The owner was extremely rude and insulting when I was not happy with the cake I had ordered. The decorations on the cake were wilted and old. the size of the cake was much smaller than what I had ordered and the actual cake sponge was wrong too. Awful customer service and product. Will never go again.

Located in a commerce street, Babylon supermarket is an iconic bakery that has been serving Glasgow for about 30years. Some items you must not miss out on eating here are the bun maska, Irani chai, ginger biscuits, and during Christmas, the plum cakes.

I ordered a chocolate cake for my boyfriend’s birthday with fresh cream. The cake was delicious, v light and fluffy and good value for money. The price is per kg and they weighed it after it was all boxed up which I thought was a little unfair but the cake was great so I would definitely recommend

Just been to this patisserie and bought Zulbia & Bamieh. It’s like nothing I used to have back home. First of all its not fresh secondly the syrup is not sticky but taste like its been dipped into a thin sugar syrup. It’s not crispy or glossy at all. No taste of saffron in their pastries at all. Also the young inexperienced girl was serving which could not handle the pastries with love and care. Sorry Carmella I would not come back.

Myself and my boyfriend only popped in to look at the cakes, we was served by the sweetest people! They were so warm and friendly and treated us like we were the most important people. We were allowed to have some tasters of the pastries and cakes (all amazing!) the cream is to die for! The service was amazing and the food is even better! Can’t wait to go back soon!

I found Carmella Patisserie online when I was trying to find somewhere to make a birthday cake for my wife - I got exactly what I asked for at a reasonable price and the cake was perfect, everyone loved it. Even better than that, the patisserie is an Aladdin's cave of pastries and having now tasted a few different varieties already, I will keep going back for more. You can stop searching for alternatives!

My husband ordered a birthday cake for the auspicious day the day before my birthday. There was no catalogue or any point of reference, they just asked what he would like, which should have been a red flag! He ordered a vanilla sponge with fresh cream and some fruit decoration. When he went to pick up at 12 noon he was told to come back as it was not ready. He went back two hours later a picked up the fake cream concoction. The cake cost £25, the sponge was dry and they hadn’t even cut off the crust before layering. This was a disappointment not only for us but for our guests. What a shame, a little care and attention to the end product would have gone a long way.

I had often walked past this amazing patisserie and admired the goods in the window but had never stopped to buy. However, I came home one evening and my wife had popped in to the shop and purchased some cakes. What can I say? They were the most delicious cakes that I had ever tasted! We now have different cakes / pasties occasionally (diabetic, so not too often!) The work that goes into each cake is impressive; I would recommend that you give 'Carmella' a try, I promise that you will not be disappointed.

The vanilla sponge with fresh cream and fruits was really good. I bought it for a birthday celebration and everyone enjoyed it. Will go again. friendly staff. He offered a cookie to taste while I waited for the cake to be decorated with name. The cookie was fresh and tasty, will go again to try their turkish delights and treats.

Today I went to get some real Persian zolbia and bamie which is traditional Iranian sweets. They have changed the original recipe to add colouring to it, which we never put colouring in zolbia or any food for that matter. Bamie was old and tasteless, when I took it home one bite and straight to the food recycling bin. When I asked the lady why colouring in the food she had a take it or leave it attitude. I’m not a massive cake person but I absolutely love the fresh cream cakes from Carmella. I’ve ordered 2 birthday cakes from Carmella so far and have never been disappointed. Amir and his team go out of their way to make sure the cake is beautifully presented and tastes amazing. The sponge is light and fluffy and the fresh cream is perfect to taste. I received loads of compliments both times I’ve ordered and everyone wants to know where these delicious cakes come from. I highly recommend Carmella!

The cakes are wonderful.No fault on that. U can’t have tastier cakes anywhere else!The problem is lack of organisational skills. Your cake will never be ready on time. I ordered several times from here and every time I had the same problem. I arrived on time but cakes were not ready . Asked either to come back later either to wait 15-20 min.when you have party organised loosing this time can ruin the start of your party.

Randomly stopped in here over lunch for a sweet snack - I never in this area for work. So glad I stopped, I’m a big fan of Baklawa and this place sold a great variety and some of the best tasting Baklawa I’ve ever had in the UK. Will definitely revisit.

It is being over 6 years that me and my wife do shopping from Carmella for their different lovely sweets. But there is big problem in the shop... and it is that you can't control yourself on the sweets not to buy :). Well done Carmella... thank you and please as always keep your quality top.

Came here for the first time to buy some tiramisù mainly. It was delicious, very similar to the Italian one, very good prices and they even made me try some before buying. Definitely will be back.

Today I came to collect my Daughters 1st Birthday cake. Upon collection I was happy although the B wasn’t written in icing very clearly so I asked if it could be changed to look more like a B, in both my Daughters name and the word Birthday. The man in the shop seemed very put out by this and instead of saying no problem, simply asked if I’d paid. I said no I’m here to settle up the £30 (price agreed on the phone) he told me that I needed to pay £35 and put the cake on the weighing scales, which in itself was strange. I told him I wasn’t going to pay more than the agreed £30. He continued to argue and said everything is sold on weight of the item, and that he’d have to cut part of the cake off to make up for the £5 shortfall. I was shocked! I ordered a 10 inch cake which surely has a standard price. I’ve ordered many cakes from cake shops before and this has never been an issue. He then said he’d “let me off this time” by this point my blood was boiling. I was unhappy with the writing and he had got me annoyed by trying to charge more. I then proceeded to give him my card to pay the £30 he then instructed me to go and get cash out of the machine as the card machine wasn’t working. I had called ahead of collecting the cake and he didn’t tell me the card machine wasn’t working over the phone. He had an argumentative tone that made me feel I was an inconvenience. I then went to get cash out of the machine but actually contemplated not going back to pay as I felt so angry. But I knew that I needed a cake for my Daughters Birthday so felt I had no choice. I went back and he had made a total mess of the writing it looked like a child had done it. But I didn’t want to argue any more. I paid the cash and he still tried to argue with me that next time I should have asked about the weight of the cake when I ordered??? Very bizarre. I am now stuck with a cake that doesn’t look very nice but let’s hope it tastes ok. I am sitting here at home feeling quite upset by the treatment I’ve had. I have previously bought a cake from here before and had a great experience. I just hope the owner realises that he has an employee who is treating customers so badly. I do wonder if the employee is an honest one and not trying to make an extra couple of quid for his own pockets.

They make the best coffee and pastries - affordable and varied. Lovely staff and you are left alone to enjoy down time. Situated in the heart of market place which makes it easy to find afterward do a little shop!

It was my landlord that recommended me to visit Carmella, once I moved to Surbiton. The shop looks very modest, but when you walk inside you will get blown away by all the delicious treats. Just make sure to bring cash, as they do not take card payments (there is an ATM by Sainsbury's across the street). The staff is also lovely.

its a bad quality , the groceries are out of date ,and the owner is such an horrible person, he lies to your face and tell you the food its fresh but its not at all ,and its expensive and rubbish. dont buy anything from there , trust me

This Is by far one of my favourite shops on the Ewell road, Surbiton.

mmmmh such amazing sweets place, I had a lot of difficulty to pick which patisseries, cookies, sweets to take as they were all amazing!!! I definitely recommend it, lovely staff and delicious patisserie!!! Be careful, it is sweet and addictive :-)

If only this place would have couple of tables next door and serve some coffees and teas...! The choice of pastries and cakes is endless. Firstly we were a bit confused with pricing as none are on display and gentleman behind the counter seemed not too keen to explain how the whole thing works (hence 4* rather than 5). We opted to try a bit of everything - filled up one of the smaller square boxes with 6 different types of treats, which all came to a £5!! Incredible value for money. As somebody mentioned earlier, great gift alternative and it's delicious!

I say if you like, in fact love good fresh cream cakes this the best in the area. Cakes made to order for that special occasion or you fancy a little treat for yourself, this is the go to shop.

As soon as you walk in you're blown away by the amount of choice and the beautiful display of the cakes and pastries. All freshly made and the smell is wonderful. There are pastries, baklava, cream cakes, Turkish delight and loose nuts etc. Staff so friendly and helpful. Took us a while to decide what to choose and we're offered samples and given recommendations. Our toddler was given a free strawberry biscuit that went down a treat. Was also still open with fresh cakes at 21:30 on a Saturday evening. Definitely go and have a look and try some pastries, something for everyone

I've tried many cakes from different types of bakeries, their cakes have a unique taste. I've never eaten there but we always buy cakes for birthdays and celebrations. Seriously lush :')

It's a lovely persian bakery with friendly staff. Once we were running really late and the shop was supposed to close so me and boyfriend called them and they said they will wait for us and not close before we get there. Delicious baklava, cakes and saffron ice cream! Yummy! You should try it!

Wonderful sweet, smell delisious, taste is wonderful. Everything I tried was very nice, I was tempted to buy the whole shop! I ended buying a lot more that was intended, but I was happy and would recommend it to anyone who likes to try something different.

Fantastic baklava and middle eastern sweets and breads. Always a good selection, friendly staff that let you sample a couple of bits to help you decide what to buy. Reasonably priced for such good quality sweets.

First let me say this is NOT a restaurant. There is no seating, it's a shop selling Middle Eastern sweets, Turkish delight, baklava etc. I visited because of the glowing reviews here but I was served by a rather sullen man who did not seem very interested in us ( we were the only customers in the shop at first). I don't like places that don't display any prices as it's hard to work out how much you are spending but nevertheless we chose a few pieces of Turkish delight and a slice of cake and 2 biscuits. The bill was over £7! I love Middle Eastern delicacies but will stick to my usual shop instead where the service is much friendlier.

The service is very good but I must say that even if it were terrible I would recommend this place to anyone. The food is really fantastic!

On Ewell road, the shop window displays several items of sweets, biscuits and other specialties of Persia. Step inside and feast your eyes with a massive selection of dried fruits,sponge cakes, biscuits and savoury. They have a really nice pomegranate juice and alcohol free beers. I have always used my debit / credit card and contactless chip to pay, which is a great option. Excellent service!

The best Turkish Delight ever...the cakes aren't half bad either. Great to have this on my doorstep, although maybe not for the waistline.

I chanced upon this a couple of years ago. We are regulars now. The husband and wife team running it are very friendly. He bakes everything on site and has an eye for detail. We order cakes regularly and they are always excellent quality.Much better value than pre-packaged supermarket cakes and biscuits.

I don't get the other reviews at all! The staff here seem sullen and uninterested. Not a smile to be seen! The pastries were incredibly expensive considering the seemingly low quality - they just tasted stale/plain.The place looks really nice, but the product and staff attitude means I just won't return.Plus this place shouldn't be in the restaurant section - its a bakery.

This is one of the best Patisserie in the area. Cakes are the best in terms of flavour and freshness. You can place orders and be sure they do their best to do a good job...

I know this place well, the chap who is the baker a lovely man with an eye for quality. Would order from hre any day, and he will go out of his way for your requirements. Highly recomended

Forget taking over priced garage flowers round to friends on a night out, call in to Carmella and pick up a selection box, choose some favourites and somethings you've never tried before. A much better use of a fiver! Helpful staff and always a smell of fresh baking!

The best Napoleon - millefoglie I have tried in years. Cream is lovely - light and not too sweet. Gorgeous macaroons. I didn't like bakhlava that much, but it could be just different style from what I was used to. Super friendly staff. Huge asset for the area.

Carmella Patisserie made the most AMAZING birthday cake for a party on 27th December to celebrate my 50th and my nephew's 21st birthdays. It was huge, the sponge was light and tasty and it was covered and filled with fresh cream and fresh fruit, decorated with drizzled dark chocolate. It was made for 60 people (generous slices) and it cost £84. I have to say that it's probably the best £84 I've ever spent, and it's definitely the best birthday cake I've ever had! What's more, not being the most organised person in the world, I only went in there to order it 5 days before, ie 3 days before Christmas. The staff were so pleasant and accommodating. I really cannot recommend it highly enough.

Popped in while passing as I love baklava and thought hmmmm why not... To be honest not the best I have tasted and a little over priced... Lacked flavour and was just hellish sweet. Now I know it's suppose to be sweet but it's actually meant to taste like nuts etc... From my time working in kitchens I know there are short cuts to save money and to be honest skimping on pistachios and other nuts is a classic as they cost so much... So sorry stop trying to save money and do it properly. Woman was friendly and helpful but seemed a bit distracted and even though I was the 1st in the shop she choose to serve someone she obviously knew before me... Not very nice. I will be back to try some other things as it all looked nice.

This is the most delicious patisserie I've come across. I've tried the fresh cream cakes, baklava and biscuits and all of them were fresh, delicious and great value. I would much rather come here than overrated places like Patisserie Valerie which is pretty tasteless. As an added bonus, Carmella is only 10 mins walk away from me! Check it out when you get a chance!

I have to concur with all other reviews. This is a hidden gem. I now pop in every Saturday for fresh bread and my boys love the sweets. Great cookies, macaroons and danish pastries. I've started getting the baklava for friends and the pistachios are amazing. Service is so friendly and they are happy to let you try things. Go and support this great local place!!

This is a little shop with loads of little sweets and delicious nuts. I always come back to get a family cake or sweets for weekend.

We have recently moved to the area and having discovered this wonderful shop became regular customers. Our favourites are the walnut macaroons:) Everything is quite inexpensive too.

Delicious cakes, biscuits and baklava. One of my son's first phrases was 'cake shop' as we pass, which is 'unfortunately' every day ;) The fresh cream cakes are all tempting and deliciously fresh. We go in for a cake each and leave with at least two...and some biscuits.

Carmella isn't a restaurant, but simply a lovely confectioners and patisserie. They have a wonderful selection of baklava and exotic pastries and sweets that make you want to try them all. Service is very friendly and they give you things to taste. I'd go there as often as I can.
