Sorry foor was not upto much at all chicken was dry noodles where also very dry beef was an off putting colour and the bbq sauce tasted not very nice

Delighted when we heard Cathay Royale was open again after lockdown. We fairly missed one of our favourite takeaways. Service was prompt and delivery reasonable but well worth waiting for.

This is easily the best Chinese restaurant in Greenock . Its cozy and the staff are so friendly. I really like the chinese music that plays.

A few months ago I had cause to submit a poor review owing to the very disappointing takeaway we received, but I’m delighted to be able to update this after taking the chance to try the chicken in a creamy sauce again. The ones we had last night were delicious! Chicken done to perfection and the sauce was lovely and creamy with just the right amount of seasoning. It was well worth the wait. The chap did tell me it could take up to 1 hr 45 mins and it came in about 1hr 15 mins. Some things are worth waiting for.

Usually reliable and have been coming here for years but our most recent meal was slightly disappointing. The chilli sauce with our shredded beef tasted very synthetic and sweet, and the spring rolls were pretty tasteless. Otherwise, the ribs was delicious and the rice was fluffy and tasty. There are so many chinese restaurants in Greenock now, that if I had this experience again here, I probably wouldn’t return again.

Shambles of a place ordered a meal Christmas Eve 2015 and still waiting on it arriving!

Have been ordering takeaways from Cathay Royale for a good few years now and have never had cause to write a bad review - until this last time. I ordered the Chicken in a Creamy Sauce and it’s usually a lovely creamy colour with succulent pieces of chicken. However on this occasion the sauce (for what there was) was a reddish brownish colour and the chicken seemed to have been prepared from scraps. I’m hoping this has just been a one-off thing and not a permanent change to this dish, because if that is the case I won’t be ordering from them again. Management please take note.

Ordered salt and chilli chicken and a chicken satay from here. Chicken cooked to perfection moist and definitely not dry Quality of the food was exceptional and we will definitely be back.

Visited on June 26 th... service was very good and food was really delicious . Have been in the past for “ special” occasions and never fails to impress. Will always return as never had any disappointments.

Sometimes food is undercooked i.e. rice and other times burnt i.e noodles but when they get it right its eadable decent prices

Visited this restaurant after a number of months. The food was great, ambience top class, and the staff superb. The early evening menu is more than adequate and very reasonably priced. Thoroughly recommended.

One of the better Chinese takeaways on the area. Quality is generally good although during busy times quality can be a bit hit or miss.

This afternoon my team and I attended this eaterie for a lunchtime treat, and what a treat it was. Service was prompt and friendly. Starters and mains were absolutely top class with a superb range all freshly prepared and great portions! Considering the price we will certainly be returning!

One of the wee gems of Greenock's eating places. Food always very good and plenty of it. Good value, pleasant staff and quick service. Have been eating there for years and have always had a good meal. Nothing is a problem for them. I like my food on a hot plate and that is the only wee thing that lets them down sometimes the plates are cold but having said that, I always ask them now when I order if they would mind heating the plates and they do so. They are very obliging and I hope that I will be enjoying my visits there for many years to come. Would recommend.

Went here on the off chance as busy Saturday night staff asked if we could wait a couple minutes to put table together three of us dining prawn cocktail chicken sweet corn soup and ribs to start all very good and good portion size for starters crispy beef mandarin sauce chicken curry and sweet n sour fried rice and some chips large portion size plenty of meat chicken in dishes all very tasty struggling to Finish the dishes didn't have a dessert as no room left 3 starters 3 mains plus six soft drinks bill was just over 50 pounds food is really tasty definitely be back in the future

Had another carry out tonight Special Chow Mein. Delicious and not heavy. Food is delicious. satay and chow mein are my favourites. Best Chinese food in town.

Went here for the first time with husband while visiting family. Cosy restaurant with nice unobtrusive piano music in the background allowing people to talk without shouting. Waiting staff very friendly and not constantly at you while you are eating. Starters were absolutely lovely, we ordered very different main courses than we normally would and we were not overly keen but that was purely down to personal preference. We really enjoyed our evening here, decent wine list as well. Will definitely return and would highly recommend.

Cathay Royale what is happening ?? we were very dissapointed in quality of take away food tonight, was going to phone and complain but hopefully you will take more notice of a poor to average review as this isn't the first time in last couple of months we have been let down by quality of food and tonight was no exception, please do something about this as we have been good customers of yours for many years and enjoyed normally excellent food either sitting in in or take away.

2 course businessman lunch ( available to everyone) £6.80, excellent value for money, good variety on menu to choose from.

The Cathay Royale has to be the best Chinese Restaurant I've ever been to as the food is always amazing and very delicious. The service is quick and we never have to wait long for our food and the staff are also very courteous and friendly, and make us feel extremely welcome. Also, the atmosphere within the restaurant is very relaxing, mostly due to the piano music being played in the background, which isn't loud and nice to listen to. Overall, it is me and my family's absolute favourite place to go for lunch out, and it has been for a while now. I highly recommend it to others looking for a lovely place to eat.

Best Chinese sit-in restaurant in Greenock by some distance. Top class service , food was tasty and plentiful - I had a two course and wife had three course with drinks for just over 20 pounds. Forgot how good this hidden gem was.

Very dissapointing. Used to be good but has gone down hill in my opinion. The Duck was dry, the pancakes were hard due to being over microwaved and the beef was really chewy. Not impressed. Wouldn’t order here again.

Whenever I'm in Greenock I make a point of visiting the Cathay Royale. Although the restaurant itself looks fairly basic, the food is fabulous. My personal favourite is the Spicy Thai Chicken Curry which has a real kick to it - the very thought of it gets my mouth watering. At £6.95, the two-course lunch is extremely good value and, unlike some restaurants offering lunchtime deals, the portions are more than adequate. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive and the food is delivered to your table promptly. I've eaten in other restaurants in Greenock and none are anywhere near as good. Do yourself a favour and check it out.

the curry sauce had lumps of garlic and i didnt like the flavour it tasted more of gravy than curry sauce

We usually order take away from Cathay royale and it's always great so we decided to go for a family meal and sit in. Staff are so attentive and friendly and the food is amazing! They do a set menu with 2 courses at a really reasonable price and there is a lot of choice on there, would highly recommend for both sitting in and take away!
