Café Maja in Hammersmith and Fulham

Pricewise still this place is a good choice. However, I don't know if the poorer food quality than usual is due to my coming at 6pm and not at lunch time or this place has changed in the last 5 years since I last was there. The food was OK, but not super fresh like before. It was not as well seasoned as before. Just salty. Yes, the pork escalope was as massive as usual, but tasted like in a rather not great bar mleczny in the native Poland. Somehow I was not impresed. the Polish applepie was not delicious as usual. What has happened to Cafe Maja??? Have they changed the cook? Or they warmed up the food made in the morning or the day before on old oil? For 10 years until 2015 I would come there eagerly , even travelled from North London especially to have a delicious Polish meal. After what I tasted today it is not worth it :(. Before I could bear the squashed tables and not be able to find a table, but now... I am afraid it's not worth the journey...

Delicious polish cuisine and various cheesecakes. Special mention goes to the cheese and apple pancakes and the polite, friendly service. The best cafe and food in the area

I have been visiting this place for many years and I always eat something. Today I was completely shocked... the portion of cabbage rolls was barely noticeable on the plate... not everything can be made up for with sauce and potatoes. I guess the company has a certain weight of meat and portions... you'll have to look into it and report it where appropriate. The fact that prices have gone up is understandable, but cutting portions like that is not fair for customers.

I recently had the opportunity to dine at Caffe Maja, and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. From the moment I walked in, I felt a lack of warmth and friendliness from the staff, which reminded me of a bygone era in Poland that many would prefer to forget. It felt as though customer service was not a priority, and the unfriendly demeanor of the employees made for an uncomfortable atmosphere. When it came to the food, I was equally let down. The potato mash I ordered was not only served in a tiny portion but also lacked any discernible flavor. It was bland and uninspiring, leaving much to be desired. For the price I paid, I expected a much better quality meal. To top it off, I decided to indulge in a cake for dessert, only to find it was not fresh. For a place that prides itself on its offerings, the stale cake was a disappointing end to an already lackluster meal. The high price tag attached to everything only added to my frustration; I felt I was paying for a subpar experience instead of enjoying a delicious meal. Overall, my visit to Caffe Maja was far from enjoyable. I left feeling dissatisfied and unlikely to return. There are far better places to enjoy a meal where both the food and service reflect a commitment to quality and customer care.

Delicious polish food, some members of staff super friendly, some very miserable. On my last visit we ask for pork escalopes with chips, we was told it's too hot ( 22 degrees outside ) to fry chips...really?!

Delicious Polish dinners and cakes, cakes and desserts. Very pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. Living in Denmark and coming to London for the weekend, it was very nice to eat Polish dinner.

My goodness the perogis here are sublime! No frills cafe great cakes amazing perogis (both meat and the cheese were excellent )

More and more expensive. Portions have been very reduced and trimmed and prices have increased. Unfortunately, the quality has also deteriorated and does not match the price. It is such a simple bar and the prices are like in a restaurant. For this money you can eat a decent, good and larger dinner in a restaurant not here. Men won't eat here. In addition, the owner is unpleasant and very impolite, she gives the impression of sulking and dissatisfied. He makes mistakes and cannot admit them. Cashiers just shake their heads and are afraid to object. She herself orders the wrong meals in the kitchen and convinces customers that this is what they ordered. Very unprofessional. Unfortunately, I would like to thank you for the food and service in this place. It's a miserable pleasure. I leave 2 stars only for the large selection of cakes, if you like them and which can be ordered cheaper to take away.

The food was very good, delicious cutlets, croquettes and potatoes with sauce :) Unfortunately, I had to subtract 1 star because when ordering borscht to go, I received a portion large enough for a sparrow (barely half a cup), so it was a bit of a disappointment.

I've recently met with my friend in cafe Maja. Besides the very tasty cakes, tea and coffees we had, we were amazed by the personality and service of the lady who had served us. She is so lovely, friendly, positive and caring that we felt more relaxed and looked after much better than in any other such places since a long time :) Her name is Ivona. She made our day indeed 😊🫂🤶🙏

A little corner to enjoy and feel like home . I come time to time and enjoy the nice desserts they offer . This time I was craving for some cream and Justina kindly suggested me the apple meringue, it was even better that I was imagined. Thanks :)

Today I bought poppyseed cake and cherry cake. Both were very delicious. It was especially nice with coffee.

Shocking experience ! My first and last time there … Served by a woman cashier, no smile no customer service unprofessional . We ordered 3 hot drinks and one slice of cake that I returned straight away as was not fresh at all . I won’t recommend that place at all .

Great coffee and cakes (£4.5 each cake which is a reasonable price given the huge sizes of each slice), however the food is not the best, more of a canteen quality. The staff are really nice and open.

Shocking experience! On Thursday 2nd November, I ordered a main dish and a dessert, as usual - plain cheesecake. I paid my bill. Then a waiter brought my dessert and immediately I noticed the piece was almost half portion of the ones I used to eat in this place. So I asked the waiter if that piece cost £4.50, as I was really surprised with a smaller than usual size of it. He confirmed it was the case. Then I asked him to take it away and refund me my money. He replied he could not as I had already paid for it. Thus I asked to speak to the manager. This middle-aged woman came and from the very beginning she had a strange attitude. She did not want to agree for a refund. I wish to admit I did not even touch that dessert. As assertive as I can be, I requested the refund anyway. Then that woman took the dessert and said -"I will refund it and you will never come here". "Amazing" service! That lack of kindness, knowledge of consumers' right and total unprofessional behaviour made me so upset. I decided to leave this place and this time I requested to cancel my full order, including the main dish that wasn't delivered yet. While processing the refund, that manager/ owner was extremely cheeky. She gave me a piece of paper that did not even assert how much I was refunded. It was obvious she did not know how to process it correctly. Eventually another guy helped her. Then I saw a young owner that I spoke to in the past. At that time he told me about his business vision and I must admit his ideas sounded impressive. During this visit, it was obvious with the manager/ co-owner like that woman, he would not be able to achieve much. Her behaviour reminded me the darkest times of communism in Poland - no manners, no customer service! Atrocious customer service! Disrespecting customers! Total breach of implementing consumer rights! In fact that female co-owner did not punish me! She punished herself and her business! I can see from other reviews that I am not the only one who left that place unhappy! Also I was considering pre-Christmas lunch with a group of 10 people but for sure we would not come here. Luckily there are other Polish restaurants- e.g. Polka Restaurant in Ealing (I have nothing in common with that restaurant- just visit that place as well and I am always happy with food and service. They have moved to a new specious place recently in Ealing - strongly recommend!) In addition my Christmas food order will not be placed in that cafe either. I hope that manager/owner will take this feedback, consider and eventually change her appalling customer service! Otherwise they will loose more and more customers. Yet, it is not my problem anymore!!!!

Their breakfast has nothong to do with "polish style" Sausage they use is just untasty and has not much meat inside. Im guessing sokolow kabanos has been used for that which is awful and full of chemicals. Will not come back there

Tasty food. Pork chop Schabowy with potatoes and salad. The salad consists of leek and raisins. Additionally, I ate dumplings. Delicious. Cheesecake for dessert. Fingers lickin' good. Cafe Maja has become one of my regular dining spots when I'm in London. Pyszne jedzenie. Schabowy z ziemniakami i surówką. Na surówkę składa się por i rodzynki. Kapitalnie smakuje. Dodatkowo zjadłem pierogi. Rewelacja. Na deser sernik. Palce lizać. Kawiarnia Maja wpisała się w listę moich stałych punktów gastronomicznych kiedy jestem w Londynie.

Fajnia lokalizacja , wrocilbym na deser dlatego 2 gwiazdki.. Ale obiad ? Standardowo , schabowy ziemniaczki i surówka.. Ochydne to malo powiedziedz , Wszystko mdle bez smaku , zero przypraw. Ziemniaki tluczone chyba z woda tylko , Schab bez soli pieprzu Nie wroce , chyba ze na kawe jak bede musial.

absolutely delicious cakes and a nice coffee; this time we were in a mood for a more savoury bite though. We chose simple mix of dumplings, however when 4 tiny items arrived on my mrs plate we felt slightly cheated. At £6.50 they are hands down the most expensive pieces of dough on the planet. Shame. We might still come in again for a cake so 3 stars seems like a good score.

One of my favorite places. Relaxed, informal and still a community resource. Can spend ages over a cup of tea or have a full meal served from behind the counter. Lovely, light feel about the place and as it's part of the Polish Centre you can walk through to other facilities such as a changing art exhibition.

Have bot been for at least 5 months, we usually visit the place for tea and cakes, also for lunch during week days. In this opportunity we visited for cake and tea, the staff has been changed, most of them cannot communicate in English, we ordered two cakes and two teas, when given the cakes we thought the portions have been reduced because our cakes were half the sizes they used to be, my husband was not satisfied so he decides to order a small portion of pierogi...came served on a big plate, no sauce and bit well presented as usual, we called the waitress to requests the missing sauce and she ask us to wait, but she walked away and carry on with talking with the other staff, after 5 minutes we have called another waitress to ask her about the sauce and she was not very friendly, on top of it we saw she was taking cakes for other tables and the cakes were the usual size, we realised polish customers are well treated, they get the food at the right portion size and their food is well presented and that non polish customers like us were not well treated. Definitely a place I would not return in view of the bad service and discriminación non polish customers receive in there.

Delicious beetroot soup with dumplings, herring salads, and strawberry cakes. The tea with rum is most interesting! Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Vibe is peaceful and seatings are comfy. Good!

A gem of a spot. All the food here is excellent, but the barszcz, carrot and beetrrot salads, potato pancakes, stuffed cabbage, and pierogis are standouts! The deserts are good too with the donuts always popular! The staff are always friendly and it has a great neighbourly vibe plus the prices are very reasonable!

Good value. The menu items are very meat and carb heavy, which is very Polish so that is a good representation of the cuisine. Its a shame there aren't more vegetarian mains and aren't more vegetables incorporated into the meat dishes. Cakes are great!

Bardzo miła dziewczyna przy obsłudze .Porcja flaków średniej wielkości 'ale smaczne flaczki i gorące.Porcja bigosu duża i smaczna tak jak i ziemniaczki .Gołąbki też były dobre .Wszystkie potrawy na gorąco .Parę stoliczków na zewnątrz .Czyli ocena pozytywną.

Oh dear :( I’ve been coming to this place for years and usually it’s a delight. I doubt I’ll ever return. Yesterday, the food was not good. Most of the menu was unavailable, same with the cakes and the food we did receive wasn’t great and tasted old. Cabbage rolls with no cabbage, dishes incomplete - I had to prompt to receive the vegetables and pancakes were ok but very greasy. Service was mediocre. And yes the prices had gone up! No wonder it was pretty empty.

Zamowilam golabki dla siebie i męża, flaki dla niego i kotlet dla dziecka. Ja i maz zdążyliśmy zjeść kiedy zostalo przyniesione jedzenie dla dziecka. Czyli jakies 30 minut po naszym jedzeniu. Flaczki to smakowaly jak z torebki, zero smaku. Plus za te ceny to człowiek naprawdę się spidziewa jedzenia z wyzszej polki, czyli zdecydowanie nie polecam !

Great cafe specialising in Polish Cafe cuisine. Everything from a three course meal to coffee and excellent cake. And the great thing is you don't have to be Polish to enjoy it. Entrance from rhe Street and from rhe foyer of the Polish Social and Cultural Centre in which it is housed.

Pytałam czy barszcz robia sami, smakowal jak z kartonu. Kopytka to była mamalyga, sos grzybowy to sama maka, a pierogi z kapusta i grzybami to sam kwas. Najlepszy ze wszystkiego paczek, a te dobre review to chyba maja za same ciasta bo jedzenie było tutaj kiedyś dobre, ale to KIEDYS.

Beautiful location, the owner is really entertaining, it's the real deal full of Italians who know how to cook and serve amazing coffee. The fresh produce they have is spot on. The food is delicious and tasty. I love the location and staff they are very friendly. I felt well taken care of and it was very enjoyable eating here. Unfriendly staff, poor service, below average food. You don't get a smile from the girl behind the counter. Starter and main course arrived the same time without cutlery, we had to chase the waitress for fork and knife so we could eat. Dumplings were good but everything else not so much.

We ordered food as Family of 4 people. Told us that food will be ready within 10mins and after this time we received meal for only 3 people. One of our kid was still waiting for the meal "Pierogi" and unfortunately this was served separate after another 20mins since we received our meal. Try to imagine that everyone from your table eats food and your kid is waiting for meal another 20mins.The food should be served all in the same to one family. Food was good, but just they forgot about my son. That is sad.

I would give them 6stars. They've got best cakes in London. Food is fantastic one of the best caffes I know. There are times that they super busy but for very good reason.

Such a local gem! The goulash served as a special on Friday is just so warming and perfect for a soul filling lunch. Staff are engaging, friendly and knowledgeable, always happy to share their favourites and discuss real polish home style cooking -which I cant resist!

Amazing polish hot dishes and cakes made with love. Borscht, pierogi, pork and cod dishes, and gorgeous baked cheesecakes and coffee cakes. Good coffee too. *Edit: Wifi doesn't really work (cuts in and out constantly) so not really possible for daytime working if that's what you're looking for
