Chook Chook Indian Railway Kitchen in Wandsworth

Ordered via deliveroo and this is the state of the vegetable handi which typically has a rich smoky nutty base and chunky cut vegetables, reduced to a flavourless dish made from frozen vegetables. The rest of the food was hardly average.

The lamb shank madras was sublime. A step up from an ordinary Indian restaurant.

Chook Chook is a staple! One of the best Indians in London and a personal favourite of mine. The vibe, the food, the service are all 5 stars. Shout out to the broccoli malai, as well as our server Sam. Never fails to disappoint!

Best curry in Putney. Order via Deliveroo from here often and came to dine in for the first time today. Very busy and good atmosphere. Served by Sam. Service very punctual and amazing fresh food. There’s a happy hour too!

Back again for the sixth time now, introduce some new people and as usual, always excellent. Try to load a new curries that I've never seen before. These guys really do it the best. Couldn't recommend it more!!!

The food here is the best Indian I’ve eaten outside India, it’s not a traditional British curry house (although the curries are amazing) and offers Indian street food style starters too. Highlights are the samosa chaat and dahi sev puri. Prices are pretty reasonable too. My only criticisms are: the naan breads are tiny and at other Indian restaurants I find a naan will feed 2-4 people but here they serve 1. Please make these bigger! And they don’t offer chicken pakora (only vegetable pakora) and I’d love to see it on their menu as again it’s offered at most other Indian restaurants and when we go with friends or order takeaway we always have to remind people they don’t offer it. Would love if the samosa chaat for takeaway was presented like a proper street food style chaat rather than having to put it together yourself

Best Indian food I've had in ages, best butter chicken I've ever had and all the food was pure heaven. Incredible presentation and all the food came out almost instantly. Above and beyond hospitality and the interior looks like a vintage Indian train. Can't recommend it enough.

Second time at Chook Chook and just as fabulous as the first. Sam was so friendly and attentive and the food was wonderful - particularly remind the sevpuri and seafood moilee! The cocktails are fantastic too - this was a welcome surprise as we are big cocktail lovers! Would recommend Chook Chook to anyone, the interiors are lovely and it's a great spot.

Single diner popped in on a saturday evening 7.30, no reservation. They could have turned me away, but friendly host gave me table for 40 minutes. The service was super quick so I managed three delicious starters which was more than enough for my modest appetite. All the staff seemed attentive and smiling. Will definitely return!

A great Indian restaurant, where I being a fellow Indian come often with my friends & thoroughly enjoy. Staff are very attentive, very friendly, especially Ketan is fantastic. I would definitely recommend if you would like to taste flavours of india.

Have been many times before and the food, as usual, was excellent! However, the service leaves something to be desired, as it felt that we were rushed from the off - I appreciate quick service but we felt that we were not given enough time to look through the menus before we had to order, and that we were pushed out the door as soon as we showed signs of finishing our mains, as we were told there were other tables waiting to be seated. Was a shame as we were having a great evening but think an hour sitting per table (we were out in under an hour) is far too rushed.

What can I say, came across this restaurant after a walk, decided to go in with family, beautiful inside, service seemed attentive, however that's where the positive ends for me. Gave poppadoms without any chutney on the side, then was told it doesn't come with chutney which is first time because it always does in other restaurants, the portions weren't great, the chicken tasted frozen, was quite tough and dry which tells me it's frozen, the prawn masala was OK nothing great, the butter chicken is not butter chicken its more of a tikka masala (please learn the difference in taste) , the daal was ok also. I think the place is good for those who don't have indian food much as you can't tell the difference, whereas being from Indian background I can certainly say the food was mediocre at best and wouldn't be coming back here again. Service was great and decor just a shame the food was terrible.

Came here for the first time and although we don’t live very close, this restaurant has been around for a few years now and I can’t believe we only just discovered it! The food was incredible, the ambiance and feel of the restaurant was great, and so was the service. The value for the quality you get is excellent. I honestly can’t wait to return!

Chook Chook never disappoints! This is a really reasonably priced restaurant considering the portion sizes and how ridiculously delicious the food is. I always have vegetarian options - really recommend the paneer butter masala, which is aromatic, spicy, rich and tomatoey - but my friends repeatedly rave about the lamb and chicken dishes. Yesterday we had the pakora to start and omg they are 11/10… crispy, spicy and so flavourful. I’ve never had a better pakora! Everything here is excellent - down to the steamed rice! The staff are very visible, attentive and polite, and the food always comes out in good time. So, overall, there’s nothing to not love about Chook Chook!

🚂 Chook Chook: Indian Railway Kitchen – A Journey Through Flavour 🇮🇳 Had an amazing meal at Chook Chook: Indian Railway Kitchen in Putney! From the moment we arrived, Sahil took the time to explain the menu and offer recommendations, making the experience even more special. We kicked off with Amritsari Tikki Chole, a deliciously crisp potato cutlet paired with tangy, spiced chickpeas, drizzled with yoghurt and chutneys—a proper North Indian street food classic! The Garlic & Chilli Prawns were another winner—crispy, packed with heat, and tossed with vibrant peppers. The Spicy Keema Pav delivered on its promise—flavoursome lamb mince with buttery buns that just soaked it all up beautifully. But the Awadhi Lamb Chops stole the show. Marinated in ginger, garlic, yoghurt, green chillies, and coriander before being cooked to perfection in a clay oven—this is a must-order! We also had the House Black Daal, a slow-cooked lentil dish that was rich and comforting, and the Railway Chicken Curry, a rustic, homely dish that transported us straight to the colonial-era Indian railways. The Lamb Biryani was fragrant, flavour-packed, and had the perfect spicy kick. For dessert, the Gulab Jamun was a hit—warm, syrupy, and indulgent. However, the Coconut Kheer lacked the coconut punch I was expecting. Everything was washed down with a refreshing Mango Lassi, the perfect way to round off the meal. Big shoutout to Ketan and Sam for their warm and attentive service! If you’re in Putney, make sure to check this place out!

What a brilliant experience it was having the best Indian meal in London. We ordered tandoori prawns, lamb chops, Chicken Tikka and the most delicious lamb sheekh kebabs. Had to have the butter chicken with crisp naan and roti. For the vegetarians the black daal and palak paneer just hit the spot. Will definitely come back everytime I’m in London. Service was impeccable!

Every time we come here the service, the food and atmosphere are fantastic. As a pescatarian, there is so much choice but there is also such a unique menu blended with all the classics you would expect. The vegetarian selection is also fantastic. The service is with a smile, and all the dishes ALWAYS look, smell and taste incredible. So lucky to have found such a gem. As always, fab!!
