If you want attentive staff AVOID! We had to call someone over to check our coffees were coming and they had clearly forgot. No one came to check on our meal and there were things wrong with it but we had already gone up to get there attention twice before. Food was average - avoid the zucchini fritters as they are a pile of soggy slodge! Staff were very slow and will not be returning

I had to leave early due to the terrible catering I received. What I got was not what I ordered at all and my mother's food was not healthy as we expected. It was gross. My order include other ingredients which I was charged for but never arrived, and it was blamed on me

This is one of the worst places I have ever eaten at, I would definitely not recommend. They were rude to my daughter, laughing at her, and the food made me sick. They also swapped my daughter's order without permission, coming without the right ingredients. Overall, it was a terrible experience.

We got french toast, charlotte’s brekkie, and side of chorizo and eggs. The eggs were cooked so the yolk wasn’t runny at all. The french toast was very good though. Also got a mimosa that was okay but super small for the price. The chorizo was pretty good.

This place is adorable and delicious. It exceeded our expectations. We ordered what we thought were relatively simple dishes -- pancakes and french toast - and received little masterpieces that were tasty and fun. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was quiet enough that we could have a conversation. We will return for sure.

We sat down to eat our food and my friend had opened her napkin and was about to wipe her face when she realised there was a small black hair in it. Utterly disgusting and completely unsanitary. We will not be returning

Excellent cafe that treats all guests exceptionally well. It’s a difficult industry with fast staff turnaround and the manager does a great job. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food quality is great and the menu is interesting and varied. I am a local and visit frequently between meetings and before/ after sports training. There is always something on the menu suitable for the time of day.

Absolutely love this little cafe. Great food, great coffee, lovely atmosphere and clean with beautiful decor. Would much rather eat and drink here than at a chain.

What a fantastic little eatery. Myself and my better half ate here yesterday afternoon and were blown away by the food and the service! We went for the valentines menu as it seemed great value for money (and my life probably wouldn’t be worth living if I didn’t!) Initially I thought, not all the dishes on the menu I’d order for myself but am I glad a stepped out of my comfort zone! Having been an ex-chef years ago I was really impressed by how well the dishes were put constructed. Really good balance of flavours and textures, someone really knows what they’re doing here! My favourite was the ricotta with cracked wheat, almonds etc. Not something I would order usually, being Irish I’m a meat, veg and potatoes man, but this was fantastic. This was followed by beetroot and avocado on sourdough which was my girlfriends favourite followed by another course with courgettes and spiced tomato all washed down with Bellini’s and Mimosas! After all that we had just enough room for the pancakes! We had lovely time being served by Robert and his team who couldn’t do enough for us! Fantastic little place that’s more of a destination to me than it’s next door neighbour, The Ivy!

We came across Ukai by accident as we were making our way through Portobello Market and wanted a more substantial and comfortable lunch than that on offer from the market stalls. We perused the menu outside before entering having decided we liked the look of several dishes, so we went for it. Despite the throngs of people and hustle and bustle of the market outside, Ukai was surprisingly quiet, and with only a couple of other diners, we were given a very generously sized table, with comfortable seating. The paucity of other diners was a bit of a concern and prompted a quick look on TripAdvisor before we settled in and ordered anything. The recent reviews did nothing to alleviate the concerns, but decided to stick with it and were really glad we did. The staff were friendly and efficient and were prepared to explain the menu as well providing a warning that one of the dishes selected may come with a slight wait due to the time it takes to prepare. That wasn't a problem; we took that as an indication the dishes were prepared to order and were fresh. Also, we wanted a relaxed lunch and weren't in any hurry, but TBH, there wasn't any noticeable delay in any of the service. For starters, we went with a couple of cocktails, including a very refreshing Kyoto style mojito, and shared steamed edamame, chicken gyoza and generous portions of pork belly bao buns. Mains included the beef short rib and sizzling beef Toban-Yaki, with sides of broccoli and Japanese mushrooms. The food was well presented, fresh as expected, using quality ingredients, with delicious results. We enjoyed everything, so we were glad that we hadn't been dissuaded by the negative reviews. For us this place was a great find and provided a relaxed setting for the lovely lunch we had been looking for. Hopefully other diners will look beyond unfavourable reviews and give Ukai a go. For food this good it certainly deserves to busier than it was on a Saturday afternoon with lots of potential customers passing through the market outside.

After hearing mixed reviews about this place i decided to try this afternoon tea. They have Halal and Gluten free options. Overall ambiance and decor of the place is nice and floral. Staff was attentive and kindly offered free a hot chocolate to the child. However it took then 35 mins to bring the food on the table despite the whole place being quite empty. We had one Gluten free and one regular afternoon tea. Afternoon tea itself was very presentable offering variety of teas and we tried three different teas, the nicest one was Masala Chai. Sandwiches were ok in taste albeit rather bland. Scones were fresh, tasty and light. Unfortunately the desserts were very average in taste and were very basic. They do not do refills which is unusual for an afternoon tea. There is definitively room for improvement.
