Bangkok Palace in North Tyneside

We ordered a takeout meal via Deliveroo last week. We ordered Thai style noodles, chicken with chilli &Thai basil along with some sides The main dishes were tasteless, very poor. The chicken was very chewy, not enjoyable at all. The rice was stodgy, clumped in balls in sections. The prawn crackers were stale and soggy. Absolutely terrible. We ended up leaving the majority of the food. Very disappointed

First time at this resteraunt booked a table for 3 at 7pm, The food was ok, the service first class, we left about 8-45 during which time we were the only customers,

Just had a lovely meal here. It is my wife's birthday and we went early and had the place all to ourselves. The lady in the kitchen is lovely and the cooking was incredible. I had the Chicken Panang curry and my wife had the Trout with Ginger. And very reasonably priced. We will be back soon.

Fantastic food, fantastic service definitely worth a visit

The food here is really good, we had the beef and ginger which was really tasty and the red Thai curry was probably the best we’ve had (on par with that in Thailand I think) really cute little upstairs restaurant. Will be back!

We had a birthday party at Bankok Palace the food and service couldn’t be faulted . I would highly recommend. The only reason I am giving 4 stars not 5 is because the decor is dated .

I’d definitely recommend eating here! We had the prawn pad Thai and the choo chee curry and the portion sizes were amazing for the price and the food was gorgeous. 10/10 will be going back

Thai food is my favourite and I have never eaten from Bangkok Palace, so I was really looking forward to my takeaway, a change from my usual Chinese. So when this meal arrived I was very disappointed. The food on the whole was bland which is not something you would normally associate with Thai. Except for the basil and chili beef where the beef was like rubber.. such a shame.

Such a shame that the meals were very obviously sauces with whatever meat added at the last minute , in fairness the sauces were tasty but when chicken is just added and tasteless it spoils the meals completely, yellow Thai chicken curry consisted of a few carrots and a bit if chicken, Thai green had peppers, onion and bamboo shoots so was more substantial but less chicken May have been an off night as looked at previous reviews but we won't be back.....

Couldn’t find a local Thai takeaway and eventually found this one. The decor is very tatty and basic- really could do with a refit. But the food was really really good. I ordered pad Thai. It was the perfect balance of sour, sweet, savoury, and light with spring onions, peanuts, fried egg and a slice of lemon. Just the right balance and consistency and delicious without being oily. Really good. Tasted very like the local pad Thai I had in koh toa and kanchanaburi. The only place better in the UK for pad Thai is ting Thai caravan in Edinburgh.

We eat here regularly when we come to stay at our caravan and its always been lovely food and excellent service, would highly recommend.

I always knew this place existed but never actually tried. It was an incredibly hot sunny day, so the rest of Whitley bay were out in the sunshine and my partner and I had the restaurant to ourselves! The waiter was very helpful and talked us through some of the dishes we had never tried before. Food was fresh and delicious. Very reasonably priced for both food and drinks. Probably only about 6 tables inside, so recommend booking if you want to give it a try!

Dropped in whilst away on a business trip. Yes the exterior and entrance is rather tired but do not let that put you off. The service was Quick and food fresh and tasty. Great value for money too. Will return if in the area again.

This is my first takeaway from Bangkok Palace and I am really impressed. Satay chicken was delicious followed by red Thai beef curry. Good size portions with plenty of flavour and good tender meats. This was good value for money, I will definitely eat from here again.

On my first visit I have found that this place is how can I say amazing. I have lived in the area for the past two years and have been aware of this Restaurant but I have never ever been able to get there. This evening I decided to go and have a look. When I got in I asked about gluten-free and was promptly told by the staff that pretty much everything was and they only pointed out the stuff that wasn’t. So I decided being hungry that I would start with a soup followed by a couple of starters and then a main dish. It was very quiet that evening however there was a steady turnover. My food came out quite quickly and was very hot. The flavours were amazing and so were the spices. I have eaten in other restaurants that are chains that sell suppose it Thai food however I have found that this one was not a chain and is independent sells authentic Thai food and the dishes that they supply are very reminiscent of food that I ate in Thailand. It is very reasonably priced and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. My only regret is that I have not been to this place sooner. But I will definitely definitely be going back again and recommending it to friends and family

Absolute perfect food. Fresh ingredients. I was 2 weeks in withley bay and eaten 3 times there. I wish this restaurant and take away is closer to my home. One of the best I ever had. And I travel a lot. I am also a trained chef. Thank you very much.

Great little restaurant, authentic Thai food, fresh and tasty. Lovely staff, very friendly and helpful. If you like Thai food you will like it here and if you haven't tried it yet you must go!

Let me walk you through my experience…… When I entered the floor was extremely sticky. And the place just looks out dated. They do not take COVID into consideration. The menus seem like they have never been wiped down. PERIOD. I ordered lemonade for a drink. The first cup I received had black dots floating in it. I asked for another and it tasted flat. Later on, while eating our mains the waiter asked if we’d like a refill. He brought the bottle of lemonade which looked like it was opened days before because there was no bubbles. I understood THEN why my drink was flat. Do not order the ribs or chicken satay as appetizers. They tasted like they were cooked from frozen. Was just absolutely terrible. It was like it was put in a microwave and placed on a plate. The ONLY good thing on the menu was the green curry with my mother ordered. Honestly, don’t waste your money. It’s over priced and you’ll be drinking detox tea for like the next 5 days to get it out your system. Like what I’m currently doing now -____-

This little restaurant doesn't have a "flashy" frontage, so we almost missed it. It's up one flight of stairs from the street, in a building named Thai House, across the road from the ramp to the Park View shopping centre rooftop car park. Seating capacity is no more than about 30. It's homely but tidy and clean. The prices are very reasonable - £120 for a family of 6, 2 courses each, plus extra dishes, bottle of wine and drinks. The menu is authentic, the cooking is superb, the presentation is A1. The Tom Yum, Thai fishcakes and Pad Thai were classic and the Prawn Crackers were fresh and crisp. The service was friendly and attentive. This place is now one of my strong incentives for holidays in Whitley Bay.

Ordered Chicken Satay skewers, clearly over done in the microwave, chewy and tasteless. Ordered chicken toast, believe me there was no chicken! Just sesame seeds and it’s saying something when I tell you this was the best part of the meal! The rice was cold and watery, the pad Thai- they ran out of sauce and poured vinegar on it instead! The masaman curry was as thin as water and had no taste whatsoever, the chicken was like rubber. Needless to say it all went in the bin with the exception of the toast. What a waste of £22.50. So many businesses have struggled during lockdown, takeaways have never been busier, absolutely disgusted that you would change anyone for this muck. I never complain about anything ever, but I don’t want to see other people spend their hard earned money on this food.

Ordered over the phone and the lady told us 1 hour. Approx 1 hour 40 mins later our meal arrives. All was cold but tasty. Apart from the chips which were cold and chewy. They also didn’t include our prawn crackers which was a disappointment. Not sure if we would go back!?

Regular takeout from here, food is really great. Flavours fantastic, red curry our favourite but everything we have ordered has been of superb quality

I was hesitant to place an order as generally find take to be disappointing. However I was quite hopeful after being advised we could request MSG free food. Unfortunately what we received was as we feared it would be: Soggy and cold batter on battered mushrooms accompanied by the brightest sweet and sour sauce I have ever seen. Barely filled, basic vegetable spring rolls Greasy beef thai green curry. With three chunks of raw pepper. Searched for the egg in the cold egg fried rice. First and last time we will order from here. I would recommend this place for anyone who isn't interested in quality or serious about food. Total waste of money. Maybe the chef could check out Giggling Squid or Rosa's Thai cafe for some example of great Thai food.

No doubt. Food is great and authentic. Also they are keen to know how you like to adjust spicy level and recommend what is best. One of the best in Whitley Bay....!

After a lot of debating whether to write this review or not letting the secret out, here goes... This place is an absolute hidden gem. If you love food and a warm welcoming atmosphere, I would highly recommemd Bangkok Palace. The waitress Boo is an absolute beautiful soul and could not do enough for you. She made us feel so welcome. Thank you for a lovely meal and we will see you again 😍👍🏻

Ordered a takeaway last night. Was told that the restaurant was very busy due to the virus situation. Food was delivered with apologies for lateness. No problem. Excellent red Thai curry and jungle curry. Both with steamed rice. Worth the wait. Deserves a good review. Hope that they are kept busy during the current crisis.

I've had their food a few times and as a takeout it's fine. That's not the same for the upstairs restaurant tho. Maybe I just chose badly... but it was poor tasting. In addition, I was the only person in there, and that's nearly the same as last time I went there 5 ish years back with a few friends - we were the only people there. My advice... get takeout, dont go in. It's not helped by being upstairs either.. might do better on a ground floor, but for now it's a no for me.

I visited the restaurant with my partner this week. We wandered past and noticed there was a 2 course special for £8.95pp so decided to save tea for another night. We have recently been to Thailand and we have high standards, and I can say we weren’t disappointed. We had chicken satay and spring rolls to start. Both were fresh and tasty, served with delicious sauces. We then had yellow curry and red curry, served with rice. Again, full of flavour and spice, yum! Yes, the decor needs updating, but based on the quality and value of the food, combined with the friendly, attentive service, we’ll definitely go back. A nice mid week treat!

My partner and I visited this restaurant for the first time in ages on Sunday. It was very quiet but the service was quick, friendly and excellent. The food tasted great. A special 2 course menu is available at £8.95 which we chose. We had satay chicken, spring rolls, Thai red curry, chicken with chilli and basil and all tasted excellent. Bottles of Singha at £3.50 and house wine at £10.95. An excellent night. A pity it was quiet but it didn’t matter. The food tasted great.

Reasonable prices, friendly staff, quiet, only one drawback is the stairs which may put some people off, not on ground floor. We enjoy going there. Disappointed it no longer opens lunchtime, higher prices in evening.

Ordered a take away last night. It was the first time in ages as the last one was a disappointment. This time it was better. Good value and good sized portions. We had Thai Red curry, jungle curry and two portions of sticky rice delivered for £16. We would use again.

The food was nice chicken a little tough and the price for what you get isn't enough. We got the spring rolls for 3.95 and you only get 4 small ones for that price. For nearly 4 quid you should have got atleast 6. Food was nice just a bit over priced for what you get and the chicken needs cooking different to make it more tender

Excellent all round meal there was 4 of us and not one of us was disappointed the food was so fresh and tasty nice friendly staff too , definitely worth a visit

The place is just transparent through and through what you see is what you get they do take aways but it’s always a pleasure sitting in- staff are friendly and very attentive The food is unlike any other Thai around

What a cute little place. No frills, great service, such good value! I would highly recommend. Came out stuffed and had 3 courses and a beer each for £18! Can’t say better than that.

Visited with friends we have been on several occasions and we are never disappointed. The food is always fresh and delicious and excellent prices. The staff are friendly and cant do enough for you. A hidden gem in Whitley Bay should definately pay a visit if you are in the area.

Dined there Friday 5th July. Food was excellent and service prompt and friendly. I cannot believe this place isn't rammed. Only very slight suggestion would be improve standard of coffee. If ever over here again I would ho back in to eat

We love this restaurant but were caught out yesterday when we went for my birthday treat. Despite a notice on the door and info on the web site that it opens every day of the week at 5:30 pm, it was closed when we went at about 7:00 pm. When I phoned today, I was told that it is closed on Tuesdays. I wonder how many diners it has lost because of wrong info. I don't want to give it a low rating because the food and staff are excellent but .................

This was the worst takeaway I’ve ever had - ever! The sweet and sour sauce was like water, the satay chicken tasted old. The beef dish was like a Sunday dinner cooked in the same bowl of very watery gravy. The red Thai curry was simply spiced and had no real flavour.

It was very nice hotel to stay in , special thanks to Mr Pairoj bell who was very friendly and helpful to us.

Great value delicious food. Red thai curry amazing.

I visit this restaurant regularly. It has a friendly atmosphere, and while the decor/bar is not palatial that's exactly the point, with instead an easy informality that is laid back and contributes to its character. The stir fry's are excellent, full of goodness and flavour, with a spice/chilli level cooked to individual request that never fails. And good beers. Plus value is outstanding. Sometimes I'll drop in alone, or with my wife, or friends, and have brought a party of 25 here -- without exception, a visit here is always a pleasure. This place is a hidden gem if you like proper Thai food in laid back surrounds.

Had a meal here in the restaurant and what a disappointment. Ordered the set meal for two and waited half an hour for the soup to arrive which was tasteless and resembled dishwater .Appetisers were next looked like they had been cooked from frozen with no taste.Mains were shocking stir fried vegetables swimming in a liquid, beef with oyster sauce which was uneatable after two mouthfuls and red curry with chicken . I can only think the chicken had been cooked several days prior before being thrown in the red liquid to try and revive it. The worst was when my wife had to spit out onion into her serviette and we came to realise all the onion in the dishes was sour

Visited on a Saturday evening for an early supper. Unfortunately it was a poor decision and a bad experience from start to finish. The restaurant is grim and lacks any atmosphere or personality and the food is worse. We paid £15.95 pp for a set meal which was inedible. The starter soup was tasteless and the main meal that followed was simply disgusting; the vegetable stirfry contained vegetables that were obviously past their best and sour. The beef and chicken dishes were like nothing I have tasted before - rank. I am sorry to say that I could not stay in the place any longer and paid the bill and left without complaint. This is not acceptable standards.

Beautiful lunch today. Our first visit and we rocked up 2 minutes before closing (unintentionally). We were made to feel more than welcome, had wonderful chats about Thailand with the owners and the food, well that was absolutely amazing. We had the 3 course lunchtime special which is brilliant value. We will be back (not right on closing next time)

My husband and I were staying in the area and after reading decent reviews we decided to visit.

Passed here on the bus frequently and been desperate to try! Do not let the decor put you off, the food is delicious. We both had tom yum soup for starter, one king prawn and one chicken. Both were absolutely delicious and spicy I wish I had this for a main course as I enjoyed it so much. For mains we had vegetable masaman curry, my partner had stir fried beef in oyster sauce (not a dish I would pick being a pescatarian however I tried the sauce and it seemed tasty!) we shared 2 sides, plain rice and noodles. I had a large glass of wine and my partner had 2 beers and the total bill came to £35! I was shocked, so cheap!! Don’t get me wrong this is a very different style to some of the larger chain style Thai restaurants in Newcastle (Chaophrya etc.) but this definitely has a more authentic feel to it. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was in my curry there seemed to be some large pieces of bread. This could be something more traditional in Thai cuisine but I’d never had it like that before but not to worry I’d just ask for it without next time.

We planned on going to an Italian restaurant nearby and had a random change of mind. The place was empty for a Friday night. It concerned me because I thought 1- maybe it's not a very good place to eat and 2- what if the food isn't that fresh. Both couldn't be further from the truth. It's a shame it wasn't busier as the food was delicious (Red Thai curry & battered veggies for starter). The older lady who served us (and worked in the kitchen) was both kind and adorable.

Had a lovely meal from the evening special menu. £7.95 for 2 courses. A good selection of veggie options. Really tasty food. The dining area is nice and simple but the rest could do with a revamp however this wouldn't put me off going back. Maybe spruce up the entrance to entice more visitors. Really handy for pre cinema food as on the same road as the local cinema.

Well. The thai green curry I had was the worst thai food i have ever eaten. The chicken was dry and tasted very odd. It had no evidence of thai herbs in it and was flavoured with too much salt and red chilli flakes. There were rough chunks of uncooked green pepper in it. I dont know how they called that thai green curry. It was an insult to anyone's palate. I ate it as I was with a dear friend who likes it there and didn't want to make a fuss. If i had not been so hungry and short on time I would have walked out. The toilets are a disgrace, no hot water in the gents with a sticker on saying out of order on the electric water heater and the loo itself looks as if it has rarely seen bleach and I won't even mention how vile the underside of the toilet seat looked. It was shocking. I am not a fussy person but this place left me disgusted.

This is a review of a takeaway so can't comment on service but the food we had was very poor. All the chicken used was so dry, obviously been cooked for too long. The curry was watery and had an overpowering taste of fish sauce. Portions were also small and not good value for money. Was really annoyed that I'd wasted my money.

Food late as resturaunt was closed this i found out was no fault of theirs but a problem with just eat software.the resuraunt is closed on a tuesday but.just eat does not show that.so we got our food 24hours late.i will.say the food was great.i will order again but not on a tuesday haha

As delicious as ever, the only takeaway I order where there are Zero leftovers

Truly the worst Thai food I have ever had and I had to wait over an hour to get it! The vegetables in batter were huge balls of lukewarm stodgy batter with little or no vegetables in them (seriously, one was just batter). The springs rolls were 95% roll with hardly any filling. The pad thai noodles were disgusting, my cat didn't even want them. They were lukewarm noodles all stuck together with hardly any vegetables and a little bit of fish sauce and stale peanuts. Seriously. Thai food is fresh with lots of flavours and this was just lukewarm mush, I am throwing away 80%, I would've thrown away more, but I was really hungry, because I had waited so long for it.

Ordered satay , soup and stir fry. Satay was v dry and not upto mark. Chicken soup had a distaste and we ended up throwing it

The meal deal said it was red curry and a beef oyster.. Only got a red curry. Plus the starter of pork bread ended up being sesame toast

We have only used this as a takeaway but as keen fans of Thai food we are always confident we will eat good quality, freshly prepared food.

over half an hour late, restaurant wouldn't answer after ringing for 5 minutes to find out where the food was. Delivery driver was friendly enough but the food wasn't very good quality

When the food eventually arrived it was lovely. An hour and half after placing my order I rang the restaurant and they admitted they hadn't even started my order and had done by the end of the phone call. Blamed being busy but they clearly forgot. £2 compensation for the delivery is a joke considering the food took two hours to arrive. Shame because the food was alright in the end.

Ordered a takeaway from here at 6:30 they said it would arrive by 7:15 ... by 8:15 still hadn't arrived! What a joke!!! Called up a few time each time they said it'll be 10 minutes. Don't usually write bad reviews but ruined my evening as I had ordered a takeaway to treat myself after having an already bad day !
