Lovely place to go for a meal food is very cheap also, table service is great , was there today , 3 course meal for £10.80 was , there again today Wednesday 10.4.24 and was amazing 👏 as usual , highly recommend this restaurant 👌🤣😎 was back in today and the service and food are 2nd tae none

Went to order a takeaway and was told no more orders being taken at 7.40 on a Saturday night? 1 person in the takeaway who had been waiting since 6.15! What on earth is being done in the kitchen!!!!

Ordered starters and twice had to return. And still got it wrong. Place definitely went down hill wouldn’t recommend and won’t be back

Have went to the china garden for over 40 years and over the last 2 years been completely disappointed. Service and food has totally deteriorated. Staff are unpleasant and everything seems to be a problem for them. Food is on par with frozen cheap food you’d get in a supermarket. Menu has changed also. Last time we went and ordered food was nothing like it had been in past, when we mentioned to waitress she wasn’t interested at all and said this is how it is now! Won’t be returning.

Not impressed! Had half aromatic duck and special fried rice. Lacking flavour and freshness. The meat tasted like it would upset my stomach! Dying to find a decent Chinese place in Inverclyde! This didn't taste fresh at all! 👎

This USED to be one of our favourites but will never be back. Arrived at 1.20pm, as we were being shown to our seat told last orders were 1.30! I didn't even get my backside into the seat when she asked for the starter order! Came back with the starter minutes later and we had to ask for a drink, it wasn't offered! Mains ordered as we were eating the starter. Mains arrived around 1.30, at 1.35 the table next to us finished and left. As they were clearing that table they SWITCHED THE HEATER OFF! Twice the waitress came to take my plate away when I was still eating! TALK ABOUT RUSHED, IF YOUR CLOSING AT 2pm DONT'T TAKE ORDERS AFTER 1pm. DON'T RUSH YOUR CUSTOMERS AND TALK ABOUT RUDENESS TURNING THE HEATING OFF! If your in town I would give this place a miss! Food is okay but the staff are terrible!

China Garden has been my family's favourite local Chinese for over 30 years but will never eat there again . Ordered a takeaway and told to collect at 6pm. Finally gave up waiting at 6.35pm, got a refund and went elsewhere. I wasn't the only person with another 4 people waiting 30min plus. On top of that they kept taking orders at the counter and over the phone even when they weren't coping. Even took them 10min to pay my refund. Won't be back.

Been using China garden for 30 years but never again. Was advised to collect my order at 6pm. 35mins later I finally gave up and got a refund.

We read the reviews and decided to check this Chinese Restaurant out. The restaurant itself looked dated, with bright lights and basic furniture. However, the service was quick and friendly, the food was excellent, freshly cooked and very tasty. And the bill at the end, extremely reasonable. If you're in the area it's definitely worth a visit for the great food, service and prices, but don't expect luxury decor.

We got a take away from this restaurant the best chinese restaurant in Greenock for many years now I was disappointed in the satay sauce as it was grainy but the chicken in batter was lovely and so were the noodles ! I would go back for another take away or a sit in meal definitely !

I used to frequent this restaurant for lunch in the late 70s when I worked in Greenock. I was back in Greenock and wanted a pre theatre dinner so I was happy to return to the China Garden. While the restaurant has changed, the quality of the food and service was superb. I had the chicken and sweet corn soup followed by the King Prawns with ginger, cashew nuts and pineapple with fried rice. Very fresh and tasty. Was not instant service because they were cooking the food fresh. Delighted with the experience.

Always go here if we go out for lunch or evening meal. Food is always great.

Fantastic food and service. Very welcoming staff. Very assisting with my disabled mother in law, would highly recommend and would most definitely eat here again 5 star ⭐️

This was our first visit to this restaurant, having read reviews, and spoken to a couple of friends from Greenock. We received a friendly welcome, but I feel that we should have been shown to our reserved table, rather than it just being pointed out to us. The actual surroundings look a wee bit worn, and I was surprised to see a brown '100% Recycled' paper place setting. I know that we all have to try to live 'greener' lives, but this certainly didn't add to any ambiance in the restaurant! Service was prompt, without rushing us at all, and pleasant. Conversation with the serving staff was, however, nil. Now to the main event - the food! It was absolutely excellent, and represented superb value for money. Portions were very acceptable, piping hot, and very tasty indeed. The chicken satay starter was outstanding. For my main I had HK sweet and sour chicken - just delicious. My friends were very happy with their meals too. With the food being so good, it would take relatively little to turn this into a first-class restaurant. As I write this, I have already arranged to come back to the China Garden, for lunch with a friend, next week!

Can't fault the food or service at all. One of the very few Chinese restaurants in the town that sticks to the older traditions that made them. Run by the same family for years and years now. The only complaint is that the inside could really be doing with being brought into the 2000s as its sadly stuck in the 90s in terms of decor and linen used on the tables.

Curry chips.. chips were hard and there was a lack of curry sauce..

Chow Mein was swimming in grease. And tasted as though the noodles had been reheated. Not be using it again, very disappointed.

Had the chicken satay, fried rice and chips with Peking sauce. Absolutely delicious. The satay sauce is a highlight. Wish I had the recipe!

Visited this restaurant for the first time tonight with my husband, my sister and my 93 year old mum. First impression was great, friendly staff greeted us on entering the restaurant and it was so nice and cosy. Great choice of food and we were asked by our server if we would like any recommendations, which my sister very gladly took advice on. The food was amazing, starters of chicken noodle soup, salt and pepper spare ribs and vegetable spring rolls, all of which were delicious. Our main courses were beef curry with mushrooms extra hot with fried rice, roast chicken with beansprouts and onions and fried rice, sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and king prawns with noodles. We also ordered a bottle of wine which was perfectly chilled. The staff could not have been nicer or more attentive and having read previous reviews, I am at a loss as to why people have been so negative about both the food and the staff. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for nice food and lovely service and we will definitely be returning.

LOVELY MEAL EXLENT AND PLEASANT STAFF X

Meals overpriced, poor presentation , small portions, I ordered the chicken curry, it had no taste, curry was worst I ever had, watered down. Wife had a vegetable chow mein , again taste less and greasy, small portion and we ordered from the main menu not the special, we were so looking forward to the meal but left disappointed and wont go back.

Have visited this restaurant on a few occasions always food food decent friendly staff and well priced having went there in November found smaller portions and now way overpriced although food was nice staff friendly but way to expensive now

£27 last night. Thought I was overcharged but told it was correct. -chicken chowmein -chips -chicken satay skewers -delivered all for £26.70. Really??? Come on that's mental the food is not that good that's daylight robbery. Will be last we eat here 🤯

It is decades since my wife and I visited this Restaurant. Suffice it to say, that back then it was a bit disappointing, soulless and cold. We returned last Saturday evening, and what a transformation!! it was impressive. The staff were so friendly and efficient, the food was excellent and swiftly delivered, the portions generous and at less than £70 for a three course dinner for two; including a bottle of nice wine, it was incredible good value also. It also managed to avoid attracting the type of clientele that economy Restaurants often do! We will definitely return.

Much better than I remember. Availability on Friday night for walk in. Good selection of food, and fairly priced too. Some of the chips I wouldn't have served personally but hey ho. Szechuan veg dish was really good. Love tsing tao beer but the wine choices were lacking. Worth a visit. Place does a wallet friendly lunch time special too. Bit of parking nearby.

Went in today for what is known in the business as a businessman's lunch. Did exactly as it said on the tin. Three courses for under a tenner, not to be sniffed at. All three courses were super tasty and were just the right portion size. The staff were dealing with 20+ table and didn't feel neglected at any point. Took me back to the eighties! Keep up the good work.

Haven't been for a business man's lunch for year's my great memories of the China Garden was totally disappointing soup no flavour chow mein dry.

Everything cooked to perfection, beef satay on the skewers and the peanut sauce is amazing

Visited this evening, first and last. Was not busy so we went in. I ordered prawn cocktail, I received a flat plate with lettuce, 1 slice tomato and a slap of unappetising looking prawns in Marie Rose sauce a pathetic piece of lemon too. We were shown to a table with a pile of chairs behind us and toilet doors. My lemon chicken was probably the worst Ive ever had, the chicken was tasteless and the sauce a bright yellow. My husband had a chicken chow mein, the noodles were hot, the chicken was just warm. We didn't complain as we were exhausted and just wanted to eat and go. The ladies toilet was very messy . The staff were efficient but not particularly friendly. Would we go back, most definitely not Im afraid.

I totally agree with Phils review it's totally disgusting and all you can taste is grease and i tride to explain about the food but they didn't care they where more interested in taking your money pls stay clear of this place don't waste your money

Well let’s see been using this Chinese for well over 30 years don’t get me wrong the food was amazing but but now it’s all about getting your cash off u well tonight the 23/2022 my food was absolutely stinking it’s wasn’t a curry it was definitely a mystery box chicken was fryed rice was just grease up out it’s wee grain and the curry well that was absolutely a pick and mix off all flavours all I can say is give your money to people how put effort into your meal not cowboys just out for your money just to remind use money is hard to come buy and a Chinese easy to come buy but but pick the right one cowboys cowboys food is disgusting

Disappointed, visited here for years but it’s went right downhill. Terrible Service. When we arrived it was good for the drinks order. Then It appeared that the staff forgot that we where here. For a bit of context the restaurant was nowhere near full, we where one of three tables. More than half of the table were served their starters and had actually finished them before the rest came out. Despite the flurry of activity around us with people wandering around putting things on empty tables for someone else to come out and take them away again, no one asked if we needed anything and we had to ask for the other meals to which the server replied oh yeah the soups. When we asked for the meals the server seemed like she didn’t want to talk to us and scurried away meaning We had to ask for more drinks despite the glasses all being empty when the server was asked for the missing meals, when the drinks finally arrived around 15 minutes later they where wrong and had to be replaced. There was a clear lack of communication between the staff and no one seemed to take responsibility for any tasks. This restaurant has been in the town for years and used to be a thriving part of the town but it seems like now the staff could care less about the customers. The food was good but the experience soured the visit. Perhaps a candidate for Ramsay’s kitchen nightmares, as it is a shame to see their restaurant go downhill like this.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat as nowhere else open on a Sunday evening. What a great meal! The staff prepared a special noodle dish for my husband - light, full of flavour, absolutely delicious. Couldn’t fault my beef dish. Great service, good value. I remember coming here as a child and safe to say it’s still a great Chinese. Highly recommended.

Sunday evening 7pm...trying to find somewhere to eat on a dreary evening in Greenock which had some spice and didn't come with chips. All I wanted was 'Spicy Chicken Noodle' which bizarrely wasn't a menu item...they did me a Singapore Noodle without the Prawn. Delicious. Egg rice was excellent, as was the beef in black bean. Service good...but the restaurant was empty. Would definitely pop in again when up here.

We go here 5 or 6 times a year and have done for the past 8 or 9 years. The food is so tasty and well cooked. The sirloin steak is delicious but everything is good. The staff are do friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Would recommend.

Food was tasty and we enjoyed our meal. I think the menu is toned down to match local tastes - very moderate compared to Chinese in the more cosmopolitan areas of the UK. Assumptions of Western cutlery and of no gratuity on the card may support that idea, but both of these were changed on request. My Szechuan Beef, while tasty and colourful, lacked a bit of punch. For me, the Hot & Sour soup was a little salty, but that is just personal taste. Chicken Chow Mein was very nice. Portions were all generous. If I sound negative, I apologise - in summary, see the opening sentence above.

Had a meal from here at my mam and dad house not long ago this is only Chinese restaurant they'll order from and the curry sauce is absolute Dyno the chicken balls are perfection on the plate and great value for money been run by the same family for years and it just keeps getting better as the years pass by fantastic restaurant would highly recommend China garden

Ordered a takeout at 1700 for pick up at 18.30, daughter left standing outside for 30 minutes. With no update , telephoned to be told no time could be give could be 2 to 3 hours . Been ordering here and attending restaurant for 40 years . Appalling chstomer service

Lovely food, great to have a sit Chinese for a change, after all the covid restrictions.

Really disappointed from my order last night. Chow main taisted really odd, the satay sauce had no flavour and was thin like water. Family complained that there chicken satay taisted dry and odd too. Completely different quality from what we usually expect, we have been ordering from China Garden for years and usually there food is very good.

We were just passing through Greenock in our campervan and parked up, googled chinese takeaway nearby and ordered from here. One of the best meals I have ever had, was beautiful.

Ordered beef satay , the sauce was ice cold and beef was pink in middle , was told they inspect all meat before it leaves kitchen , think mine came out the fridge , terrible food and customer service

Chips are plainly re-heated. ..all crinkled up and not nice....pancake rolls are the worst ever..the smallest I ever seen and surprisingly burnt. .the curry sauce was just about nice but the onions were also burnt..won't be back..

The staff absolutely refuse to smile and theres no atmosphere. It's like they dont even want you there. The most generic and basic pop music plays and the chicken is a bit too soft. Didnt taste right.

Great value!! For your money. Think it's between 1 till 4 you get a 3 course menu. With us both having a coke our meal all for under £20! Spot on 👌🏻
