I explained that I had ordered pizza at 5:30 (by this point we were at around 6:25), she then asks my name, darts off and produces 3 pizza's. She then walks off. There was no apology or anything, or explanation. Absolutely horrendous service - treated as though I was nothing, expected to pay twice and given no explanation. Just left waiting with two children who at the point of leaving were very upset. The pizza was okay, but I won't return, I've had better service in fast food restaurants

Such a lovely little spot. We stupidly didn't make a booking so we popped to their sister bar across the road for a drink whilst we waited (worth it) The pizzas were great and the champion was the mac and cheese, nearly a week and we're still talking about it. 10/10 definitely recommend.

Banging pizzas, swift friendly service. Ok selection of alcohol, nice ipa, fair price. However! I wasnt presented with a bill, just a card machine with total on. CBA to ask for one. I would've tipped but assumed there was a service charge.

Great place. Can't book so be prepared to wait and be called when your table is ready. Sourdough Pizza is possibly the best I've tasted in the UK. Great atmosphere, perfect for friends or family.

Best Pizza in Shropshire by some distance! Just lovely

Good vibes and a cool restaurant. However it can get very overwhelming with all the background noise. The times I’ve been, it’s taken quite a long time to be served. One time it took over an hour, I just think there seems to be a period where the workers are really stressed and it gets busy. Their pizza is nice though :)

After having a previous fantastic pizza experience we felt on this occasion the standard had slipped. The pizza arrived with no cutlery or napkins. We did need cutlery as the pizza was soggy in the middle so would have been messy to eat with your hands. We felt the Pizza toppings were sparse compared to previous ones, certainly didn’t feel good value for money. Something seems to have happened/changed that has dramatically impacted on Dough & oil. I hope this isn’t a slippery slope downhill.

The most amazing pizzas! A short wait to be seated as all tables occupied yet excellent service considering how busy they were - no food intolerances so absolutely no issue with menu choices. In fact service and food was exceptional for what is a very popular eatery in the town - can highly recommend if you don't walk in expecting to be seated immediately - it is well worth the wait for a table!

Pretty trendy pizza place but wasn’t amazed by it. The atmosphere was nice but very loud with fans going nonstop. The pizza itself was alright but not good enough to warrant a return trip here. I know that oil is in the name but I wasn’t expecting the ridiculous levels of oil on this pizza. The service was slow but very friendly, I don’t want to mark them down too much here because there were only two members of staff doing all the service for a full restaurant. Overall it wasn’t great but it wasn’t bad at all. If you’re a fan of this oily cheesy pizza it’s well worth a visit but it wasn’t to my taste.

Some of the best pizza I’ve had in ages and a solid selection of beer to wash it down too. The lads serving were a friendly bunch and the food came in good time. Would recommend their sister bar, Oil, as well (just across the road).

Really cool place, good atmosphere. We were given water literally as we were sat which I was impressed with. The staff were all really friendly and helpful, the food was amazing. Definitely coming here again

Super delicious sourdough based pizzas. Craftsmanship 1a. There are even vegan and vegetarian pizzas. The service staff is super friendly and attentive. The ambience has a bit of a "diner" touch with modern elements.

Got told about this place by a friend so we chanced a walk in. The pizzas are fantastic and I loved the decor in the restaurant.

Stumbled upon this little gem whilst waiting to go ghost hunting at the prison. Delicious Miles Davis and Philipo (pizzas) with a Tommy Gun side, the dough was so good and the whipped feta, yummmm! Lovely staff, we sat outside and soaked up the Saturday night buzz with a Christmas twist. Couldn't have been better, highly recommended!

Excellent food, pizza freshly cooked and very tasty. Also had Mac cheese and breadsticks with feta whip - fabulous and reasonably priced. Service very good and friendly too. Would highly recommend.

I went here with my wife and 2 grandchildren after reading some of the previous reviews. The pizzas were OK but certainly not as good as many of the comments would lead you to believe. We had four different pizzas and they were all quite soggy in the middle. The music they played was also quite loud.

Tasty food, reasonably priced, quick service. We ordered 3 pizzas and a salad plus drinks. It was busy at lunch so we had to sit at bench on stools shared with another family which wasn’t ideal but no other complaints.

We’d passed Dough & Oil a few times when visiting Shrewsbury - normally from or to the train station. For whatever reasons we had opted to give it a miss.. until today. Safe to say that giving it a miss was definitely a major error on our part! We had The Miles Davis pizza and a side of Mac & cheese - both where absolutely fantastic. The pizza was as good as I’ve had anyway other than the very best when in Italy and can genuinely say I don’t think I’ve ever had better Mac & cheese. Safe to say this will be our first choice place to eat when in Shrewsbury in future.

This is the best pizza I have ever had!! You can tell the ingredients are fresh and really good quality, the service was very quick and friendly! Prices are quire reasonable and there are some good sides and drinks available as well as dessert. The design of the place is quite retro and artistic which was fun!

Excellent food, great friendly service, nice chilled music. If you only have one day in Shrewsbury don't eat anywhere else.

I’ve had better pizzas in a place in London. Other that, this is the best I’ve had. They only do pizzas - plus some starters / snacks - and all the effort is on the main thing. Design is kind or urban. Staff are great. Try it.

If you love pizza this is the place for you! It's got a young 'vibe'. Probably because of the fact that the staff were so young? Food was hot. I go after work as often as I can.

One of the nicest pizzas I've had. The nduja was spicy and plentiful, complemented perfectly with the picante peppers. Gorgeous.

We ordered takeout and it was wonderful! Delicious pizza ~ their gluten free is handmade and fired as well ; my coeliac boyfriend said it was one of the best pizzas he’s ever had. Wonderful selection to suit everyone.

We were on holiday in Shrewsbury and went for pizza! The pizza was absolutely delicious 😋 staff were so helpful and approachable! Highly recommend it if you want the tasty pizza ever! Apparently, the Sourdough ice cream is absolutely amazingly scrumptious but we did not get the chance to try it! Is it possible to get vegan sourdough ice cream!?

Nowhere to fault. Came here with my partner for a special dinner and was blown away by the food, atmosphere and service. The staff is friendly and kind, food incredible and overall feel one I can’t recommend enough. Looking forward to the next time we come here!!

Super cute spot. Lovely friendly staff. It was pretty late in the evening but they couldn't have been more welcoming. Big Fish pizza was very tasty, crust was perfect. Could have eaten another bowl of the salad! Very reasonable for the amount of food we got. Good quality ingredients.

My recent visit to the pizza place was an absolute delight! A group of friends and I shared three pizzas, and each one was a flavour explosion that left us craving more. The dough was fluffy and light, the hallmark of a perfect pizza base that melted in our mouths with every bite. What made the experience even more enjoyable was the fresh salad served alongside the pizzas. The crisp greens, combined with a delightful dressing, perfectly balanced the richness of the pizzas. Cocktails were so refreshing and enjoyable, the perfect companion to our pizza feast. I highly recommend trying the Margarita. As if all that deliciousness wasn't enough, the real surprise came with dessert – sourdough ice cream. Yes, you read that right, sourdough ice cream! It sounded intriguing, and it did not disappoint. The unique flavour profile of the sourdough added a delightful twist to the classic treat. It was simply amazing and definitely worth a try! The staff was friendly and made the experience even better. Highly recommended!

Been coming for a couple of years now, most of the staff are still the same - which is always a good sign. As someone who also works in hospitality, it's nice to eat somewhere that just get it. (Believe me there isn't many places like this left outside of London) Food slaps, service is great, ever changing specials menu, good beer/wine selection. Solid foundation of Shrewsbury's food scene. Don't change!

Having been to this pizza restaurant previously we were looking forward to our second trip. What a let down :-( Customer service nil. Staff rushed off their feet running between their new bar over the road named Oil. Waited 40 minutes to place order after I had to remind them that we were still waiting. Waited 25 minutes on drinks - again needed reminding that we were still waiting. Pizzas were delicious - chefs never stopped and appeared to be working flat out. Tried to pay and couldn’t get anyone to bring our bill to the table. Eventually managed to pay our bill and leave. Will not be back. Some staff quite rude and off hand. Seems that they have opened the bar across the road but not got enough staff to run both?!? X

Always wanted to try this place. It was amazing, we absolutely loved it. Service was fab, dog welcome (even offered some treats), decor so cool, milkshakes to die for but more importantly, THE best pizza we have ever tasted - finally a place who knows how to cook it! 100% win for us!

Can't even get in door. Horrid customer services. Fancy sh*t. Where's the normal pizza's at. Always too busy and cramped too I never can get in the place! Seems ran by students too. Kids! 🙄 Much prefer Fireaway in Shrewsbury for pizza. No frozen bases and always delicious italian pizza with lots options. Fireaway you need not here. 🍕 Bellisimo 🤌

Waited an hour to be seated after being told 30 mins, then had to wait another hour for our food that was nice but arriving at 7:15 and not eating until 9:20 had already ruined the evening for me and my date. The waiters weren’t very accommodating and their rushed attitude made us feel unwelcome.

Impossible to get a table. Tried 5 times now and never any free and no option to book in advance. I just want a pizza! Always need a back up place in mind when thinking about coming here which is no fun

Superb "The Catch" pizza with smoked salmon and garlic butter, chilli and lots of other toppings. Great, prompt service, even though we were a large group

Very unaccommodating to my friend who has Coeliac disease. We checked online and it said they did do gluten free pizzas. We called to double check it was in stock and they said their supplier went bankrupt so they no longer had the gluten free bases. We asked if they had any other options like sides etc, and the server on the phone said they only had a side salad. We asked if, as we were a party of 6 and the person with the medical condition would still be drinking, whether they could bring their own food but the owner and head chef both said no. They offered for her to bring her own base (where from? At her own cost?) and they would cook it, but later changed their mind as the head chef didn’t want anything they hadn’t approved in the kitchen. We found those on the phone quite rude and just unaccommodating. It felt like an inconvenience that she had a medical condition. I understand issues with suppliers, but surely it isn’t too hard to have some gluten free flour on hand? And the kitchen has to work with other allergens presumably, like nuts or dairy… Really sad to write this as have previously enjoyed the food here, but I won’t go back now even though I myself can eat from their menu.

I personally hate mac and cheese, but the one served here is different, it is so beautiful. Servers are lovely too #slay !

So disappointing to say because the food is so nice but experienced such awful customer service the last few times we’ve visited. Tonight we went early at 6pm before it got too busy. Ordered 2 pizzas and drinks which were lovely, but let down when it came to paying. Despite asking no one bought our bill over, we went to the bar downstairs where we were ignored by two staff members and the one girl just pushed past as we spoke to her. Then tried to pay upstairs and asked the 3 girls working if we could pay, and yet again no response or acknowledgment to the point we had to ask if they actually worked there. Eventually paid but felt like walking out seeing as they had no interest in interacting. Please hire some friendly staff so we can continue enjoying delicious pizza!

Regular customer with no problems in the past. However despite being assured that they could cater for a friend who is coeliac when we rang to book they advised they did not offer gf. Rude staff who were not interested in helping. Wont return due to the offhand way we were treated.

I have always loved Dough and Oil and I am really disappointed to have to write this review. For 2 months now Dough and Oil have not been able to give me ‘gluten free’ pizza on the basis that they have a supplier issue. Unfortunately I struggle to see the issue with buying gluten free flour. Very disappointed.

Wonderful pizza place, tasty pizza, cool atmosphere.

We had a lovely dinner here last weekend. The food was amazing and very affordable. The atmosphere was great and we sat outside under our own heater and that kept us warm enough. Good selection of drinks including craft beers

The place was amazing. I had to go back for dinner again the next day!!! Pizza ls are incredible, desserts were great. The rubarb and custard ice cream is a must try item. Very modern decor. Great staff and a small downstairs music venue.

I've been to Dough and Oil many times and have usually had a positive experience but today was beyond awful. We popped into the restaurant just before 5.00pm and nobody was around to greet us other than the chefs who were busy preparing food so...
