A really good, traditional village pub, more like you’d get in *whispers* England that the west of Scotland. Three real ales were on when I visited, with one finishing and another pulled right through. The beer garden looked incredible, but as it was a chilly March evening we opted to stay inside and enjoy the heat from the real fire. Children welcome in the bar till 20:00 which is very handy. Can’t wait to return.

I visited the Brown Bull with my dad and brothers for a midweek catch-up just before Christmas, thanks to a few taxi pick ups from Glasgow. We were greeted with a selection of great ales, the fireplace in full swing and a couple of well-behaved dogs walking around. Excellent friendly service, everything as safe as it can be with distancing and cleaning too - brilliant pub!

This was my first venture after lockdown. Couldn't have been better. Lovely old building and bar. Incredibly friendly welcome from the owners who was cleaning constantly. The whole thing felt safe. The food was lovely ... real chips! Newly made awesome fish cakes. They have a great garden for eating and drinking outside. Highly recommend this if you are on a trip to the area. Very dog friendly which is a bonus.

The brown bull is looking great with its new face-lift. It was lovely to return to this fantastic village pub and feel safe and comfortable with all the new measures in place. The pub is looking so fresh and funky! It was so nice to chat to Julie and Laura Rose who were working hard behind the bar to keep the customers served but still make time to chat to people. Well done to all in brown bull who have worked so hard to get back to providing this to service to all. Just returned from Lochwinnoch and we went to The Brown Bull every day! There’s very little to not love about the pub unless you have a preference for Wetherspoons style soulless corporate places. The food was great and incredibly well cooked and presented for the price. As ever, the best thing was the people, both staff and locals who made us feel very welcome.

I have been here before and it was great. However they have recently outdone their selves by introducing an adventurous and ambitious taster style menu served by a very pleasant young lady. The kitchen were certainly getting creative and for a relatively modest cost £25.00 each you got a variety of flavours and dishes. We really enjoyed it.

Visited on a quiet Wednesday evening for some food. Were greeted by cheerful barmaid on entering. Got a drink and went out to beer garden to look over menu. Ordered food, which sadly can't be served outside, and returned to beer garden. The barmaid kindly gave us a shout when food was ready, so we could go back inside. Food was great, and served very quickly. Varied menu, and caters for vegetarians pretty well. Back to the "quirky" beer garden for another drink. Great wee pub, will definitely return. Beer? The usual staples and a great variety of Ales. Cozy, friendly atmosphere, with live gigs if you're up for a good night out. Lunch is well priced and beautifully cooked. I had the fish and chips (always a good test in my mind!) Delicious...! We just had an anniversary dinner in the restaurant upstairs. The chef does small "tester" portions as part of the set menu. The menu is imaginative and well put together. I had Bream (never had it before) and it was delicious, and the desserts are to die for. Chocolate cream cheese with just about every sort of taste of chocolate in it! You pay for what you get and this is worth every penny.

After a horrific meal recently at the Loch house nearby which really spoiled a family birthday celebration, I am delighted to have found somewhere local at last that actually can cook! I am so fed up being ripped off for microwaved, deepfried, reheated ready bought in food. This chef takes a pride in what he serves up to his customers. I've lived in Lochwinnoch for 18 months now and whilst I am a frequent visitor to the pub and its bar snacks, I've never been to the upstairs restaurant until tonight. A busy pub downstairs, yet an ambient calm atmosphere upstairs. We had a both, that probably could sit four, but was luxurious for two. The house wine, as always, is really reasonably priced at £11 per bottle and the service from Andrew was outstanding. Even though we feel we've gotten to know this pub so well downstairs, it was a complete revelation to enjoy the upstairs dining experience. The set meal for three courses was £25, but what we didn't realise is that there are a couple of appetizers(or amuse bouches) first. As vegetarians, we checked what these were. I have quite a small appetite, so was aware I didn't want to fill myself up too much beforehand. We had a couple of veggie haggis and green pea balls with sugared beetroot, followed by a mustard and cabbage soup. I'm also a relatively conservative eater and renowned for eating anything veggie as long as it's covered in cheese sauce. With no cheese sauce present throughout our meal, I was astounded by the combination of flavours. Then it was time for our starter, a parsnip parcel with some sort of amazing sauce. It wasn't too filling, which I was pleased about, as that left room for our main course. The veggie option was a combination of Salsify (an education for me that this is a delicious root veg), leeks, carrots and spinach with an orange glaze. It all worked perfectly, and if anything I would have enjoyed more as the main, but at least it meant I had room for a dessert. This was basically a deconstructed trifle and utterly delicious. It's got to be the first time in a while that I've cleared every plate. I can't recommend this eaterie highly enough. Full marks to the chef and staff.

The Brown Bull was a regular haunt of mine when as a student in 1959 I spent the summer in Lochwinnoch doing vacation work at Muirshiel Mine in the hills beyond the town. The excellence of the pub, it's atmosphere, it's charm and it's warmth have always held in my heart, and I was only too delighted to have the opportunity to visit the Brown Bull again in February 2019, 60 years later. I was not disappointed - there have been changes of course, but the feel and character of the establishment are all that they were and Always have been. This is a great pub to be enjoyed, with fine staff and a quality kitchen and menu. Long may the Brown Bull thrive and welcome both locals and travellers.

Our new neighbours on one side raved about this place, but our neighbours on the other side told us to avoid it with a bargepole. So we thought we'd make our own mind up and gave it a go for lunch. It's a nice pub, with a beer garden out back. Lunch was a bit disappointingly small, and my wifes burger was okay but could have been cooked with more attention. Also, though I don't have a problem with dogs in pubs, retrieving a few canine hairs off my plate was a bit odd. Drinks were good, and service was friendly. Keeping an open verdict until we've tried the dinner, which is apparently upstairs (we didn't see).

I’m reluctant to say just how good the food is as I always want to be able to eat here! It would, however, be very unfair not to highlight the skill of the chef and the excellence of his menu choices.Food is seasonal and market- driven. The menu and the realisation of each dish are worthy of a city centre restaurant. The fact Lochwinnoch has such culinary excellence is not lost on locals who no longer need to order taxis into the city but who enjoy the great wine and food in the restaurant of The Brown Bull before walking home!

Had lunch here as a party of 3 in the bar. Overpriced, tiny portions. Take my advice and go round the corner to the Three Churches for food. The Bull is losing custom as can be seen in the kitchen opening hours. Time for a serious rethink and provide the village with hearty fare instead of massaging a chef's ego.

As regular visitors to the brown bull it's usually difficult to get a table at short notice but was surprised to find they could fit three in on a Saturday night, now I know why.The restaraunts was virtually empty and the menu very limited to only four main courses one fish one lamb a veggie or a steak, they pad the menu out with free tasters a small oatmeal biscuit with cheese and a small bowl of soup this meant to lull you into thinking you are getting value for money but a steak has a three pound supplement plus two fifty for a sauce which makes a twenty pound two course twenty five fifty. With a couple of drinks a two course meal for three was £106.50 not in my opinion value for money as the steaks come with two onion rings a mushroom and three cherry tomatoes plus I think I counted four chips not a hearty portion. I don't think the brown bull will be seeing us in the near future very dissapointed as it was one of our favourite places to eat in the area.

So we decided to get some other food....i was pretty disappointed. I got a chicken mayo salad.....this was chicken mayo, 3 slices of tomato and lettuce....not what i would call a salad really. A friend had a toastie and one side of the bread was massive with very little cheese on it. So i don't think i'd go back for a bite to eat, however as i said, the chips were amazing. Plus they allow dogs - so that earns an extra star in my book any day!

And we have to give a special mention to the chocolate roulade! The staff were extremely pleasant and attentive and very knowledgeable when it came to the menu. The atmosphere in the pub below made it completely impossible to leave without enjoying a couple of after dinner drinks! The whole evening was fantastic value for money and we can't wait to return to sample the Autumn menu!

This quaint building in Lochwinnoch is extremely popular with local people. There are no gimmicks merely pleasant company and good , attractive food . It has also recently won an award for being the friendliest pub in Scotland.

Atmospheric bar with a good selection of real ales.Staff were very nice.My husband and I went upstairs to the restaurant which again was atmospheric. We ordered our meal but found the portions to be very small. For example - A bowl of Soup of the Day amounted to 6 spoonfulsThe main course was also very small, expensive and worse, tasteless. Its a cracking pub but, oh, the food !!

Anniversary meal upstairs. Limited menu, miniscule portions, yet pricey. I could barely cut my meat let alone chew it. Only redeeming factor is it's not far to travel to McDonalds!

The Brown Bull in Lochwinnoch has won the contest to be named Scotland's Pub of the Year for 2016 - and it's a worthy winner. Great food and drink, great atmosphere, live music at weekends. What's not to like?

After talking about it for so long Laura we finally made it for a bar meal this week. You were right, it was delicious. Excellent varied menu at fair prices although the desserts seemed a little expensive.. Our appetites are whetted and we will be back for more. My brother-in-law, a lifelong connoisseur of traditional pubs, loved everything about the Bull on this his first visit and wishes it was on his own doorstep. I wouldn't mind that as he long as he is not on mine!!!!! Only kidding. Iain

I'm a fairly regular visitor to the Brown Bull for a pint with the girls, but Sunday was my first visit for food. We'd heard great things so were a bit surprised that Sunday's menu was limited to only a handful of dishes - two of which they were out of, along with all their desserts! The food was tasty, but quite small portions and not very warm. Drink, as always was fantastic but just a bit disappointed in the food selection. Will be back next weekend for a drink though!!

I'm fairly new to this part of the world and have enjoyed the bar in the Brown Bull on many occasions... friendly staff, welcoming local customers, great beers (including constantly changing range of ales) and high quality live music about once a month, etc… what's not to like? However, I was more than pleasantly surprised when I ate in upstairs restaurant this week, with my daughter and a number of friends. Quite simply, it was outstanding... going well beyond what one might normally expect in a village restaurant.Starters included roasted guinea fowl and fairly exotic barley risotto with mint broth. I had the guinea fowl which was delicious, but I have to say there were also very happy noises coming form my fellow dinners who chose differently. For the mains, there was a wonderful 'fish of the day' (hake, as I recall, served with shellfish in a seafood emulsion)... having chosen this dish, I can speak with some confidence regarding the skill of the chef. My guests also waxed lyrically about their perfectly cooked steak and chicken dishes.Persuaded perhaps by the excellent wine (the price of which was much less than one would normally expect to pay – we had a great Rioja for less than £15) we sampled the deserts, which easily maintained the high standards set by the starters and mains. In short, great food, in served lovely atmosphere, by attentive and knowledgeable staff… we will be back!

Lovely food, excellent presentation, faultless service but tiny portions. I'm under 12 stones but an hour after eating two courses there I was hungry again. C'mon guys - ONE tiny slice of guinea fowl in the starter?

Yet again Laura and her team did not let us down. 7 of us for my birthday lunch. Lovely fresh food and no quibbling over my food requirements. Top notch. A definite must. Will never understand negative reviews as have never yet been let down.

Read the reviews and decided to give this place a try. Freezing cold inside despite log burner, wood and stone interior not particularly clean, smelly pub dogs and we had the misfrotune to observe and overhear a loud, rude, landlord. Lacked atmosphere. Uninviting.

We were extremely fortunate to dine at the Brown Bull during our trip to Lochwinnoch. The food was fresh, wonderfully prepared by the chef at an excellent price. If you are near the Brown Bull and want a great dining experience I recommend this place. The Brown Bull pub downstairs is an excellent Scottish pub with warm locals and a great select of drinks.

Me and a friend popped into this pub after dumping our bikes after a long cycle and were pleasantly surprised by the choice of craft beers and scottish seafood. Would definitely go again if I was in the area.

Just back. Popped in with wife and 14 month old daughter for a cheeky wee lunch. Expected standard pub food, got far better. The food was really well priced and exceptionally well done. The pub itself is a traditional old Scottish pub with a first class choice of beers, the staff were lovely and as said the food was first class. I will be back and it will be before long. Thanks folks, looking forward to returning already.

A very friendly and well-run village local that is very clearly the hub of the community. A warm welcome awaits and the hand-pulled cask beer is very well kept. I haven't been in for food but assuming it is of the same standard as everything else it won't be long before I come again to try it. Two delightful pub dogs must not be given tit-bits; they will ask but have been well-trained not to pester if you say no. Tuesday night pub quiz is keenly contested and makes a very good evening out.

We had a family gathering this weekend organised by my nephew. The Bull was everyone's first choice. There were 20 of us but Laura was still willing to accommodate us. We pre-ordered a variety of different meals from the bar menu. The food was served timeously, it was freshly cooked and, most importantly, absolutely delicious. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Love this wee place. It never fails :-)

My son and I were visiting family who live in the village. We really enjoyed our several visits to the Brown Bull and the staff and owner Laura could not have been friendlier. Trivia night was a blast even if we knew nothing about British football or rugby and rumour has it you can even win "Pub Pounds" if you finish as a top team. Sadly due to the lack of hockey and accurate Canadian questions we never found out, but we shall return to try again. If you are in the area do try the Bull, it is a historic building filled with friendly people and lots of drink choices. Next time I will try the food, especially if I win some Pub Bucks... Thanks Laura and staff for making our visits always enjoyable.

Stopped here yesterday for a meal and a drink four of us enjoyed our dinner. We haven't been here for a few years but were not disappointed. Two of us had fish and chips, lovely large portion of fish which was delicious. Chicken katsu was also very tasty. 10 out of 10 also for the staff who were very attentive.
