We came to celebrate a late family birthday. We had the mixed starter platter and then red Thai curries. I had duck, my son had seafood and my daughter had the beef. Packed with flavour, piping hot and absolutely delicious. The service was good. The waiter was friendly and polite. We will definitely be back to this little gem.

I had a truly enjoyable meal at this place. The service was exceptional; however, there was a considerable wait between our starter and main course, likely due to the high volume of takeaway orders they were handling throughout the evening.

My boyfriend and I popped in last night (a Saturday) for the first time, we didn’t have a reservation but were warmly greeted and immediately seated at a nice table. The restaurant has lovely homey decor and we both instantly felt comfortable there. There was a lady and a gentleman working who were friendly, professional and had a lovely manner which felt un-rushed in the best way, i.e they give you plenty of time to look at the menu (which has a surprisingly large amount of choice!) without feeling pressured into panic ordering which is what normally happens for me at other restaurants 😂 We ordered the Thai platter for 2 to share to start, then the beef massaman curry, the red duck curry and a sticky rice to share for mains along with a Singha and a glass of Sauvignon - it was lovely to see the wines were from Tanners too, a good quality Shrewsbury wine merchant. The starter platter came with barely a wait and was absolutely delicious, chicken skewers with a satay dipping sauce, fish cakes with a sweet chilli dipping sauce, some prawn toast (which was extra specially delicious!), spring rolls and chicken wings. Thoroughly recommended, and I especially enjoyed the little pot of grapes and sliced apple - that was a really nice touch! The mains came at the perfect time and were presented on top of a pot with a tealight in to keep the food warm as we ate which is thoughtful, they were both tasty mains and we ate every last bite. Perfect portion sizes too as we left feeling full without being too stuffed. Our bill came to £50 which for two really great courses as well as alcoholic drinks is very reasonable indeed. I’d happily pop back here any time and would recommend it for anyone who likes Thai food ❤️

My other half works five days a week in Shrewsbury so we thought we would sort out a date night for a Friday night. We narrowed it down to Castle Thai as we wanted somewhere independent and I could see that it had very good reviews. We weren't disappointed. I liked that it was small and the decor was welcoming. The hosts were friendly and not 'in your face' or pressuring us to order too quickly. We ordered the Singha Thai beer which was delicious, shared a chicken skewers with dips for starters, then I had a masamaan beef curry and my other half had a prawn meal. We asked for recommendations for the rices to accompany. The meals were absolutely delicious, full of flavour and not overwhelming. The portion sizes I felt were just right. Unfortunately, they do not offer desserts but have a good selection of coffees available to finish the evening. Overall we would definitely visit again. Perfect for couples / friends / groups. Very intimate and welcoming feel, and nice to support an independent authentic business.

The starter was a joke for £17. It consisted of 2 tiny chicken wings, 2 small spring rolls. A weird milk bottle top sized patty along with prawn toast & a tooth pick satay skewer. It was ridiculous for the money. The mains however were very tasty along with the noodles & sticky rice. We did complain about the starters but the elderly gentleman couldn’t understand & just laughed.! We would eat in there again but just avoid the starter.

We saw this place when we first arrived in Shrewsbury, but didn't make it there for dinner until our last night. When we looked at the menu, all the wonderful offerings, we realized what a lot we were going to miss by only eating there once. So, we made the best of it. We shared an appetizer, this crunchy little chicken pocket with a delicious sauce (#8, I forget the name), and the house special fried rice, and a coconut milk curry. The sauce was delicious. Everything was beautifully cooked. When we come back to Shrewsbury, this is the first place we will go. We liked the ambience, and the service could not have been better.

Food wasn’t bad. Not the best thai food i have had. But the service was terrible! I asked the waitress about an item on the menu, and because i dont think she understood my question, she very rudely told me to learn to read the menu. But i waited and i had to call her 7 times to place an order, because she kept avoiding eye contact with me by instantly looking away. When the time came to her taking my order she rudely said have u read the menu. I will NEVER Return to this place

When my first-born and I get together for a meal in Shrewsbury, Castle Thai is our first choice. The food is always excellent, beautifully prepared and so tasty. We always have vegetarian/ vegan meals, there's plenty of choice. This time we had sweetcorn fritters, I had an amazing red veg curry with plain rice, R had a mixture of starters, some with tofu (so good), coconut rice and fresh side salads. We hadn't booked as it was early on a weekday but the place was half full already and even though the proprietor was there on his own, we were all served promptly and the wait was what I'd consider reasonable. Accessibility: small door step (1-2") and double porch, which could be a squeeze for wheelchairs or pushchairs. The interior is quite small, but a table near the entrance would work for a wheelchair user. The toilets are not specifically disabled-friendly but, if you can transfer/ weight-bear independently, you'd be able to use them. There are no grab rails, however. There are disabled parking spaces outside on the road BUT they may not be available, as it's first come first served. The rail station is a 2-3 minute walk away, uphill on the way there. I hesitate to praise castle Thai too much in case it gets too popular and walk-ins become impossible. But they absolutely deserve all the props. Great food, lovely staff.

Really sad to be leaving a poor review, as I have never felt the need to before, and the food here is beautiful. Customer service, however, was very poor and dangerous. Visited with a friend with a peanut allergy. Advised at the time of booking, and when choosing from the menu. Discussed all food choices with the waitress to ensure no peanuts, making her fully aware that a friend had an allergy. Food was delicious, but peanuts discovered in one of the dishes we had been advised was nut free. Fortunately, my friend didn't have a serious reaction, but this could have been very different. Rather than check my friend was ok, the waitress initially denied peanuts were in the dish. After repeatedly asking her to check with the chef she did, and came back and confirmed it was her mistake. She then however proceeded to say we shouldn't order food without knowing what we were ordering (despite the fact we had specifically checked the dish with her). She went on to suggest that 'us people' and 'our group' had been in previously, complaining about the food, the drinks etc, as though we were making things up. This was completely not true and despite trying to understand what she meant, she became very rude and continued to appear to blame us for the mistake she had made. She told us the chef had shouted at her, and accused us of doing the same (we had not, but just tried to get her to understand how serious the situation could have been). She made us feel incredibly uncomfortable, and the whole situation was embarrassing and surreal. I completely accept she was probably embarrassed by it too, but she handled it poorly. She continued to make comments about us (in front of other diners) accusing us of doing this before. We had never eaten together in this restaurant, and i had not eaten here for around 10 years! In the end, I had to walk out as I was unwilling to be treated so badly. A real shame as the food was really good, but I could not face eating somewhere like this again where a customers safety is clearly not a priority, and the customer service is seriously lacking. There was a lack of training on how to handle allergies, with no information being passed to the chef, and no real understanding of why it is important. Would recommend if you have no allergy and are fully aware of what you are eating.

Went here this evening with my wife and son. First impressions weren't great as the door was locked at 6pm (It should open at 5.30). When we did get in the decor was as we'd been told: Tired. Once the food began to arrive though, all concerns disappeared. My Tom Yum soup was easily the best I've had. All the dishes we tried were excellent although I have had better Pad Thai. If I had to criticise then I'd say nothing was as spicy hot as I'd expect from Thai food. Maybe they're trying to cater to the majority but I like to work up a decent sweat. Even so, the flavours were really good and I have no hesitation in recommending the Castle Thai to anyone

I went to this restaurant of the trip advisor review unfortunately I was disappointed. I had ordered a chicken pan Thai, they only took cash over £15 which I found a bit annoying as it was only me. When I got my dish back to my hotel I discovered the dish only 2/3 full no peanut or cashew on top and the was red cabbage on the side. They gave some prawn crackers which I thought was nice but when I opened the bag there where 4 individual crackers in there.

Booked our table for 20.15 but didn't get our food for more than two hours. Although the food was excellent..... the portions are much too small for the price charged. We shared a platter as a starter between 4 persons but it certainly was not worth the £26 price tag. Waiting staff worked really hard in difficult conditions but it seems that they were let down by a management that continued to accept 'walk ins' despite the fact that there were inadequate staffing levels in the kitchen. It's a shame...... fab position and lovely atmosphere spoiled by long long delays and over pricing.

As any Salopian tends to know, there was an incident recently in the attics above Shrewsbury Town Library. It transpires that Ammutseba, "The Devourer of Stars", had broken into our reality by disguising itself as some damp that had virulently made its way into the pages of several dozen old Wilbur Smith large prints and an unopened box of A5 piano lessons flyers. Ammutseba, with murderous designs to obliterate our world, burning at the centre of its non-heart, descended the side of the library and out onto Castle Gates, where it was run over by a Go Carz cab on its way to Old Potts Way from Coton Hill. As Ammutseba's compromised corporeal form swiftly rotted to a gruesome death (it had not taken into account the limitations of carbon-based matter and also the brutal driving styles of a late-night cabbie in Shrewsbury town), the Devourer of Stars briefly transmogrified into its native, utterly nightmarish shape, before disappearing and leaving our reality in peace once again. All of this was visible from the large windows of Castle Thai, which offers the diner a truly top class downtown Shrewsbury dining experience, along with its great quality food, decent prices and friendly, welcoming staff.

Upon visiting this Castle Thai. I have seen better updated places but the place looks stuck in the 70's regards to its design. Food was good but very runny in regards to sauce. Meat was cooked nicely.. an OK section of drinks and spirits but otherwise a nice family and very welcoming.

Quaint little place, great tasting Thai food and no frills, ideal for a low key meal with friends and family

The food was ok but nothing special and the décor was tired. Wouldn't go again but if you just want some basic Thai food then its ok.
