Dockshack in Isle of Anglesey

Arrived close to closing time - and asked about their gluten free options as the other half needs to avoid wheat/pea flours and was shown the flour bag to confirm precisely what's in the batter (the place up the street didn't know / couldn't tell us what theirs was). Then was warned that it would be a wait (till the separate fryer warmed up). Couldn't have asked for nicer service and more welcoming staff - and while I waited past closing time they did a steady trade so hopefully they forgive us the late evening. The chips and fish were great and my mushy peas too - we'll definitely use them again when visiting the area.

Good chippy right in the centre of beaumaris. Portion sizes are huge! Dog friendly too with lots of seating available in side

Returned after a year and still great fish and chips! Will return again soon!

Wrong time of year to eat in, should have just had a takeaway

I feel ill after eating here, the fish wasn't bad after taking it out of the batter, my mistake for eating the next to inedible burnt hard oily chips and batter though, because I was hungry. Don't recommend.

Really yummy food and dog friendly!

We ordered (for takeaway) 4 large chips, 6 large fish and 2 jumbo sausage. The total cost was £78. Chips and sausage were ok. Fish was the worst we have ever had from a chippy. The portion size was more like normal than large. The fish itself was over cooked and rubbery. We had to throw most of it away. I suspect it was simply battered frozen fish which they cooked in the fryer. To add insult to injury, the fish cost £9.50 per portion! Extremely poor value for money and poor quality. Needless to say, we won’t be returning and would suggest you look elsewhere if you want good quality, good value food.

Selfish and inconsiderate behaviour of staff, partying with loud music in the shop until 4am Monday morning. Perhaps they could consider the effect on local businesses (namely guests staying at the Bull and Townhouse opposite). I certainly couldn’t now recommend that as a place to stay, even though it was wonderful, having been kept awake until 4am. Shameful.

Only had some chips but they were excellent. Staff were friendly. There was a bit of a wait as we went in on a Thursday afternoon and they cooked our food fresh.

The worst fish and chips I've ever had. Disgusting and expensive. The seagulls were very lucky that day. Never again.

Excellent fresh haddock and non greasy or soggy chips. Bit pricey but around the going rate.

Very poor effort considering this is a seaside establishment you would Expect to be leading the pack…. However chips were old and tired curry sauce was cold and the fish was more undercooked batter than fish… very disappointing meal the high prices are clearly Paying for the hip Interior rather than in quality of produce… the money would be better spent on an experienced chef!!

5 of us called in about 6.20pm young lad on his own but cafe us excellent fish and scampi and chips, was polite and efficient, lots of people followed us and he didnt get stressed. Hope the boss appreciates him.

Decent fish and chips at a reasonable price.

I x large cod plus one small cod and chips for £27. Eat-in meals were passed over counter in a cardboard box, wooden knife, no forks available, no sauces at table and all salt sellars too damp to shake. Asked for additional batter but none arrived. Premises are being run by young kids with no concept of customer service and value for money Rubbish!!!

Really enjoyed the fish and chips, I'm fussy when it comes to chips really loved them,the fish smelled of the sea.

Popped in and saw a bit of a queue, but we were only ordering two reg chips, sausage and fish cake. The lady on the till was very polite and the food was very nice and well presented when we eventually got it, but I was not prepared for the 20min wait, which I thought was a really long time for such a small order. Will try other chippy next time to compare wait time.

Great chippy with plenty of seating available with the added bonus of allowing dogs. Staff are really polite and helpful. Food is well cooked and the fish is beautiful. Plenty of different fish available on the menu like cod, haddock, plaice, whitebait and salmon fishcakes. Highly recommend.

Had others in Beaumaris but popped in for lunch and this was excellent. Not greasy, great portions, quick service. Fish was excellent and the chicken nuggets brilliant. Free ketchup and tartar sauce.

Really nice. Great menu choice. Interesting decor. Food always good. Clean. A tad on the expensive side - close to £20 for two adult portions of fish and chips. Edit - sadly cannot recommend this place anymore. Prices have gone through the roof and the standard seems to have fallen.

What a rip off went for a chip bap an a carton of curry £6.30 the chips weren't even that nice don't do chip baps make you buy a bap separately well you definitely can tell there by the sea an I won't be using them again

Absolutely disgusted with the service of this chippy. I asked about a gluten free option and the young lad asked the - well can’t even call you a cook or a chef - but what I will call you is damn right rude and arrogant. You did not even give me the common courtesy of a ‘I am sorry but unfortunately’. You spoke to the young lad asking on my behalf like a piece of dirt where I could hear you. Your arrogance precedes you when you are ADVERTISING GLUTEN FREE options available - if you CANNOT cater for this then STOP advertising it. DONT take it out on your staff or your paying customers you ARROGANT human being. To the staff member who kindly asked for me my advice to you is - get a job somewhere else as you do not deserve to be spoken to in that manner!!!!

Arrived at this chip shop with my mum and asked for gluten free alternative which they have displayed on the board. The cook was very rude to us and his staff and shouted loud for me and my mum to hear that it’s to hard to offer food for gluten free as he’d have to change the oven as he’s been cooking non gluten in that oven/fryer. If he was polite about it and at the time and worded it different we would have understand. However, don’t offer alternative food for others if you can’t provide it when asked for it

Lovely place we were after some halal fish and chips that were also gluten free.(generally quite hard to find) . Lovely member of staff who was very clued up on cross contamination, thankyou 👍

Fast in getting food, the food is quite greasy so if you enjoy that I'd recommend it but if you favour less grease I'd not suggest it. Wide Verity of options . the halloumi fries are what I'd recommend most

The portion sizes are very generous. My cod was cooked perfectly. The batter was delicious. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and appreciate your business. The only thing that I can mark down is the rudeness of other diners in the seating area, but the food and staff are outstanding. I look forward to coming back again.

Lovely fish and chip restaurant and take away. We opted to eat in as they catered for vegetarians. Food was excellent and portion was very good. The curry sauce was particularly good. The only things letting the place down was the speed of the service was a bit slow. And the place was a touch run down. Not sure whether this was to fit the overall vibe or just neglect. But as a place to eat in a beautiful quaint seaside town it was very good.

As near inedible as makes no difference. Rock hard batter, dried-up chips and we didn't get the mushy peas we paid for. Truly awful

Fantastic fish and chips, friendly staff nicely decorated. Just what beumaris needed. Highly recommended. Manager had a chat and even offered a treat for our dog. Look forward to going back.

Chips ok, no problem, fish, smell, both mine and my wife's looked exactly the same, like the frozen supermarket type, asked for curry sauce but it was like curry flavour water, they went in the bin. Probably wouldn't buy from here again. Sorry.

Really great place, wonderful fish and chips with friendly staff serving

It was really poor and very expensive£28 for two fish and chips a curry and peas and three drinks ,the chips were hard and over cooked ,curry sauce was disgusting and not edible I’m sure it was just water fat and a bit of curry powder thrown in at best and finally the peas were nearly white and no taste whatsoever,At least the staff were friendly .

How they can charge £4 for a handful of chips is shocking. The box was half empty! Fish was small . Lovely food spoiled by overpricing and under portioning. Just go to a proper fish and chip shop to avoid disappointment !

Best fish and chips I've had. Perfectly crisp batter and not too heavy or thick. Quality chunky fish. Lovely crispy chips and a good range of extras. Second time we've had it when in Beaumaris :) Only very minor point is that the vinegar didn't taste of anything weirdly!

Went for lunch, gluten free fish and chips and we were allowed to take our three dogs in. Staff were friendly.

We had fish and chips and calamari and chips twice on Saturday 26th May! Fish and chips was ok but the calamari was awful! No batter on it at all just flour! Not sure what had happened to it but it had not been cooked properly! Our first attempt at fish and chips in Beaumaris at the start of our holiday and it was pretty disappointing! Won’t be going back! Young girl who served us was lovely though 👍🏻

We chose to sit in. And were the only ones to do so. Mixed reviews between the 4 of us, but in my option the fish batter was strange and over seasoned. The cod was dry and the chips were over cooked. The peas were hard. In addition, I’ve never been charged for a fork before. When I challenged them, the server made a really deal about giving them for free… We probably won’t return and will go to Neptune's when in Beaumaris.

Beautiful location. Great food, but on the expensive side. Superb service and excellent staff. Nearby beach through the dunes is wonderful.

Arrived 30 mins before closing to be told rather rudely that they weren’t taking any more orders. Save yourself the hassle and go 30 metres up the street to the other chippy.

Drove 40 minutes to get here before closing time at 7pm. We followed a group of around 8 people through the door at 6.25pm with our two young children to be told that the door was closed as they were now closing the queue, which was relatively small. I queried why the people in front of us were not also told us this, as they had arrived in the shop literally 5 seconds before us, and was told rudely that the door had been closed for a reason so we shouldn’t have come in. Would not recommend based on incorrect closing times and the extremely rude customer service.

Price con/Customer service terrible. Queued and asked for large portion of chips which were £3.80 on the board outside the shop & also on the board in the window. Told 'no computer says £4'! So walked out.

Great fish and chips! The restaurant is dog friendly!

We decided to try here after a day at the beach, to finish off with a nice fish and chips on the sea front. My review is very mixed, most of the food was very tasty, fish chips and mushy peas. However, the gravy and curry sauce were like water, the man behind the counter had actually said this while packing it up but still decided to serve it…baffling!! One fish was a decent size but the other the size of a minow. Not a great portion of chips either. For the most expensive chippy we’ve ever been to it was disappointing.

They were kind enough to direct us to a place that may have had more vegan options, unfortunately that place was terrible. The staff here seemed friendly, but the fish isn’t local which seems ridiculous. Would still have rather gotten some basic chips here rather than head to the bistro round the corner. Next time we will grab some chips here

This was lovely fish and chips! Both were cooked perfectly and the fish was fresh and not greasy. The portion of ‘regular’ fish was quite disappointing and the cost is definitely on the toppy side. However, it was very nice.

Really delicious fish and chips, both cooked to perfection crispy and tasty. The vinegar on the table was very watered down. The portion sizes for the price are a bit small But even with those 2 down sides I would come again and it is absolutely delicious

Popped in on a whim as didn't want to cook tonight. Ordered a large fish and chips between the two of us. It was plenty. Loads of good chips, nice big piece of cod in a lovely crisp batter. The mushy peas are different from the usual bright green splat. They are paler, have texture and taste of peas. Nice friendly staff too. Thank you xx

I have given a review of 4 stars 🌟 because on Saturday we had cod n chips (×2) and it was absolutely fabulous. The batter was very thin and crispy , the fish was very tasty and the service was great. Today, Tuesday we went with other family recommending it would be nice for tea. Same order, cod n chips (×4)......but when we got them they were thick in soft wet batter on the fish and two fish were very small and burnt. What a disappointment when we were recommending the Dockshack to others and looking forward to it. I may still go there but possibly the Saturday cooks are better!! Chips on other hand were nice and pretty good value. 👍

Fish chips and peas are delicious. Nice and clean. Your name gets shouted, and you get your own food .

This place should be called cheapskate shack, they charge for cutlery and give you a toothpick type thing to eat with. 40 pence for condiments even for food that should be with condiments. There was just enough seats for the three groups of people that were hungry enough to go there. The chips were obviously unfrozen and mushy and watery inside and the burgers were greasy. I do not recommend.

Extremely long wait, took 20 minutes just to take my order. Total wait time for 45 minutes. Orders for others were forgotten, made wrong or took 30+ mins to be made. Some food was tasty though - the fish isn’t greasy. Would not recommend the fish cake jt is was dry and flat. A disappointing experience overall.

Brilliant fish and chips. Out of all the places overseas I tried getting proper fish and chips at, this cozy little place had THE best. The batter is like a beer batter, the chips were thick and fried perfectly. The fish was nice, lightly sweet and flaky - not the usual mush you find most places! The service was great - very friendly but not overly friendly (if you know what I mean), and the atmosphere was everything one could want from a little fish and chips place in a little town in Wales. It was perfect. Highly recommend going if you want some proper fish and chips and love a laid back atmosphere. Next time I go back to Wales, I will absolutely be coming back to this lovely little establishment.

Great fish and chips very friendly

This place may be rather pricey, however it is 100% worth it. A really stunning, modern interior with a large range of menu options for all families to enjoy. The man serving was extremely nice and was very professional. I had by far the nicest chicken nuggets I've ever eaten before, brilliant and tasty chicken in a delicious batter served with really good quality chips. Overall, probably the nicest place in the whole area to go and eat and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking.

We had a take away today. The fish was the smallest fish I have ever seen! The size of a birds eye fish finger and I’m not joking!!! £8.95!! Expensive, tiny and over cooked. I also asked for beans and got home to discover peas instead. Style over substance. Rubbish.

Chilled, but really just a regular chippy with a modern interior. Coffee option was instant Nescafe or wash it down with a can of Coke. Chips hot and tasty. Large fish £11.50 was ok but no great shakes. Limited tables within. Chuck your boxes in the bin when you are done.

The man who is the frier as be in the job not long, needles I say it probably one of the worst one's iv been in the owners were called & wen they turned up they gave me a refund, it's a rip off chip shop 90% bater 10 % fish i ask for large cod , food out let are starting to rip the general public off, can't believe i waste my time calling in I suggest don't bother calling in video to follow this business is interested in profit not portions the frier who works here would be better cooking in the Gulag

Great place to get some chip shop food. You can eat in on either floor and the menu includes plenty for vegetarians too.

Very busy fish and chip shop, with premises to sit down inside. As well as outside. Not the best fish and chips but the fish was soft.

Thought it was good as dog friendly, but the staff were oblivious to me standing waiting to be served. I ordered 2 x cod chips and 2 teas. Food came in a cardboard box and had to try and eat it with a 2 pronged chip stick. When i asked for a knife and fork i was told they didnt have any. I was too irate to eat it and left the shop in disgust. I dont think the young girls serving had a brain cell between them. I wont be going there again. Very very poor

We each ordered a small portion of chips with a curry sauce to share. The portions were very generous. The chips were lovely and the curry sauce was the best! Love the decor...even the toilets 😁. Lots of seating. Will be going again...

I have wanted to visit this place since it first opened so when my sea food loving 12 year old grandson came to visit us it seemed to be the perfect time to try it out! So we queued for 10 minutes and witnessed the server loudly abuse a customer who was asking for ketchup! This girl was out of her depth and is everything that's wrong with many places in the island. Customer service skills are lacking and the attitude that we are lucky she chooses to serve us is sadly prevalent at many places. Anyway we continued to queue and then it was our turn finally...to be told they were not taking any more orders as they had taken lots of large orders. After giving the girl some advice on communication we went to Neptune who were busy themselves but polite smiley and took our order and it was gorgeous as always. To the Management of Dockshack go and chat to Neptune Management and staff and get some advice on how to run a successful business without alienating your customers.

Chips were amazing. Fish was okay and very small. Pretty expensive for what it was. Service was very slow too, never waited so long for fish and chips before.

Shame to have to write a negative review but this place was not at all up to scratch. Service was slow despite them not being busy at the time. The chips were old and tasted funny, the cheesy chips had an appalling lack of cheese and my calamari was so tough, oily, with "batter"that just came off. I was really looking forward to coming here as a shop owner said it was nice but even everyone in other tables left a substantial bit of food. Dont know if has only recently started to go downhill but for the sake of the business something needs to change. Avoid.

Sunday 10th August. Whilst waiting in the queue for the Circus, my daughter thought she would get us fish and chips from this establishment (approximately 13.15) Upon her return we sat in the castle play area to enjoy our lunch. Upon opening 'MY' box I got an immediate whiff of 'harbour wall' (I should have left it there) . But as I was starving I tucked in, the fish was thick and meaty, and the smell had subsided. We sat down to enjoy the Circus, but very soon my stomach began doing summersaults like the very act in front of me! 4 days later, after being bed bound by liquid diarrhoea and hallucinogenic dreams, I am now able to write this note to you. Please can you check your staff (young mostly) are able to notice a piece of fish that might not look right. If you want to contact me regarding this issue, I welcome your response.

Drove 15 minutes away to a scenic spot to eat to find out the order was mostly wrong and missing the order of gravy and mushy peas. Tried to have a go of what was left and it was just dry with no salt and vinegar on even though it was requested. Just launched it. Ruined the evening. Get a grip on your business you muppets.

A nice place to eat fish and chips .plenty of seating upstairs as well. Ordered fish trips with mush peas and two cups of tea for a total of £26 . Having the heating on a very hot day was completely unessarry and a waste of money .

Fish to chips ratio was a little out of wack, but good service and good (affordable) food!

Cold over cook chips, more crisp than chip, no potato! You'd think the assistants would have some pride in the food they serve. First time at this place, deffenitly the last time!

This place should be called to he Dogshack Because it has no clue how to make food, had the most disgusting fish and chips of my life the batter was strange the chips were burnt you paid £20 of good money and in return you get £1 of rubbish that’s not edible it’s obvious to me the Welsh people in this town have no clue how fish and chips should be. This place is on the main street its prices are what you would expect of a place like this. If you eat in you still end up with your food in the same packaging as if you were to eat out. Including hot drinks etc. But there is no difference in the price so that is good. We got there about 45 mins after opening time. So no long queue's but the lady that took our orders looked like she would rather be anywhere else but taking our order. The building and dining area upstairs was great it had great potential which in the evening it might actually live upto. But for us the one comment we all had was that the chips were not the greatest 😕. Which let down the meals for us.

We only had chips for a snack, they had more eyes in, than the fish counter.

DREADFUL - Quite possibly the worst fish and chips we’ve ever eaten. We foolishly thought that the fish would be fresh as it’s a seaside town. The plaice was coated in batter an inch thick and over fried until it resembled cardboard. The chips were very greasy and overcooked. Don’t waste your money
