Poor quality food that isn't even cooked right. Very expensive. Ordered a fry but was given the wrong order. The 'waitress' who is in her 60s was shaking so much that she was dropping and smashing plates. Avoid at all costs.

Really lovely food good portions at a very reasonable price and the staff are friendly. It's a real cafe like your parents used to take you too. We absolutely love it

Whenever l go up to Ballymena to meet long-time friends, l will get the bills paid and a bit of shopping, that done l will call at Desperate Dans have a fruit scone, milky coffee and catch up on whatever. I can remember this cafe opening a long long time ago. I had been in Sales & Marketing (Oil Companies) approx 30 plus years. I retired at 60 and l am now 76 years, that said, It's good to see Desperate Dans cafe still going strong, maybe l will see him next time. DB.

used to go to Desperate Dans quite regularly but was surprised at a recent visit, not very clean and very tired looking. Food is okay but small servings

Brilliant wee café, to which I have been going for many years - I used to frequent it as a teenager some 30 years ago and it hasn't changed a bit; the same lady owner is still there which just adds to the charm and homely feel! The food is lovely - I had delicious dry crispy chips, a piece of breaded plaice and a lovely side salad. The portion sizing is good, everything was cooked fresh and arrived hot. This meal was under a fiver - excellent value!! There are lots of specials available. I was particularly impressed by the selection of baked potatoes for £3.95 each. Nothing is a bother and the owner is friendly, yet professional. I will most definitely be coming back and bringing my family! Thank you!

Seems Desperate Dan's is nearly as old as Ballymena itself! This stalwart has been serving passers by for many years and although appearing dated that is part of its charm. I had a good breakfast and tea.

My experience with this cafe was with take out soup, which was really tasty. Very cheap too. I can't comment really on what it is like to sit in, but they seem to have plenty of seating and any time I have looked in the window it seems to be busy.

Don't judge a book by it's cover, this place looks dated and tired, but the breakfast is clean, dry and delicious. Everything grilled so no plateful of grease. Only one waitress and some cook, yet food always arrive quickly. Well worth a try
