Ate here last night had a lovely meal. We chose the set menu food was delicious compliments to the chef. Service excellent and very friendly . A great place really enjoyed it. We will visit again

Nice meal in lovely Whitehaven,would of given 5 stars but few things let them down. These are only minor but attention to detail is the difference between someone going back or not. First off host Helen was lovely and warm to welcome, our table was prepared for us in the cosy part of the restaurant, this was the first let down and initial impressions stick. Cosy meaning small, underlit or poor lighting, not helped by the battery operated LED candle, come on guys ..candles …obvious. Secondly and again it’s about first impressions, the menus were all fablon covered cheap looking things, yes they could be argued to be COVID wipe down friendly but stick them in a leather binder and it’ll give a bit more of a nice feel. Waitress was quick to serve our drinks ,young and a bit nervous and had to go to the bar a few times as she didn’t know what strength beers that were on offer. Now finally we order, both not liking fish a great deal we went ala carte, and chose the meat and cheeses sharing platter which was absolutely relish and a belly buster , great big bowl of olives, breads,cheeses and some homemade chutney that was out of this world. Had to put off the main course several times to get through this as it was a meal in itself, would’ve fed 4 quite easily and for the price wow. Then the main, ordered sirloin steaks for the two of us and later told they’d only 1 sirloin left, ok I’ll have the rump but cut off any fat medium rare for both. Mains arrived a couple of minutes later, triple cooked chips ,2 full boats of delist piping hot peppercorn sauce and 2 steaks. Thing I look for on any meal is the plate temperature, both stone cold, time and time again I find that if the plates warm, the foods warm, plates hot, foods hot, plates cold so is the food. This unfortunately was for my steak,the peripheries outer edges were barely above cold slightly getting towards warm toward the centre, it was only the piping hot peppercorn sauce that prevented me from sending it back, it was however cooked just cold and still had the fat on them both. I presume it was precooked and left to rest on the pass whilst we were struggling through our starter but got cold, the missus however said her sirloin was piping hot. We did enjoy ourselves and the entire meal with lots of drinks for 2 came in at under £90, said hello to the chef who gave us a complimentary bit of the relish he made which was nice touch. The restaurant was decorated in a Halloween theme, fake cobwebs etc, I wasn’t keen on that, felt it took away what ambiance there was and was a bit tacky for having such a high rating, best kept to the bar area. Overall,the small let down points are why I don’t give it the extra 1 star, couple of little tweaks would’ve gotten you a 5 but I felt they let the evening down somewhat.

First visit here and well impressed! Excellent welcome by I think the proprietor ? Wife had the sea bass small portion but were told it would be so fine. She enjoyed it! I had the roast chicken again loved it . They had a real ale on which the name escapes me - excellent even the wife had it! Will def return .

Went for a meal today. Was welcomed very politely and greeted well. Sat down and ordered 6 plates of tapas and they were nothing short of exceptional. Each plate was cooked lovely and was fairly priced. Best tapas I’ve had in whitehaven

Nowhere else we tried had places on a busy Friday evening, so we needed somewhere nice urgently for an end-of-holiday dinner. Cleavers popped up on an online search and had places! Hoorah! Initially the plethora of menu and drinks sheets had us bamboozled. But the warm welcome and the excellent personal servce won us over very swiftly. One of had a yen for whisky cocktail - a Manhattan - not on the cocktail sheet. No Problem! They'd look it up and give it a go - and sure enough a very credible cocktail arrived along with all the others, which were perfectly prepared and served, and delicious! There's an eclectic menu with a lot of variety, which isn't always a good sign. But No! Everything we ordered was beautifully prepared and served and very good indeed. We especially enjoyed the selection of tapas starters! But once again, the particular stars of the show are the proprietor and the staff. So friendly and welcoming and determined to ensure you have a great experience. Other restaurateurs could go along and learn a thing or two. It's the vital ingredient!!

Lovely afternoon tea, exceptonal quality food served by friendly staff. Nothing is a bother for these people. They provide first class service from start to finish.

A very pleasant restaurant with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Service was excellent despite being staff down due to covid. Quality of the food was good . However the menu choice was limited. You must check the specials board which was very good. The only thing that spoilt our evening was a young lad on the table next to us who continuously coughed which in the current climate can be a bit of putting. However that aside i would recommend.

Great little place with Tapas menu and daily specials for main courses. Good cocktails and great service. Quality of food good to great.

Me and my girlfriend had a fabulous evening meal on Friday, the starters and mains were absolutely delicious! Two days later and we're back for Sunday lunch with my brother and his wife, again delicious!

We booked based on previous reviews and the style of cuisine. We weren’t at all disappointed. Fantastic meal, every course delicious. Service good and staff friendly and approachable. Covid rules applied and no concerns. Highly recommended.

Was visiting for weekend and booked a table. The proprietor and staff were so friendly. As for the food. Wow . Some of the best food we've eaten in a long time. I had the chicken skewers for starters , hubby had fish coujons. Then I had the chicken in chorizo and butterbean stew, hubby had mushroom tagliatelle. Both were amazing. Service was second to none. Highly recommen.

Visited here with friends recently for dinner and we were all impressed. We shared a few starters (chicken and mushroom) and both were great. I had the vegetarian curry for a main, which was one of the best curries I’ve ever had and my friends enjoyed a steak and the scallops. Yes the prices are high but we think it’s worth it after visiting. Great pornstar martinis too.

Booked well in advance but weren’t offered the Christmas menu, for dinner in December. When we arrived the welcome was good however when we ordered, and we both ordered the fish and chips, we were told that they had no fish. They had salmon on the Christmas menu... but that was all pre ordered! We were more or less left with a choice of burgers. The only ‘special’ on the board was soup! There was only us and two other tables... so they weren’t exactly full. We were supposed to be going with friends, who couldn’t attend at last minute. I think that following our experience, they won’t be trying it. The food was ok... very large portions but the overall experience was very disappointing.

Took my wife for lunch I have a sandwich which was lovely my wife had the ploughman's, asked for no blue cheese, where some places remove the blue cheese they replaced it.Hand made scotch egg still warm ham 3 cheeses pickles pork pie bread butter it was exceptional value for money

My husband and I went here as we were passing through Whitehaven.What a Great find, so glad we came across this Amazing place. The food is top quality, lovely choice of wines and great cocktails The menu was amazing.From traditional, sharing plates through to amazingly different dishes.The owners Karen and Richard are very friendly.Riches is the Chef , and his food is simply stunning from the thought of the dishes he creates to the fantastic presentation, and the tastes are exceptional.You can tell he loves and takes pride in his job.If you are in or even near Whitehaven you MUST go and visit.Karen is a lovely lady very bubbly and great conversation.I would ring and book so you won’t be disappointed ..

Lovely atmosphere, really nice decor and comfortable chairs. Helen and Richard made us very welcome and very nicely gave us a glass of Prosecco to celebrate our recent marriage. The food was absolutely perfect. PERFECT. It was lovely to be able to have a desert due to allergies and it was to die for. The wine list cocktail list is also excellent. We can’t recommend the food here enough! The summer menu is brilliant. We can’t wait to go back ! And they now do Sunday roasts ..... we will be taking all of the family soon !

I had lunch in Cleavers Wine & Dine today. Absolutly EXCELLENT!!! Their new summer menu looks so good, i struggled to choose as it all sounds so inviting!!10/10. i strongly recommend this lovely, very friendly Gastro-pub. The owners & staff make everyone welcome and go all out to make everyone feel special.

We had an amazing time at Cleavers last Saturday. Couldn't fault it, beautiful food, great service and lovely cocktails.

Enjoyed our dinner here a lot. Had a very tasty Mackerel dish followed by a good chicken main. Ambience is nice too. Areas they could improve on are a more extensive wine list - as they do call themselves a wine bar :-)

Decided completely out of the blue to go here on a Sunday afternoon (although we did book). It had been recommended to us, and we weren't disappointed. Tempted by the Sunday lunch, but the lure of the mussels proved too strong! We both had them and they were delicious, the bread and french fries went really well with an enormous portion of mussels in a lovely sauce with just enough chilli in it. Met the eponymous owner and the chef - very friendly. Unfortunately we had missed the scallops; but will be returning.

A nice bar area with a good selection of drinks and an interesting wine list. Also doubles up as a restaurant and has a nicely crafted menu - didn’t eat however the other people that I saw eating were raving about their food and I must admit it looked stunning and would make me want to return and try.

Met my friend for lunch and this was our first visit to Cleaver's, it was cosy and comfortable and with friendly staff. Our food was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked, also had pudding, delicious then coffees, all faultless and with smiling faces all around! Will definitely be going again.

Lovely atmosphere, amazing owners and the food was fab. We had a nice lunch and some speciality coffees. Service was quick, the food was fab and the decor is really smart.

We had an excellent meal, the menu was perfect, not too big which can be very off putting. Much better to do a small menu well which they did tonight. I would have been happy to try anything on the menu.
