I had lunch here with my two adult daughters. Food lovely and portion sizes good. I had a starter size chicken strips with Napa salad with chips as a main course. Very tasty and enough for a lunch. One daughter had a caesar salad with chicken while the other daughter had another chicken dish. Very large main courses. Good range of dessertes - bannoffee tart and sticky toffee pudding were our choices. Friendly service

Having decided to go out for a last minute tea we rang the Ivanhoe who were able to accommodate us. Although the bistro was very busy we were welcomed by a very nice waitress and shown to our table and we ordered our meal which arrived beautifully presented and served by excellent staff, it was delicious and would have no hesitation in recommending this place for food and service.

Been regular diners here for a long time and it was always a good experience until last Friday 04/11/ 22 ordered the roast beef which was usually 2 to 3 slices and very nice but this time it was only about one slice that arrived shredded very very dissatisfied and when your spending between £70 to £100 per visit it just isn’t value for money so we will not be returning anytime soon Regards Audrey and Ray Turner

Today Sunday 20th feb my wife and daughter with her two children and a friend decided to have dinner at this bistro, after asking for a table for three adults, and two children, wife early 60’s, daughter early 30’s and two boys 4 and 7 , the greeter? This man looked my wife and daughter and children up and down and said we are fully booked, there were empty tables! It seems only certain people are allowed to eat in this bistro! Remember people asking locals to support local eateries…..avoid like Covid!

I live local to the Ivanhoe but hadn’t visited for a long time as previously had a disappointing meal a number of years back. Had heard good reports so decided to book a family lunch. Was welcomed by very friendly staff and the restaurant had a lovely open atmosphere. Nice traditional menu with a good selection of dishes. Also a good selection of Vegan options. The portion sizes are rather large. Not a major issue to be honest but most of our party struggled to finish their plates!! Deserts were really good too! All in all a lovely family meal and reasonably priced compared to some of the other restaurants in the locality at £105 for a party of 5. Will definitely be back!

Just had lunch in the Ivanhoe had an open prawn sandwich with avocado for £11.95. This was a complete rip off for the price. Small half avocado which was over ripe and an average open prawn sandwich. The plate was dominated with a tasteless salad. For the price I expected something that was fresh, flavoursome and more sophisticated. When my friend suggested the Ivanhoe I was underwhelmed. The next time I will say no way.

Now known simply as the Grill and Bar after the Ivanhoe's 2015 refurbishment, we recently called in on our first visit to the Ivanhoe in a couple of years. The bright restaurant was virtually empty when we arrived for a late breakfast, with only two or three other tables still being occupied, and we were shown to a table immediately on arriving. The breakfast menu offers a good range of options from cereals up to the full Irish breakfast (Ulster fry) and both the full Irish breakfast and French toast with bacon that we chose were well prepared and very filling - and washed down by a couple of cups of excellent coffee. The service was also very good and the prices very reasonable for the area - definitely somewhere to go back to!

Booked a table for seven when we got seated only half of the group were giving menus. After managing to stop a member of staff to order we had to wait 35mins on our food, after 25mins waiting I asked a male member of staff when will the food be served, he walked up to the chefs and said table etc want to know what's keeping there food, then I got told it would be next, when desert's got served we all sat with no spoons and had to walk up to the kitchen counter and lift them ourselves, the looks we got from staff were disgraceful not even a thankyou when walking out.

Attended the Mothers Day Carvery on Sunday with my family and had a fantastic lunch. The selection of food was amazing with 5 courses for £23.95. There were prawns, smoked salmon and a selection of salads for starters with a choice of 2 meats served with potatoes and a selection of vegetables. A mouth watering selection of desserts was available. Tea/Coffee and cheese were available to finish this delightful meal. There was live music playing in the background. The function room was beautifully decorated with white chair covers and pink bows and fresh flowers on all tables I felt this was a special touch and made the whole experience very enjoyable. There was no rush to finish the meal and the staff were polite, efficient and made you feel very welcome on this special mothers day. I would highly recommend a visit to this Sunday carvery and I will be returning soon.

I have visited this place a few times over the years and I always had an enjoyable meal here but unfortunately I was disappointed following my visit on Sunday. Mum and I called in for a spot of lunch, I ordered the vegetarian carbonara and mum had the Turkey & Ham dinner. When the bowl of carbonara was put down in front of me it looked great, and was plentiful. However when I started eating it, the pasta was overcooked while the vegetables were undercooked and the sauce was was so runny it was more like a soup and the overall taste was bland. The two slices of toasted garlic bread were the best part of my meal. On the plus side my mum enjoyed her meal. There was a bit of confusion with our desserts, my ordered the winter berry crumble that was served with a very small pot of custard, which was cold, not sure if this was supposed to be served like this? I had to ask the waitress for my dessert (Eton Mess ice cream) that I still hadn't received, when I got it it was OK but was more like a raspberry ripple ice cream as there wasn't much meringue in it. Overall I felt the food let the place down as the staff were friendly and helpful and the bistro is a nice place but the food was bland tasting. Portion sides are large and I feel that portion sizes could be smaller with more of a focus on quality and taste, just my personal opinion. Card machine wasn't working so had to taken into the hotel reception area to pay for the meal. Would not be in a hurry back.

No te decepcionará.

It was rotten one sausage one piece of bacon, one egg mushrooms and lots of rock hard fried bread and potato bread that must have been put into a deep fat firer. ate here on way to concert and ordered 8oz sirloin steak. When waiter enquired if I wished to change the champ to another side, I asked for a side salad with no coleslaw or Mayo dressing. When the rather small almost charred steak arrived, the waiter brough a small dish with lettuce and a pile of coleslaw on top! I was shocked and stated that I had requested no coleslaw on my salad, this was replaced with a small bowl of salad; lettuce cucumber sliced tomato and dressing. No grated carrot, peppers or other standard salad ingredients. For 14.95 I think this was not good value for money. My daughters chicken was also uninteststing and bland. Such a shame the food lets this restaurant down as the staff were attentive and a lovely refurbished environment.

We went here for father's day, as we'd previously eaten here before. The place looks great after their refit, and have a good food selection. Parking is plentiful. The restaurant was packed, and we were seated far away in a back conference room, even though we had booked. Not great. We placed our orders, and the waiters were friendly and helpful. That's when it all fell apart. It would seem the kitchen just couldn't handle it and was overwhelmed. Our daughter received her kids meal after 30 minutes. We waited for an hour and 15 minutes for our food. When it arrived, the orders we're wrong: burger missing cheese, roast of the day instead of a stuffed chicken breast, my burger had no bap??!?. By then we were ready to chew our own arms off. We received no explanations, even though we asked what was going on. No apologies. All in all, a ridiculous experience. Would I be back? no.

Now The Bistro, we walked in on a Friday evening without a booking, and we were accommodated without a problem. The decor has been totally transformed since we were last there, no more dated trellis-type dividers in between tables and so on. Very bright and airy now with comfortable soft chairs to sit in at the tables. Lots of variety on the menu - it's more like an upmarket pub grub than fine dining, so it's living up to its Bistro name well. I opted for a reasonably priced Seafood tagliatelle. For £9.95 you got a generous bowl of pasta - I think it was the dried sort rather than the fresh - laced with just the right amount of fresh creamy sauce. Nothing worse than trying to eat, politely, pasta that's sloshing about in a sea of sauce. The seafood comprised of a nice variety of fish. Salmon, smoked haddock and another white fish. Was slightly disappointed there were no prawns as they're a favourite with me. But that said, there were absolutely no bones lurking in fish, which can be quite rare in restaurants, and it is a horrible experiences having to hoak through your food in order to ensure you have a safe meal. The whole dish was cooked to perfection, including the side of vegetables I ordered. Staff were attentive and polite with the service being prompt. One novelty, which would appeal to as many adults as children, would be the ice cream counter. Beautifully presented ice creams, such as Jaffa Cake and Eton Mess, sit invitingly beneath the glass. Managed not to cave in this time, but will return sooner rather than later.

Visited today (9/6/15) around lunch time, as my grandfather had been before and said the food was excellent and the renovations were fabulous, myself and my mother were apprehensive as we are vegan and she can be difficult and easily stressed/put off if she doesn't trust what they are doing. So I phoned about an hour in advance after looking over the menu. I spoke to Linda who was very helpful who didn't know much about the ingredients of the food to correspond with our diets, so she took my number and said she would speak to the chef for some info/options. Long story short, it was a beautiful place and we had fruit salads for starters (I was going to have the vegetable soup but unfortunately there was butter in it) which were very tasty and a generous wee bowl for a starter. For our mains we had decided on vegetable stir fry with rice, which was also delicious. Portion sizes were excellent and for 3x2course lunches plus two soft drinks £14/head for the food is reasonable enough in such a nice location with helpful proactive staff. Thanks for your help and for catering for us so easily taking it in your stride. All staff very pleasant and atmosphere is very relaxed.

Went for a birthday lunch but was quickly disappointed. Choice on the menu was the most basic I have ever seen in a restaurant. The staff serving the meals where good but the older staff constantly tried to undermine the younger staff members in front of us. To be honest it was the older staff who didn't have a clue what was going on. The food not only was basic but was bland. No taste whatsoever. I'm not fussy but just like my food to taste of something resembling the dish I ordered. Best or should I say worst yet to come - I watched the desserts being made up in an area that most of the restaurant could see, every time the guy cut a piece of cake or scooped a piece of ice cream he used his fingers to help place it on the plate/bowel, then he proceeded to lick his fingers each time. Basic food hygiene!!!!! This in front of the watchful eyes of the older supervisors who said nothing but worst of all in front of the paying customer. Oh and its quite expensive. Needless to say I won't be back

The evening meal was average the lunch poor. The restaurant itself is pleasant with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Service was good but the food just isn't up to the standards it needs to be. Menu is bland and uninteresting with the food lacking flavour. For example the lunchtime chicken curry was boiled rice with lumps of chicken in a curry sauce made from a packet mix. A little bit of imagination could have added some fruit or vegetables into it to make it more interesting. Burger was un seasoned beef on a plain bun, no dressings or salad. Fish and chips leaking cooking oil. Not good.Sorry guys but I know you can do much better than this.

A small group from our workplace went for an early evening meal here yesterday, the idea being that with everyone driving some distance it was preferable to go direct from the office rather than go out later in the evening. The Ivanhoe was renovated about nine months ago to a very high standard. It is spacious, light and very comfortable. The dining chairs are of good quality upholstery with plenty of seat room, although those people of a shorter stature felt they were a little low. The' early bird' menu is not exhaustive but there is a variety of meat, poultry and fish. There was also a 'specials' board which, traditionally at this time of year, included turkey. For starters most went for either the breaded mushrooms with garlic dip, or freshly made soup, on this occasion leek and potato. The popular chouce of main course was the chicken stack which consisted of two chicken breasts with bacon and dressed with mozzerlla cheese. There was also a good selection of side orders. Desserts included pavlova, which came deconstructed, Bailey's cheesecake and a variety of flavoured ice cream. The staff were very friendly and efficient and there was no pressure placed upon us to buy drinks, alcoholic or otherwise. A nice touch was that caraffes of iced water were brought to the table without asking and these could be refreshed as often as required. Our total bill which was for 5 starters, 7 mains and 7 desserts worked out under £20 per head.Having visited the Ivanhoe a few times prior to the refurbishment, I consider they have done a magnificent job and I would recommend it to anyone who is in the area or passing through.

Have been to the revamped restaurant three times since its recent renovation. Prior to this hadn't been in to for over 2 years as it was frankly awful. We were willing to give it a chance, but having given it three chances, will not be returning. The revamp itself is superb -decor and finish is fantastic - but it can't cover up the problems. Service to say the least is patchy, you can wait 15 minutes to give a drinks order, and have had to wait even longer to receive a drinks order - of one pint. There does not appear to be any system as to what waiter/waitress deals with any particular table. However staff themselves are friendly. But the biggest problem with the restaurant is the food. The menu has hardly changed since the revamp, and seems to be stuck in the 80s/90s. No imagination put into the food, same old basics, producing bland food. No one from management appears to have looked at other restaurants/bistros to see modern menus with modern food. What makes it worse is the you pay city centre restaurant prices for a below average Carryduff bistro. As I live in Carryduff I am extremely disappointed, as the Ivanhoe is within walking distance and it would be great to be able to use it. However I would rather pay the money to hop on a bus or jump in a taxi to go to one of the bars/restaurants/bistros on the upper Ormeau Road, that are providing food for the 21st century. In fact a suggestion to the management of the Ivanhoe, that they should do the same and compare their establishment. Will not be back.

Was looking forward to going for Sunday tea at the newly refurbished restaurant but I can honestly say the experience was so disappointing. Service was poor from beginning to end. We were seated and no drinks order taken, we had to go to the bar ourselves. Two of the fours of us ordered starters but soup very salty. Three of us ordered the same main meal of chicken stack, when they came one was only half the portion of the other two and had more bacon and cheese than chicken, I mentioned this to waiter who then sent over a more senior female waitress, who frankly was rude and disinterested, but offered to arrange for more chicken to come out, well as I write this comment four hours later I am still waiting. The chicken which I did get was tough and tasteless. The wrong side orders came out and we had to continually ask for drinks which surprise surprise they got wrong. We asked for sweet menus of which we received two different menus, so had to wait to have them sort out which was the right menu and after we ordered dessert, well guess what they came back a few mins later to say what we ordered was no longer available. Apart from the good company of friends I can truly say haven't had a more disappointing experience in years. I will definitely not be back or will I recommend to anyone.

We made a reservation for the Ivanhoe hotel just for an overnight stay. On our arrival we found the reception area in total chaos, apparently it is under going a complete refurbishment., but our room took us by complete surprise. It was a lovely spacious airy room, with a spotless bathroom, and a brilliant walk in shower, overall very pleasant, as were the staff. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant which we thought to be good value for the money. Next morning we left after a cooked breakfast totally rested . I would recommend this hotel. because it is affordable and very comfortable.

Ate here for five weeks during a training course - the staff were fantastic, the food was always tasty and plentiful. More than made up for missing 'home cooking'.

Called in for a meal on route to Newcastle.Haven't been here at all so stood in reception area awaiting guidance, after looking for someone gave up and spoke to a girl, I assume was local as she was able to name staff. Went in the direction she told us to yet again wait for assistance. Decided to leave and on exit was told of a nearby restaurant, tried it and was very glad we did.

stopped off on way to airport for early tea, bit pricey for type of establishment but friendly staff. steak was supposed to be medium but was more well done, diane sauce was more like a tomato and mushroom sauce but was ok. husband asked for pork with colcannon but wasnt told until asked that no colcannon available so would be mash, thought this was a bit off.other diners had bbq chicken and said bbq sauce was nice, potatoes were served seperately and portions were good size. veg wasnt great. desserts were a good size and staff were helpful in that they changed brandy sauce for custard, even if it was packet stuff!!

We stopped by for some late lunch with my mum as she just arrived from Glasgow! ... food was lovely but got to admit the food was quite pricey! For my mum to complain....it must be expensive but it was all an experience for her! .... would really have to stick with the specials menu to keep your price down but doesn't have enough options on for this to happen!

We have been to this restaurant a few times now and have never been let down by our meal or the staff and the prices are not over the top, have no problem in recommending it to anyone.

Came upon this restaurant by chance when out for a drive with friends on the Sunday after my son's wedding. We went in for Sunday Lunch and it was fantastic. The food was to die for and the helpings were huge. I would recommend it to anyone either local or on holiday. It is great value for money.
