Been before and food and service have always been good. BEWARE! There is a 10% service charge which they don't mention on their website. It maybe on the menu but I did not look.

I had read previous reviews and didnt know what to expect but I must say that we had a most excellent breakfast. The staff were also very attentive and friendly and we found them to be very efficient. We will definitely return and would recommend.

Agree with previous review regarding staff attentiveness and couldn’t care less attitude. We were also asked to pay by cash even though to card machine was clearly visible. Told to bring cash next time ( which there won’t be!)

This restaurant is in a nice spot and is clean but basic..We were unsure weather to seat ourselves so we waited at the bar whilst a member of staff served another customer ..there was another member of staff who just stood there and never thought to ask if were OK 🤔 we gave up waiting after nearly 10 minutes and seated ourselves also helping ourselves to menus as nobody came to our table . ..The chairs at the tables for 4 are too big for the table ...there is no room to move . We asked for fresh orange juice and the waitress said she had this and produced carton orange juice ...I think they should say as it definitely wasnt fresh . Our meal was nice...we had 2 fish and chips and 2 breakfasts .The food was hot and it arrived quickly . The staff just seemed really miserable and not attentive at all..when we went to pay we were asked for cash 😡 which we didn't have . We were then "told " not asked 😡 if you come again bring cash . Wouldn't go back as i didn't like the atmosphere

It's part of a garden centre with seating inside and outside. Good friendly service and nice menu of snacks and meals. We had bacon sandwiches and they were lovely. Interior is traditional and a little worn. Note that they prefer you to pay in cash, although will accept cards ( a little reluctantly!) We'll visit again.

Six of us booked this month. My first time with mother. All meals came at same time, all perfect. Very fair portions. Sundae (toffee) to die for. Serving ladies were full of character and warmth. Despite them being rushed off their feet, place was rammed so lucky we booked. Disabled friendly. Car parks just enough... Will be back. Loved it.

Very disappointing visit after being recommended by a usually reliable source. Food was cold and staff unhelpful to the point of rudeness. Will not be returning anytime soon!

Extremely rude man walking around with watering cans telling people what to do - one review says cyclist friendly… it is not. I have never felt less welcome in a cafe ever. Go down the road to Hatfield Heath or The Snug you won’t regret giving this place a miss.

Only one complaint Brett's have just launch a new loyalty card.on the card it says purchase any main meal and get one stamp.there was 4 of us so why did we not get 4 stamps.the waitress said you would only get one stamp.i think this is a bit misleading.bretts you need to refrase your wording on your loyalty card.

We love this place it is not posh but the food is excellent, we have never been disappointed with our order. The jacket potatoes are so fluffy and tasty and the fish finger baps amazingly nice everything is very reasonably priced and most of all they have the nicest most helpful and pleasant staff, I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed here

Breakfast was fine, (hiccup in taking the order though). However, none of us were impressed having 10% service fee automatically added to the bill. Certainly don’t recall seeing it mentioned on the menu. This is ok for a large group in a posh restaurant but not for 4 people having breakfast in basically a ‘cafe’. We feel that we were subsidising the wages bill! Not sure that we will return soon.

Food was very good apart from veggie breakfast which had no alternatives, just same as other breakfast without meat. Theses days most restaurants offer meet free products - very disappointing, will not be going here again

We are staying nearby, so went there this morning for breakfast. We were a party of 6, we went with our daughter, son in law and really good friends. The food was excellent, service was really good. Very friendly and jovial staff. Had a laugh with the lady, such a lovely atmosphere. Will go again when in the area.

A very friendly welcome. The menu was fine with a good mix of sandwiches jacket potatoes and full meals. There were sets of Trivial Pursuit questions on the tables, which was a bit of fun. The food arrived quickly and was piping hot. Both the all day breakfast and the sandwiches were good. A 10% service charge had been added to our bill, but it was removed when we asked.

Standard cafe food done well. Pleasant staff, friendly and efficient. Can't fault it really, how places should be ran.

Looked a lovely place , was escorted to our seats and given the menus,which looked very appetising and the waitress siad she would be back in a minute. 15 minutes later still waiting so we decided to leave, If I am going to pay above average prices then I expect a good service.

I've been to this restaurant during the week and everything was fine but Sunday lunch was a disaster. Raw vegetables, meat too tough to cut and overall a unhappy experience. A lesson learned.

Friendly place. Ate outside as lovely day. Had prawn wrap with chillies jam. Very good value and really nice food. Friend had lovely sandwich. Meals come with salad and crisps. They do hot meals too. Nice place with other local stores which are nice to browse.

Visited today April the 1st great service polite efficient staff however the plates smelled doggy can only think dishwasher not cleaning them properly plus the womens toilet sink was disgusting absolutely filthy which doesn’t fill you with confidence on the hygiene for the rest of the place such a shame as the food was very nice but won’t be going back again

Stopped here for brunch, the breakfast menu isn't huge but we didn't struggle to find something we're fancied. Food was lovely and great service, will definitely return.

We've eaten here twice and the foods been good on both visits. Service was quick and we had no real complaints other than they could of brought us the bill a little sooner.Worth checking out the adjoining shops and commas hall farm is nearby for fruit picking.

We stopped here during a cycle ride and were made to feel very welcome. Because it was a nice day we sat outside but it was a bit like being in the car park. Food arrived quickly and was excellent, one of the best bacon sandwiches I have ever had, although admittedly I was hungry! I would very happily visit again.

Tucked away in rural location between garden centre and speciality food store this is a great location. Very well-prepared food, varied menu and jolly servers. Although we hadn't booked a table we were served promptly and our meal, the catch of the day and chips, was excellent. Will go again!

Tried here for first time, the food was very good with a selective menu and specials board. However the place had no heating and my main course got cold quick. Shame because the food was good and would like to try other dishes on menu. Perhaps will have to wait till summer time.

We visited on the off chance and had a very pleasant meal. I had the all day breakfast and my wife had the duck. Very pleasant and polite staff. Nice clean and airy restaurant. Prices are reasonable.

Visited here for lunch. We had been before years ago, but it had obviously been extended and revamped since then, however, although at first sight it looked lovely the closer we looked it could definitely do with some decorating and new flooring.

We sat outside under the shade of the sun umbrella. The service we received was very good. The staff were friendly and efficient.

I went for a weekday lunch with my daughter and granddaughter and the weekday menu is nice and varied to suit most tastes. So it was easy for us to choose our meals. The meals were well cooked, especially the fabulous chips! We hadn’t booked, but the restaurant wasn’t busy. The environment is rustic, and well suited to a farm shop restaurant. It is generally clean, although the single ladies toilet needs some attention!

Brett's restaurant offers excellent food, great value for money and very friendly staff. Had lunch today and would certainly recommend the food. There's lots of choice from snacks to main meals, all great value for money. Caesar salad today was the best I've ever had and my husband opted for the all day breakfast. With drinks and coffee it was less than £30 - perfect for lunchtime. Would recommended and we'll be back soon.

Lunch time drinks. We founds Brett’s bar just by chance on a warm Sunday lunchtime. My family and I enjoyed a very pleasant drink in relaxing surroundings outside this bar bistro.

We’ve been to Brett’s farm for Sunday lunch quite a few times, the food is excellent, so we’ll cooked and delicious, the waitresses are so very nice and friendly, and nothing’s to much trouble for them.

We have just had a family meal at Bretts Farm. I am very shocked and angry. We asked 3 times whether a chocolate brownie desert had nuts. to discover that they did contain nuts the waiting staff had no real response apart from what do you really want us to say. The original waitress came over to the manager at the till when i was paying to be told that this did contain nuts. The first manager who was preparing the bill only said what do you want us to say. May be an apology and check to see if the person who is nut allergic is OK! She initially did not even take it off the bill. I understand the waitress was her first day. She was clearly upset. But her line managers should be clearly supervising her to ensure procedure and health and safety was being observed. I will never recommend this place to eat!!!

We came here for a friends birthday and had the full English Brekky it was served hot and plentiful & the Sausages were to die for. The staff were very helpful and cheerful and couldn’t do enough for us. We definitely will be returning next time we are in that area.

We happened upon this place by accident one Sunday and were welcomed in quite close to closing for a cuppa. We returned and had a very nice meal and then couldn't remember where the place was. We deliberately set out to find it today and were expecting to be disappointed as is so often the case when you return somewhere that has given you a good experience. Not a bit of it the food was tasty, hot and served with a smile! We even had dessert (unheard of as we usually get put off by the service). Definitely a hidden treasure!

We have been popping in to Brett`s for years and it has changed and evolved over time.

We ate Sunday lunch here and it was delicious. We had tomato and mascarpone soup and Tempura prawns to start it was very good. We then ate roast beef, Yorkshire Pud, roasties and very nicely cooked veg, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower cheese and scrumpy gravy. Sunday lunch is always a risk as it's never as good as homemade but this establishment is as good as homemade absolutely delish.

We visit this restaurant quite regularly and enjoy lovely food .. particularly enjoyed our Sunday lunch today extremely plentiful and full of taste ... staff very obliging and attentive.. would thoroughly recommend to all ... we always enjoy having our meal in the restaurant and sit outside in comfort with our coffee

It's very useful and interesting to visit Brett's especially for a local pop in or to get some gardening items and have a cuppa in the cafe next door or even do some minor shopping that there's also a shop.

Had a ride out here the other week and wandered around the shop and gardencentre here followed by a brilliant lunch here. Great food and marvellous service, highly recommend it

Mi esposa y yo paramos para desayunar en el camino a casa de Chelmsford. Muy buen desayuno hecho con ingredientes de calidad y bien presentada. Fue un par de libras más de una cuchara grasienta, pero bien vale la pena. Un ambiente agradable en el restaurante. Recomiendo encarecidamente este lugar.

Had lunch here with my daughter and three year old granddaughter, the staff are friendly and chatty. We had ham, egg and chips and asked for a spare plate as my granddaughter would not eat a portion owing to a small appetite, no problem the staff made no issue of this. The food is excellently cooked and tasted great. We had a desert each and my granddaughter did have a dessert to herself which she devoured. Overall I can't wait to return to this simple but excellent restaurant, it so refreshing to be treated well and for the food to be this good!

Consistency always, never had a bad experience, food always fresh and a great selection. My wife and I visit here regularly, I didn't want to put a review on this place only because I always want to be able to get a table each time I go - I am so selfish. It also seems that all the best staff work here, I would advise larger company's to visit and take notes. Honestly, the staff are friendly, attentive and they compliment the food which is at a high standard.... ALWAYS. Just to top all of this off, the food is priced so you can afford it.

What I like about Brett's is that you can partake of lunch any day up to 4pm which allows customers very flexible eating times. We went there recently for Saturday lunch at 3pm. There was an extensive menu with a good wine list. Food was excellent as was the wine. Prices are very reasonable.

We stopped off hear for a light snack great choice and good value .I had a sandwich which included some crisps and a bit of salad my mum had a jacket potato with good portion of filling and some salad .

Lovely location and pleasant atmosphere - ordered the lamb shank and scampi and the food was sublime - best lamb shank I've ever had! Service was good too, polite and efficient and not overbearing. And the desert was pretty damn tasty into the bargain :) Top quality all round.

Came here yesterday for Mother's Day. There was a set menu, 4 courses for £24.95. Food was excellent and was great for the price. There was even a box of chocolates for all the mums. They made mother's day feel very special.The only complaint that I have, is some of the young waitress's were dressed very inappropriate with skirts that were way too short. I myself am a young girl, but i feel that the way they were dressed is appalling and does not look professional at all.Our lunch was fantastic, just a shame about the staff's uniform.

We had Calamari to start - it was so light and tender. We then had the roast dinner. The meat was so tender and flavoursome, the vegetables cooked perfectly and awesome roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding! Best Sunday lunch we have ever had out!Service was faultless and friendly. Was taken by family for a bite to eat when we visited the area yesterday, have to say this was a great choice of venue.Busy too which shows it has a good reputation, good selection on the menu and reasonably priced. The staff were very efficient and friendly and good with the kids too.Meals were good and very filling but of course we managed a dessert.If I had to pick up on anything negative I would say it took a while to bring our meals out ( but it was busy)Thank you guys it was great

Brett's Bistro is the place to dine if you are wanting a Steak cooked to perfection! I ordered the 12oz Ribeye that was hand sliced by Brett himself.. I have to say it has to be one of the best steak dinner I have ever had.. and trust me I have had my share of fine dining.. However if you are in the mood for something other than steak , Brett's Bistro has a nice menu with many options to choose from . Brett's centrally located and easy to find . The bistro is clean and the customer service is amazing .I can not wait to return..

Came here with sister and both had the veggie breakfast which was delicious, generous portions and well priced, stayed a couple of hours with 2 pots of tea as well, wasn't busy and this was a Saturday and felt relaxed, will probably make this a regular thing!

Mmm had heard great things about this place but on arrival the restaurant was freezing cold, toilet flooded with water but more importantly the food was pants and overpriced! My partner had the lasagne which was bland and reheated in a microwave - obviously not freshly cooked. I stuck with a cream tea - scones and jam flavourless. Sorry, this place seems to be trading on past glories - will swerve this eatery in future.

Lovely cream teas served here & not too expensive. Nice atmosphere & friendly staff.. They only had five scones instead of six & adjusted our bill accordingly which was good.

Have eaten here twice recently. The food was tasty and the service was good. BUT for goodness sake, the choice of starters is so unimaginative! Two items featuring prawns!! Please, whoever decides on the menu have another think and try to come up with some more varied choices. We won't be coming back until the menu is changed, I'm afraid, which is a pity as otherwise it's is pretty good.

Myself and my friend had a very good breakfast at this Bistro which was nicely cooked and presented .Service was very good and coffee and tea was good.We will be back for another breakfast or meal at a later date.

Stopped off for Sunday lunch. My Seabass was very nice as was the mash and veggies, I cleared the plate, partners lamb shank was good but he not keen on mash or french beans Dessert, pavlova and sticky toffee pudding was ordinary, pudding seemed to be frozen rather than home made

We enjoyed our lunch very much at this cafe. We had the duck pate, club sandwich and coffee/walnut cake. Everything was delicious and fresh. The service friendly and very good. Nice setting including an outdoor patio. Would definitely return. You are doing a great job. Thanks from a couple of Canadian foodies.

We go to this restaurant regularly, for several reasons. The food is excellent, whether you go for lunch or a Sunday roast. The food is very fresh and well prepared, the portions are ample.My mum is very deaf, yet every waitress is so patient and calm. The staff really turns it in to a real treat.The only fact that i will admit is that for a while they tried to employ Polish staff, they will blunt and unkind. But these have left ages ago, and Bretts no longer deserves to be slated. Try them and taste for yourself. As for us, we are booked in again for this Saturday, I for one am looking very much forward to it, as is my family.

We stop of here for lunch several times a year. When the sun shines it is nice to sit outside & enjoy a sandwich & a glass of wine. However, our first visit this year gave us sandwiches which had very little filling - the bread is sliced thicker but the filling is much thinner, always a bad sign. Of the BLT, one triangle had only the tiniest piece of bacon [and not much else]. The rest were very sparsley filled. The same was true for the ham sandwich - the meat was a fairly thin slice. And they didn't have much flavour either - probably due to the lack of substance. With so many places to choose from for this kind of lunch we won't be bothering Bretts again

We visited Brett's for breakfast and was taken back at how bad it all was! Firstly the toilets inside have seen better days and I felt disgusted if they were like that what is the kitchen like? The breakfast seems very greasy and from frozen, the service was good but I can't understand why people would want to go there? Awful!

Went for mothers day 4 course lunch, which included coffee & a mint as one of the courses, never experienced that one before. So lets start with the first course, I had prawn cocktail which was served with heaps of orange pepper on top, lots of previously frozen prawns as were very chewy & this came complete with a orange watery liquid, no way was this made with mayo & if it was then it was certainly of a cheap brand. This was served with just 3 very small triangles of bread complete with some sort of marg spread, certainly not proper butter.For main course we choose the trio roast, we don't eat vegetables so as if we could have a few extra roast potatoes. The food was delivered to the table with just 3 - 4 potatoes each followed by a big bowl of vegetables. Hence our request had been totally ignored. The Yorkshire puddings were frozen & all 3 different meats were of the same size and shape?? Which leaves one wondering where this was from. Roast potatoes were dry & tasteless. At this point I would of been happy to leave but it was my son paying and would of been rude. Dessert came and again this was just bought in from somewhere. Nothing in this meal felt homemade. Well even the coffee was vile tasting, not even fresh cream or milk offered just long life stuff in pots. The whole place could do with a pit of a update, change the place mats as the are split and will breed germs.If the owners read this their response will be that we should of said something while in there so they could of put things right, well I'm sorry but you were given the chance to get things right the minute we walked through the door, your taking everyone hard earned cash ( well the ones that work for a living ) so everything should be to peoples satisfaction from the start. The food was very poor & all the complaining in the world wouldn't of put that right, nor being offered things like a free return meal puts things right. The point of TripAdvisor is to give true honest feedback from your visit.

I'm afraid I'm a bit late writing this review, but we celebrated my Mum's 70th birthday at Bretts in March 2014 and it was brilliant. Communication beforehand on what we could include in the brunch was excellent. On the day, the food was delicious, hot, quickly served and plentiful. The staff also could not have been more helpful. Would strongly recommend the restaurant for any kind of celebration.

Took my mum for lunch and she chose Brett's as it was recommended .drove half an hour to get there .when we went in was just told to sit were ever we wanted .waited for menus but no one came to us so I got up and went and got a couple of menus decided wot we wanted and waited to be served but no one came near our table atall the waitress just kept looking at us but did not come to our table while we were waiting a table of 2 and a table of 6 came in were seated with menus and offered drinks we were so disgusted that we got up and walked out I just can't believe the way we were totaly ignored will not return

The title says it all, the food was poor quality and not very nice at all. A friend and I visited this bistro last week and the chairs were stained and the decor was dated. Would not go back again... Infact will go out of my way to avoid it.

I just happened to be passing and as I was hungry I saw there was a farm shop where I could get a snack. As I pulled into the car park, I noticed the restaurant and decided to have a lunch. I was surprised at the pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and varied menu. I decided on a black and blue burger, with a cider to drink. The food was hot, fresh and very tasty and the drink was suitably chilled. The prices were very reasonable and good value.I certainly recommend Bretts.

Been here 4-5 times as a cycle club cafe stop. We order at the bar and sit at nice outside tables. I normally fancy flight egg sandwich which is not on the menu, but they make it for me. Other sandwiches, cakes, tea, coffee, etc, are all very nice. Next to the restaurants are deli which sells nice selection of food and apparently meat is very good. If you see cyclists, it's a good sign. We are usually very fussy about quality of food, coffee, and cost performance!

Went for lunch bank holiday Monday in this lovely little restaurant. Although the food is very acceptable, what makes this venue is the service. We were waited by a young waiter who told us his name was George and he done a brilliant job looking after us making sure we were ok! Our lunch was nice and reasonably priced and love the fact that there is a farm shop and garden centre on site too! Would definitely go back and hopefully George will be our waiter again as I was very impressed with his service and I find that this area is what lets most restaurants down!

My wife and I stumbled across this little gem whilst out for a Sunday drive. We received a very warm welcome from an attentive and smiling waiter who we found out to be a chap called George. Our meals were well presented, hot and very tasty which to be honest is everything we expect when eating out! What we have come not to expect sadly is great service but Brett's restored our faith in this. We eat out a lot and I have to say George is the best waiter that has served us for a very long time and Brett's should hang onto this chap at all costs as he makes the dining Brett's experience all the more enjoyable.

Stopped for late lunch on way home to Chelmsford. Very good selection of food available at 3pm. Lovely and clean and polite service. Will definetly visit again.

We were looking for a pub restaurant this afternoon to celebrate my sister-in-laws wedding anniversary around High Roding, Essex. Every single pub in the area stops serving at 2 pm or closes for the afternoon. We found Bretts Restaurant purely by accident and we are glad we did. They prepared an excellent meal for the four of us. They had a good selection of food, puddings and a very good wine list. It made the afternoon go very well. Thanks for the great service. We hope to come back soon when we are back in the depths of Essex!

Have visited twice now. Both times the food was plentiful and tasty (Sunday lunch and breakfast) but I must say both occasions were spoilt by the lack of cleanliness. The whole place needs a 'deep clean' and spruce up with immediate attention to the toilets.We went back for the second visit as we thought the first was OK and the Ladies loos not too bad but today we noticed the dirt on the dado rail and chips in the crockery. My husband had a sticky seat as though someone had spilt a drink and the men's toilets not great.Sad to say we will not be returning.

WE had a party for 25 people for a Christmas meal it was very good and all members were served together, now having to wait for different meals to be given out, staff very friendly
