Had such a lovely experience at the British oak pub Sam the bar staff was superb and Jordan the chef cooked yummy food

Friendly staff, great service and food. Steak cooked to perfection! Made a nieces 11th birthday extra special - thanks Jordan and Ryan!

We stayed here for two nights in the carpark in our motorhome. Phoned first to check if it was ok and Lisa the landlady said it was no problem. The staff here are so welcoming and friendly couldn't do enough for us. The food is superb and good sized portions. Can't rate this place highly enough

My mother and friend have recently visited the pub for lunch on 12/03/25. They were both impressed with the standard of the food and service they received. This made possible by the service of Ryan who was professional and friendly making it a great experience.

Booked an evening meal for family of 5 a couple of hours in advance on a Saturday. Restaurant was well laid out, lovely and clean, lots of families in there but not rowdy. Nice genuinely welcoming atmosphere .There's an outside area to let the kids have a play while they wait too. Seating was comfortable and plenty of space. We ordered starters and mains. All starters came out together within a few minutes and mains followed in a really impressive time too. Good portions, freshly cooked and even the little one ate absolutely everything. Came in at around £35 a head and we had 3 courses, additional sharer sides, cocktails and 2 drinks each. Everyone told me we have to come back and try more of the meals! Thank you for a lovely meal.

Lovely carvery, lovely staff lovely Pub. Forward booked as we had a wheelchair user with us. Staff were lovely very accommodating, very friendly. Sunday Roasts were lovely 2 x chicken and 1 x beef. Generous and very well presented. Lovely atmosphere, we will return.

Excellent good and service didn't rush us to leave the table and as we had over ordered we were able to borrow a plate and dish to take the food home which was beautiful. As promised I returned the plate and dish on Monday

Staff were extremely rude, haven't been treated so poorly anywhere.

We attended after school for world book day! Great friendly service as always. Children ate for £1 and got choose their own story book to take home from a great selection. Food all came correct and all meals enjoyed!

Absolutely fantastic experience! AS ALWAYS! Cant fault this place at all! We tried the kebab and chips from the new menu, and it was nothing short of sublime—perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and so satisfying. We also had the steak and a fresh salad, both of which were equally impressive. The food arrived hot, fresh, and delicious, with every bite packed with quality and taste. Excellent service and a great atmosphere too. Highly recommend, and we’ll definitely be back!

The staff were welcoming and the service was good throughout. The chef in the kitchen even came out to query an order to ensure it was correct as there were lots of changes to the dish from the menu. The lady, who may have been the manager, was polite, smiling and friendly during the whole service. The food was cooked as asked; hot, served promptly and well presented. The toilets to the rear of the restaurant would benefit from a bit of a freshen up but this didn’t impact our experience- just more of an observation.

A group of eight of us have celebrated a birthday tonight and we all agreed it was a brill night, the food was lovely and the two girls who looked after us were true stars, their names are Millie and Holly, we can't recommend this place enough we will definitely be going again, thank you girls for looking after us xxxx

As regular customers over many years we are beyond disappointed. The last couple of times we've visited, the food has gone downhill and been 50/50 however, tonight was the worst food we have eaten at this pub ever. My chicken was cold, any colder and it would have been chilled. Half my chips were cooked, half not. The other meals ordered were no better. Now at home feeling sick and wishing we'd not given the benefit of the doubt and tried again especially considering this was a special evening for us. My partner was desperate to speak up but I don't like having a scene or any confrontation so avoided this. I did intend on speaking to the Manager upon our exit however, she had a queue of people so I avoided that situation too. Sad to say but we will be avoiding this pub for the foreseeable. For me, paying that amount of money really cannot be justified when the food genuinely is that disappointing. Also, the new 'fries' are a big disappointment. Our meals took nearly an hour which wouldn't have been so bad if the food was actually nice. Furthermore, it has become more regular that items are missing from the plate and you have to then ask for things that should already be there.

I won a competition for a Sunday lunch which was nice other than red cabbage 🤣 Dessert was lovely just need more custard!! Service was great very nice and friendly.

Lovely meal for 7 adults and 2 children. Gave us ample room to spread out with a newborn and a 3 year old. Food was great, service good, would definitely recommend.

Food and service the best I’ve every had

The pub has changed since my last visit. The food was extremely good. My mixed grill was very good, just the right size (portion of food). The starter (chicken wings) were very tasty and even the dessert was very tasty and of a good size. Overall the entire party was very pleased with the food served the quality of food and quantity of food.

Experience was spoiled and generally not happy. Out for a family Christmas meal and there was bingo being played - it felt like we had to be quiet as all tables near to us were playing and we couldn’t even talk amongst ourselves on this yearly Christmas tradition. Also my partner ordered the lasagna that clearly stated on the menu was served with garlic bread and salad. There was no garlic bread served and when she questioned the waitress about this she insisted that it was not served with this meal. Overall food was good but the attitude of the staff and the unknown bingo event ruined the atmosphere

Thank you so much to the team who ensured our Christmas work do was knock out. Food quality was super particularly considering price. Staff were warm, friendly and attentive. Entertainment was enjoyable and made the atmosphere even better.

The bar staff were quite miserable really, not a smile. A lot of the menu had ran out - no roast dinners, no Mac and cheese. The food wasn't hot when it arrived. It's just quite poor.

Waiting for meal ordered 50 minutes ago when the food did arrive it was very nice as usual, staff member apologised and said there was a printer problem in the kitchen. Will go again for food

A good pub ..pool table and darts TVs for football.Not the cheapest though the food seems reasonable.Downside still a chain so menu predictable.

Pub had children running in and out the doors and inside while people were eating... food was nice but not impressed with the sponge pudding ... it had a large piece of plastic in the bowl which i caught on my gums when eating ..

We ordered two sirloin steak both were over done and had a metallic smell to it which was off putting.We were asked if everything was OK, my wife said she wanted her meal replacing,mine was covered in peppercorn sauce by now so I carried on eating mine but my wife asked if she could have her steak replaced. The waitress came back stating there was no more steak so had to choose another option from the menu. Plus the first drink had to be taken back to the bar as the beer was off but was replaced by another beer instead.

After going here for 30 plus years, I won't be going again. Have always played darts in here, but the board is absolutely shocking and despite numerous requests for a new one, it has not been forthcoming, so we will take our business elsewhere. Glad that can afford to lose 6-8 people on a Monday night when there's very few other people in.

We came in on a Friday night after long journey. We could bring our Dog into Bar. A warm welcome & good Beers. Wow we ordered food, Huge Steak Pie & the Lasagna one of the nicest and deepest Ive eaten. All hot, tasty and good prices. We came again for drinks only, friendly welcome. Watched the Football an added bonus. Last night in Helmsley we ate here again, Gorgeous Gammon, Chips lovely & Hubby had to have Steak Pie again, 2nd time just as good. Really lovely place, excellent food, great atmosphere. We booked here for a party of 13 guests to celebrate a milestone birthday. I would have given a 5 star review, but unfortunately, the young man who took our food order entered it incorrectly into his till, I went through it several times with him to make sure it was all correct, as he was not very confident and had added an additional meal when he read it back to me. When the food arrived, there was a meal missing. The server, rather than apologising, was very rude. I would have liked him to have just gone and sorted the missing meal, rather than standing trying to prove a point and explaining that the said meal hadn’t been ordered. It was a shame really, because we couldn’t fault the place, and it’s really sad how the attitude of one member of staff can change the whole experience. While we were left to wait with one meal missing, my husband and I did go and speak with the manager to find out what was going on. She was lovely and she did apologise. We couldn’t enjoy our food while one of our party was sat with no food, understandably. The missing meal was brought out after about 20 minutes. I’d recommend and I would return, but I do hope that this particular member of staff is made aware of how he made us feel, it’s not a good attitude to have when you’re working in hospitality and it did put a dampener on the afternoon for me.

I booked a table for 13 of us and I couldn't have asked for better service. I didn't get the young girls name who was helping with our table but she is a credit to the restaurant. Food was amazing. We will definitely be going back

Steak was chewy and over cooked, not the best quality first one felt like it was frozen and maybe not rump. Service was quick and replacement was good. Staff were very good. Nice chicken burger. Fries good. Nice room and clean.
