Used to work here and faced intense racism. They offered to buy out my contract seemingly to keep the issue quiet. I was contemplating taking legal action but this would mean going against an institution I respect (Camphill) that looks after people with learning disabilities. Since my experience of racism was limited to the Holywood branch. I ended up accepting the "garden leave" they offered because I didn't like the idea of attacking an institution that looks after the vulnerable. To add insult to injury at the end of this "garden leave" they didn't actually pay the entire sum that they owe to this day.

I use this cafe when I’m in Holywood because it employs people with additional needs. However yesterday I heard a person in authority having no empathy for someone who was trying to explain that their grandmother was in hospital and terse reply was “well these things happen” and the implication being just get on with it. I was appalled and saddened that this unprofessional exchange happened let alone in the main cafe area in front of other people. Obviously I don’t know the full story but in my mind it wipes out the credibility for supporting people with additional needs.

Fabulous place with organic fruit and veg, loose/bulk items, lots of health food, and a tasty cafe! I was delighted to find a few vegan options, such as the soup, roasted veg toastie and super food salad, which were delicious. Highly recommended! Update: it's dog friendly - yay!

Fabulous organic and vegetarian cafe, bakery and shop in Holywood, Northern Ireland. It gives people with learning disabilities work opportunities and helps them improve their life. It's open Tuesday to Saturday and a lovely place for a tasty lunch. The shop is at the front and the cafe is at the back. The food and coffee is great and you'll be supporting a good cause by eating here.

Went into Camphill to have lunch today ( 9/4/22), after sitting for a few minutes, waitress came to take my order, asked for a menu , after all I don’t know what’s on it without a menu, ordered a toastie & tea, toastie arrived, no tea, waited for the tea to arrive ( meantime toastie getting cold) finally caught waitress’s asked for my tea, after another wait tea arrived, no milk, by this stage had most of the cold toastie eaten, couldn’t see the waitress, had to go look for her & ask for the milk, no apologies, paid & walked out, won’t be back again.

Another visit to this cafe in the spirit of supporting the social enterprise and celebrating a wholly vegetarian cafe. The food was ok, but some of order never arrived. We gave up trying to attract the attention of the server and decided to make do with what we got. When settling the bill I mentioned the forgotten food, and the response was 'right, well I wont charge you for that then'. No opps, sorry or anything. We have been three times and every time we have been disappointed. Shame because we really want to support this place.

This place used to be my favourite place to go for lunch. Unfortunately the place has went downhill fast. The past four times I have been has been the same. I kept going back to give the place a chance, but it seems it has changed for good, and not for the best. The place used to be a busy little cafe, full of eccentric characters. Now it stands empty. Even at busy lunchtimes when all the cafes around are packed. People are obviously voting with their feet. What used to be delicious menu with so much to chose from for a very reasonable price is now one laminated page with limited choice and very overpriced options. I haven't seen an adult in the place for months. I am not sure who is in charge. Just the same bunch of teenagers who sit in the corner on their phones. They never seem to have anything prepared. Ordering food usually involves the person taking your order running back and fourth to the kitchen, sorry we don't have that, sorry we can't do them. Camphill used to be full of lovely herbal teas and derserts on display near the counter. Now the place looks empty and dreary. All the eccentric regulars have obviously come to the same conclusion as myself. And that is, this place is drab, soulless and overpriced for very low grade food served reluctantly. Nobody would love to see this place improve more than me. However, I won't be back. There's only so many times that you can spend your hard earned money on very poor service and even worse food.

Great coffee and free refills to your heart's content. It's just such a wonderful experience going along to Camphill and the staff are superb. Sadly, the appearance from the exterior continues to deteriorate and we had to navigate around a series of obstacles to gain entrance; it appears that most of these obstructions are possibly an overflow from the "jumble sale" next door, which is a bit depressing. Otherwise I would have been happy to give maximum rating.

I've been quite a few times in the past. A year ago I would have been raving about Camphill - their menu was different - interesting offerings with a Mediterranean or North African influence. Today I was looking at an uninspiring menu you would see anywhere - leek and potato soup which was over peppered or sweet potato and ginger soup served with wheaten bread rather than the fabulous masala and olive rolls which are no longer on offer. Then there was the disappointing toppings for the baked potato - baked beans or cheese!! This was all served by a guy who really didn't want to be there!! Sad really.

One of the most popular coffee shops in the area. Amazing petit menus; their soups are so delicious with a constantly changing variety to die for, especially the cream of celery and also the cream of tomato which is our favourite with basil. A very popular innovation is their Gluten Free FridaysOnce inside, the place is beautiful and authentic, delightfully Germanic; sadly you could easily miss it as the shop is rather overwhelmed by large trucks outside with constant street trading on the footpath, otherwise five star.Overall, a warm atmospheric charity café that’s deserving of local community’s support

While I respect such an ethical enterprise, our visit was very disappointing. We ordered two mini toastie meals and one mini sandwich. Shortly afterwards we were told that the toastie a could not be done as the machine had been switched off (3.00). Two mini sandwiches duly arrived in their place, but the first one ordered had been forgotten! It appeared to be a major operation to produce one so we cancelled it. The mini sandwich in fact was a small piece of wheaten bread with a sliver of cheese on it, alongside some slices of pear and banana. All very tasty but underwhelming. Next time, think I'll play safe and just order a traybake!

Ate in Camphill's for the first time for lunch yesterday. Very nice little business, everything is organic and freshly prepared using local produce which is fantastic, and I absolutely loved the menu.I had sweet potato with bean chilli and it was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was reasonably priced and I would definitely eat here again. The only less positive part of the experience: a number of items on the menu were not available, which at early lunchtime is definitely not ideal to have run out so early, and when paying, my bill came to around £5.65 and I handed the staff member £10, to which she replied that she had no change, and then stood and looked at me as if it was my responsibility to resolve the situation - not very helpful, but it was fine as luckily I had my debit card and was able to pay with that. All in all, great little business though, love the ethos, and the food didn't disappoint so I recommend it.

The soup was amazing, great texture & flavour, the sandwich was so fresh, not like what you would get in a sandwich shop for the price. Today we went back & I had a baked potato with beans, sounds simple but the potato was baked to perfection, the beans were organic, it was topped with cheese & came with a crisp fresh side salad of lettuce , red onion & peppers, great value for £4.95. We went here recently on advice from a shop assistant in Holywood, where we were enjoying a girls day out..Unfortunately this was not a good experience for us. There was a very long wait to get our food, although there were only 2 tables waiting. From an uninspiring lunch menu we ordered sandwiches. When food arrived we were given no napkins or knives and eventually we went in search of them ourselves. My sandwich was dry. with virtually non existent filling, and one slice of bread obviously had been lying uncovered. I spoke to manager and showed it to her, this exchange was interrupted by her taking a phonecall. Sandwich came back, not replaced and with a "little" more cheese and the realisation with 2 bite marks still on it, the unappetising thought my food had been poked around in...poor service ...friends sandwich was just okay, but with a 'skin' on side dish of hummus .The manager perhaps was very busy that day, or understaffed, but as well as her having to take a phone call at the table it happened again whilst I was paying the bill. The nature of this cafe in supporting the camp hill community, we were always going to Pay the bill. After paying bill I did, as kindly as possible tell manager we had had a very disappointing meal, and poor quality of ingredients ...She seemed a little bemused and just said, sorry. Camphill seems to have regulars, who enjoy coffee/scones etc. or soups which looked fine. For us we would not go back. There are too many good restaurants in Holywood where you could get a much fresher sandwich for the price ,served with trimmings etc.A real shame, maybe it was just a bad day.

I'd been searching for an organic restaurant or cafe in Northern Ireland and found this place via an online search. I decided to go with my husband for my birthday brunch. We got there at about 11am and didn't really fancy anything on the breakfast menu as it was all bread or pastry based, so we asked if we could order from the lunch menu, but lunch doesn't start until 12pm but we were happy to wait over a coffee. I had a browse of all the organic ingredients available to buy and bought some of the homemade organic and gluten free mince pies from the bakery (it was close to Christmas). Lunch arrived (quiche with salad) and it was very tasty and didn't disappoint. We were also offered free coffee refills which was a nice touch. They do takeaways at lunch time as well and the locals were queuing out the door for soups, stews and bread to takeaway. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and I would definitely go again. Make sure you set aside plenty of time to enjoy the place, I don't think it's somewhere you could go in a rush.

The food here is so fresh, healthy and delicious always served with freshly baked bread. The cafe is cosy and bright and a very pleasant place to have lunch. I can highly recommend the salads and soups. They don't have a coffee machine, so only serve filter coffee, but have a good selection of teas, both ordinary and herbal.

Sir regarding your review. I as a long time friend to Campbell cafe and their co workers. I can assure you that you are wrong in supposing they are treated as slaves. I personally have known all the full time staff and owner for nine years and never once have I seen any evidence to suggest or indicate your opinion. They are all wonderful people doing a wonderful service to both customers and residents. The food is specifically geared towards healthy living and its prepared by the co workers on site. In fact the way they conduct themselves at the cafe would set a good example to some of the young people of Northern Ireland. This is not a meant as a rebuke to you but an insight from a regular friend to Campbell's.Thank you.Glenn.

Have been a regular for years, but never thought of writing a review until now. The food is always excellent and the wheaten bread is the best, proper old fashioned, coarse and crumbly unlike the commercial stuff that the supermarkets and most home bakeries are doing now.The staff are always pleasant and nothing is too much trouble. The selection of organic fruit and vegetables is extensive and there are plenty of less perishable groceries to choose from, not forgetting the baked goods.

We went here last week for lunch for my partner's birthday. (she is vegetarian) I reserved a table for us and our baby as it was a surprise, and also asked them to do a chocolate birthday cake. We both ordered from the daily specials. I had spinach and feta quiche, she had butternut squash. Both were delicious with really good salads. The cake was so fresh it was still warm, and nice and moist. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We are both looking forward to our next visit.

This restaurant is one of our regulars. Go to it for coffee and scones (hmm) mid morning or for lunch. Midday meals are based around organic salads, soups and stews and are alway flavoursome. The staff are always pleasant and attentive. You can buy gorgeous bread baked on the premises. A visit to Camphill is always an uplifting experience.

stopped off here to pick up 'something nice' to bring on a visit to a friend. There were so many ‘nice things’ on offer that it was difficult to choose. The young woman who was working there was most helpful and even headed off to the kitchen to get me some of the peanut tray-bake that she had described as her favourite (it was delicious). I left with a lovely selection of goodies and some very healthy wheaten bread. Keep up the good work!

Yummy food and lovely staff !! I would always come in for a coffee and a brownie if I'm in Holywood. Or a glutenfree pear& almond cake. Or a Ploughman’s Lunch. Or...Well, there are too many good things on the menu to choose only one.

Nice friendly staff, helpful. Ideal for coeliacs for lunch or cake and coffee. Marvellous gluten free bread with gluten free soup. Best gluten free bread available anywhere. Beats free from section breads by miles. You can buy it in the bakery section but you need to get it early, it goes fast. That or ring to get them to keep you some before you go. Freezes well so you can eat it at home. Nice Gf pear and almond sponge and big mugs of coffee. You are also helping the Camphill community at the same time. Lots of good organic products stocked too.

I really enjoy eating here. It started off life as a converted bakery and for those that don't know, it is affiliated with the nearby camphill community. It is essentially a community set up to include those with special needs performing productive work under an Anthroposophic [look it up!] framework and included as full members rather than being pushed to the side. They serve only organic (biodynamic) and vegetarian food, and it is a not for profit. The bread is amazing and no matter what it is you order, get it with a masala roll with chutney, humus and salad. All the food appears to be freshly made and is of a very high quality. I can't praise it highly enough, it really is what I'm looking for from a healthy lunch. May annoy "Salad dodging" vegetarians and vegans who I have chanced across the odd time. Weird but they exist! The salad is always really well garnished - no awful soggy tomatoes or unpallatable veg like you get elsewhere. This is the only place I consume the side salad and all. To tackle some issues people had raised. Yes there is a lot of dark stained wood, the tables are basic and at times it can appear dark. It is staffed by volunteers and community members / camphill staff, and at times can be heinously busy so it is always worth your while being proactive with your order!! A lot of the staff are German as well I believe so do note they perhaps don't all share our NI quirks in case you think they are blanking you. I have seen one couple leave due to not being served promptly enough. However the facilities are always well maintained and the crockery is hand thrown pottery. The food can tend to be on the plain side at times and the menu isn't huge - but the food is predictably delicious, healthy and you generally get served quickly. The staff are usually friendly - so go, enjoy but remember don't leave your patience at the door and please don't committ the vice of the NI pensioner of going buck mad if the place isn't painted sunburst yellow!!! Do yourself and society some good by eating here. Best vegetarian in Holywood - and most ethical too.

This cafe is a hidden gem in Holywood. From what I could see everything was organic and fresh. The service was friendly and prompt. Like other people said, it's a great place if you are a vegetarian as the menu is completely vegetarian. The fresh made soup and bread was tasty as well as being a great way to get out of the cold rainy weather. Will definately be going back next time I am in Holywood.

Really great place to dine I went there for lunch with my daughter when I was back home in Bangor from the Middle East, and what a welcome change the food was. I had the seafood pasta, and my daughter had the traditional fish and chips. Both portions were excellent, and the seafood pasta had tons of varied seafood. I believe the Bryansburn has been taken over by a chef/owner, John Park. Absolutely fantastic, John. It is a pleasure to have dined in your establishment good food, good staff, and good prices.

BYO, as a newbie on the island I wasn't aware of this. Otherwise we were completely satisfied. However, the restaurant is difficult to access for people with walking difficulties. Narrow stairs to the 1st floor.

Beautiful fish and chips and even better scampi. The batter is so light you can properly taste the food, you will love it.

We went to watch the rugby in the bar and no one was in the bar. The tvs weren't working only the one in the pool room were there was about 5 people playing pool. Hopefully it's just teething problems
