Blue Mountain Yard in East Northamptonshire

Is this place actually ever open? The many times I’ve tried to come here and it’s closed, even during its stated opening hours. Drive all the way to Rushden lakes to eat and find it’s shut…

I believe this places had closed down I’m not sure I went today and looked shut HOWEVER from the one time I did go that Jerk chicken wrap was ABSOLUTELY DEVINEEE. Me and my friend loved being there and the music was reminds me of cleaning day on Sunday I loved it all

Lovely food and really friendly staff. Was a wait because it is popular but it was worth the wait. Tried fried plantain, jerk pork burrito and chips and was yummy. Will definitely come back

Came here with friends for birthday lunch and it was absolutely fantastic. The food was soo lovely and the service was exceptional. I will definitely be coming back.

In April 2023, my family and I were visiting Rushden Lake from Kent. We decided to try this restaurant for lunch, and oh boy, what a disappointment and waste of money that was. The menu boast all the authentic Jamaican trademark cuisines, but when the food arrived, it was horrible! The food had NO flavour! The Oxtail taste like it was boil, the ribs was dry like a piece of cardboard and the rice and peas was soft. Nothing about this place reflects or represent the Jamaican cuisine. Honestly, I personally wouldn't recommend anything on their menu.

Excellent food, service and atmosphere an all rounder hidden gem for a great night out . Fantastic value for money. Definitely going to come again!

My 8 year old daughter wanted to come here after previously having a coconut drink from a pop up stand. She went for the tropical drink,the gentleman was very helpful, as soon as she tried this drink she said "Wow! I give this a 10/10,best drink ever" she was very impressed and can't wait to come back. Details posted for Rushden is for a different branch. There was a poor choice of food 3 or 4 mains & starter The chicken burger & prawns would not be out of place in Iceland frozen food. The food we where given wouldn’t need a chef to cook. They seem nice people but restaurant is not fit for purpose

4 of us have just been to this top Caribbean restaurant. We all had the same...Ribs, Brisket, Jerk Chicken, Prawns., Goat curry, rice n salad all washed down the a couple of Red Stripe....absolutely amazing food!! Highly recommended and will see you again soon. 👍

Will be coming here again for sure! Food is amazing! Service was a tad streched due to large groups but John and his team (and his mum) were friendly, welcoming and wonderful hosts. The Big Plate was definately worth it and so tasty I wanted (but was too full to eat) seconds. Goat curry second to none. Cocktails strong enough they say hello and lots of interesting imported drinks too! Atmosphere was vibrant and chill and really comfortable to be in.

I can see what they are trying to achieve, but we were really disappointed with the food. We orderd Jerk chicken, rice & peas. If you do not order a large, you don't get a jerk sauce, which would means you end up with grilled chicken, which lacked seasoning. We were served chicken legs! never ever have I eaten 4x chicken legs in a caribbean restaurant. Nice decor , good music, but unfortunately food is a let down.

Lovely food, but the second time I've tried to eat here and again didn't feel like they actually wanted any custom, last time they barely had anything left and I went elsewhere. Poor lighting means it usually looks closed from the outside, even when it isn't, and then the staff mostly ignore you when you walk in. Very poor beer selection, only Heineken and Red Stripe. Worth it for the food though, sad that service means they will continue to lose out to the awful chain places that most people would probably pick instead.

I’m quite saddened to write this review, we have been here several times and has been good. However, the last few times we’ve come. The buffet deal has differed somewhat on each occasion. The owner seems to act oblivious when we discussed it with him. Different people on another table, reserved a large amount of food and a huge jug of gravy, whilst we were given scraps. Most of the meat arrived, rather burnt and salad was minimal

I booked Blue Mountain Yard on Saturday 7th May as a treat for mums birthday based on the fact that when visiting previously I had a wonderful experience, this was NOT the case this time around. We arrived about 10 minutes after the reserved time (couldn’t find parking), once seated we only took about 10minutes to decide on what we wanted to order. It was approximately 14:20. Our drinks came out very quickly. When it got to the 30 min mark of waiting we did begin to wonder why it was taking some time as the restaurant was nowhere near busy, in fact there were on about 6 tables being served. I did however notice there were only two servers and one girl on the bar, who started her break just after serving our drinks. I couldn’t tell how many kitchen staff there were. We got to about 50mins of waiting for our food when we noticed that one of the servers approached the table behind us to let them know that they were sorry that there was a delay as they were waiting on some food to still be cooked and they were offered a refund, bear in mind we arrived before this table and not one person thought it would be a good idea to let us know. After about and hour my mum at this point had, had enough and ask what the hold up was. It was only then we receive any type of acknowledgement or apology. We waited for another 10minutes and decided we were leaving, we asked for a refund, we were still charged for the drinks which I thought was ridiculous that they weren’t given as a good will gesture. I am disheartened to write this review as I am all about supporting black businesses but the service on this particular day was terrible. I didn’t notice the owner being in that day, he is usually so accommodating and provides a great service, which may have been the reason for such poor service.

The best frozen daiquiri Ive ever had recommended by John to have the mango version! Great quick service and friendly workers!

Came In today as I've been wanting to try this place for a while and was not disappointed! We had the £12 buffet for two which Included chicken, pork belly, prawns, rice & peas, coleslaw and gravy. It was delicious 😋 and so much food thankyou! It tasted lovely and authentic, as a fan of Jamaican food I went away very happy. We also had sticky toffee pud with ice cream which was also delish! Definitely coming back and telling everyone to go. The atmosphere was nice as the owners were wondering round, and they played all the right tunes to jam whilst eating 🥰

Highly disappointed especially after a 30min drive solely for this restaurant . Ordered a platter for £14. Rice and peas, Jerk chicken ,chicken wings , pork belly , salad and plantain + extra potion of chips . Firstly the rice had zero flavour, jerk chicken was dry and portions were ridiculously small . As for the Plantain … I had to drive back as they had forgotten to include it in my order … do Better

I will be honest, I know this place is amazing but I don't think it really gets the major love it deserves. It was our fourth time there and it never fails to deliver. There were 4 of us and we decided to have the Chefs table. Basically the Chef cooks a series of different portions of food. It's a taster menu of so many dishes. I wasn't 100 percent keen at first but I'm glad we had it because I cleaned off all my food, even the food I didn't want I ate because it tasted THAT good. The cocktails didn't disappoint. The food was glorious. The cocktails were tantalising but importantly the customer service we received was again second to none. A huge huge thanks to Em ( The Chef with many hats including being a electrician and labourer) food was banging!! Shout out to the staff there that night including the owners mum, but a huge huge thanks and Shout out to the man himself John.... This man is as kind and warm as his food :) Thank you for your hospitality with us all. The place deserves a Michelin star. We will be back again very soon ;)

Definitely the worst Jamaican/Caribbean food I’ve ever had. Solid 2/10. Portion sizes were tiny - literally a tiny bowl worth of curry goat? You go anywhere else and you’ll get a stacked portion. Same with the rice, never seen a place be so stingy with it. Way overpriced for the portion sizes Chicken was dry and had a weird taste to it You’d be better off going somewhere else around the Lakes or just order a takeaway from somewhere else local for proper portion sizes & food

When I pay for burger £8 I hope it will be more decent than McDonald, however chicken was overcooked, burger dry and onions like been chopped with an axe big chunks!!! I think this was my the first & the last time.

I used to be a top fan of this place and raved about it to my friends which lead to loads of people going. However, I went this Saturday and my opinion has totally changed. Firstly I ordered the boneless jerk chicken but as I have parosmia from covid I can only manage to eat the chicken if it’s covered in the gravy so I ordered an extra portion. When my food came there was only the extra pot of sauce so I asked if this was the extra or what came with the meal, the waitress told me it doesn't usual come with gravy anymore and you have to pay more for it. Had I not ordered it then it would of come with dry chicken and dry rice… who would serve that to a paying customer? I soon realised as I was eating that I wouldn’t be able to finish my food without ordering more so I asked the waitress for some more, she said it’s £1 to which I asked if I could pay for it at the end of my meal, she said that was fine. I sat and waited for ages with my food going cold before I asked a waiter what was happening with the gravy, the manager then came over and said we charge for gravy now… yes I know I said I’d pay for it already even though I already feel ripped off by the portion size compared to the price. I finished my now cold food and took my daughter next door as we were both still hungry and dissatisfied. I won’t be going again

A shame to give two stars, unfortunately they have a new menu that really lets this place down; after taking a seat and looking at the menu we left and ate elsewhere. Leaving this review in the hopes the restaurant reverts to its old menu from a few months ago. Very disappointing as this has always been my favourite place at Rushden Lakes and the only reason I put up with the nightmare parking.

Cannot rate this place highly enough. We are both gluten free and dairy free and I cannot eat yeast. The chef came out and had a chat with us and even let us try some goat before we ordered. The ribeye steak was cooked to perfection as was the goat curry. Thank you so much for a delicious meal and your helpfulness. Staff were very friendly

When we arrived it was almost empty yet we wasnt greeted by the server. We sat ourselves down on a sticky table. I ordered and paid for our foor& drinks but after 30 minutes our drinks (2 sodas and a water) still hadnt been brought out. We asked a server but she didnt seem to understand. She said she would speak with the chef but never came back. Eventually I got up and asked at the bar where I was handed two bottles from the fridge (No one told me I could grab my own drink when I paid, nor was I given a glass or straw for the bottle or any water). I didnt like that mains dont come with rice or salad, you have to order that separate. The food came and it was nice, However the portion was so small that we went next door to get pastries when we left After spending £46 at this restaurant.

We enjoyed a gorgeous meal of curried goat platter , mango prawns with rum cake & 2 spoons to finish. We were advised to have a walk before driving! We could smell the rum as it was set down! Warm personal service, great music. We will be back.

Truly superb restaurants in every way. They recently revamped their menu and I have to say it’s truly outstanding. We normally go for the Jamaican food, but this time I opted for the Tomahawk steak and it was out of this world. The only thing that surpassed the quality of the food is the service. They make you feel like part of the family, and I absolutely love that. There is nothing you can say bad about this place:

I was on my way to Nando’s when we stopped to look at the menu. The owner brought out a jerk chicken drumstick for me to compare. I was sold, the meal and cocktails didn’t disappoint. Absolutely amazing food and drinks, we would definitely return.

We stumbled across this little place when the queue at Nando’s was too long and we are so glad we did. Great food and lovely people serving. They do cocktails, drinks and Jamaican inspired food. Particularly appreciated being able to order individual starter items for £1 each.

We went to the blue mountain today for our first visit from the warm welcome we received as we walked in the experience and it was really chilled and laid back Great food great music and very friendly staff we will definitely be back to try something else on the menu.

We came from London to do some shopping in Rushden Lakes today and this was honestly the best Caribbean food I’ve had in ages (and I eat a lot of Caribbean!) The flavour is so authentic and the jerk chicken was cooked perfectly and you get SO much for your money! We ate so much and still had a full box of chicken left over to bring home with us. The owner of Blue Mountain Yard is actually the chef and it really shows in the love and care put in to the food. We spoke to him (and his mum who also works there) and they are both so lovely. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, great setting, music & clean toilets! (Which I personally find very important) I’ve already recommended the restaurant to my family who live locally, and I will 100% be returning next time I visit Rushden Lakes.

Been here a few times with friends and absolutely love it! Bottomless brunch is fab and staff are absolutely lovely. Food is lovely, and a great atmosphere. Can't wait to go again 🍹🍹

We had high expectations after reading some of the reviews but our experience was really poor. We ordered a takeaway (1/2 Jerk chicken, drumsticks, plantain, rice and peas, salt fish fritters etc) for the family which cost around £40. The food was not edible, everything was overcooked, dry and tough as though it had been cooked hours in advance and just left to sit in a warm oven. The salt fish fritters barely had any salt fish in them and the Jerk chicken didn't even come with a sauce, now if it was full of flavour, moist and succulent then fine but this was bone dry. The whole meal was thrown in the bin and £40 wasted. Shame as we were really looking forward to a nice Friday night meal. I suppose people who are not familiar with caribbean food would find it acceptable.

We have been to Blue Mountain Yard a lot since we discovered it. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the food is amazing. I can honestly say best Curried Goat, Best Sea Bass, and the Mango Chicken Wings are the best I have ever had. We love this place and will be taking all our friends and family. It's family run and just a great place to be.

This is our favourite restaurant at Rushden Lakes. Their food, drinks and service are amazing and really well priced. On the weekends they have Jamaican buffets with live music that are great too. Really can't recommend them enough.

Ate out with friends today and all the food was really enjoyable to people who havent even had jamaican food before, great variety in menu, friendly staff and incredibly well priced for the food especially in somewhere like Rushden Lakes :)

I went with my family for lunch today, as I’d been previously and really enjoyed the food. Unfortunately my experience today has put me off going back. Myself and my husband ordered a meal with several side dishes and we ordered a meal for my son. My daughter decided to get a burger from five guys (next door in the retail park) and eat that. A member of staff came to tell us that they don’t allow people to bring food from other places in (completely understandable) but instead of just leaving it at that, she proceeded to make it very personal by asking me whether I’d “bring food from somewhere else to somebody’s home when they invite you for dinner “ and “this is a family run business and this is how they make money” I apologised and explained that I thought it would be alright as the rest of the family ordered food and then she proceeded to spend a good few minutes making me feel extremely embarrassed and uncomfortable. A simple few words would have sufficed. She then said “we will continue to serve you this time” as though I should be thankful or something, when I’d just spent £40 on food! (supporting this family business) it was unbelievably rude and I wish I’d have walked out. Such a shame as the food was lovely.

Five stars for service and value for money. Their banquet at £12 a head was delicious and more than we could eat. Jerk chicken, barbecue chicken, goat curry (though they were out of goat so we had chicken curry), rice & peas, plantain, salad, coleslaw, bammies & chips! The only thing was that we found the barbecue chicken way too sweet for our taste & most probably too many carbs but I haven't marked them down as that's personal preference. Will definitely go again & again!

I used Blue Mountain Yard to cater for a black history month event at our office. They were so easy to deal with and nothing was too much trouble. The food was home made and absolutely delicious, it was well packaged and ready to serve....

Fantastic family run restaurant. Lunch menu was great value. Service was great. We had the Jerk chicken wrap, side of chips and coleslaw. Wrap was fresh and tasted great. The coleslaw was the best I've ever tried, and I was amazed to find out it was home made. So pleased we tried this place instead of all the restaurant chains surrounding it.

Food is tasty but the wait times and service leave a lot to be desired. Went in for lunch on a Saturday, no staff to be seen and maybe half the tables occupied. Stood around for a while waiting to be seated before seating ourselves at the only clean table and finding some menus. After ordering, the food took around 45 minutes to arrive which would have been fine if we’d ordered a full meal not just a wrap and burrito. Not sure if we’d go again.

By chance a lady popped a menu in my hand as we walked by and glad she did.Good food and drink at a reasonable price make this a little gem amongst the hustle and bustle of the shopping arcades.Will go again for sure !

We had the perfect lunch after a long morning of shopping around. I had the jerk chicken burger, my partner had the hot burrito and we shared some saltwater fritters, plantain side and chips. Everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned nicely, portions were just right and the staff were welcoming and polite. Overall this place is well worth the visit!

They have a limited menu. The lady member of staff was extremely unhelpful didn’t smile and wasn’t friendly or approachable at all! A shame as food is good.

Ordered drinks and weren’t too happy with the taste. Nicely told staff and asked if we could change as we only had a sip to taste. Manager turned around and said there was nothing he could do and this is the family recipe how they always make their drink. Was shocked by the terrible customer service, didn’t feel comfortable to stay so left with our full drinks on the table.

Came here twice in the past and both times I had the burger. Was one of the best burger I'd had in a while and if it stopped there this would be 5 stars however it doesn't. Came in today and... It's not there? I had to double check and no it definitely wasn't there. Was disappointed, ordered jerk pork instead. It was alright.

I never usually write reviews but this food was so artificial and atrocious I just have to warn other people from wasting there money here . We had ordered all simple drinks and half a meter away from the bar and took 30 minutes . It was not busy in the restaurant we had the Independence Day special and chickpea curry it was also horrible DO NOT RECCOMEND WHATSOEVER

Absolutely loved the food, staff, atmosphere and price! I had bbq chicken with rice and peas and it was lush, the best meal out I've had for a long time. My partner had curried goat with rice and peas and the portion was just the right amount. He said it was very good and can't wait to go back. My daughter had the bbq chicken wrap and it was huge! Very good value for money. Service was excellent and staff were very friendly.

What a cracking place. Amazing staff, good tasty food at a reasonable price. My husband had a medical episode when we were there ( no it wasn’t the food) such nice staff, and so helpful I really can’t praise them enough. The food was tasty and well cooked and served with a smile. We’ll definitely be back.

Very friendly staff, very accommodating even for a busy night. Came here with my friends for my birthday meal on Saturday, food was decent. The only thing I’d say would be that the curry goat could have been slow cooked longer as some bits were a bit chewy but it was really tasty and we didn’t have to wait long for our meals once they were ordered. The only bit of criticism was that it would have been nice if all the meals came out at the same time. Other than that everything was great, the music, the food and the service. Definitely 100% recommend. We wish we stayed a bit longer.

I walked in with my little family and as soon as I stepped in everyone stopped and started staring, a little odd I thought i waited a while as I there was no distinguishable staff on the floor then a man came up and told me they were fully booked despite there being numerous tables with no reservations signs on them. I turned around and there was sniggering just very strange off atmosphere.

A lovely Sunday lunch at BMY. Lots of tasty food and friendly service. Very helpful on gluten free. Highly recommend and can't wait to go again!

Good food and vibes. Nice selection of chicken dishes and we tried the chick pea curry. Spice wise it has just enough to warm you but not too much. Customer service was lovely. Would highly recommend if you're up for trying something different.

I went to this restaurant today with my white girlfriend and our three kids hoping to eat some authentic jamaican food,I was in for a shook after ordering 2 £10 platters for myself and other half and chicken strips for my two girls and my son barbecue wings and fried prawns in batter we all had our dishes with rice and peas...now for the review, The rice and peas was NOT authentic (white basmati rice with peas thrown in)..the chicken was cooked but was not jerk,,Basic unseasoned chicken, but white girlfriend was so upset,but being British was polite about the whole thing,,,my kids said dad we get better chicken in a corner shop ie dixy etc....I would feel embarrassed as the owner to call this jamaican food, the only thing jamaican was the music in the back ground..A COMPLETE RIP OFF....
