Black Mamba in Dundee City

Wish I had read the reviews before I went. Had the Katsu chicken and it was raw. Had to complain and luckily they took it off our bill. Hope I am not ill later. Food is expensive for what it is. It is nothing special. The best thing was the apple gyoza pudding.

Visited with 4 friends on Saturday night. l've been twice since it's opened and really enjoyed it so was really disappointed. The Drinks were nice! The atmosphere and decor is nice. We ordered a few dishes each. Obviously you can expect tapas to come out separately but we were getting dishes 15-20 minutes apart. 2 of us had finished and one was just served her first dish. The Katsu chicken was rock hard, with congealed cheese and sauce over the top. The cheese fondue tasted like water. The chest nut mushroom bao Buns were so dry! we had to choose them quickly as there was 'none left' of what we originally wanted (6pm) All dishes were no more than warm. By the time we'd all finished one of us hadn't had any food and we asked staff who brought the receipt and 2 of her 3 dishes hadn't been added to the order at all so she had to go along to a takeaway to get some food. Not the best. I will add they took 20% off of our bill because we complained which was a nice gesture! Shame about the food and overall experience - it was the other 4 girls first time and none would go again.

Terrible service. Food all come out at different times. One member of the group never even got food as they didnt put the order through correctly. First and last visit. Will not be back.

A varied experience which left us full but wanting more. Arriving during a busy dinner service, we were greeted nicely and sat down in a lovely little booth. The decor was as stunning and the atmosphere was buzzing. We put our order in and within a few minutes our cocktails arrived, both very tasty and flavourful. Now the food, we knew it would come out when ready yet we left a little dissatisfied with the food, mainly because majority of the food was warm at best. Having had tapas elsewhere where it has came out pipping hot, this put a damper to the meal as everything tasted good and would have been a lot better if the food was hotter. Service was 5 stars, the experience was 4 stars and the food 3 stars.

Fuimos por bollos de tacos y Bao, mi compañero y yo estábamos muy decepcionados ya que estos se sirven casi helados, incluyendo pollo y carne de res. La salsa en el Katsa de berenjena estaba congelada y como flema. El servicio era terrible, habíamos dejado casi todos los tacos y bollos de bao y no preguntaron cómo estaba la comida... obviamente sabiendo que era de mala calidad. Después de pedir la factura y los servidores pasando varias veces sin siquiera preguntar si necesitábamos algo para toda la comida tuve que pedir la máquina de tarjetas. Evitar e ir a otro lugar. Lo único que pueden entregar es pequeños cócteles.

Food was okay. Service was disorganised but the music was too loud. Impossible to have a conversation. It felt like they were going for nightlife atmosphere but this was early evening. Won't go back in a hurry.

We arrived on time for our 8pm reservation, had to wait at the bar without service for 20 minutes before we were able to order a drink. at 8.30pm we were seated at an island table in the middle of the restaurant with other couples around us, bear in mind we had indicated it was a date so I felt this to be inappropriate as we felt awkward and could see the other couples felt awkward too and we had indicated in the booking that it was a date. we ordered vegan dishes as my girlfriend has a seafood allergy, but they served us a seafood version of what we ordered. I let the member of staff know what was going on and they just said they would get the right dish. in the meantime my partner is having a full blown allergic reaction at home (thankfully she lives 2 minutes away) and nobody cared to check if she was okay. No assistance offered, not even a glass of water or an offer to ring an ambulance. Nobody from management, or any position for that matter, came to discuss the situation, and for the rest of my time there the staff seemed to be avoiding all interaction with me. my girlfriend returned half an hour later after taking medicine and throwing up, only for us to be presented with a bill that had a £9 discount applied for the mistake, no apology or check in to see if she was feeling okay. not even an email or phone call the next day to check in. I think its unacceptable that your staff dont know how to properly deal with allergies, as people lives are at stake with this kind of thing. this was supposed to be a special night for us as we rarely get the time to actually go out for dinner, but it turned into a sleepless stressful night for both of us as my girlfriend was ill for the rest of the night and i stayed up to make sure she was going to be okay. very disappointing as Black Mamba has been on our must try list for quite a while, and we had heard good things from friends. now after this ordeal it is definitely on our avoid at all costs list along with all our friends who are regulars.

Attentive staff. Food quality poor. Meatballs so hard one ended up on my trousers - big tomato stain - , patatas bravas - greasy fried chips with blobs of mayo, bread served with more blobby mayo. Not pleasant and very expensive. Won't return

Fantastic tapas, delicious cocktails and great staff. Great way to spend an afternoon or evening. Staff happy to give recommendations too

Been a couple of times this year so far & loved both times for food & great service :-) Food is soooooo tasty & who doesn’t want a parrot Pina Colada?! See you soon

We visited for the first time last week, we heard a lot of good reviews from friends so thought we would give it a try. The restaurant looks great and it’s well decorated and staff are good. No issues at all. Sadly I found it very pricey for the food on offer and the food itself wasn’t very nice. The bhunawurst sausage was basically a sausage you would get from a hot counter in any shop doused in a rather unappealing mango chutney and tasteless aioli. The pork belly burnt ends were again very poor and like something from a supermarket that had been thrown in the air fryer. Both these dishes cost £17 in total and I would say that I would only be willing to pay half that in total for the quality and portion size. I defy anyone to share the bhunawurst the way it’s presented Our other dishes were similar in quality and taste however slightly cheaper. In all £45 was a lot to pay and we left hungry still.

The “ menu “ which was presented was an indication of what was to follow . Paper menu that was drink and food stained . The new menu was disappointing as was the dishes that was served . Was here 3 months ago and enjoyed . This visit was very poor , and won’t be back . Many other places of better value

My son and I ate here prior to departing for sea service. This restaurant has been totally redesigned and offers some outstanding Tapas meal choices. Tastes were divine as we were attended to by a couple of young ladies. Well worth a try if you like Tapas dining.

Surprised this place isn’t rated higher on Tripadvisor! Recommended by a friend and it didn’t disappoint. Very good food, great service.

Been here before & food was delicious although very pricey for portion sizes. Visited again this evening, menu has been changed and not for the better. Most plates are roughly £9-10 each. I ordered the prawn gambas at £9.50. I got 3 small prawns. Yes. 3. For £9.50. They did throw in the heads/shells too to bulk up the dish. They were also drenched in a thick curry type sauce which was unexpected & quite unpleasant. Next up the bratwurst sausage thing. Disgusting texture & taste. Queso fondue & chips. The green chile sauce was nice. Fondue went cold very quickly & horrible texture. Between us we tried 9 dishes. The chips were nice. So were the staff. Food is average & vastly over priced

Very disappointing! I have been twice once for lunch and once for brunch. I went into the restaurant to book lunch when it first opened and I was asked if the table at the window would be ok but when we arrived the tables and booths were all taken and we were seated at the central bar which is fine for drinks but too high to eat from. The tapas were small and overpriced , nothing special, the spicy prawn dish was just frozen overcooked prawns in a very watery sauce. I was suspicious when the food was described as quirky , half Asian half Spanish , never a good sign! The second time I was there was just for coffee on a Sunday morning and decided to give it another try and order something from the brunch menu , I can’t remember the name of the dish but it was inedible, it was a thick piece of soggy bread covered in a tomato sauce with a poached egg , ate the egg and left the rest, it was awful . The chef is trying too hard to be different and it’s not working. Would go back for drinks but won’t be eating there again.

Great cocktails and really tasty tapas. We were in a booth and the restaurant had a busy, friendly buzz. Service was friendly and we were well looked after. Will definitely be back.

Our experience was ok! The staff were nice and the decor is lovely. Nice change from the previous premises. The food was average. Nothing particularly stood out e.g. the Tuna Tostada was presented beautifully but it was essentially tuna mayo on a crisp bread. The Korean chicken was a good portion size compared to some of the other dishes. im not sure i would rush back

It was just ok! I was so looking forward to trying this restaurant but I was disappointed! The food was just ok and lukewarm! It’s quite expensive for what you get! I probably will not return! 😔

We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm for drinks. Found the whole seating situation strange as we sat down in an empty booth for 4 with no "reserved" signage but were promptly removed by staff. Were directed to a long shared bench in front of the bar where we sat 2 on each side. Our wine-a sauvignon blanc was fine but why no wine cooler? All other tables who had prosecco/white wine were like us, without any means of chilling the bottle. The cocktails we tried were average . All in all we found the experience rather strange and fairly expensive. There are far better options locally so we will not be returning any time soon.

Popped in during a cycle and warmly welcomed. Lovely atmosphere in clean tidy surroundings. Friendly staff and delicious Tapas..definitely worth a try!

We had pre-booked a table for our anniversary meal but were sat at a bench in the window which was streaming with condensation causing puddles on the table and soaking the menus, cutlery and napkins. We ordered six separate tapas dishes to start with and some drinks. The first dish we tried was the Vietnamese meatballs and I couldn't work our why I was unable to cut through the meatball until I realised both halves were joined together by one long hair running through it's centre. I quietly notified the staff to take it away, the waitress looked at the dish quizzically but took it away with no apology. We tried not to let it put us off since mistakes do happen. The rest of the food was fine but nothing particularly special. By the end of the meal the table was soaked from the condensated window and we asked for the bill. They didn't charge for the meatballs, needless to say, we were disappointed to not get an apology or for the manager to come and have a chat. Lessons learned - won't be trying again anytime soon.

Unreal experience, food was amazing. We went here following a few rave reviews from friends but we're still wowed by the food. Personal favourites were the beef shin croqueta and the Korean fried chicken. Service was also very good.

Mmm. Not quite sure what to make of Black Mamba. I kind of object to the hijacking of Tapas from small cheap dishes to very expensive over priced dishes. I had the pork belly snack which was three thinly slices of belly in an over hyped sauce. Technically it was pork belly but not as we know it in a normal quality restaurant or even a good pub and it was more expensive than them. I'm thinking about going back just to try something else that might be of value.

I recently dined at Black Mamba for my anniversary and unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. Despite booking in advance and noting it was a special occasion, we were seated at a cramped table for four alongside another person. This lack of privacy was not ideal for a romantic evening. When we inquired about alternate seating, we were told there was none available, only for another couple to be seated at a booth for two shortly thereafter. This inconsistency left a sour taste in our mouths. We then opted for just drinks and not dinner. My back was starting to ache as I was having to sit twisted to look at my partner during conversation, because you could not swivel the chair towards each other. There was only enough space to sit facing forward. It looks like this has been an issue for a couple of other diners. I was disappointed by the seating arrangement. I may consider giving it another try in the future. But in no rush. We ended up booking the Selkie for dinner instead. 10/10 overall.

Great place. Great vibe, great music. Food was lovely really tasty, but just not big enough tapas portions for the money unfortunately. Staff were brilliant and couldn't do enough for us. Thanks for a great meal.

Needs to decide if it’s a restaurant or a bar (??) seats at the bar so sat down to be completely ignored as staff were busy getting drinks for tables. It wasn’t that busy ( I’ve worked in a bar so I have the lived experience of acknowledging customers and an awareness of what it takes for good customer service - very lacking at the bar . We did not feel welcome so maybe take away the bar stools. We left and ended up in the DCA - same number of staff - and we were served instantly. Disappointing for This new venue as we wanted to see what this new place in Dundee was like and don’t recommend.

Tiny overpriced portions. Most of the food was bland. Don’t understand the hype whatsoever. Tuna mayo on tiny tortillas? Gimme a break. Did complain and was given £1.19 off the bill. So not a total loss 😂

Been to tapas bars before so i know how it works. 3 adults 2 tapas , 1 beer, 1 coke, 1 water £55. Never have i spent so much for so little food. 4 tiny meatballs £8, 4 prawns £9. Tiny portion of greens £5. For a new business i had high expectations but i wont be back. Only portion of any size was the fries but i could have went to mcdonalds for that.

Very good atmosphere, tasty food and drinks. Didn’t need to wait long for food, staff were helpful and friendly. Had an enjoyable evening. Will definitely return.

Centrally located with Great service, delicious food and cocktails. The Menu is varied and serves all tastes. Various seating with booths, tables and a long table seating different parties.

Food was tasty although there was a lot of Sriracha mayo on all dishes which added to the flavour…..service was quick and helpful. Nice atmosphere and it was good to see a restaurant in Dundee with a buzz going on at lunchtime. Would definitely revisit.

I was so excited to try this place out as I’d read a lot about the tapas and was expecting lots of delights and pops of flavours. I tried the tuna mini tacos, pork belly, padron poppers and the bbq potatoes. The pork belly wasn’t too bad but not impressed with the other dishes. Potatoes had way too much sauce, padron peppers just fried no flavour, tuna was well tuna mayo sandwich filler with nigella seeds and a slither of avocado. OH had black pudding and chorizo (deep fried lacked any flavour) and meatballs (again lacked a herb). Service wasn’t the best although it was really busy. Had to ask for the table to be cleared and cleaned. The light didn’t work on the table. We asked for plates so we could try different dishes and they brought 1 after a bit of a wait then brought another. By that time the hot dishes were now cold. I don’t recommend the window seat as you’ve your back to the restaurant and missed being part of the atmosphere and it was cold. The place looks fabulous, roomy and buzzing. Tapas was served when each dish is ready and not all together which is good. Price wise not too bad but defo add a potato dish if you’re hungry. A few tweaks in my opinion and sometimes less is more. Staff training on menu and wines. I asked for a Cava and the waitress asked if I wanted a small or large glass. The cocktail selection looked good but didn’t try any due to the slow service. I recommend the Cava it was lush and topped the Prosecco. It may seem like a bad review however I think of it as good feedback. Without it everyone thinks all is well.

Service was good food was absolutely stunning well worth a visit everything was lovely and fresh and presented beautifully

The food was amazing really recommend the croquettes and the steak. They need to give you side plates though as we were sharing all the tapas but had to try and eat without spilling things.

5 stars, we had wine, cocktails and food and we couldn’t fault any of it! Staff members were friendly and although they needed our table back for a certain time we didn’t feel rushed at all. Such nice interior and atmosphere for chilled calm dining. Things we would recommend; - beef shin croqueta - chorizo and black pudding spring rolls - korean fried chicken Really nice and reasonable cocktail prices, we had a lovely time and would definitely come back. Portion sizes were quite small in comparison to other tapas places I have been, but if you are fancying a light bite type meal this would suit perfectly.
