Amazing wee bakery on Arran. We arrived there just right after they had opened. The baguette was so fresh and delicious that I couldn’t resist to bite it when I got it. It’s Christmas time so we also got some almond mince pies. They are the best mince pies I have ever had. The almond was so fresh and crunchy and the stuffing wasn’t too sweet. Love it!!

We popped by not expecting much as we know they sell out very quickly but arriving just before 12 allowed us to choose from a big selection! There was so much and everything was deliciously warm. We purchased sourdough which was fantastic paired with some Scallops we ate that evening. We also grabbed a coffee and a couple of Croissants and Cinnamon Knots. Coffee wasn’t brilliant but their bread and pastries were absolutely stunning. Would certainly recommend and will be back!

I love bread !! Now that's a statement, but I really really do love good bread. Andrew, the baker/owner, uses only a sour dough base for his bread. I also had probably my best ever croissant from here a and a bread he calls Glass bread, a soft doughy yet strangely light Ciabbata style "loaf" he's hidden next to the hotel up a small incline, but parking very nearby. Thank god for people like this that understand what real. bread should look and taste like. Fantastic grab a loaf or 2 or 3 when next on the West Coast of the Isle of Arran. What a find

I read about this bakery before even getting to Arran and couldn’t wait to try their Sourdough. It’s a tiny little shop with the bread and other yummy baked goods displayed in a wooden cabinet out the front, you help yourself to what you want and then pay. The Sourdough was still warm and absolutely knocked the socks off any other Sourdough I’ve ever had. I think we sampled everything on offer during our time on Arran, everything was sublime. Little Frangipani style tarts that were a different fruit each day, Cinnamon Knots that you could just keep eating, Amazing croissants the list goes on. Even when they were shut there is an honesty system so you can still buy supplies.

My friend and I visited the bakehouse on Tuesday, was served by the owner a delighted chap. Purchased our goods and enjoyed the produce very much. On Friday we returned to black water by bus to purchased more goods to take home with us. Arrived and there were three people waiting to be serviced, this included our selfs. Asked the lady serving us if we could have our items warmed, we were meet with a very aggressive response NO, we explained that they heated them for us on Tuesday. More aggression arrived at us”I am to busy for that”. We quietly returned our item and left. Explained our situation to a local they described what the lady looked like and advised us that was the owner. We had a lovely week in Arran and the people were welcoming . Sadly we will not be returning to Blackwater or the bakehouse.
