My ex-partner and I ventured into Bintang, Kentish Town this evening, without a reservation, a spontaneous decision that quickly descended into a regrettable ordeal. Upon inquiring about the possibility of dining downstairs, we were begrudgingly accommodated with the strict condition of vacating within a mere 90 minutes due to subsequent bookings. This constraint immediately instilled a sense of undue haste and discomfort, setting a decidedly unwelcome tone for our visit. Our interaction with the service staff did little to alleviate the growing tension. Struggling to decipher the waitress's explanations, I found myself nodding in agreement without full comprehension, an interaction that felt both frustrating and dismissive. In a futile attempt to expedite our dining experience, we ordered both starters and mains together, hoping for a seamless meal. The starters, which arrived with alarming swiftness, were a prelude to disappointment, lacking in flavour and refinement. This was promptly followed by my main course of noodles, a dish that could only be described as passably edible but disappointingly lacklustre, resembling more a mass of slugs than a culinary delight. The nadir of our dining experience, however, was my ex-partner's chicken dish, served with a skin so egregiously burnt it could only be likened to charred charcoal, a stark testament to the kitchen's hasty and careless preparation in their bid to usher us out. Our complaints were met with a paltry offering of a 20% discount, a gesture that did little to ameliorate the situation or salvage the evening. The entire experience was marred by a palpable rush, a clear indication that our presence was merely tolerated rather than welcomed, all for the privilege of paying West End prices for what was unequivocally not a West End experience. In retrospect, our impromptu visit to Bintang was a stark lesson in disappointment, a harrowing encounter that left us not only underwhelmed but distinctly aggrieved.

Recently visited with my work colleagues in celebration of the team winning our Cocktail Competition. We have such a great night. The ambience in the place was very intimate. The service from all staff members, especially Angel was exceptional. We had a plate of small nibbles along with various small plates and different mains, so that we could get a taste of it all. We also ordered signature cocktail and virgin cocktails, which were also amazing. We finished off with dessert which was a great end to such an amazing meal. I could not recommend this place enough and will ve coming back in the near future.

Amazing food! Levelled up Filipino dishes. We went here on a Saturday afternoon and were seated right away. Their staff was super nice and just had an excellent customer service skills. We were served by the Short haired girl and immediately after she gave us the menu she explained how is it best to order and like how many dishes do they recommend. The food was served quickly. We ordered Chicharon (Super crunchy) love the vinegar as well Ox tail Kare Kare (This is the dish we loved the most, the meat was so tender and it is best paired with their garlic rice. The sauce is just super good) Garlic rice (Amazing!) Okoy fritters Lumpia After we finished our meal, the waiter asked ask if we want to have our dessert. Which we did. She offered desserts in the resto but you can order with Mamasons which is just beside them. You dont have to go there but they will just deliver it to you. We ordered the cream cheese calamansi cake(Not sure what its called but its their new dessert which is yummy) And buko pie with ube ice cream. Will definitely go back to this restaurant.

Decided to order from this place for Valentine's Day, and holy the oxtail curry was actually phenomenal. The meat is so tender, the peanuts just add that complimentary texture and the gravy was just magnificent, while my date really enjoyed the Bintang Curry, more and more with every bite. The pricing was decent, however if you plan to order I would suggest making your own rice to save on cost, and if anything put that saving into a side like the wings. Seriously though, you have to try the oxtail curry It leaves such an impression on you.

Went here a while ago. The staff are friendly and if you come when they open at 5 they usually don’t have a queue. If you have a larger group, it may be best to call up to reserve a table. Food here is amazing, I really couldn’t fault anything. If there is one thing to get I would say their glazed ribs as it just fell off the bones. Even the potatoes had flavour, I would definitely need to come back to try the rest of the menu. It is also halal, but ask beforehand to double check. Personally, I feel like the price is reflected in the quality of the food.

Last time we got the liver popcorn, which were cooked just right still creamy on the inside. 3.5* Went for a girl's night. Loved the downstairs seating area which can accommodate large groups. Appreciated the variety of really delicious cocktails for those that choose not to imbibe. We tried the chicken wings and the okoy vegetable fritters as starters along with the spring rolls. The spring rolls had a gaminess flavor to them that I did not enjoy. Chicken wings were crispy and hot and the fritters were my favorite! For mains we ordered the sea bream, morning glory, Inasal chicken and oxtail curry and roti canai. The chicken was probably my favorite main along with the fish. It went really well with the garlic fried rice which I highly recommend! The roti was the most disappointing. It tasted like the frozen Shana paratha that you can get at the grocery stores. I was hoping for a fresh made flakey roti. The curry that it came seemed to be similar to the curry on the fish. Morning Glory was a delightful vegetable side dish! Crisp and fresh. We didn't get dessert on this occasion because we wanted to go next door to Mamasan.

Attended as part of the London Restaurant Festival, which we think is a great idea of experiencing different places to eat. The food were delightful small plates of tasty and succulent food. The service however was not so good hence a mediocre rating. It may have been due to new staff so I hope the rating does not put anyone off, as I still think it’s still worth trying out. We ate in the small rear garden which was quite rustic with wooden scaffolding benches but it had a good atmosphere. Hopefully they have made sure there are no more nails protruding from the wooden seats. Overall I would go again just for the food.

The place is cool, and had a great refurb, but unfortunately our experience wasn't great. Sat down and heard the two best things on the menu had run out (at 6pm), so had to choose the options I didn't really want. When the food arrived, it was oily and dense and all had the same peanut-ty flavour. The meat was mostly bone. Disappointing. Then the bill came and I nearly spat out my Tiger. Way, way overpriced. I know we're dealing with inflation, but £50 each for a beer and two small dishes?

Visited this placed 2 years ago and had an amazing time so wanted to go again, and sadly, the place has unexpectedly gone downhill since then. We arrived to the restaurant at 5:15pm (Google and their website states they open at 5pm) when we tried to go in, door was open however, one of the staff members said they're not open yet as they have a staff meeting and wold be open in an hour and half....why have your doors open if you're not open to customers and why doesn't the website say that? I saw another comment about they seem to open whenever they feel like, and that still seems to be the case. Already the experience there was disappointing. We decided to wait around as we made the journey there, when we finally got seated, they stated we could only sit on one of the two tables upstairs and not go downstairs, which was a bit bizarre tbh and no reason was offered. Annoyingly, it was absolutely freezing where we were seated and the door was constantly opened by staff. There was a small heater but only placed selfishly where the workers were in the back. The food was still good however, the whole experience was strange, dissatisfying and staff really did the minimum and did not check in on us. Most likely wont be going again as our experience was not good as the first time which is a real shame.

This place is EXTORTIONATE. It’s no longer BYOB btw for anyone who has been before. We had shared starters between 7 (4 plates) plus mains and 2 portions of greens - plus drinks it was £64 each??? Nearly fell off my chair Food was really standard too - I had the pad Thai which was chicken and prawns (only got 3 prawns) and the chicken was so smoky I couldn’t eat it. Service wasn’t really anything to write home about either… waiters dropped two bottles of beer on my friend at the start with no real apology after. Minimum for a bottle of wine is £36 and it was so average (plus not even chilled)… Wouldn’t ever go back

My wife and I have been meaning to visit Bintang for a while now as we regularly go to Guanabana which has the same owners a few doors away. What a disappointment this place was. I spent £50 and the food was not nice or authentic. The Rengdan was watery and lacked flavour, my wife had chicken thigh with rice and potatoes, again lacked flavour. We paid £4.50 for guava and lime. It’s basically Rubicon guava drink with a small slice of lime. I asked for the service charge to be taken off as I can never understand why we pay extra money to be served in a restaurant. I go to a restaurant to be served so why does your menu not reflect the service price? On their online menu which we scanned it said £4.50 for egg fried rice, when I got home I realised they charged me £5.50. This is annoying, it’s not about the £1, why can you not get your pricing right? We paid £8 for 4 small wings that was mediocre at best. The gentlemen who served us was nice and polite so no issues there but I will never ever step foot into this place again. My wife doesn’t often say much but she definitely wasn’t impressed with this place either.

Visited as a group of friends recently - while the waiters were very nice they accidentally gave 1 of the group, who is a vegetarian, a chicken curry (which she only realised when she bit into it), rather than the prawn curry she’d ordered. They then tried to charge us for the replacement prawn curry to fix the mistake. They didn’t even give her her prawn curry on the house, when they’d given a vegetarian chicken! They also charged us for extra bottles for corkage. All in all, felt a bit ripped off. They definitely shouldn’t have tried to charge us extra for their mistake and should have given the veggie something as a token of goodwill and as an apology. Just be mindful to check your bill if you’re in a large group.

Eaten in the related restaurants (Mamasons et al) a couple of times. Been a while since I have been here. Starters are made with the care normally reserved for mains. Wasabi prawns are incredible and an absolute stand out. Salt and pepper calamari, whilst a more subtle flavour were very well cooked. Mains were the Pancit Canton noodles with Prawns. Amazingly good, prawn noodles are such a staple its hard to be surprised but the flavouring seemed to seperate out the seafood from the noodles distinctively. Desert from next door is also recommended. The homemade 'ades as a drink was fresh and refreshing. Its easy to do this style of food to an okay standard, but the wonderful combination of friendly service, tasteful, aromatic and incredibly photogenic food and a wonderful, slightly rustic ambience made it a brilliant experience.

This is a nice and friendly restaurant but only if you walk in with a small number of people. The food is good and tasty and very much recommended. However, I would have liked to have brought a group of friends there. Perhaps 8 or 10 people! But if you book in advance for a group they will only accept that if you have their "Party Menu". That is for a small number of choices of main courses and a mixed selection of starters and also covers unlimited corkage and their 12.5% service charge. Now that might well suit a group of young boozers. Unfortunately, my friends are a selection of different people. Some do not drink alcohol, some do not eat prawns and some are on limited income and cannot afford the £35 each cost of their party menu. But at this restaurant does not give you any choice! For a prebooked group you MUST have their Party Menu with no exception! So out of the question for my varied friends!

I’ve often gone to Bintang and their other sister restaurants for food but was blown away by how accommodating they were for a big party group and how smooth the whole experience was. Firstly I arrived with ten guests on a busy Saturday night and after a quick conversation with the manager realised we had booked the wrong date. Instead of turning us away, they responded calmly and within minutes had rustled up a table big enough to fit everyone. They also had buckets of ice waiting for the drinks we had brought! The food was delicious and plentiful and when there were leftovers the waitresses happily boxed things up for people to take away. This is amongst delivering a candle lit bday cake, plates and more cutlery.

But then we were told it was cash only, a £5 corkage fee each and then an additional 12.5 percent service charge. I'm not sure why we had to pay the service charge as the service wasn't great. Staff struggled to take our order or listen to what we wanted - it was a two course set menu. The food itself was very nice but nowhere near worth the £40 we ended up paying each for a two course meal. It was very disappointing.

Liked the selection of dishes on here; it seemed to be a mix of Filipino and Japanese. I’m not too familiar with Filipino so it was cool to have a try of some of their dishes. Starters were really nice, we had satay chicken and crispy squid. For our mains we had dirty rice (in the photo) which has lots of lovely bits of prawn, chicken, beef, mango, onions and chillis in it; it was like a special fried rice on steroids and a very big portion! It came with a lovely sauce resembling kewpie mayonnaise and some really nice pickled cucumbers. Regrettably, I couldn’t eat too much of it because I found it to be a bit greasy, and greasy food makes me feel sick however I would have liked to have finished it! We also had bbq lamb ribs which I thought were too sugary. In terms of service, although we were welcomed into the restaurant because we got there early before the actual opening time, they didn’t seem that attentive afterwards. Also annoying because the staff seemed to be nipping in and out the front door all the time letting all the cold air in. It was a tad difficult to grab someone’s attention even though we were the only people in the place. Also it was strange because they bought my mum’s coffee in from the outside which again whooshed all the cold air in.

The food here was average, very good setting in the garden, jungle themed. Service was excellent, can’t complain.

Been there a few times recently and always enjoy the food. Like the fusion menu which has some unique dishes. Small and relaxed restaurant. Average price but above average food! Will pop in again when in the area I'm sure. BTW, BYO drink which makes it a cheap eat in my book!

The food is really nice, but the service was a bit impersonal and slow, they didn’t seem very happy to see customers. The restaurant and basement is a pretty tired looking. Maybe try the takeaway.

So the main thing I’ve got to say is the food was INSANELY good. We were a party of 14 with several vegetarians and more than one incredibly fussy eater, and everyone was delighted which is quite an achievement. I have no idea what the people leaving 1* reviews are thinking.

We happened to be in Kentish town for my husband's birthday so decided to eat here. The food was delicious and service quick. Will definitely come here again to try other dishes. Reasonably priced too.

The food we ordered was fried in a heavy batter. There was a pile of just batter on my plate. They forgot my husband dinner. The atmosphere was nice but it’s definitely over priced.

8 of us had the party menu, which was ideal as we all got to try lots: a mix of 5 starters, a main each, and corkage, service and two types of soda were all included in the set price. As the organiser, this also made it sooooooo much easier for us all to pay, and avoided the time-consuming and sometimes awkward splitting of the bill. The pre-ordering also meant the food came quickly, which helped us make our engagement afterwards. I will now 100% look for other restaurants that do similar, such a great idea!

The waiter was very friendly and tried to be helpful. However the place is completely rundown and I did not see any hygiene rating reasons on there for probably a good reason. The garden is an absolute state with bird muck on all the tables. Whole place looks like it’s about to be closed down. Maybe it is? The noodle dish with Thai basil had no Thai basil in it! There are pest control devices around the restaurant also. I truly cannot understand how they got so many good ratings. Sorry as the staff were nice

A small cosy restaurant, but staff are great. They were super friendly, gave great recommendations for dishes, the food itself was top notch. Highly recommend the Bintang, and the Ulek (which is spicy so not for faint hearted)

My partner ordered takeaway from here on Friday. Walked 10 mins to collect it. They’d forgotten to cook his food. He said, right, fair enough, these things happened. He went home, waited half an hour as advised, walked back, so 40 mins of waiting 40 mins of walking. They’d forgotten again! The waitress originally dealing with him actually hid. The chef apparently didn’t seem bothered. They didn’t offer him anything they had available, or any food at all. By this time other takeaways are shut. Fun on a Friday night was a bowl of soup from the back of the fridge.

I had the seafood Bintang. The prawns were lovely, the rest of the seafood was awful. The taste and texture suggested they had been overcooked and reheated. The sauce was bland and lacked any real depth of flavour. A very disappointing meal.

Decided to dine here with a friend, after the yummy looking dishes on social media. Nice greeting from the staff, and sat down on a minimalistic table. There was a nice hubbub of noise adding to atmosphere as restaurant is not too big on the ground floor and was almost full. Sat down, and advised of the 1 hour time limit on the table. Ordered food, and was served within around 12 minutes. I ordered some Ulek egg noodles; slightly spicy but tasty and filling. Ordered some wings, which were okay. Also ordered some Lamb ribs which we were excited about; although the lamb was tender and fall of the bone, it was a little too sweet for our palate. My friend enjoyed his Curry main and garlic rice. We also had a dessert to finish off, which was ice cream inside a freshly made bun; this was a nice ending to the meal. Overall we enjoyed our meal; probably over ordered for two people but the service was good, and dishes very off the cuff. Atmosphere was nice, and you could tell the establishment had its regulars. The owner was friendly, and very enthusiastic about the restaurant; and that resonated with the quality and thought which had gone into the food. Maybe not quite to my palate, but that's more of a personal choice!

Volveremos, gracias equipo Bintang!
