What a fabulous evening this is. Really uplifting. Heartwarming riotous giggle of a night. Eth and friends really do deliver! Great song choices and the characters and poetry are also really entertaining. Staff at blackburne are wonderful. Totaly on the ball and keep everything moving with military precision but keep a chilled vibe. Roast dinner was excellent, especially the vegetables. Good choice of desert too and wine and other drinks. Can't wait for the next one. Must be the friendliest crowd I have been in. Just the tonic if you need a boost after a long winter.

The food is fresh and delicious! Eaten at the bistro 3 times recently and each time there was a great variety of meals, all great tasting, filling, fresh and good value. Plenty of vegan/vegetarian options too. Staff are great and the service is good. Favourite food spot in Liverpool. And then for our wedding.... - We were married in Blackburne House. Beautiful building, and the staff were nothing but an absolute pleasure from start to finish. The food for the meals was outstanding. I mean this whole heartedly. We and our guests have been to many wedding, in many luxurious and highly regarded locations and venues, and Blackburne House easily met, and in some cases surpassed, many of these! Every single one of our guests commented positively on the food and the service throughout the day. The staff were friendly, thoughtful, attentive and just all round wonderful reallly. The parents of young children at the day could not have been happier at how thoughtful and kind staff were with the young ones.

Blackburne House bistro is a hidden gem in the city . The food is amazing and extremely healthy , the only problem is deciding what to have . i alway feel at home the minute i walk in , its ideal to meet friends or work contacts . it is also one of the few places i would feel comfortable to go into and have a meal on my own . and as if that isnt enough , it is a social enterprise so the profits go back into education of women in our city .

Food is gorgeous, but the Cheesy Leek Bake is the best on Merseyside. Great little bistro. Staff are friendly and depending on your taste will recommend what you would like. Also like that they have gluten free meals, which is hard to come by. The Chocolate and Rum gluten free cake is another one to look out for.

One of the best places ever for vegetarian options. Some really different foods to choose from that I haven't had in other places. Decent prices for decent portions too. In many eateries, the vegetarian options are stereotypical and the saem everywhere but in The Blackburn House Bistro they serve up absolutely delicious veggie options, which makes me take ages to choose from! Lovely setting in a beautiful bulding and a really relaxed atmosphere. Staff are helpful and happy too. Go there!

It's such a pleasure to enjoy the delights of BH food - either in the Bistro, at an event or via their outside catering. As someone with food allergies, I delight in having brilliant tasting food that I know will be fine for me. I'm always confident in their dishes as everything is prepared by the chefs and their team on site and using great local produce I love the fact too that choosing the Bistro brings benefits to others - as all the profits go back in to. supporting the learning of women and students who choose BH as the place to study.

Blackburne Hose is an historic Liverpool building. It is in the Georgian quarter of Liverpool surrounded by many great and notable eateries. However this place is notably for one thing GOOD FOOD. In addition the staff and the ambiance make the experience so much better. Dont be put off by the lack of self promotion...its one of those places that you would not know it was the ---or you would think it was the institutions refectory. Get past that and get inside--enjoy the grub. I believe the person running this was associate with the old Everyman bistro which was so influential in up scaling Liverpool's dining milieu (pretentious---moi!!)...if so well done--if not please update me!!!!

Nice menu, reasonably priced food, but on the two occasions I visited, the attitude of the serving staff let the place down. Nobody seems to enjoy their work. There was nothing to indicate what the soup of the day was or how much it was, so I asked and almost had my head bitten off. There were no "pleases" or "thank yous" when asking for payment or giving change (and on one of the occasions the change was £4 short). On the second occasion, I asked about an item on the menu and the girl serving literally rolled her eyes at me before shouting my query through to the kitchen. She then asked which salad items I would like with it. I said I would like a bit of everything. "You can only choose two things for that price", she snapped back. Does it really matter what the 2 salad piles consists of, so long as the portion size is the same?! "Computer says no", apparently. I won't be returning, the atmosphere spoils my lunch.

I came to the cafe to hear a musical group and was pleased that I could eat and drink at the same time. I arrived around 7.15 and found that most of the food choices were sold out and there was a massive queue and very slow service. Each meal order, apart from salads (most of those had gone) had to be individually heated up. When I went back for more drinks, likewise a long wait in a long queue. I was offered cream with my pudding - and the wait person disappeared into the kitchen for about 10 minutes.I seemed to spend a good part of the concert standing in line! The food was fine, though quite ordinary, and most of the choices I would have preferred had gone.

I'd heard that Blackburne House Cafe had live music events, and that some of them were free, but I wasn't expecting such a fantastic night out, especially on a dreary Tuesday evening! We had a beautiful two course meal for £9.95 each, a bottle of wine, realistically priced, and were entertained for a couple of hours by TROIKA, an outstanding band made up of Guitar, Mandolin, Double Bass and Piano. There was witty narration throughout, explaining the period of music, which was from 1920's through to the 50's. The Staff were so friendly and accommodating which added to the atmosphere. A small group of us have met up here twice a year for almost 20 years but our last visit on Wednesday, 5 August, was disappointing. The food was awful - 'We've run out of lettuce...We've run out of egg mayonnaise sandwiches...' etc. It was only 12.30pm! When my tortilla came out of the microwave it was still cold and I had to ask for it to be re-heated. Quite apart from the food, the service was dire. The staff were obviously having a bad day, crockery and furniture being crashed around and when my re-heated tortilla - still only lukewarm - was brought to the table the waitress reached right across my friend's lunch to pass it to me! Since meeting as mature post-graduates at Liverpool University our group has always thought highly of this cafe and also visit separately with other friends and family, but we'll be having our Christmas Lunch elsewhere this year!

Tucked away under Blackburn House, on the corner of Hope Street and Faulkner Street, this cafe/restaurant is a good recent find.Service is friendly and efficient. The décor and furnishings are attractive but not fussy, with plenty of room. The food range and quality is very good, with an emphasis on healthy food.Their hot chocolate is one of the best!Open in the evenings, excellent for visits to local attractions such as the Philharmonic, but unfortunately appears not to be open at weekends.

Just off Hope street behind a big wall, easily missed but well worth a visit. Great food and open for dinner four nights - great to go on the way to the Phil. Lovely staff.

A group of us stumbled upon the cafe after trying various other restaurants in the vicinity, which were all booked up. We were so glad we found Blackburne House as it was relaxed and peaceful (compared to the rest of the city on a Friday night). The food was lovely, with good choices for vegetarians and omnivores alike and to cap it all, a wonderful band (Swingology) played gypsy jazz whilst we ate. It was absolutely brilliant and great value as well. We will certainly go again - especially when the band are on. What a find!

pick what you like from the menu, they'll partially reheat anything you like in the microwave before your eyes. Yuck.

Haven't been for a while. Counter layout has changed, but food is still just as good. Quiches are always excellent. Choice of salads have reduced but still good value.

Dropped in for a coffee as I had sat several exams in Blackburn House and liked the building. The selection of cakes was too tempting and the coffee washed down a huge slab of delicious moist Carrot cake very well.

As the family were descending we decided to opt out of cooking and have lunch out. Having heard of Blackburne house and visited briefly we decided on a visit. One of our main considerations was wheel chair access, unfortunately the lift was out of order, but the staff went out of their way to guide us through by a different route. As a party of ten , the service was quick although there were only a few diners. The beef chilli was a success, my baked potato a bit ordinary. the sandwiches well displayed and tasty, nachos served with everything which I personally find akin to chewing cardboard. the tae was served in delicate teapots, hot and plentiful. The dining area is spacious and well decorated, an enjoyable experience in all,,,and a very pleasant outdoor area, for warmer months..

This cafe isn't very visible from the street, but it's worth searching out: it's in the basement of the old building that used to be the grammar school that occupies the block between Falkner Street and Blackburne Place and faces onto Hope Street. All food is prepared on site and is displayed in a glass cabinet from which you can choose what you want. Soup and salad is available immediately; other dishes are heated on request and take a few minutes to arrive. This is a particularly nice place to eat in winter, as the cook obviously knows his/her stews and bakes very well. There's nothing more lovely than to come into this cosy place from the freezing winds outside and sit down to a flavoursome beef stew followed by a bread and butter pudding with cream. Everything I've ever eaten here (and I visit often) has been yummy. It's not fancy and it's not particularly adventurous, but if you're looking for QUALITY nosh made with fresh ingredients and you're into the 'home cooking' style of restaurant, then this is the place for you. The cafe and adjacent large hall are also often used as a venue for evening events such as live music, films and poetry recitals. Food and drink are usually available. I've attended numerous such events and found them to be most enjoyable.

Blackburne House Cafe was recommended to me so I thought I'd give it the once over. I was really surprised, it was all they said and more. So much to choose from took me ages to decide but eventually went for the Penne Carbonara (with lots of Parmesan cheese over) Mouthwatering! Would have had seconds except It was such a large portion, I just about finished it.Left no room for a dessert but I would have had the bread and butter pudding.Would recommend.Oh, and they make a great coffee too. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Liverpool.

Just back from my hols and back into work. Thought I would treat myself to a little lunch. This place is great. The cafe had a nice buzz to it, and it plays a mixture of music. I had the pork stroganoff with rice with a diet coke and a home baked sticky chocolate pudding with cream for dessert. The food was wonderful and the chocolate pudding was to die for. I was served by Lesley, the manager and she was very pleasant and efficient. They brought my dessert over for me. All the staff were lovely. It is tucked away in the basement of blackburne house but a very good find. I will be back again soon. I think we will come for the early bird special prior to going to the theatre which is 2 courses for £10. It was lunch time so I didn't have any alcoholic beverage but they had a vast array!!

The main courses are wonderfully warming on a cold day, but the cakes and puddings are to die for. I tend to go at lunchtime, but an early evening pre theatre meal is a good idea as it is handy for the Philharmonic. Since the sad demise of the Everyman the cafe bar has filled the vacuum

I paid for a plate of four different vegetarian salads £4.95 although recently the portions have got smaller each time I have eaten there, it is a convenient location. They used to serve good sized salad portions but now they have reduced them and they don't contain any protein ie no nuts beans, rice etc. I thought the price was expensive for a such a small plate of food and asked the waitress for more runner beans as she had only given me six, she begrudgingly added a few more. I was very pleasant to her and thanked her.The couscous and aubergine dish tasted very strange but thinking it could be a spice I had not had before I took a second mouthful. When it hit the back of my mouth, I had to run to the ladies to throw up, it was horrendous and slimy. I took it back and before I could speak the miserable new waitress turned her back on me and went into the kitchen and fetched the boss. The boss came out and went into the kitchen with my plate and having agreed it was bad, she scraped it off my plate and I was left with three salads. Not very happy, I sat down to a very meagre lunch, and was left hungry and with a horrible taste in my mouth. The boss came over and said she was surprised that I had manged two mouthfuls as she could only manage one and that was enough for her. I was sitting with friends and this compromised my ability to comment further and it was only when I left did I realise how much better the customer service could have been.
