Enjoyed a very good, freshly cooked breakfast at this cafe. We had been before about two years ago whilst on holiday and found that the high standard hasn't changed. Staff were friendly and helpful and we will certainly visit again next time we are in the area.

Called for lunch on a Friday afternoon. We had corned beef pie with chips peas and gravy and hot turkey sandwich with chips and gravy. The drinks arrived very quickly followed by the meals which were absolutely huge. Too big in fact as it was impossible to finish, unfortunately the chips were a little underdone and cut into great big chunks. The turkey was cut in very thick slices and the whole plate was swimming in rich dark gravy. The massive slab of corned beef pie lacked flavour. We would call again as a stop off point when heading north to use the facilities but would only have a drink and small snack next time. Reasonable prices.

Lovely homemade food with friendly service. We had corned beef pie, chicken, ham and mushroom pie, plus scones with jam. All delicious and served by friendly staff. They say they are dog friendly but they only let in two dogs at a time into said designated area which is a small conservatory area. I was offended at the way our party was turned away due to 2 dogs already being in. So why are there four tables in the dog area and why was one table being occupied by people without a dog! You lost EIGHT customers by turning us away and we found a far kinder reception at the Tankerville arms where the staff were far nicer. We never got to enjoy your lovely looking food and you lost eight orders.

Despite advertising as dog friendly we were told on arrival that only 2 dogs were allowed in the place at one time. The member of staff who gave this information was rude and very unfriendly. Their loss. Our party of eight plus four dogs went to the Tankerville Arms in Wooler where we were all made most welcome.

Although looking a bit tired from the outside this cafe was a pleasant surprise inside with smart seating, high quality local produce and gifts for sale as well as a decent menu. The scampi and chips were homemade and not frozen and came with a fresh green side salad, coleslaw and tartare sauce for about 13 pounds and in big portions which even I (someone not known for abstinence) only just managed to finish. Well cooked and the service was pleasant and efficient. The cutlery was basic and condiments were in packets and sachets which was perhaps a minor quibble but otherwise very happy.

A very strange cafe - First we had to order our food before we could check if there were any empty tables, and then when I asked if we could bring our dog in, were told no as there was already the one permitted dog at another table ! We left confused and frustrated - they may be dog friendly but they're not DOGS friendly !

We were en route from Newcastle to Inverness and looking for a stop late morning. Warm welcome, good food and coffee. I had the most delicious cheese scone, served warm. Husband enjoyed a (large) toastie made with local bread, cheese and proper ham and served with a substantial salad. Food on counter also looked delicious but alas it was a very warm day and we had no way of keeping it cool. Highly recommend.

Driving from near Edinburgh to Alnwick, fancied a break, stopped at this cafe, not expecting much. It's great! First, the tea is grand. Veg soup, lovely and enough to swim in. Sausage egg n chips: 2 sausage 2 eggs, and a mountain of wonderful chips, best I've eaten in years. If you're passing this way you'd be daft not to go in.

4 of us had three excellent lunches at cafe Maelmin in a week. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the cafe has a good choice of food including items from the shop for you to enjoy at home. You can sit in the conservatory or outside with your dog ( not sure why you can’t sit in other areas with your dog as the whole cafe has a hard floor ). Certainly if I lived nearer I would be a regular customer.

It was massive, buttered, and absolutely beautiful. After going to the toilet on my way out, I noticed that my table had already been cleared and wiped down - very reassuring with the current ongoing situation.A word of warning though - the address on here is shown as Wooler, but it's actually 6 miles outside of Wooler on the main A697. All the food was home cooked and there was no processed food . They provided dairy free marg and Soya or Almond milk. I was so impressed and definitely coming back again, I can't recommend it enough.
