Chef Phong Thai Takeaway in Lincoln

Spent £58 on a selection of dishes this Saturday evening. Delivery 9miles away was not possible so collected; no card service so paid cash. The food was not great - chicken chow mein, OK but very salty. Dim sum, dumplings were chewy and tasted old not fresh. Egg fried rice was a little tasteless, chicken satay was chewy with an odd taste - we left that as we did the dumplings. Spicy beef was not spicy, though tasty still had a very salty finish. Red curry was watery and bland. The chips were burnt dark brown and cold, had little potatoe in them and were clearly reheated from earlier in the day. Overall very disappointed and would not recommend.

Been here a few times now, different food everytime, got a big takeaway for the family one night, everyone loved what they had.

A quaint little takeaway. No issues with the venue itself or the staff, who were very friendly. I had heard this is where you get authentic Thai food, but in all honesty, it was pretty terrible. Greasy mixed starter and the curry was the consistency of water. Unfortunately, I will not be going back ever. For the food we received, I would've struggled wanting to pay half of what we did. Also told it was cash only but no signs that I could see.

I only eat one thing but doesn't mean any of it is bad! Go visit, go eat, go enjoy!

Having g read the reviews ,we decided on take away for 2.The prawn soup was like white water,very dubious chicken satay,the pad thai was ok.Having eaten thai in Thailand,I found the food to be over rated and over priced and not at all like the website photos.This review may not be welcomed by other customers but I tell it as I found it

Lovely little place with the best Thai food I've had in the UK! Also one of the few places open on holidays like Boxing Day. Important to note that it's cash only.

We have used this place for years and years but usually eat in. We live on a main road which no one has difficulty finding , but for reason the driver couldn't find us. He rang us at 5pm saying he was at our house , and he wasn't he was at the wrong house, we tried serval times explain the road and he kept saying the wrong place , we sent a text with the address and he kept telling us he was at our house and wasnt, we depend 55 min stood outside and the food never came, he ignored the calls in the end so we have cancelled the order. They shouldn't use someone to deliver food who can't read a map , it's simple to find. Very disappointed and hungry!

I was not happy that only cash payment accepted. However the food was good, totally deserve 5 star.

I passed this place for many years before finally getting dragged in. From outside it may not look much but the food is out if this world. Dont think you could get a beter pad thai than from here. Not even in Thailand!! I've now eaten here countless times and always the same great quality, portion size and taste. Fully recommended. I am now a regular returner and its my first takeaway choice. There daytime lunch meals are a great bargin too. And lovely friendly staff:)

We order from Chef Pong on a regular basis , we just had our takeaway delivered , the food is absolutely stunning !! 😋😋😋 can’t recommend enough !

After reading reviews I decided to order. Fatal mistake. Delivery about an hour. But when I opened the bag. I was shocked the portion sizes were tiny. Spare ribs just thrown in a plastic tub no sauce and very dry. Only got one ful rib the rest were just like cut offs. No flavour at all. Ordered fish 3 sauce and duck again hardly any meat and portion so small hard to share. Sticky rice looked like boil in bag rice. And the free prawn crackers we size of standard packet of crisps. For what they charge for mains £7.50 IT is not worth it. Avoid if you want a filling meal.

Been a massive fan of Chef Phong for years, usually come here once a week. Highly recommend the mixed starter for two, the pad thai, pad see ew and the duck tamarind. Always great service and fantastic food! Highly recommend.

Fantastic genuine Thai food. Highly recommended. I have been going here for ten years and nothing has changed which in my opinion is a fantastic strength. Come on in and have a taste of Chiang Mai. The pad Thai is amazing as are all the soup and fish dishes. Seriously recommending the duck too! I've been through the entire menu and can't wait to return next time I'm in the area with my loved ones

An absolute travesty of what Thai food should taste like. Imagine dipping a spoon into the north sea at Skegness and that will give you an indication of the salt content of the soup purchased at this establishment. Additionally the quantities served were quite minimal considering the cost. Thankfully, any larger portion would have been consigned to the sink and this soups natural bedfellow, namely dishwater. How can Thai food of such poor quality be served here in Lincoln?

I'll start with the negative; this restaurant is very cramped. The positive: The service is very quick. The quality is very good. The staff are very friendly. The price is fair. They also offer a takeaway service.

Premettiamo che fa cucina thailandese ma sono cinesi... il locale e’ un buco con due tavolini abbastanza incasinato e non molto pulito, fa sopratutto take away e si trova nel centro di Lincoln. Abbiamo preso una pad thai e un’anatra al tamarindo, la prima così così brute di particolare, la seconda buona. Prezzi nella media ma pensavamo meglio.

I have Lived in Lincoln most of my life and only in the last 2 years would I say I have started eating here. You have to ignore that it doesn’t look like a posh restaurant from the outside, because the food is incredible. The best Thai food I have tried anywhere. The family in there are so kind and lovely. I was once given a scarf which was beautiful, after they had been home. We come here nearly every week if we can and will hopefully continue to do so! there is nothing more disappointing then when these guys are closed!!!!! MUST TRY!

Bland reheated trash. Literally the worst "Thai" I've ever had in my whole life.

I popped in on my way home after having a few drinks and town and was greeted by a very nice lady who quickly took my order. There’s a good amount on the menu without being over whelming and after ordering my pad Thai the food was quickly served with the option to eat in or take away. I chose to take my food home, it was piping hot which meant it was still good to eat after the 15 min taxi ride. The dish was very tasty with a good ratio of meat, noodles and veg. There was just the right amount of oil to give flavour but not leave the food greasy. I’ll definitely be back to try more.

Take away tonight was delicious! I haven't eaten from here in years, but happened to be in Town so planned in advance with a picinc box to keep the food warm (20 minute drive home). Jungle Curry is my favourite food! I shall be happy to collect my partner from Town any Friday as long as take away from Chef Phong is part of the deal!! Fresh, wonderful flavour, best take away in a long time!

Best Thai food in Lincoln. Small but cozy place, ideal if you want to buy take away food instead of staying there to eat. You can notice that the food is really homemade, and it's cheap.

Just passing through and needed some food before going to a concert. The food was served quick. Really reasonable price and the quality was on par with any decent Thai restaurant. I recommend the Penang with extra chicken and chilli. Just wow

We have been buying food from here for many years. The food has remained top draw, tasty, fresh, well cooked. However food portion has sadly slumped! Containers are not filled, eg the rice container was only 2/3 full and there were only 3 prawns in the Prawn Pad Thai. Each time we order from here the situation is the same yet the prices continue to rise. I wouldn't mind paying these prices if the containers were full. Such a shame, as the food is really good and the staff really friendly and polite. But I may have to consider ordering from one of the other thai take aways in future if things don't change as I like to get Value for Money!

Absolutely delicious! I used their facebook ordering app which was great, gave me updates regularly as to when to expect my order ready and also exact prices for my order. The food itself was great, very well cooked and great taste. Staff were very friendly and smiley. Will definitely be using again considering the affordability of the food and quality of the overall experience.

Not bad breakfast if your starving all cheap though sausages, bacon, hash browns etc all cheapest ingredients going not quality. But it fills you up if hungover haha

I've eaten in this little spot for years usually stopping in for a quick lunch. Would love to see more people through the doors for them. It is authentic, even the coconut rice is the fluffiest I've had. I would recommend the fish chu che which is fish in a crispy batter with a slightly hot creamy sauce (makes my mouth water). Even the special fried rice is great off the lunch menu.

I’ve been a lincoln resident for 30 years and have driven passed this place 100s of times and often dismissed it as to be honest it looks run down and dirty. But for some unknown reason I’ve always had the feeling that this could be a hidden gem. I was right! We love Thai food and have eaten at all the Thai restaurants in Lincoln which are pretty good but very expensive, even to take way. Chef pong only has a takeaway option. It is reasonably priced too. The food was Devine and easily the best Thai food we had experienced in Lincoln. It was fresh and flavoursome. Spicing was spot on and served with a friendly smile. Can’t wait to visit again!

Friendly staff, quick and easy service. The satay sauce is amazing, so have anything with that on it. They are adaptable, so if there is something specific you want just ask. Great prices. Don't be put off by how it looks, the food is lovely.

Llevamos desde aquí al menos una vez al mes y nunca nos ha decepcionado el sabor y la calidad de la comida. El servicio también es genial. Pero el tamaño de la porción en relación con el precio es decepcionante. Muchos de los contenedores para llevar están medio llenos en lugar de llenarse a su capacidad. Estoy seguro de que si se aumentara el tamaño de la porción, volvería con más frecuencia, en lugar de pedir de mi comida china local, donde la relación calidad-precio es mejor. Y también, el boca a boca positivo traería al chef Phong más personalizado.

Lo siento, pero muchas críticas que dicen que este lugar es "auténtico" claramente nunca han estado en Tailandia o si lo han hecho, solo han comido en un resort todo incluido con comida genérica muy promedio. Esto no fue agradable para comer, solo parecía demasiado cocido. Tuvimos una comida para llevar para la familia y no la disfruté en absoluto.

Saw this place by chance and what attracted us was how it looked and felt like a Thai cafe you’d visit in Bangkok - no frills just delicious food!! We were not disappointed!! Brilliant green curry and a good price - thank you!!

No frills outside or in but it's all about the food which is very good and fresh, one gripe would be it's a little on the pricey side (£6.50 for a chow mein with 4 prawns) apart from that it's worth 4 stars for sure

I personally really addicted to Thai food and Chef Phong did tasty food (I tried pad thai with pork today) and their prices are affordable and cost-effective (only 6pounds for lunch included drink).

I have been taking my teenage sons here for lunch recently; as always the food was first rate.The place is very basic but I go for the food rather than the ambience. Staff always friendly. I can recommend the Thai Green Curry and the Chicken...

We now compare all Eastern foods with our experience here, few measure up. Only too sad that we discovered this wonder after having eaten at two other places on our short stay in Lincoln. We were walking along and my wife suddenly stopped and said, "what's that smell", we followed her nose and low and behold marvels were presented.You think I am joking I am not.

I recently visited Lincoln for the Christmas Market. After a windy afternoon spent visiting some of Lincoln's pubs to keep warm, my friends and I were looking for something different for dinner. We were lucky to stumble upon the reviews for Chef Phong. Very tasty and affordable Thai food... probably the best value for money quality Thai I've had in England. Also, even though it says its a takeaway, they have a few seats in the front of the restaurant for you to eat in (which we did).This is one of those places you would walk right by if you were visiting. Don't. If you are looking for Thai, go here. It was probably the best food I had all weekend.
