We stayed in Ludlow for two days and on a recommendation decided to dine in Chang’s for the first evening . It was wonderful , traditional and tasty . Food came out promptly, with happy smiling faces . We had booked to dine in a restaurant the following evening , but decided to cancel that and have Thai again . Glad we did . It was just as good second time around . We spoke to the owner , and she mentioned that sadly the restaurant was closing at the end of July , and hopefully relocating to another location . Good luck with the move , see you again when we are back up in Ludlow

Visited for evening meal March 2024. Pre-booked and managed to get seated early which was a bonus. Clearly a popular place. The waitress was very friendly. The quality of the food was good and we didn't have to wait too long. I think on a Saturday evening they could benefit from having an extra member of staff as the lady was rushed off her feet. It was a bit on the pricey side vs other Thai's I have been to, but then you are in Ludlow so it wasn't a surprise as such.

Perhaps it was our mistake to go to the only place with a light on. On a cold night we entered a cold restaurant, perhaps another hint. The menu looks interesting with some traditional old favourites. However the delights of Thai cuisine were hidden by over powered flavours that basically burn themselves into your tongue to the detriment of the ingredients. And no we did not eat a curry. Rice portions were too small to act as a break and you leave desperate for a calming flavour and certain that you have not come to the right place to receive it. At least the rain had slowed when we got out.

Our first time at this restaurant and we were very satisfied with the food and service, though I would point out the place wasn't busy. My wife and I had the set menu which offered a good selection of Thai food, spicy but not too hot. I thought at first we wouldn't be able to eat it all, but we persevered. We are planning to return for another go in the near future. I wish the restaurant every success in these difficult times.

We just arrived in Ludlow yesterday afternoon and wandered into town last night in search of somewhere to eat. Having walked around for a while we selected Chang Thai. We had a mixed platter starter and both opted for Massamam curries with rice. Whilst the service was good and very attentive, the food didn’t hit the mark. The starter was bordering on being too greasy and the massamam curries lacked any depth, with chunky potatoes and carrots bulking out the dishes. This is an average (not poor) review for a meal that was a little overpriced.

The decorations were nice and the atmosphere was good. Service was quick and they were polite. Food was filling and very tasty! (Really enjoyed it 5* for the food itself!) Only point which is a shame but they could have provided more sauce it seemed like very small portions of sauce for the amount of food (for the starters) However with alcoholic drinks and large amount of food it was very reasonably priced and I would return! And recommend to others!

These are difficult times and we should be careful to judge restaurants too hashly. There aren't many good, reasonably priced options in Ludlow so hoped Chang Thai would be good but it turned out to be a little disappointing. For starters we had the Chicken Wings and Lettuce Gems. The wings were good; the lettuce gems not overly exciting. For mains we had a Red Chicken Curry which was a little overcooked and Weeping Tiger which was dry beef with a dipping sauce. Both were OK but the meat was overcooked or re-heated (which is not unusual at this type of restaurant). For pudding, we had a Brownie with Raspberries which was OK but had no fruit. When we complained they gave us some sliced strawberries! With a couple of beers, the final bill came to £80 with tip which is not cheap. The service wasn't the best (possibly due to the pandemic) but the food was a little below par and I wouldn't go back if I visited the area again.

We’ve eaten here 5 times previously and have (usually) been impressed. The portion of duck starter (£10) was ridiculously small and dry - accompanying veg had obviously been sitting around for quite a while. Red curry was tasty and good portion. Pad thai was tasty but again small portion, fried duck main was very expensive, small portion and...underwhelming. Overall, really sad to say this isn’t how we remember the place, and we won’t return.

I’m very nervous about COVID and not comfortable myself sitting inside a restaurant yet but love eating out. We arrived for 12:00 and ordered from the BBQ menu. We had the scallops, Thai salad, chicken skewers, prawn, squid, jasmin rice and sticky rice. The food was delicious and so well seasoned. I loved the thai salad I wish we ordered 2 so I didn’t have to share with my Dad. The scallops were delicious, big and juicy. The staff were great, respected social distancing, checked on us but not an annoying amount and it was very well priced. Such a lovely place and the meal was superb. We will defiantly go back.

They only serve food at lunch and at dinner time so we were a bit gutted when we turned up at 3pm for a bite to eat. We made the special journey the following day to have tapas lunch here at the bar.The bar decor itself is bohemian and quirky with a chilled atmosphere. The staff adopt the same vibe too.We ordered tapas and had the usual spring rolls, prawn toast, king prawns in filo pastry... which were all tasty (nothing special though) but the duck pancakes were really disappointing. The duck meat itself was cold, dry and hard. It didn't look or taste like duck. The accompanying cucumber and spring onion weren't fresh either as they were warm and soggy. We were pleased that they had Singha beer to offer though, even if they were the small bottles. So a good experience for a quick, light lunch but it was a shame about the duck and the food was slightly overpriced too.

My Massaman curry was ok but not like the many I have eaten in Thailand, it did not contain peanuts and every other Massaman curry I have eaten has contained peanuts, it did however contain potato so was almost authentic. Visited with friends this evening and found that, although the food was tasty, there didn't seem to be enough of it. I would advise the management to consider asking customers if they would like more of the cheaper parts of the meal (rice, noodles) so that customers can feel as though they have had enough to eat. The mark up on items like rice etc must be phenomenal as they give you so little of it and charge upwards of £3 per portion!!Had to go to the chip shop on the way home as we were all still hungry.

I write exclusively to criticise the poor value for money of this restaurant. Having visited several times before and often had the fixed price ‘Thai tapas’ at £13.95 for two to share (which is fine, but mostly veggie items) or a main meal, we fancied something a little different by selecting four of the individual tapas dishes. Four individual tapas dishes, a small and rather flat lemonade and a pint of ale was £32. Bear in mind you get 5 dishes for £13.95 on the fixed price option. All was well, until the food came out, lovely though it looked and tasted, there was VERY LITTLE FOOD full stop! Two tiny triangles of prawn toast, two very small chicken satay skewers, three minuscule pork dumplings and three microscopic duck spring rolls. The spring rolls were about the size of an AA battery, the dumplings no bigger than a 10pm coin and the two prawn toasts would have fitted together on the back of a playing card. The place is faultless except for the very poor value for money and as a result, we will probably never return. If you do visit, go for the fixed price tapas, if you go ‘off piste’ on the tapas choices you will pay a very heavy emotional price with feelings of guilt, self loathing and sadness. I’ve been through it.

As a lover of Thai food and searching out Thai restaurants that I have not yet visited I have to say that this place is one big let down. I ordered my favourite dish Duck red Thai curry with coconut milk. First problem we received our dishes and mine came as a green Thai curry so I sent it back. I sat with out food whilst my partner ate his tamarind duck (which was nice although a small portion and not really what I would normally expect as a tamarind duck dish) we then noticed that a few different people had gone over to the table opposite to ask them several times to confirm their order. My red curry eventually arrived with my coconut rice which I noticed was half the portion of the jasmine rice, in fact it was 3 dessert spoon size, the smallest portion of rice I have ever been given in any restaurant. The red Thai curry was the worst I have ever experienced and I have had hundreds of these at many places around the world. It was so strong and bitter and tasty grainy and definitely not the smooth creamy spicy curry I expected. I ate the few people of duck and left the rest as the sauce was pretty much inedible. I gave the staff my constructive criticism and they came back to say that they would deduct the price of the rice, so £3.50 off a £52 bill! I asked them to look at it again and give me a more realistic refund and they refused. So I offered them £40 what I thought the meal was worth (in fact a lot more than it was really worth) and we left. In summary the food was awful and service was as bad.

Chose this restaurant on the basis of TripAdvisor reviews - and also because it was open on Monday evenings when so many places aren't! We weren't disappointed. The food was varied and very tasty - I would happily have given an "excellent" review except my main course could have been a bit hotter and there wasn't much duck in there either. Minor points, though, and overall all four of us had a lovely meal with friendly service. (My friends had no complaints at all about their meals and our starters were excellent). Began the evening with drinks at their bar across a little alleyway. It was fantastic! Lovely surroundings and a very relaxed place to unwind before eating.

Lovely decor as you will hear from most on here giving their reviews. However beyond that the Sunday lunch BBQ we had was very overpriced in my opinion and the quality and portion sizes poor and could have been much better if expecting our return. Less than tasty food. Broken and dirty cutlery, cups and saucers which we had to request be changed. The place is in an ideal location but not well managed. Food on the floors under tables attracting wasps in rear garden and had to change tables several times. Overall unfortunately not a good experience which is why I say "Such a shame" because run right this place could be wonderful if they give customers a meal that they will remember for the right reason not the wrong reasons! Will not be returning. Two cups of tea, one ice tea and three BBQ skewers with four tiny thai sausages came to £67. If it was a meal enjoyed then the price would not be an issue but this was not value for money.

Unusual restaurant with detached bar where I think you can eat as well. Pleasant staff to whom we are sorry as we discovered we had no change for a tip so slipped out quietly when they weren't looking. Why didn't we add it to the credit card- well I find those hand held things too complicated and pressed no when I mean yes. Food was good: my beef salad was excellent and actually better than the one I have cooked at home from a recipe by ottolenghi. Not sure about the green curry my partner had so hope she doesn't read this but thought it a bit watery- probably could have done with a bit more coconut to thicken. Any way pleasant evening in Ludlow.

Great food rubbish service, 1 girl serving 6 tables!! I don’t enjoy paying for a meal out when I’ve had to sit and wait for 20mins for a drink and I’ve had to order it twice. Poor Don’t go during the week!!!

Chang thai is wonderfully situated down a narrow road just off Ludlow market square.

One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. I had a starter of duck spring rolls, the massaman curry and key lime pie for dessert. Every meal was absolutely delicious and the family all had the same opinion. He key lime pie was divine. Staff were very calm and friendly. All round a very pleasant experience.

Nice place (decor) but service was not brilliant. Food looked great but was disappointing. Massaman curry, a usual favourite of mine was let down by a watery sauce and no spice kick. Average at Best

Having eaten is some great Thai places over the years we looked forward to a visit . Ordered a sharing platter to start ... then I noticed the flies ... around 40 or so in the bar . This did not sit well . Food arrived 10 mins later - deep fried everything ... microwaved rubber chicken and burnt prawn toasts. Quickly ate and left without ordering a main course .

Met a friend for lunch in the bar here recently, and we were pleasantly surprised by the lunchtime menu. I couldn't resist ordering the pad thai, and was glad I did - it was absolutely delicious. Beautifully flavoured without being at all hot or spicy. Good value for money, as well!

Always great food, lovely variety. Fantastic soup and great to have less informal bar food in the cocktail bar next door too.

Ate here on Friday night after a few drinks in their bar opposite. It’s a popular place and filled up quickly. Food was great - reasonably priced and very tasty. Nice atmosphere in a building ( like most in Ludlow) with loads of character.

Wandering around Ludlow with my wife at Christmas, we fancied something to eat but "off the beaten path" and less mainstream than the usual pizza and coffee shop emporiums, and just happened to follow a side street that lead us to the Chang Thai bar and restaurant... which certainly wasn't planned - but turned out to be a superb experience that we couldn't have bettered anywhere else.

This restaurant is consistently good. The food is nicely cooked and presented. The menu has a good variety of starters, selection of main courses and side dishes. Served by helpful and friendly staff in a pleasant restaurant atmosphere. Cask beer is well kept and available from the associated pub - The Globe. Prices are typically 'Thai' (i.e. slightly more expensive than a 'chinese'). Toilets are basic. The restaurant is very popular and I'd advise booking.

I had a starter followed by emperor prawns & sticky rice. The prawns were good but there were only 4 with some garnish. There are no side dishes on the menu so it was not enough. Two of us ended up ordering more starters as a follow on while the others had pudding!

We were not too sure what we wanted to eat after traveling all day. We found the waitress very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We shared a tapas starter plate and enjoyed it all. Then we had the duck and tamarind sauce with noodles which was a lovely dish, We were very happy with the whole experience.

Beautiful delicate Thai flavours and the Rioja was, unusually for the UK, served at perfect temperature.

We had the tapas. It looked great when it arrived, very nicely presented. However it was all rather tasteless. Not awful, just tasteless. The tofu was incredibly tough, as tough as a tough steak. The corn fritters were solid lumps. The tempura battered vegetables tasted watery and seemed to be unseasoned. The chicken was OK but the satay sauce with it was bland. The veg crispy pancakes were tasty. I suspect very little is made onsite.

We had dinner here, pre booked for 7:00 p.m. There were a few diners, not too busy. The decor is unusual. Quite quirky.

Very tasty, highly recommended. We had a large mixed order for a group of us. Everyone was happy. What more do you want of a Sunday night takeaway?

Hidden Gem in the Heart of Town Tucked away in the heart of town, I stumbled upon what can only be described as a culinary treasure. This restaurant exudes authenticity, with every dish crafted to perfection—the kind of perfection that feels like it came straight from a beloved grandmother’s kitchen. Each bite was a testament to the care and skill behind the cooking, leaving me in awe of how every single dish could be this delicious. One thing I truly appreciated was the absence of the all-too-common dining interruption: no waitstaff hovering every five minutes to ask, “Is everything alright with your food?” (Why do so many places think this is a good idea? If the food is bad, trust me, people will say something—well, maybe not in England, but you get my point.) From the quality of the food to the relaxed dining experience, this restaurant hits every mark. If I could give it more than five stars, I would. Food: 5 stars. Value: 5 stars. Experience: 5 stars. Plus, plus, plus. This hidden gem is a must-visit.
