Buddha Lounge in North Tyneside

This restaurant was a disaster from start to finish. It took 35 minutes just to take our order, and when the food finally came, half of it was missing. They made four attempts to deliver our meals, yet everything arrived at different times. One dish was even labeled as chicken but turned out to be prawns—unacceptable. The food itself was average at best, and the service was inattentive and chaotic. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Like the food, but the service is horrendous. Arrived on time,told because of circumstances could we return, still waited half a hour for food ,again blamed circumstances " When l enquired what the circumstances where, the managerss said " well the riots ! ' ( nearest riots where in Sunderland) unbelievable.

Have you ever tried to call this establishment it says that the number you called is not recognised waste of time!!!!!!!

Really lovely dinner on Thursday night. Nice atmosphere, nice aesthetic, and ambience. Visually satisfying. Nice food and nice attentive and caring staff.

Went for dinner here last night and absolutely loved the place. Could not fault the service or the food. Beef ramen in particular was amazing. Would highly recommend.

Went at the weekend and couldn’t fault the place! Was very busy and turned up earlier than our booking so had a drink at the bar while waiting for our table. Afrooz on the bar was lovely and made some amazing cocktails. Food was reasonably priced and tasted amazing too. Considering how busy they were service was amazing all round. Would definitely recommend and will be booking to go back again soon!

All hype and a waste of money. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY Had a table booked on last night for 7 people. We were squished in to a booth and a single chair at the end (booth should really only be for 4 adults if you want to really eat and drink). The menu is support expensive for what it is providing. I got the half duck and pancakes to share with my wife for £20. The duck was horrible and it wasn't shredded how it should be, instead it was burnt and in chunks which needed working on before you could put into a pancake. Honestly, you can get a half duck pancake sent from all supermarkets now for under £7 and it would be much better. Drinks were flowing so I ordered a pina colada to join in but normally I'm not much of a drinker. They have me pineapple juice and argued there was alcohol in it but eventually the amazing waitress sorted it out. After 30 minutes of finishing 3 starters I had to ask them to clear the table and were ready for mains. We sat down around 18.00 to 18.30 as a group... at 21.00 we still didn't have our mains. Before this we noticed there was something wrong bendy no one was eating in the restaurant. We booked a table across the road and started putting on our coats etc when the main course came out at 21.05. We really wish we just stuck our ground and just left and went to the other restaurant. The food was utter trash. All our dishes lacked flavour. We all left all our food half done and just wanted to get out of the nightmare. The manager came over and did his best with his discounts but we still ended up giving them £200 as we understand it wasn't all the staffs fault but that is still a hard pill to swallow when you spend £200 to sit there for 3 hours and not get any good food to show for it. This place needs to stop focusing on being a party restaurant and actually start making proper food with taste and not serve out dishwater and unseasoned meats. Such a shame but the place has gone down hill and needs to stop scamming people. Worst dining experience I've had in my life but mcdonalds on the way home saved my night.

Service staff great. But after waiting 2 hours for food left, kitchen is embarrassing would advise people to avoid. After years of visiting will never go back. I hope it goes bankrupt and gets better management rather than double booking tables. Multiple customers told to wait at bar for over an hour which has the worst seats, along with the new menu removing anything they can’t quickly reheat. Avoid at all costs

The food was excellent, but always double-check the bill because the staff lady with the glasses made numerous errors on the receipt bills and wanted to charge £20 week supply all together for nothing, thinking she was correct when she said, "Yes, you got the offer paid, but you need to pay that as well," which was not explained in the offer. Luckily the lovely manager lady said to us yes that is a mistake on receipt bill and the lady with the glasses stayed quiet. Furthermore the DJ man for the entertainment needs to improve his songs there are other many buddha lounge songs, he seems to be just staring all around standing still and loving his free pints of beers.

Probably the most unimaginative meal I have ever had. The waiting staff were great! But honest to god, the food is awfully, painfully average. We had the pork and prawn vermicelli which was about as interesting as a packet of Super Noodles. The fact it cost nearly £15 is frankly theft, especially as you need a microscope to find the pork . We also ordered the Salt and Pepper Chips which were basically oven chips and some onion. That was about £7.... The atmosphere was that of a cheap bar. The decision to play techno is a.... Choice.... Lovely loos though.

Mediocre at best. The staff are polite enough and found us a table quickly though we hadn't booked. After that it took forever to bring our food and some dishes were missing (missing from the table that is, not from the bill!). One of our party had to wait 5 mins longer than the others for their meal to be served. The food is ok but nothing you can't easily find elsewhere...the monkfish is actually served with chip-shop curry which has a horrible skin on the top as though it had been under a heat lamp for some time before serving. Yuk. The restaurant space itself is quite original being in a converted church so that does add something. I wouldn't rush back.

I have visited Buddha lounge before for the bottomless brunch and loved it, so recommended it to my family for a Birthday celebration. We arrived to find a DJ playing ear splitting music at 4pm. We were given (after asking) one menu for 4 people! Service was very slow, we waited 35+ minutes for the first drink. We asked two different servers and ended up actually going to the bar ourselves. Two seating/front of house staff dressed in ‘traditional’ dress were too busy faffing about fire eating instead of helping serve drinks and help their colleagues wait tables. The two beers we had in our party were flat! We asked for them to be replaced at the bar, which was chaotic! The entire bar was filled with empty glasses. Starters were delivered about 50 mins in. The poor server said as they were delivering them, “the mains are ready now, if you want them?’ Why would we want mains with the starters? They brought the mains as soon as the starters were cleared and the Szechuan chicken and beef were cold! They had obviously just been sitting on the (not very) hot line while we were eating our starters! We needed more drinks and nobody was coming to the table to serve us. When they did, they didn’t have flutes for prosecco or cocktail glasses for the martinis. One party member went to complain and was met with insolence and rudeness by the Manager! They falsely claimed our party was aggressive and swearing, neither of which was true! The whole party was asked to leave and threatened with the police! Absolutely appalling service! There is a running theme to their reviews..If a party is assertive and will not accept poor service, they are asked to leave and accused of being abusive!?!? They even videoed us leaving, as if to threaten us for complaining!? What kind of operation is this? Disgusting

Made a dinner reservation for 8pm, as soon as we arrived we were told to come back for 8.30. When we were finally seated we ordered drinks which took over 30+ minutes to arrive and the Prosecco was actually a glass of sparkling water. When the glass was returned, a member of staff said ‘oh we thought you were doing the bottomless brunch’. Food order took over an hour and was cold. Manager Michelle was unwilling to speak to us about the service we received and instead called us ‘aggressive’ and tried to escort us off the premises rather than deal with a customer complaint. Staff were great and apologised on her behalf but management is poor and service was disappointing.

Michele the Manager was extremely rude. Despite arriving 15 minutes late, she made us leave 15 minutes early, even though the table wasn’t needed. Michele seemed more interested in punishing us than creating a friendly atmosphere. I won’t be returning, which is a shame because the food is fine.

Ordered starters and they came out and where really nice. 2 tables next of us had been left dirty for 15-20 minutes with waiters walking past and ignoring them. After being sat for over an hour the time was getting to half 9 ( they close at 10) we asked where our mains where. The waitress went off to check and said The chef will start cooking them now. They hadn't recieved the order which the waitress took, we didn't think it was good enough and said we wanted to pay for our starters and leave, they did offer us a free drink however which we turned down. Our experience was negative and we just wanted to leave as it was really late. They did apologise however I would never go back. It's a shame as it was a real good hidden gem back in the day

Lovely food with a good potion size, attentive staff and quiet atmosphere (we went Sunday lunchtime). Chicken Pad Thai was nice although slightly plain tasting but easily fixed with some soy sauce.

We are exceptionally loyal to the Buddha Lounge and have spent a small fortune with them since they joined Just Eat. Last nights meal was probably our best ever. However, we were slightly disappointed to receive two tiny 200ml glass bottles of Coke instead of two 330ml cans, given our loyalty and regular weekly orders I’d have expected a refund and/or four small bottles. The cans are expensive enough so we felt a bit short changed. It won’t stop us ordering again but it left a sour taste.

Great place, food that’s full of flavour, great atmosphere. Place filled up once we arrived and contributed to the great vibe. Server and meals were both timely our only retinue is for dinner the meals were on the smaller side of what we would usually expect. But overall thanks for a great experience.

Disappointed with the food, this place has gone downhill since the last time I visited. Chicken satay was really chewy and the sauce didn’t taste like a satay sauce. It’s a shame as the food used to be really good here. Service was slow. When we arrived we were ignored and stood a while waiting to be greeted and to be shown to our table. I also think the places lacks atmosphere, I won’t be in a hurry to return anytime soon.

Thought would try restaurant again as hadn’t been for a while, used to go regular. Drinks arrived , could tell just looking at Pepsi was wrong half water half Pepsi . Took a while to replace new one. Ordered hot and sour soup which I order every time . Arrived, on stirring I noticed no prawns that it comes with, sent back and told would make a new one. Same soup arrived as I had stirred garnish in , so basically two prawns added, when tasted it was like water. £8 . Asked for manager, offered to replace again or something else. At this point my daughter had nearly finished her food so I just said I don’t want anything . He said I’ll take it off the bill .. really!!! Bill arrived and true to his word he had taken soup off bill which I didn’t have. I asked to speak to him again. Waiter opened kitchen door and said I wanted to see him , he rolled his eyes and heard kitchen staff having a laugh. I asked him if this was a hassle which he replied I’m hear with a sarcastic face expression. I asked if he was going to do something with the bill, iv taken soup off… I obviously went through our experience and was like talking to and trying to explain to a child . After a exchange he reluctantly offered to take to Pepsi off bill , which I refused and paid full bill. This is not a place I will ever return back to.

We ordered at 7.30 on Just Eat, delivery was due at 20:25 and was cancelled at 20:19. Disgraceful to wait till the eleventh hour to do that. Terrible service.

I had salt and pepper chicken to start and Katsu Curry Chicken for main. Great service and value for money. Highly recommend

Booked a table for 6 friends to enjoy the great food at Buddha Lounge. We were shown to our table by a girl who later became the Fireeater. Our whole evening was ruined by the extremely loud club music with its incessant beat that continued for the time we were there. Bizarrely it was louder in the toilets. Our food was as expected but the server missed items off our meal as we had to repeat our order 3 times before they got it. I have been to this place over 30 times but will NEVER return when you continue with the dreadful music. A meal with friends unable to have conversation is not a pleasure. Stop the music, as many others say

Not yet arrived over an hour past the later end of the estimate. No response from the telephone (call failed). Tried number on their web site - no answer.

Rip-off. Food is bland, small and expensive. Much better places out there. The only good thing is the decoration.

They sent us tofu instead of the salt and chilli mock chicken we had requested, the tofu was inedible. The price has also gone up, not worth the money, late and wrong.

Really nice food and a beautiful place. Staffs were very helpful and caring. The only thing we didn't liked much was the volume of thd music. Way toooooo loud and you can’t really have a conversation. The music is suitable for a club, not a restaurant! I hope the manager will take note of this suggestion. Apart from the very loud music, everything else was perfect!

Being honest this was up there with worst Chinese/thai we’ve had, except the schezuan sauce so credit where it’s due. S n p chicken must have gone through the fryer atleast six times, chips… rancid. My curry holy moly wow the salt levels, I’m still gasping 3 hours later. Over priced rubbish. AVOID!

We could not stay. The music was deafening, like a nightclub, not conducive to talk. Terrible. We were so looking forward to it. We left immediately.

Arrived just after 6 pm. i think we were the only diners initially but soon started to get busier. Food was lovely, and cocktails offer 2 for £12 good value. Staff friendly and welcoming. Music was a little loud in the speaker near our table, hard to have a proper conversation, plus I have sensitive hearing, which probably aggravated it. But overall, it was a good experience.

Have been a few times and always enjoyed the food and the service has always been ok but was very disappointed with our last visit. There was a 'DJ' on at 5pm with the volume turned all the way up to 11, we couldn't hear each other speak and the staff couldn't hear us taking our orders and had to keep repeating ourselves. The service was slow and we had to sit and eat our food whilst people were fire spinning around us. The smell of Kerosene was disgusting and not what you want whilst eating a meal. Too expensive for what it is and sadly won't be back.

I did not receive my free salt and chilli chicken z for orders over £35 ..

Fantastic, far better than your typical takeaway.

I have had good lunches here, but this was our first evening meal. The service on a busy bank holiday Saturday was understandably slow and take a Sherpa with you if you need the washrooms, but the food was superb, plentiful and reasonably priced. The bench seating is a tad tight unless you are sylphen. We'll be back tho'. Strangely the tip is included in an evening bill (still optional), but not at lunchtime. Tends to be quiet during the day so no need to book. Special lunchtime menu which has 3 starters and 3 mains. Probably enough choice for most folk. Drinks are a tad expensive, but then it is a bit special. UPDATE 24/04/24 Never noticed before that there is a £4 surcharge on lunchtime bill if you choose prawns. No deserts on menu so went to Allards next door for them and coffee. It has been very quiet at lunchtime over the winter, perhaps because it can be quite chilly. Currently having an interior face-lift.

I am sorry to say but…Unfortunately the food was not very tasty.The chips were hard and tasteless.The lamb ribs were dry,the beef skewers were dry and bland placed in a dish with about 10 shreds of lettuce.We were really looking forward to our delivery but extremely disappointed.Sorry but cannot recommend a delivery from here.

The food was beautiful, however the portion sizes were small for the price. I ordered the Bao Buns, expecting 2 as that's how the menu was written but only ended up with 1 for £7. The service wasn't the best, it wasn't busy and we kept having to remind the waitresses we were waiting for more drinks and the bill

Had the bottomless here today. Two course and drinks. Felt absolutely worth the money, staff were on the ball and I defo had enough drinks with my meal. Great experience and great food. Would defo return. 👌

Thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. We got the sharing platter between 2 of us and it was really good value for money, we were both stuffed! Our server was Emma and she was lovely and so helpful.

Takeaway was shocking. Really expensive for what we got and they didn’t even give us the right dishes. We ordered sweet potato croquettes and got a single bao bun. The sharing platter was pitiful. Won’t be back

Absolutely amazing!! There was 2 of us and we ate and drank so much for only £60. The food was spectacular and the service was fantastic.

Had to ask numerous times for things. All the ladies toilets were out of loo roll and the food was average at best. Such as shame as it’s been ok the last few times we’ve been.

We had another great meal at the Buddha Lounge on Saturday. The food was delicious and served quickly. Jasmine was our waitress and looked after us very well. Several times she came and checked that we were ok and had everything we needed. It is rare these days to get good service so all credit to Jasmine, thanks. Espresso Martinis were great too. The only negative is the music is too loud but we knew about that before we went. Maybe they could create a quieter area for oldies, we are in 60s and took my mother in her 80s.

I don’t know what has happened recently but the food quality has not been as good as normal. I ordered Szechuan chicken and there was no chicken. It was so over cooked that it crumbled in your mouth. Not their usual standard. I’ve ordered this dish a few times now and this is the second time that it was poor. It’s such a shame because I really like this restaurant!!! I didn’t phone them because last time I was told to raise the issue with Just Eat who dismissed my claim.

The worst meal I’ve had. The shared platter was a disgrace. Cold chips and the battered (what ever they were) tasted days old. A NYE treat it was not. All in all, with delivery, £36 in the bin.

The flavours were surprisingly decent. The atmosphere was a little over the top for lunch but made for a great lounge.

Great place to eat, food was delicious, staff friendly and helpful. Popped in to day at lunchtime. Whole experience was just like first visit. Special was worth it and food delicious.

Pretty empty, nice Buddha, food pretty basic even though waitress said it was a big menu. No dessert menu. Didn't get the prawn crackers. Asked 3 times if we needed more drinks.. when we each had 2 full drinks. Greeted by a male in a formal shirt, walked over casually with hands in pockets. Steep stairs to walk into the restaurant and then more to the toilets, hand rails are very oddly low, so very hard for someone in heels to hold onto the handrail.

Very impressed by the Buddha Lounge! We didn't have a reservation but the welcoming staff found us a table within a minute despite it being busy. All the staff were friendly and very attentive. The food was delicious and there were plenty of vegan options. There's a superb offering of drinks too. It's a stunning venue that creates a great atmosphere.

Second time I've eaten at the Buddha lounge and it most definitely doesn't disappoint. Amazing restaurant with amazing food. Next time I'm in the north I will be booking here again. If you haven't eaten here then I highly recommend

Always love coming here, love the food, service and the decor. Down marked atmosphere as we were the only ones in (lunchtime weekday). We had the express lunch, which was hot and delicious!

Gorgeous building. Would like to know its history. Chicken chow mien was not good. Thin noodles with 2 pieces of green pepper. Chicken was warm and then cold in parts. Plenty chicken biy couldn't eat it. Poor staff didn't know how to respond to me when I said the Chicken was cold and I couldn't eat it. She asked did I want to take it home. Staff training obviously needed. Didn't charge me for it. Others in the party enjoyed their food.

Just had starters. All the food was good, apart from the honey spare ribs, which were very fatty and not much actual meet. The waiters in general were polite but the guy showing us to the table and taking our order did not seem to care. He had his hands in his pockets and just seemed a bit aloof and not really interested. For me, having worked in the hospitality industry for years, it seemed a bit strange and detracted from the experience. I would definitely go again but would hope he was not on shift.
