DISGUSTING,Avoid at all costs. You could see and taste the grease on the chips. The open prawn "sandwich"(at least, that's what I ordered, what arrived was as far removed from a sandwich as could be imagined, had a small handful of prawns which before I tried to eat I had to remove almost a tub of Marie rose sauce;as for the service where do I start, the tables were dirty ,the "food" arrived in dribs and drabs and clearly the staff have no idea how to make a flat white. If you are ever tempted to go here DON'T,walk on by.

Called here for a quick bite of lunch, very pleasantly surprised by the lovely welcome. Food was served up quickly with minimum fuss and was great. Panini came with great side salad and tuna sandwiches were well filled and delicious. Try the Apple pie to die for, with a huge scoop of ice-cream. Yum.

Brown Sugar serves a wide variety of hot food, daily specials, salads, sandwiches, wraps, paninis, coffees and sweets. It could be considered on the pricier side, but the food is fresh, delicious and you get a large portion. Staff are pleasant, professional and helpful.

We met up here with old friends, as Cookstown is about half way between their home in Armagh, and ours in Coleraine. We had never eaten there before, but decided to give it a try. All five of us were very satisfied with the good food, and the very warm and friendly service we received. The restaurant is on the main street in the town, and there is plenty of street parking there. I would certainly recommend it as good location for good food, at a reasonable price, with good service too. It was a very cool Winter day, with snow showers, but the welcome was warm, and the food well cooked and hot. We all had two courses, and the portions were very generous.

heard so much about this place had to try. sorry but not impressed. very confusing.. most cafe restaurants have menus at table and someone to serve. order at counter and dont matter if your a big gang (yes confusing having to walk up to counter and ordering for a number of people). Did not see a sign to say this and after many staff just walking by and us sitting for 15 mins had to ask what the score was. Be advised for the prices unlike the other local eateries you dont get even a tiny side of lettuce This is all extra. so a wrap for 4.95 add a few chips and little bit of slaw works out at 7.45.... rip off. then having got food half way through no drinks had arrived had to ask. poor value poor customer service . sorry

I went in here one day out of the blue and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious and filling salad I had gotten. The hot chocolate was beautiful and I made a point of going back several times. The next few trips were hot food and I had a great meal of scampi, chips and tartar "with lots of side salad" and the pan fried chicken with mushroom sauce was unbelievable.

Had Sunday brunch. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the food was delicious. I ordered quiche with salad, and the selection available for the salad was very impressive - not just the usual boring lettuce and tomato! The prices were very reasonable too.

Called here with my 2 wee girls for lunch. I ordered kids goujons and chips and asked for them to come out on separate plates as one eats goujons and the other eats chips. The food arrived on the same plate and I asked again for another plate-it was dirty and I asked the waitress to replace it. She did so but without an apology. My wee girl cut into the goujon and it shot of the plate - certainly overcooked. I ordered a sausage roll and coleslaw with a few chips on the side. The menu board stated that this cost £2.50 with chips being extra. However when I paid the bill the waitress said coleslaw wasn't included and was an extra 60p-I wasn't going to argue over that but my bill in total was £15.15! Drinks were overpriced and warm even though they came out of the fridge! £1.20 for small bottle of water and £1 for a fruit shoot!! Def will not return as other restaurants ofter better quality food for the same price!

I've eaten here 3 times in the last couple of months, twice at lunch time, once in the evening. The day time was a lovely surprise! Literally too much to choose from, and artisanal breads that looked fantastic. The first lunch I had soup, which was delicious, the second I had a prawn salad, which was disappointing with the lack of actual 'salad' as in lettuce etc, a lot of pasta and potatoes, but the arena were fresh and clean and delicious. It was that good, I thought let's take the family for the evening meal instead of McDonald's, they do a build a burger after 5pm. Didn't realise that's all they did! I am a pescaterian, the only choice for me was a vege burger, which was cauliflower and cheese, and so incredibly greasy. The meat burgers were equally greasy and the wait was extremely long for how busy the place was. The 'side salad' was massive and fully of pasta, which isn't salad!!!I would definitely recommend for a day time meal, it was fresh and tasty and cheap. The evening was better value than mcdonalds, but I'm not convinced better for you!

Had lunch here and was very disappointed, lettuce was wilted and discoloured red onion was grey and really put me off the small salad which cost far too much, I definitely wouldn't eat here again and wouldn't recommend this café.

We were in recently and the staff member that served us had on a watch and very obviously painted fake nails. She didn't put on gloves for handling the food or wash them between serving at the till. There is no point in having a temperature probe when the staff walk off to serve food and leave the steamer running and serve the coffee warm. Tables were dirty and staff had no apparent interest in cleaning them. I can't comment on the food as we didn't have any.

My partner & visited today and we ordered the following. Soup. Scrambled egg, beans, hash brown with toast. Quiche & Side Salad and a bottle of water. Total £16.20.This establishment is in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone and £16.20 is away over the top for what we got in my opinion. The girl behind the counter taking the order was a clock watcher as I like to call them (what time do I finish work). My Quiche arrived along with my partners scramble egg and we were told, "your toast will be along soon". 5 to 7 minutes later the toast arrived, egg cold by that stage. As you can see by the receipt they added a miscellaneous item, what was this? My partner substituted the bacon for beans which was £3.75 on their menu, but as the receipt shows they charged £4.50.All in all, it sadness me to say, I won't be back simply because I couldn't afford to eat here. 4/10 for overall rating.

I eat in Brown Sugar quite often. Its a very good cafe, its consistent. You order at the counter from the big black boards, pay at the till and take a seat and in no time at all your meal is in front of you. To the person that thinks a 4 grade is not ok. I would like to say that a 4 means "GOOD" and it has nothing to do with the cooking of the food or presentation.

I have been eating in Brown Sugar regularly and I have to say I have never had a bad feed ever. Tonight was no exception to that rule.We decided to go here for our Saturday evening tea as they have just opened their own Build Your Own Burger and I have to say it was amazing. Having eaten in many burger joints, what we had tonight was as good as the best I have eaten in any of these. The burgers were huge and very tasty, as too were the salad and chunky fries. They also do a mighty fine baked cheesecake. Also the staff we're friendly and very helpful, as they always are.If you want a tasty feed in Cookstown I would honestly say that Brown Sugar is the number one spot without a doubt, I can't recommend it high enough.

We arrived in Cookstown this morning after a long journey. We unfortunately happened upon this establishment, and as we were time limited we popped in. On arrival, the staff were indifferent to our presence. We ordered 2 breakfasts and coffee. Not a smile or a cheery word for us, we took our seats. After 20 mins my food arrived, my husband's, 6 mins later. We had ordered the same cooked breakfast. Plates hot - food cold. My hash browns still frozen in the middle and greasy on the outside. Time not on our side, I mentioned the glacial fayre to our patron as we left. She barely looked up from cutting the traybakes and said "you should have told me at the time". No apology. The awful food is not cheap and the service appalling.

On a recent day trip with my elderly mum and two teenage daughters we stopped in the market town of Cookstown in hope of a decent mid-morning tea break. I parked the car in the main street and decided to walk down the street in search of a coffee shop as my mum is disabled and unable to walk far.A few local ladies were standing in a queue at a cash point so I asked them to point me in the direction of a decent place for morning tea. They said there was a place just up the street which should be alright. On arrival at Brown Sugar we were greeted at a counter by a staff member who said if we wanted hot food to move on down to the other counter round the side. I informed her that we just wanted tea and a biscuit/cake. She promptly set a tray onto the counter and asked what we wanted, I noticed that her uniform was a bit scruffy and thought it could do with a wash, but as we had my mum with us I said nothing to the rest of the family. Next to my horror the waitress put two chipped plates onto the tray for my mums biscuit and daughters traybake. The plates were visibly chipped around the rims. Our tea came next and when the cups came, I couldn't belive the state of them. They were meant to be white in colour but were a grey, coffee stained colour with visible hairline cracks...unbelievable in this day and age. Furthermore we witnessed the waitress lift a piece of breaded chicken ( which was uncovered and sitting on top of a display cabinet) with her fingers and start to eat it.!!Needless to say we left the establishment without tea or cakes. It had cost over £8 for 4 tea and two tray bakes, but you would not risk eating or drinking in this place.I noticed on the way out that it had a 4 hygiene rate, well that must have been a long time ago as I'm sure if a Health Inspector visited this place now it would be closed immediately.

My partner, her dad our 7 month old baby and myself went in for lunch today, I did notice on the window that it only had a hygiene rating of four however we were all Hungary and to my astonishment there were people actually sitting eating in it. There were a few things that annoyed me like no menus on the tables and the tables not cleaned after each customer, however... ROTTING CARROTS AND FRUIT placed in a display fridge. The carrots actually had white hair all over them they had to have been there for weeks, so this fridge situated right next to the salad bar were people were ordering supposed fresh sandwiches, how had nobody said anything before now. My partners father near vomited!!
