Dolphin always has banging food and you can order online and collect - which is a real plus! Great classic fish and chip shop and very affordable so would definitely recommend!

This is truly the crown jewel of Selly Oak. I've eaten at a lot of fish bars, and I can honestly say that this one is the best I have been to. Their battered cod in particular is consistently top-quality—flaky textured, flavoursome, and perfectly crisp batter (they even gave me some scraps when I asked). There is almost never any food in the display; they appear to cook to order, which is great. The staff here are lovely and all seem to genuinely enjoy working together. They manage busy Friday evenings with ease & smiles. Prices are very good too, especially considering their generous portions (see photos of mini cod). I'm moving out, and I'll really miss this place— it's absolutely worth a visit if you're passing through Birmingham.

No real co-ordination. Can’t be relied upon to have everything you ordered. Waited 10mins over the 25mins they said my order would take. Then they realised they had no kebab! They were more than happy to accept my order and take payment, but when I politely asked how much longer would my order take, I was met with a barrage of abuse. They seem to think everyone else has an issue and they do nothing wrong. Unfortunately your recollection of events is inaccurate. It was the tone of which the server used. “I’m doing it Now!” Rather than, sorry for the delay, I’m preparing your order now. It is quite obvious your staff are in need of training and I mean this in the most constructive way possible. With regards to substitutes your staff offered, I can confirmed they did, however, when I declined, I did sense dissatisfaction from their response and when I asked for a refund, which was kind of what you had to do, they looked surprised Im not sure if you recall, but some time ago, I returned to your shop, after I realised your staff had under charged me and I called your shop and left a message informing you I would return so you could take the correct amount. I remember clearly it was you I spoke to when I returned. I hope this clears up any misrepresentation of my character when others read this review Furthermore, I note you and other members of your staff were complaining about other customers, so I’m not the only one who had issues on this day.

Great customer service, food is always tasty and fresh, clean establishment, portions decent and price point right. Thats the key to keep and retain custom- so rare now and many of the over hyped and often rubbish /surly service local food establishments locally could learn a lesson from a humble chippy thats doing it right!

I’ve been here a few times now. Service is great, staff are very friendly with smiles when serving you. The food is lovely and hot, fresh food is always great. Glad to have a chippy like this around here. Would highly recommend.

Ate from here years ago whilst passing early evening and it was good. March 23 passed through the area at lunchtime on a week day and ordered small doner meat well done with chips, salt and vinegar on chips, just lemon juice on the meat. Ate outside and it was a blast from the past. The meat had no junk in it that we all have experienced in the last 20 odd years. Been twice since including two days ago and you can’t beat the quality anywhere in the midlands, the chips and meat are perfect . I will continue to make lunchtime detours as and when I get the craving, but may regret this review if it gets too popular 🤓

A fabulous fish bar, staff a great very quick and efficient always o the ball. The food is always cooked great and I travel to go there for these reasons.

Best fish and chips ever. Always cooked fresh so may have to wait but its always 11/10 along with the southern fried chicken. The staff on the front are so lovely and hard working. Despite always being busy, they always remain professional, friendly, and calm under the pressure.

Got chips, literally the best I’ve ever had, cheap and big portion. No minimum card spend and loads of options including vegan pies and kid’s meals. Prices are all good and the food was served fast.

This has been local and closest chippy for years although I often try other chippies but lately I have to say that they have been totally on point, surpassing all the other favourites.. the fish has been absolutely beautiful the last few times I've had it. Amazing. Thanks guys!

nice food, the chips were really delicious. the food wasn't fried specifically for me, it was all stacked in the heated tray, so there's no way to tell how long it's been there for. all the staff was average, not very welcoming or happy to be working. the place is average, I didn't really get to see much cause I got a takeaway.

Got in before closing time. Fish and Chips is £6.80 with curry sauce. It's very tasty, hot and filling. This is a good place for takeaway.

Food is good but the way that management treat their staff and customers sometimes is a disgrace. I've seen management mocking staff behind their backs before and being rude to customers about food they had not ordered upon entry. It is a shame because the food is very good

Not been to Dolphin fish bar for a while saved up to have it as a treat. We had Haddock and chips the Haddock was nice but the chips were brown and some were hard looked like they was over done. Bit of a disappointment being as they cost me £21.

Given 2 mini fish and large chips and a large fish and mini chips. The order was 1 mini 2 large and was short changed by 20 pence. Shame food was ok.would think twice before going there again.

I came here as to treat my friend after I had came to visit her for the day and therefore had ordered us both a mini fish and chips and had to hold myself up to prevent myself from collapsing with the price of £6.40 each so a total of £12.80. Yes I understand cost of living has gone up but at that price I could have done a decent shop at my local supermarket. Mine had came with the curry sauce which was quite salty tasting and although the fish was tasty unfortunately I won't be in a rush to hurry back

Always my preferred chip shop for a long time,the fish is very tasty but found since the price hike the portions have got a lot smaller,scallops never available,maybe a tactic so you spend more,chips don’t taste as good as they did,fish was very nice but very small,not much bigger than a mini fish elsewhere,always have to wait for fish ,surely they could have a few ready on a busy night knowing they would sell quickly,phone orders always seem to take preference,no longer my place of choice,no value for money,long wait,but they will carry on doing well as only chip shop in area,nothing special,you can also taste the other foods on chips big no no for vegetarians and vegans,and even pescatarians

Was really disappointed with the service from older women working at lunch time on Thursday 30th march. I asked for chicken meat and chips and she did me donner meat. When I said I asked for chicken meat she was rude and said no I hadn’t and refused to change it saying she had already done it now. This was such a shame as the normal service from the other blonde haired lady when I go in on a Tuesday lunch time is exceptional.

We rarely eat fish and chips but when we do it's always Dolphin. As fresh as it comes, great prices and great service. How the ladies manage to turn out so many orders is a wonder to behold!

Visited for the first time today, whilst in the area. The cod, chips and mushy peas were superb and the best I’ve had. Staff were very busy but so helpful and friendly. I’ll definitely be returning. Would highly recommend

Lovely fish and chips, tasty curry sauce, really nice chicken tika wraps too. Chips are always fresh and fluffy, the fish batter is nice and crispy none of that soggy uncooked batter. Friendly staff, the click and collect is great too

Omg my Father has just been to the Dolphin fish Bar to get me mini fish and chips and mushy peas, what a mistake because even through the food is always nice and up to standards, he has just bought me a free tester of their new chicken curry and i could kick my because it was absolutely beautiful and next time i visit the Dolphin fish bar im definitely getting some chicken curry and small chips, shame they didn't start doing small tubs of rice with the curry and chips. Roll on tomorrow because that's a Chicken Curry better than i have had from anywhere before. Ps all the best on your new Chicken curry sales.

Really tasty fish and chips, the chips are not soggy at all, they are fluffy and full of flavour. The cod fish is delicious! The batter to cod ratio is very balanced. The people serving are wonderful, friendly and hardworking.

Really tasty fish and chips. Good portion and good service. Was impressed with the quality being so far form the sea / coast. Was impressed especially being from an area a bit closer to the sea and holiday destinations.

Had kebab on pitta bread more saled than kebab chips were ok not the best as the eyes had not been taken out the potatoes pie and chips same with the chip most of it went in the bin very poor which is not the norm for them to be honest

We moved from Selly Oak 5 years ago and always used this chippy. We moved to great Barr and apparantly the chippy by the Beeches pub is supposed to be the best in Birmingham. Afraid not people, we visited a friend in selly oak today so popped in the Dolphin to get our dinner, even taken back to Great Barr and reheated in the microwave, the fish, pie and chips are as good as we remember, this chippy is the best we have ever eaten from. If they could move to Great Barr that would be brilliant 😂

Excellent service. We went at lunchtime with an order for 13 meals. Louise who served us was great, very organised with our order.. even wrote our names on to make it easier back at work. Food tasted lovely, all freshly cooked. Big thank you from the staff at Cadbury Dental Practice

Prices are absolutely ridiculous I have been to a lot high quality chip shops and not been charged as much as I have heat every year the prices go up and the portions get smaller you have a lot of loyal customers stop ripping them off because you no they will pay it .

The best Cod & Chips in Brum 15/08. Sadly on the last 2 occasions on having a large cod & chips. The cod batter has been burnt. I live 2.1 miles away and make the trip only to get it from here. I hope I will not be disappointed again and will be checking before I go

Best chippy in area by a mile. Highly recommend this place if you want fresh, flavoursome food and good service. I visit regularly for family Friday night takeaway and unfortunately it was not open this evening due to bank holiday so used another establishment that had great google reviews which I found hard to believe once I tasted the food. Everyone in household agreed that it wasn’t a patch on The Dolphin.

Superb cod, last time I tasted fish as good was fresh from the sea in lands end cornwall.

Heard good things about this place so went to try it. Waited for server to finish conversation with customer. WHEN finished I was totally ignored and after waiting approx 5 minutes feeling invisible I walked out but had a lovely chinese from next door I thought customer service was priority obviously not in this place

Good afternoon We ordered 2 chicken and chips . Chicken was great. Chips was poor. Service was poor. £7-00 then 80p for sauce. Personal opinion give this chippy a miss over priced average food.

Usually really good. The food cannot be faulted. How I have ordered a large mushy pea today and have emphasized several time during the waiting that I have ordered the LARGE sized and been charged the large sized as well. However, when I opened it at home, it is small. Bit of frustrating. It is not a busy Friday night, but Tuesday.

Has to be one of the best chippys in bham, staff always friendly, most importantly food allways hot at a very reasonable price. Me and family have been using for over 15 years. Very consistent with good hygiene!

Fabulous the fish and chips were cooked fresh at a very reasonable price. The fish was soft and melt in the mouth in a lovely crispy batter. Fully Recommend and will be going again. Prices just gone up a small amount
