Wonderful service from Sarah for drinks and lunch. Nothing was too much trouble, the menu was adapted to suit us all. 3 diners had fish in various ways and I enjoyed the veggie burger. Beautiful setting, extremely good value for money. Good variety of local drinks

We were very disappointed when we visited Sanday that this premises were closed and there was nowhere to eat lunch or dinner.

There were five of us and we had booked our lunch in advance (just to make sure!). Four of had fresh haddock and chips in different forms - battered, baked and breaded - service with wonderful chips and peas and followed by desserts to die for - a Nickerbocker Glort in my case! - and coffees etc. We all loved it and would eat there often if we had the good fortune to live on this wonderful island!

Dropped in here for a bite of lunch on our cycle around Sanday. Another friendly local made us sandwiches. Good local beer and rhubarb soda. Right by kettletoft harbour complete with seals.

We always stop in past the Belsair whilst in Sanday visiting family and the food is always very good. Soups for lunch are great and are really a meal on their own with the generous portions. Staff are pleasant and friendly, always giving a warm welcome. Not a bad pint either!

We went to the Belsair for their Sunday banquet a few weeks ago. It represents terrific value for money (as much as you can eat and a drink for £12.95 for adults, £6.95 for kids). Food was excellent pub grub. Lasagne, curry, local roast beef, stuffed chicken and sides. Good quality. Good value. Went back a couple of times in the next 2 weeks. Decent pub grub. Monkfish a high point, portions huge. Recommended!

Afternoon coffee and a delicious slice of homemade Victoria sponge and welcomed by the lovely bar staff made us decide to visit for our evening meals for the remaining two evenings we had to spend on the Island.Cosy bar atmosphere and welcoming staff plus freshly home made breaded fish and chips went down a treat.Wide choice on the menu for variety. Facilities are immaculately clean always a good sign .

We stopped by for a drink today but found it under renovation. This little hotel could be a sure winner if the rooms are redone so they are warm and damp free. The restaurant and bar areas could use a bit of an updating. We hope the works go well and look forward to their reopening!

We were on Sanday for one day and searched everywhere for a cafe to no avail. We eventually tried this place that looked like a sports bar in someone's front room, with very limited opening hours during the daytime. We asked the friendly lady for two hot chocolates but then she disappeared for about 15 minutes - rather odd we felt, but later found out she was also trying to run the shop nextdoor at the same time and had to keep going to and fro! It was OK when there's nowhere else to go, but not the idea of a nice tea-shop we had in mind. We think Sanday is sadly missing a trick in not having a cafe. Kettletoft is also very run down and scruffy village and not at all the pretty harbourside village we were expecting!

Myself and two friends have eaten at the Belsair for two nights now, we had some very nice and freshly cooked food, the landlady is super friendly. We chatted to her and realised she only took the place over around a year ago, looking at past reviews, much has changed for the better. It's actually hard to remember that Sanday is out on an island, these guys are doing a great job ...good honest food, great fish, and friendly service, top rated for me anyway...!

It is very small and the landlady is very friendly. We had a snack lunch and I asked for a panini with a different filling which was done beautifully. Our evening meal was traditional pub fare with generous portions. I can definitely recommend it.

As a lone female traveller the receiption I received was amazing. The young couple who had just taken over the business made me feel like I was at home. I stayed in the Ayres Rock Hostel but went to the Hotel for my meals every day. They even did me a packed lunch at a very resonable rate. Even when the whole island went into a power cut half way through the Sunday Lunch the landlord/lady still provided really nice sunday lunch and free tea and coffee all afternoon to all the locals and everyone who came in effected by the power cut. Their hospitality was brilliant. The bar area was very nice with plenty of seating and lots of car parking. A brilliant place to talk to the locals to, to find out the lates dolphin or whale sightings and who gave me plenty advice on more of the sites which are not on the map but worth looking at.

Visiting the island whilst touring the Orkneys, we came across the Belsair and decided to eat there. From the exterior, there has obviously been a recent programme of refurbishment, and it looked very nice. This work has obviously been continued into the bar area. Sadly though, the effort put into this has obviously detracted from any customer service training. Lacklustre service, and a poor meal. Whilst edible, it was nothing to get excited about, and I suspect the cook has little training. There is a fairly extensive menu, and on an island with poor transport links I would suspect that little is freshly prepared, but microwaved to order. There are other options on this beautiful island, and on our return there we will not be repeating the Belsair experience.

Popped in for an evening meal. 2 x very tasty burgers and some good beer later we left very happy. It isn't the grandest of places, but it does deliver good food at a fair price. Would definitely return if we were staying longer.
