What a privilege to enjoy the Cullen skink and fish and chip meal. This is an out of the way place to visit but should be on everybody's Journey! they do not serve lunch until 12:00 sharp! no exceptions! So instead I had a shot of the whiskey liqueur at 11:00 in the morning; whereas, the locals were consistently coming in and getting a breakfast sandwich made on a homemade roll. Btw, it is inside the fishery University on the main floor. the food was amazing!

The restaurant is in the university buildings - go through the main door. Simple menu - Cullen skink (smoked fish and potato chowder-like soup) with a bannock (scone) v tasty. The macaroni cheese with smoked fish was also good and extremely filling. The staff were all very friendly.

A real surprise. As others have written, the food is much higher quality than might be expected from the canteen like experience. Not the easiest to find, initially, but well worth the effort. As well as nice food, the staff were lovely, so we had an excellent evening.

Da Haaf restaurant is within the NAFC Marine Centre at Port Arthur in beautiful Scalloway, Shetland and is open only at specific times so it's important to check that first. It's a lovely, clean canteen-like room with window views across to the sea farms, the museum and East Voe waters. You can even go outon to the walkway and watch the birds swooping and diving for fish. In this peaceful setting we had a lovely meal of chilli crab linguine - simply but perfectly done. The menu offers only a few dishes butseems all the more special for it. If in Scalloway sometime try to eat at Da Haaf.

I turned up a little early for a lunch reservation and was made to feel very welcome. The ladies who looked after me explained they had reserved a nice window table so they checked if I wanted to wait until that was free : I did. They made sure I was comfy whilst waiting and ensured I had water to hand during that time. These things are simple. Ut often neglected by even the grandest of places.Once ensconced in a lovely spot, I enjoyed a bowl of cullen skink with a home made bannock. It was just perfect, and filling enough as a main meal. But I did manage a very toothsome icecream sundae. Excellent all round in terms of price, service, view and quality of food.Hope to go again fairly soon...

This is a very unlikely location for a restaurant, out of town and in the rather modern looking complex of the NAFC Marine Centre. We had eaten in Da Haaf in 2010 on our first holiday to Shetland and enjoyed the food so much, we decided to try it again this year. The restaurant is also open for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5:30pm onwards. Upon our arrival we received a very friendly welcome, were shown to our table by the window overlooking Scallaway and immediately offered drinks. We had phoned in advantage to enquiry about vegetarian options and were not disappointed. Both meals were very tasty! The chips and fresh halibut are to die for! The vegetarian option was delicious too. A truly enjoyable meal!

Brother booked a party of 13 of us in to this restaurant as we were visiting his family on Shetland. The restaurant was very tidy (part of the Marine College), well laid out out, staff were exceptional as some of our party were up half an hour late, drinks were brought by various members of the catering team, they were very patient with us.. They looked after us real good. Menu had a nautical theme but there are meat dishes as well as fish. I thought the prices were rather expensive, not sure how my family can afford to eat there regularly. Think we ordered the basic Fish dinner that would have been approx £3 cheaper in a similar restaurant in England. Not sure if its right but I found while visiting North Scotland and Shetland the prices are about 25% dearer than equivalent in the rest of UK at both eating places and hotels. My food was good and I think the rest of the party were of similar opinion.

Having lived in Shetland for 5 years now, we've eaten in most of the restaurants and hotels on offer , however for some reason - until last night - we had never made it to Da Haaf in Scalloway despite hearing from Shetlanders how good they had found it. So glad we finally got there yesterday evening; from the moment we walked in we were greeted by friendly & professional staff that were perfect in the way they served and waited on us. Spot on , not overbearing and no fussing. Relaxed surroundings with lovely local art on the walls to admire or purchase. The food didn't disappoint , a Caeser salad with soya beans (never tried these before), deep fried smoked haddock risotto balls (am definitely going to try making these at home) , monkfish tail scampi ( just couldn't finish it all, but the husband did!) and traditional haddock & chips. All excellent without any complaint. So fresh it was jumping off the plate !Our delicious desserts ended the meal perfectly as we sat at the window on a sunny evening watching the fishing boats sail in and out of Scalloway Harbour - Limoncello panna cotta and Rachels cheesecake. Possibly the best food I have has in Scotland and by far the best sea food. They say the locals eat seafood at home when they want it and most gets shipped out. There just are not that many places that serve sea food on the menu. The pan seared scallops were perfect and paired well with the smoked haddock risotto. I topped the meal off with a light trifle and cup of coffee. The staff was attentive and the price very reasonable. Don't be fooled by the lack of pomp or show, the meal was first rate.

It’s more of a good cafe than a restaurant and it is also a caravan and motorhome site plus wigwams ( colourful wooden weatherproof huts). It’s at Braewick not Brae which is 15 miles south. It has all the facilities that a caravan/ motorhome site needs. Electric hook up, drive over drains, black water disposals, clean water available, good parking surfaces. Problem is it takes a bit of finding these facilities! Even the pitches take a bit of locating as only a couple are numbered. All the rest have been washed off, blown away etc. The showers are looking old and are difficult to manage. There is a playground and the beach is 5 mins walk but bear in mind this is 1000 km north of London, nearest neighbours are Iceland and Norway so the water is refreshing. But the views are spectacular cliffs of red rock and in the sea a set of rock stacks (the drongs) look like a Viking longship turned to stone. Wonderful to look at at midnight. You might see Foula, 40 plus km away. There are blow holes through the cliffs, take care. The Northmavine musicians play at Hillswickplus informal dancing for a great night out but it’s a 5 minute drive or an hours walk. Great place just needs an update.

Right by the ferry terminal so the ideal place to wait for a crossing. This is popular with workmen and with families. They serve a wide range of food and drinks. From snacks to full meals. From breakfasts to afternoon teas. I enjoyed a coffee and a tray bake. Would have called in twice more during my visit to Yell but it was closed.
