Booked the Sunday roast for 4 people at 4pm today. Got there and there was barely any starters left, no beef roasts and one lamb left. When I asked for the lamb I was told no they need to see if someone else wants it first… why say you have lamb then. So was left with a chicken roast option only. None of the group wanted this and were told ‘we should have booked for earlier as this happens every week’. Why advertise it until 6pm and if you know the popular meats sell out why not stock more if this is the norm? We ended up leaving as there was no options we wanted and going to the steak house round the corner… fully stocked and friendlier staff.

An excellent pre theatre matinee lunch. Lovely friendly welcome from Charlotte. A delicious two course meal with efficient service. We had gambas pil pil and salt and pepper chicken wings which were both succulent and very tasty. For mains we enjoyed piri piri chicken (a very tender and nicely spiced generous portion) and steak which was perfectly cooked, as requested, rare with a smooth and creamy peppercorn sauce. An unhurried and relaxed meal which was great quality and very good value for money. Will definitely visit again when we have theatre tickets.

This is a lovely gastro pub/sports bar - with the dining area separate from the main bar . It’s a lovely building and nicely renovated . We went for a meal before the theatre - a bit rushed as it was busy - but only minutes away from the Shakespeare North Playhouse . A pre-theatre menu would be ideal and maybe just be aware if people are going to the theatre . We arrived early but could see that we would only have time for a mains . The dining area is cosy and the staff were great - helpful with gluten free options . Food just took a while to come out . Maybe too many tellies - not sure why you need a gigantic screen in a cosy dining area .

We have visited here a number of times for food and have always found the food to be fantastic. Our breakfasts today were no exception and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Two breakfasts and two large cappuccinos were really tasty, the service was pleasant and we had a nice cozy table. Highly recommend and will be going back again.

Run by kids. Perused menu at the bar and didn't get as far as the dining room. Waitress on a mobile barged past my wife with a dimissive flick of the wrist. Handed back the menu and left squeezing past the waitress in the doorway having a nice chat.

The food is great here. The surroundings are spot on for a gastro pub and the service is attentive and efficient. We’ve been a few times and love the freshness and quality of the food. It’s an open kitchen which is a nice touch. It’s probably the best food in Prescot now.

Absolutely wonderful place to eat. The eating area is separate from the pub which is great because who wants to sit with drunken fellas while eating a family meal. Anyway we enjoyed our food at the mermaid. The food was 10/10. I love that you can see into the kitchen too, it’s a nice touch. Colouring in for the kids and the staff are so friendly and kind. We can’t wait to return. I asked about flavoured beer, the waitress went to the bar and kindly come back with a sample of their cherry beer. Good value for money, food cooked to perfection. See you again soon

Visited a few times now and the food has been faultless on both occasions - we’ve eaten off the regular mid week menu and the Sunday lunch menu. Sunday lunch delicious!! Only thing that has let it down on both occasions is the drinks service - particularly slow both times!

Heard so many great things and in particular, wanted to check disability access before actually rocking up with a wheelchair user and finding it difficult to move him around freely. So booked for 7pm and arrived in the middle of a match, was really pleased to see a pub so busy and clearly thriving, it's a sports bar so big screens and noise not a problem, but would have been access wise for a wheelchair user, so that idea going forward was forgotten. We were directed to the back of the bar and into the restaurant, fully expecting it to be busy given the rave reviews about the food and chef in particular. There was just one other occupied table, which was sad to see. Service was a little slow drinks wise, but the bar was incredibly busy causing slow delivery of our drinks. The match was on in the restaurant but no issues with that, the sound was down and we could chat easily enough. The food arrived and as expected was absolutely delicious, fairly priced and without a doubt we would highly recommend and revisit. However.....drinks were slow and the wine of the month we ordered wasn't cold, we had to put ice in it. Shortly into the meal, the live entertainment was setting up, and the sound checks came through the speakers into the restaurant and then they started the set, which was so loud it became impossible to talk without raising our voices. It's really difficult to get the balance right, absolutely fabulous that especially in these difficult financial times, to have a pub so busy but having a beautiful restaurant in the same pub with all the noise filtering through, was a massive no for us. I cannot fault the food it was outstanding, and the team deserve every credit, but the environment was just not right. The match, busyness was expected and no issues, but the incredibly loud live music just wasn't right in the restaurant, great in the pub. Perhaps mid week it would be a completely different environment? I really hope so as they have all the ingredients for success, they just need to turn the sound down!!!

Very friendly and attentive service (thanks especially to Charlotte). We had a mix of small plates and more traditional dishes. Everything was tasty, perfectly cooked and well presented. Great interaction, too, with the kitchen and bar teams who all contributed to a positive experience. We'll definitely be returning.

An outstanding eatery, nestled in an equally enthralling pub the mermaid tavern. Decor is well thought out and appropriate and the drinks selection is outstanding and the normal rum of the mill. Serving staff polite and attentive and genuinely interested (hope the tattoo heals soon)....
